Hi Piyke,

i got a p1399 on my honda pilot 2003. routine valve clearance adjustment was suggested as the solution. Can you guide me on where I can get the feeler gauges required for the job. How many hours is it? ...
I once saw feeler gauge in Shoprite Jabi lake, you may be lucky if they have constant supply and you are in Abj.
Car Talk › Re: What DIYs (Do It Yourself ) Have You Done On Your Car Or Plan To Do? by adanny01(m): 9:50pm On Jan 05, 2017
Piyke:
I believe Pilots are V6 so 24 valves (12 intake and 12 exhaust). Duration of the job depends, if its your first time, I would say budget 4hrs. I would advise you get the curved feeler gauges because of the orientation of the valve latches (Adanny01 how difficult is it to use straight feeler gauges?). Got mine on Amazon, will try to get you the link. If you do consider getting from Amazon you can pick up the jamnut tool as well makes it easier but not compulsory.
You may find this my post on the procedure useful;
http://www.diyautoworksng.com/valve-clearance-check-adjustment-on-2003-2007-accord/

The principles in the post are the same, differences include the fact that the firing order for your engine is different.
I think difficulty levels depends on the type of car and how recessed the valve lash are or how exposed they are. On our car (03 accord I4) the engine is slightly tilted back wards into the firewall but has a lot of space there. With the flat feeler gauge, the cylinders closer to the my standing position were easier while the farthest (no 4 cylinder was most difficult). Also, because of the tilt and the fact that the lash are a little bit recessed, to accurately feel the drag on the gauge is tricky. I had to bend my feeler gauge to get the correct tilt level before feeling the drag. The gauge is stainless steel so easy to bend without breakage. I did mine 3 times before i got it quite.

For a V6, i guess the difficulty level will be higher because of the increased tilt of both banks and the fact that a pilot will be high so accessing bank 2 especially while standing on the ground or on a stool will be more difficult.

2003-2011 Matrix and Vibe had 4 set of engines.

1ZZ-FE/1.8L/123-130hp - 2003-8 matrix XR/Pontiac Vibe
2ZZ-GE/1.8L/164-180hp - 2003-8 matrix XRS/Pontiac Vibe GT
2ZR-FE/1.8L/138hp - 2009-11 matrix XR/Pontiac Vibe

Matrix, Corolla, and the Vibe with the XRS trim, all come with a 2.4L engine...not 1.8L. Only the base, XR, CE or LE trims come with the 1.8L.
Not all, they all come with 1.8L pre 2009 and 2009-11 Vibe GT/matrix/corolla XRS comes with 2.4L while the others still had te 1.8.

Bro, I think it's an I4, even at that, the car was a bullet
I just did a simple research to know their engine powers. It appears that the Pontiac vibe GT or matrix XRS have a 1.8L engine that produces 164-180hp which i expect to give the accord a good chase against the normal vibe or matrix XR with 1.8L 120-143hp. This is against the 2.4L 2003-10 accord with 190hp or V6 with 3.5L 271hp.

The GT or XRS will compete with the accord especially because accord has more weight, but another factor is that the Pontiac is a 4-speed auto while accord is 5-speed auto giving the accord another advantage.

Nasman:
Well, it up to the Youths of Southern Kaduna. If they can't stop killing our Fulani folks for no reason. This cycle of violence will never end. I'm a 100% blooded Fulani man. I know how we treat vengeance. The root cause of this crisis is nothing short of vengeance. The host Community comitted wicked act on the Fulani and their properties. This wickedness go unreported by media. Now that the Fulani are out there to take their vengeance, all of a sudden hell break loose. Even myself I'm a afraid of hurting my Fulani folks. Cos I know what revenge is to them. Plus, Fulani herdsmen are very good at minding their business. But if you provoke them, you have yourself to blame. Let's all hope this cycle of violence will end. Even in Central and Northern Kaduna, Hausa farmers face the same problem with the Fulani herdsmen, but because understanding and mutual respect it rarely lead to bloodshed.
Southern Kaduna ppl are farmers, Fulani's are hearders. Where do you think the crisis started?

Its simple, after what happened in plateau state between Fulani herders and Berom herders, other Fulani became bold especially their youth. They started herding cattle into farms daring and beating farmers that protest. Last time I checked, farmers did request Fulani to settle on their lands to deposit manure on the farms, so its to the farmers benefit to have Fulani graze on farms. But the youths would intentionally destroy farm produce leading to fracas. During those initial stages, I have never heard of farmers going after Fulani to revenge on crops destroyed. It is the Fulani that go about with machetes and sticks who kill or maim farmers that protest destruction of their farms. The resulting issues led to farmers going to farms preparied to defend themselves from known violent Fulani youths

In my village, the Fulani ardo had to banish one of their boys whom his father payed damages to my uncle but the boy swore to kill my uncle. He trailed and ambushed my uncle, shot him but my uncle escaped with flesh wound. My uncle reported to the Fulani ardo who banished the boy to an unknown destination. The boy still sent a message to my uncle saying that he will seek for his head no matter how long it takes him.

I know 2 Fulani youths that my village boys caught each with an ak47 and handed to police with serious intervention from community leaders for their lives. The boys were returned to the ardo 2weeks later even after their case went to the commissioner of police. The village was attacked a month later. If it were our boys caught with such weapons, they would never see freedom for years.

The conspiracy to deny Justice is the fuel to this crisis. It is mostly the farmers that suffer injustice and the Fulani are always the agressors.

Car Talk › Re: Implications Of Expired Tires by adanny01(m): 1:29pm On Dec 31, 2016
Expiry of tires is not and can never be a bookable offence. This is because there are several factors that accelerate or decelerate tire expiry which cannot be explicitly estimated. Sun, heat, moisture, pressure exposures are the leading factors while chemical composition of rubber additives used by different tire manufacturers account for others.

Personally, i can identify an expired tire but for law, it cannot be left at the discretion of a law officer.

Back tires provides stability and you have little or no control over them cos front tires steers the car. So the best of your tires should be position at where you have little or no control
What is stability without direction? You first of all require direction as a priority before you think of stability. Unless you wish to be stable in the gutter. Stability is comfort, direction is prerequisite.

it is much harder to control a moving car with a burst rear tyre than a front tyre. You can use the steering to control the vehicle while you come to a stop and you are much less likely to induce a spin
Do you really know what you are saying?

Front tire steers the car and you think it is easier to control a blown tire in the front. Front tire blowout is far more dangerous to rear tire blow out.

The op is very right. There was a documentary done to verify where new tyres should b given priority first I.e either front or back. Believe me, back is d best bet coz without traction from d tyre in d front wheel, u can still control the car from spinning. But in a case where d best tyres r fixed in the front wheel, any sudden break to try to halt the car to a full stop, u can easily loose control of d car. Its not a hear say, it was practicalize by Dunlop tyres to create awareness. Please, always put ur best tyres at d back.
I have not seen this documentary but i dont agree with it.

A good thread will improve traction especially for driven wheels. So a good tire in the front of a front wheel drive is better than at the back. Likewise a good thread tire in the rear provides good traction for a rear wheel drive.

In addition, i would say rear wheel drives have a disadvantage when either front or rear tire threads are not standard. If thread is not good in the tires, it causes hydroplaning driving on wet roads which is very dangerous for steering with front tires. On wet surfaces, it is a priority to have good threaded tires in the front. A front wheel drive car will fair better with 2 good tires in front than a rear wheel driven car with 2 good tires in the rear.

Traction is required to steer and to drive. Front wheel drives steer and drive using 2 front wheels while rear wheel drives steer with 2 front and drive with 2 rear as such require all four to be in good condition especially for wet conditions.

Who insisted that he wont devalue or float the naira when the situation was still manageable and the whole intellectual community was shouting and warning? Wasn't it buhari who kept saying that he wasn't convinced and this even made his own party member pat utomi to ask him to shut up and stop talking on matters he has no knowledge about., the ban on this 41 items came as a result of the dullard president inability to see and think clearly the situation on ground. The cbn governor had no choice then but to ban these items . If not for the unorthodox policies of the cbn governor ,the exchange rate would have gone high as 1000N.

I keep saying it ,buhari is the only problem facing Nigeria today, remove buhari from power ,install a sensible leader as president ,don't change the ministers and see if they wont perform wonders . Until you really understand who buhari isb,you wont understand the real potential economic crisis Nigeria is in
When Buhari refused to permit the CBN float the Naira, who repeatedly asked him to do it? The CBN governor. When he was allowed to do it finally what happened? The CBN governor devalued but realized it will not work and he started controlling it again.

Its a known fact that every economist knows that as long as we remain a mono product economy, the Naira will always be pressured especialy when the price of this product falls. There is no amount of devaluing that will solve our problem other than reducing imports. Reducing the import cannot be done by bans as most items are essential. The only way to go is agriculture, manufacturing, mining, tourism etc. which of these can we assume to have been upgraded to the level of exporting products that will reduce pressure on the Naira like the crude has been doing?

Buhari cannot do magic, call him dullard or illiterate, it wont change any fact. Those of us who are enlightened and devoid of political bias know the problem Nigeria faces and how to tackle it. We also know how right or wrong government's approach to these issues are.

This cbn governor is very unlucky to have buhari and his cabinet members as his superiors.
Rather, Buhari is unlucky as the CBN governor made most of the policies at the time our economy went into recession without a minister of finance.

Unless you didn't understand the article, it is the CBN governor that banned the 41 items not the finance minister so he is responsible for the further depreciation and closing of over 200 factories.

Don’t Attack Anyone, El-Rufai cautions citizens

Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai on Wednesday appealed to citizens not to respond to the treatment meted on him by demonstrators in Kafanchan, Jema’a local government area on Tuesday.

The Governor and his entourage were pelted with stones and some of the vehicles broken after addressing some demonstrators immediately after he chaired Kaduna State Security Council meeting in the area.

The official residence of the local government chairman, Dr.Bege Katuka was also burnt.

The governor’s spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed in an official statement that Malam Nasir El-Rufai considers the unfortunate events as part of the burdens of leadership. He added that the Governor is of the view that there must be no reaction to the incident other than a continued commitment to restore peace and harmony.

The statement quoted the Governor as saying that “in the name of God, I am begging you. No one should take the law into his or her hand over what happened in Kafanchan. Although it is unfortunate, but we must rise above induced prejudice and hatred. We must defeat hate with patience, love and dedication to duty and not eye for an eye.

“It is also a burden of leadership and we will, by the special grace of God, overcome these forces of darkness who are dividing our citizens using religion, ethnicity and politics. I commend high the sense of professionalism exhibited by security personnel.

“I listened to three of the women who led the protesters as they asked me questions. I answered them and even invited them to a larger meeting, but they went on rampage and burnt the residence of the local government chairman.

“The government of Kaduna State and the Security Council sympathize with the chairman of Jema’a local government, Dr.Bege Katuka and his family over the unfortunate incident that led to the burning of their home. Our prayers and support go with them.”

Similarly, the governor will update the people of the state on the steps being taken to improve security in the state in a state-wide live radio interview on Wednesday night, from 8pm to 10 pm.

Signed

The Senate has more powers to do things to him and they just did one which is refusing to confirm him
Unfortunately, they have no power to remove him as acting chairman or appoint anybody else.

The president can still send back his name till they have no option or find concrete legal evidence of whatever is the reason the rejected him in the first place.

We all know their toes have been stepped on by him and that is their only reason.

It looks like you are using the wrong vent setting. It is best to select air re-circulation, face vent (shown below) and temperature dial to coolest (counter clock-wise till it stops). This will give you best result and if not good enough, you may need to recharge the system.

There is always two side to a coin. NCC is trying to promote small Nigeria Telecomm companies and protect them from big ones like MTN,Airtel, Etisalat and Glo.
This makes no sense. MTN gives me 1.5g for 1k while a small Nigeran coy gives me 500mb for 1k. NCC now ask MTN to stop giving me cheap data just to support the local coy and give me 500mb for 1k. So MTN will now make 3k from the same 1.5g they used to give me at 1k. What happens to the extra 2k MTN earns free of charge for service they have been offering far cheaper. Obviously, the senate has signed an agreement to extort Nigerians.
