Doubling a cylinder head gasket will never damage an engine but the vehicle may not run due to loss of compression.

It's amazing that people limit their internet data usage to only Nairaland

Compression definitely reduces but not bad enough to stop the engine from running well unless the car previously had compression problems.

I really loved it for a change. That's a spice to the whole show in my opinion. What do you think?

3. Krest Bitter Lemon – a soft drink

that's not true, those that doubled gaskets are the less priviledge who can not afford to replace Top cylinder, when overlapping occur due to excessive over heating, the Top must be replace, but not all fingers are equall, due to kazeem vast experience, he can therefore suggest to the poor owner to do a reboil grinding on the Top cylinder, in the process left extral gap for compressing leakages, the gasket must be doubled. Note, these said set of cars must be outdated that need complete replacement, so all these non professional marketers dig more hole to your pockets as they endup calling on the condemned Kazeem to solve many of there problems . the different is kazeem repair, while them professionals replaced . in situation you don't have money to replace, your car stays donkey years in there workshop .

I, on the other hand think both of you are correct.

The reason mechanics double gasket is to compensated for a warped head cylinder. The warping is compensated for by the double gasket which allows the head cylinder to close perfectly without changing or machining the head cylinder. This is true for your position.

The negative effect of that is what the other poster captured. The double gasket creates a little more clearance in the cylinder effectively increasing the cubic capacity of the cylinders. This increase is not compensated by the air fuel ratio mix and other engine management systems. Eventually leading to less performance.

These things are the kinds of things our useless National assembly should be passing laws against. Instead they are busy amending CCT laws and other irrelevant ones threatening the VP to sign.

I expected them to make a strong law against corruption possible increasing sentence to life or death, but no, that will affect them and their sponsors.

My friend, there are safety measures on cars, you want to continue driving a car with a bad ABS?? That's suicidal!!! Hence the limp mode, it is to protect you and from further damage to your car. A bmw e70 went into limp mode when the water pump failed, it was only doing around 40km/h, I was so happy.

You think you can drive Acura or Lexus to death like you do on your toyotas?? They are luxury cars too and well protected!!

I didnt say that because someone said it. I actually saw 2 garages in Akwa Ibom, one in Abak road precisely with very expensive BMW cars abandoned. Thats like 2years ago so i cant get back there to get proof for you thats why i let that matter go.

In Nigeria, an ABS crippling your car on certain locations is a death wish. There are places in Abj that your car will be seriously vandalised if it breaks down.

Have you compared all the above especially considering year of cars? Are you saying BMW is the best just because you use it? Have you considered ease of repairs. Dont you know that 80% of mechanics in Nigeria are more conversant with Toyota and Honda?

I made an example on NL before, a bad ABS speed sensor will only deactivate the ABS system on a Japanese car the same fault in a German car cripples it. I know of a Volkswagen which will not shift gear because of an ABS speed sensor, a Benz that went into limp mode, limiting the car from going more than 60km/hr. The one for Benz happened to me midway traveling from Akwa Ibom to Kaduna. The journey became a 2 day journey as a result while travelling at 60km/h on an 800km journey.

This is a typical example. It is not just linkages and kickstarter. These parts are easy DIY projects, electrical problems are the more difficult problems for mechanics and we all know German cars are more electrically complicated and these problems are more crippling. How much is Benz replacement key and its programing in comparison to the average Japanese cars of similar year?

Compare, not just give your experience with one car. I am certainly not saying BMW is a bad car, i am simple making a comparison with common problems for these cars. I also know that its not a fair comparison since a 2009 Acura is compared to a 2007 530.

GS is 303hp while TL has 280 for both 3.5L engines while the GS is still a tad better on gas.

Which car in this talk is worth more than N50m, and which is worth less dan N20m? I was comparing a brand new Benz wit a brand new Peugeot 508.
My basis for comparison is d fact dt technology u find in an entry level (as against high end cars like a 508 or Accord) Benz (eg C-Class) say 8yrs ago u may still not find in a 2017 Toyota or Accord/Honda.
Let's be practical here, is a 2016 Accord V6 more fuel efficient dan a w203 Benz C-Class (let's say a 2006 C230 V6)? Certainly d Benz is more rugged, more reliable, an more fuel efficient ( in your dreams)!

A technology that is worth N50m cannot be the same with that worth N20m. Before making such comments find out how much the Benz cost, at least the 508 from this thread cost less than 20m.

Do you know how much a brand new MBenz C class is in comparison to a peugeot 508? Thats where to start. Compare cars of the same class say MBenz C class and BMW 3 series which are on the same class. What you are doing is comparing Hussain Bolt to Blessing Okagbare. The question is, is 508 even in the same class with Accord or Camry? You like one car and you compare every thing to that car. Very soon you will compare Kia Picanto to G wagon just because you like Benz and Picanto seem to as boxy as G wagon!

Why in this world would you compare 2016 accord to a 2006 C class? Why for God's sake? Even Benz management will be angry at you. Let me break your bubble, 2016 Accord V6 is 3.5L same as Benz C350. But Accord has 26mpg combined and 278hp while 2006 C350 has 21mpg bombined and 268hp. That makes the accord better fuel efficient and better horsepower for the same size of engine.

As far as am concerned, its cheating to compare 2016 to 2006 so lets use the 2006 accord. Accord has a 3.0L engine, 21mpg combined and 244hp while C350 has a 3.5L engine, 21mpg combined and 268hp. Dont you see 2 cars of the same age and performance? Unfortunately, these 2 cars are still not in the same class as Benz is a Luxury sedan class car and Accord a full sized sedan class. So to be fair to the accord you have to drop to a C 280 which also has a 3.0L engine like the accord but a 228hp and 21mpg combined. Now even not in the same class, there is a serious competition here with Accord leading the C280 in terms of horsepower. Even with this advantage, the Benz is far mor expensive to the Accord.

A w203 Benz C-Class as far back as 2006/2007 has a 7-Speed auto tranny,.....and perhaps every other option/luxury niceties that 2017 508 has.
Up till 2015/2016, Accord at best has a 6-Speed auto tranny,......how can these cars compete with a Mercedes-Benz that is at least 7yrs older in year of manufacture?
