GAZZUZZ, got my very first overheating problem. It looks electrical. The car has been throwing one problem or the other. This evening returning from work, i just had a dash with another car but to my amazement something quite out of place happened. Fuel needle was very very low but the other needle was above half, i was shocked. I stopped, popped the hood, with engine still running, a small coolant pipe leading to cold start portion of the throttle body was hissing vapour and has splashed my very old green coolant that has never been drained. I can see coolant all over but no fan blowing nat that high temp. I turned off the engine and returned ignition to on (II). Turned the AC on (engine off) and fans came on. Turned it back off. Started the car and let it idle for more than 5mins while i connected my bluetooth OBD II device. Coolant temp show 113 degrees celsius but no fans. I topped the coolant reservoir with water and drove home blasting full AC as temp dropped to steady 104-105. Got home and swapped fan relay but no difference on idle. All fan fuse are intact. Note AC blower fuse is ok since AC is blowing. I have read about fan switch on thermostat housing but cant find any switch there. Am lost now please help. |
Gentlelife50:Brilliant question. Only drive wheels will be affected. So, if a car is front wheel drive and you change front tire size, speedometer will be affected. Same as rear wheel drive. But if a car is 4 wheel drive, it gets more complicated. Same as if one tire size is different with the other. The speedometer may not be affected but the differential will be affected. The differential is what causes only one tire to spin at different speed from the other. It is a fact that when a car is traveling in a circle or turning, the tires in the inner circle travels shorter distance than the outer tires. So tires normally must not be at the same speed all the time, differential takes care of that problem. So technically, if one drive wheel is bigger than the other the differential assumes the car is turning a circle or one tire is slipping in mud and it allows the bigger tire to be faster than the smaller while the speedometer is not affected. However, the differential will constantly be overworked and possibilty of transmission failure is higher. A front wheel drive has 1 differential a rear wheel drive also has 1 differential. 4 wheel drive has atleast 3 differentials. So a 4wd having different tires is a very complicated. A 4wd has differential for the front axle, back axle and center differential. The center differential will cause the front axle speed to be different from rear axle speed. Thats one out of 2 reasons why it is bad to but different sized tire in front or back. |
GAZZUZZ:There are 2 types of these pins i have noticed. I hope u noticed too. There are long ones with flat edges and short ones with curved edges(not screw type o). The short ones grips better unlike the long one in your hand. Especially for that splash shield, you better get the short ones else your splash shield will soon be wasted. My friend lost his slash shield due to the long ones pulling out anyhow. |
Lexusgs430:Na wa o, see detailing. |
banky3w:No wahala. |
banky3w:You!!! Is it not you who is asking whether GAZZUZZ bought engine/tranny? The pic I showed you clearly shows the transmission and you are asking a very irrelevant question. Even the pic GAZZUZZ posted as the engine was brought down from the container showed the transmission attached but you wouldnt see it yet you are asking questions. I thought i was helping you but clearly GAZZUZZ was right not to have answered your obvious question. |
banky3w:Bros look at this again, what do you see?

I am am here clapping my hands for you and will definitely show the thread to my friend who never cares about his car. One advice though, pls keep those headlights you removed. I have a hunch you will fall back to them in the next 1 year when these new ones change colour. |
ugreat:99% of car batteries in the Nigerian market today are sealed maintenance free wet cell batteries. Bottom line is that it still a wet cell battery. I searched for the old school wet cell battery but couldnt find any. |
nurey:LOL. If na me carry this car come GAZZUZZ shop say make him rebuild na plenty story him go give o. But am bookin my space on this thread hoping justice will be done to this car in the master's own hands. I jealous you o, GAZZUZZ. |
eluquenson:Old |
GAZZUZZ:My digital multimeter is missing but will get one from one of my electrician boys. I will have time for this on Monday. I was able to remove the stuck front left ABS with hydraulic this morning. Cleaning it didnt help, by the time i reversed to gate the ABS showed. After restarting, no ABS till i got to work 30miles away. I felt the ABS kicking in just once but briefly. I was considering a scan when i get time but the guys dont let you be incharge of your own scan feeling they know better. They usually end up just telling you the code and have no idea what it means. About K24Z3, your comment stroke a memory when buying my friends Z3 engine. At the point of buying i didnt know the difference so i paid less attention to the sensor but can remember vividly that the Z3 we got had only 2 connectors, 1 solenoid and 1 oil switch. But my friends sensor has 4, 2 solenoid and 2 oil swtiches. So we couldnt use the sensor on the new engine. We used the sensor from the old engine. Before exchanging the sensors, we confirmed that both engines had exactly the same oil ports on the sensor location. Its confusing on why some cars will have the 2 and others 4 connectors. |
Gazzuzz sir, i also have a problem to share. I had to park my car for a week for the issue of power steering pump pipe leakage problem. I didnt travel with it for fear it will become worst and might not get me to destination. I couldnt get a good and affordable replacement so i asked my mechanic to do the working he did on my mum's 1996 accord. He did it and it is working well. The brakes felt spongy so I instructed him to bleed the brakes. All 4s where bled. This brought a new problem, everytime i reverse, ABS light comes on but goes off at restart. When moving on asphalt without touching the brakes i hear the ABS pump working intermittently and sometimes during soft braking. It does that more in the mornings and ABS light comes on thereafter and sometimes doesnt. I thought the brake fluid was short but it has been topped with no difference. My drivers side ABS sensor wire had cut before and was joined and taped with electrical insulating tape. I checked the joint its still intact with no contacts. Suggestions i got from search is to wipe clean all sensors and hub teething. I couldnt get the sensor out as its kinda stuck on. Whats your suggestions. |
erico2k2:Very clear and well written. Just to add. (Letters in red) |
erico2k2:Vehicle speed sensor is located in the transmission. Vehicle speed sensors are usually located at the transmission while wheel speed sensor is at the wheel. Speedometer uses that of transmission (VSS). ABS uses both (WSS and VSS) Vehicle Stability Assist uses both too. If either VSS or WSS goes bad, ABS and VSA stops working. If WSS goes bad speedometer is not affected.
|
erico2k2:My car has this sensor on all wheels. My car has ABS but not VSS. Unplug one wheel connector and the ABS light illuminates but speedometer still works. My friends car has both VSS and ABS, one of the wheel speed sensor wire broke and both VSS and ABS illuminated. He drove the car for months and speedometer never stopped or misbehaved. My car has nothing like anti skidding device. Note, VSS is the anti skidding device but my car does have it while it has the sensor he shared.

crowley:If i smoke cigarette in my car, will my car know and open the windows for some fresh air? ![]() I just wonder what system detects tire size. TPMS measures tire pressure, what measures tire size? |
Conner44:True. Using a monster tire on a VW beetle does not only requires recalibration of speedometer but the entire car. |
crowley:I havent neither do i know how. |
crowley:This speed sensor is used by ABS and Vehicle stability system and cannot be used by the speedometer. The reason a speedometer cannot use it is because this sensor will report speed of individual wheels as against speed of the car. Imagine one tire losing complete traction and spinning freely and speedometer reading speed of one tire as car speed but car is stationary. |
crowley:On the black bolded, larger tires cover more distance per rotation. On the green text; invert the assertion. On the red text; LOL, 130km/h cannot be same as 100km/hr Your whole post needs review. Pls watch the videos shared by ZIMDRILL. Also make research on google like this famous site shown below.
|
crowley:I totally and 100% agree with you. However, there are 2 things you have failed to take into account. Location of the sensor and the speedometer calibration? I wont bore you as an automotive engr in training, please look it up and inculcate in your theories. Yes the sensor reads rotation, but is the speed sensor on the tires? Where is it usually located? Usually the transmission. So, how will the sensor know how many kilometers the tire has covered in one revolution of the transmission output? It will never know unless its calibrated to know. The calibration is the size of the tire as a constant. |
crowley:Tire size does affect speedometer. Planes and choppers dont measure speed the same way like cars. Cars measure the distance covered by car with time while planes measure pressure of the air around the plane. That is why km/h is not the same as knots. You've heard air speed before. 1knot is 1.852km/h. |

ZIMDRILL:A lot of guys wont still agree to it. Anyway, its a fact, its left for the open mind to understand. |
erico2k2:1. Are you trolling me? 2. I believe you are trolling me. 3. You have been trolling me From the 3 sentences above, would you reply only to 1 and forget about 2 and 3 because both doesnot have a question mark? ![]() Anyways, am tired of it cause no matter how i try to explain, you either refuse understanding it, counter it or deliberatly move on to another matter. All has led us to nowhere so its pointless replying you. Done. Lastly, if this is the only question Can a car going at the speed of for instance 120km/ph overtake another car doing the same speed?you deem fit for an answer, my answer is NO. Hope you are happy now and would stay off my back with regards this 1 year old matter. |
erico2k2:I have several times and have quoted it a few times even on this very last page of the thread. I quoted the op in my last reply to you. Question: 1 ableguy:Answer: No (all conditions being equal) Question 2 I have argued about this on several occasions, because I believe the speed clock or odometer should be like a clock that's always accurate and no clock goes faster than others.Answer: False believe (because blah blah blah....) Question 3 I know car engine, horsepower and capabilities differ. But then I believe a car going at the same speed can't overtake the other.Answer: True (all things being equal) Substitute all the blah blah blah blah with what i have being saying since last year which you wish i didnt talk about. All those arguments were geared towards clarifying the op's believe, whether its a question or not, giving him an opinion is like giving an answer to the question even if it does not come with a question mark. |
erico2k2:You mean to say questions. I found 3 questions and i have different answers to each of them. If you mean to say your level of understanding limits your understanding points i rainsed, you should not critisize what you dont understand. Did the op ask only 1 question? I really need this answer from you. You seem to only focus on the first sentence made by op and neglect the rest of his post. What is your answer to the others? 1 is a yes/no question 2 is a right/wrong question 3 is a yes/no question Question 1 is the same as question 3 but the 1 is NO and 3 is YES. The difference is in the sentence construction of the op. So you cant answer the op by just saying one big yes or no. I have learnt alot on Nailand especially Cartalk, i wont hesitate to put it more answer than i am being asked. You should not stop me from doing so but critisize the wrong things i post and add to the right ones. Why should i say yes or no and walk away when the yes or no has assumptions attached to them which can change the answer in certain conditions. You want me to "automatically" assume conditions i know exist but pretend it doesnt. From my understanding, its either you say; yes/no (all things being equal) Or Yes/no (explain) I chose the later but you want to force me to say the former. When both answers are correct. What are we talking about here. |
erico2k2:If you say automatically, that means an assumption. In science when you make an assumption you should state it. When you and your friend compete with each other, which same device would you use to accurately compare your speed without introducing a 3rd external device. Why cant i tell you the complications. Did the op delve into speedometer or not? ableguy:I can count atleast 3 issues, why do you expect me to answer a single yes or no for all 3 issues. If i say NO to the words in green, is it the same for the words in black or in red? Is it every speedometer that is "always accurate"? When you change tires, will your speedometer be "always accurate"? This ops post didnt ask for a yes or no answer. |
erico2k2:Yes. One external device eg speed gun, GPS etc but not the speedometer. A speedometer mounted on cars have a low degree of accuracy. Any device is as good as its level of accuracy. A ruler measures linear dimensions, likewise a venier caliper or a micrometer screw guage. They all have their level of accuracy for measuring the same thing. A speedometer will be as bad as a ruler measuring inear distance of less than 1mm. Example, measuring thickness of my phone with 3 of the mentioned devices will give results as such. Ruler 9mm, venier caliper 8.92mm, micrometer screw guage 8.9123. The difference between the 1st and last is 0.0877 which is significant. In the same vein, a car speedometer is not as accurate as a radar or laser speed gun or the GPS speedometer. A car speedometer may say 100km/h but the radar or laser could be more precise say 98.35km/h. If you measure one car with its speedometer and the other from a speed gun. They may not be in the same speed and with time one car can overtake the other. |
ableguy:Whats wrong in saying the answer is no but that no is dependent on conditions. My car and your car travelling at 100km by reading at our speedmeters may or may not be same speed if errors are not eliminated. It doesnt change the fact that the main answer is no. If you are a science student you must have heard of real depth or apparent depth. Its like looking at the bottom of a swimming pool full of water. The bottom looks 1m (apparent) but the real depth is 2m. Same with measuring speed with speedometer. All this talk talk i gave doesnt change my initial simple answer that its a no. From the main question Can a car going at the speed of for instance 120km/ph overtake another car doing the same speed? No I have argued about this on several occasions, because I believe the speed clock or odometer should be like a clock that's always accurate and no clock goes faster than others. wrongYou see, the op asked several questions and cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. |
purespikes:If you have money to waste, you can go ahead with replacing it. I cant imagine any damage to any other component by this engine. It will never give you the Z3 feel if thats what you want to hear. If you want to sell the Z2 i think my friend would consider buying from you if its affordable which will be far better than you will get from any engine seller. |
