davodyguy:Oboi, thats guzzling. Is your car V6 or L4? I drive 03 accord approx 70miles everyday with hold ups sometimes A/C but use roughly 15litres per trip. Mind you 03 accord L4 has almost the same consumption with 07 accord L4. |
Edunwa302:We dont have much to argue about cos i see no other reason i would idle my car for even 10 minutes when the A/C is not required or i dont need to move. If the op says he idles his car for 2 hrs the 1st thing i assume is that he is using the A/C. My friend out of power failure couldnt sleep and had no fuel in his generator slept in the car using A/C. If he today says he left his car idling for 5hrs what will be your assumption. The other person i know who left his car idling for 5 hrs without using A/C was passed out drunk! You see! Lets drop the matter. |
Edunwa302:I understand. I noticed it is written "Avoid unnecessary stopping and braking". When you get caught up in traffic how will you avoid stopping and braking? I ask the same question with that of idling, if the weather condition is very hot and i want to be cool while held up in traffic, how else can i avoid idling? If they use the word 'avoid', it doesn't mean you must not do it but it means your action will be putting additional stress on the car. We all know that. If the weather were very cold such as in 5 degrees would i need the A/C? I cant avoid situations where its hot and wish to cool down. The avoid used is conditional. |
Edunwa302:I am shocked that your owners manual warns against excessive idling. This is what my manual says; U.S. Owners - Follow the Maintenance Schedule for Severe Conditions if you drive your car MAINLY under one or more of the following conditions. -Driving less than 5 miles (8 km) per trip or, in freezing temperatures, driving less than 10 miles (16 km) per trip. -Driving in extremely hot [over 90°F (32°C)] conditions. -Extensive idling or long periods of stop-and-go driving, such as a taxi or a commercial delivery vehicle. -Trailer towing, driving with a roof rack, or driving in mountainous conditions. -Driving on muddy, dusty, or deiced roads. NOTE: If you only OCCASIONALLY drive under a ‘‘severe’’ condition, you should follow the Normal Conditions Maintenance Schedule. Canadian Owners - Follow the Maintenance Schedule for Severe Conditions. I guess, when those cars reach Nigeria, severe conditions should be followed. |
engrsegun:We cant all be right every time. The 1.5 litres of displacement of the Yaris or any internal combustion engine for that matter sucks not only air but a mixture of air and fuel and expels a lot of gases that are not air. The fuel itself could be dedicated or bi-fuel combination fuel supply. Remember there are cars that runs on propane gas(LPG) or mix with petrol. I remember we used to have a portable power generator that starts with petrol but runs with kerosene having two tank compartments one for petrol the other for kerosene! Imagine that! |
Edunwa302:You were not entirely wrong especially in asking the OP to refer to his user manual. That was critical. However, you said and i quote "your car needs more than inbuilt cooling system for perfect cooling". This and the rest of the sentence i believe is why ZIMDRILL said you are wrong. His car needs nothing more than prompt recommended service. It is only in the long run that the wear of the engine and associated parts will fall in and that cannot be avoided by any means other than proper servicing. Referring to this comment of yours, 'air that pass through the car's while on motion helps a lot in engine cooling', thats why the car is designed that the fan mostly stops when moving but kicks in when you have stopped. The actual controller for when the fan kicks in is the coolant temp sensor through the ECU. Only the coolant temperature determines if the fan is needed or not. So if the car is moving and the air is cooling the engine within required temp, the fan remains off and comes on when probably you have stopped and the temperature is going above required so the fan comes on. This way the fan itself has a longer lifespan being saved from over working. On another situation were the fan is off but the air passing as a result of movement cools the coolant below required the thermostat stops water circulation so that the required heat will build up. From this explanation nothing is additionally required except if there is a fault with the cooling system and in that case the fan may not be able to cool it successfully. |
It is not a bad thing per say. If you check your user manual, am sure it must have recommended a service period specifically for such conditions. Conditions such as excessive idling, stop and go traffic, hill climbing, very hot weather and towing require shorter service period than normal conditions. If to say your manual recommends service at 5000km, in your condition, service may be at 3,500-4,000km. If your car is cooling system is working normally, there wont be a problem. Your car engine would have worn more than the same car of its age at any particular time because of this condition. This also implies to another user who plies dirt roads will have his suspension parts worn out sooner than the same car of the same age plying only the highway. |
Among all graphic pictures this is the most graphic of all that i have seen on NL. Too much. |
AutosBay:Are you sure of what you said? |
My problem with this government is that they say something now but regret it later with a different opinion. They never think of the future implications of the positions which usually change making them liars. Later when a damning evidence shows up that BH is connected to ISIS they will start lying or making comments that they were misunderstood. |
mikeapollo:Let me analyse your statement from a civil engineer's perspective. When you say hover, you mean to say helicopter because a jet cannot hover or a plane for that matter. So, would a helicopter hovering above a standard building cause it to collapse? The answer is No! If the helicopter landed on top of the building without a helipad and the building collapses, i will agree and say yes. Is there a sonic equipment or sort of that the helicopter might hve carried that caused the collapse, i think is plain ridiculous. If the helicopter were responsible for the collapse, why wasnt the collapse immediate but after it had left without touching the building? If it were to be a jet, i may believe if the jet took off from the groundin the buildings viscinity. A jet engine produces more back pressure that a helicopter in a direction. The direvtion of the air flow of a get is imposible to cause an effect on the building. Assuming the helicopter caused the collapse, the design and structural integrity of the building must still be questioned since the building must be designed to withstand wind pressures but this one failed. I say once again, there is no evidence to support an external force on that building, the only conclusion is either structural or design failure. |
If Atiku returns to PDP then APC is vindicated for not choosing him as their flag bearer which will mean Atiku's political carreer is dead. He will for ever remain a selfish presidential hopeful that has no plans for Nigeria. I never wanted him. |
musicwriter:In saner countries, when a plane crashes, its not natural but an event that its cause must be investigated. No building should collapse. If it does, its not natural but an event that has a cause which must be investigated. A building collapse has a cause it must be found. Lagos cannot and will never be rrsponsible for a privately owned collapsed building. The people responsible are the owner, the designer and the contractor. Thata how its done. One of them is responsible for the collapse. |
OgaTheTop2:Senerio 1: Americans use dealerships for maintenance, but will not be present during repairs. If dealership replaces you ATF with a non recommended one and your transmission packs up. As far as you know, the gear is supposed to be fine but the dealerahip messed you up. You end up having a Honda user oblivious of the fact that some one waa responsible for hia failed trans. Scenerio 2: A recall might have been made about the transmission. The average milliage is for example 79000miles, if you get a car at 120000miles would you say that yours is also defective? |
Fortune13:Access and recognising to use OEM replacement parts. If you wish to use cheap chinese parts, make sure replace with a slightest sign of trouble but most people miss this signs and end up with a broken wheel. On the transmission, no way around it, you must buy Honda DW-1 if you must change ATF at all. |
OgaTheTop2:If you continue following these you will not buy any car. |
DONFASZY:There are a lot of things our mechanics don't know and Honda is unforgiving with that. For instance almost all cases of transmission failures are as a result of using non-recommended or wrong gear oil (ATF). Once you use an undesirable ATF, the gear packs up almost immediately and you think Honda has a problem. Some mechanics advise users to change atf with every service while others say after 1 or 2 service. Its all wrong. Honda in most cases recommends change of atf after 60,000miles or 5yrs or sooner if you usually tow or climb hills probably to your home. Who knows that you need to replace brake fluid every 3 yrs? Who knows that you need to rotate all tyres every 10,000miles? How many original Honda replacement ball joint are in the regular spare part market in Nigeria, almost none? How many motorist care if their suspension squeaks? When it happens, they say its Honda. |
Victoriousvic:Oh i forgot this big one that you will find in almost every Nigerian car. Short circuiting fuses with no regards to consequence of rating. |
mikeapollo:Are you a civil or related engineer? If not, we should not be talking about this cos you will never understand till you have prerequisite lectures. You cant be shown if you are not an engineer that will understand the terms and calculations. You cant be shown all structural defects, it can only be proven by calculations, test on soil conditions, concrete quality etc Its not as easy as you think it is since only a few are physical. A foundation structure can be structurally sound but inadequate in design or to put it better, a foundation that is inadequate will be structurally sound but inadequate to safely transmit the load of the superstructure to the soil. On another hand, the foundation and the superstructure could be sound but the bearing capacity of the soil if overestimated, will lead to the building collapse still leaving the foundation intact. In all structural failures, foundations are rarely destroyed. Investigating failure is more difficult than building itself. If the consultant engineer of the state ministry laboratory says from the test results he has seen (i hv not seen) concludes that the foundation had a defect who are you or I will dispute that fact. You will have to proof with your fact that he is not correct or the test result has no integrity. If the building was perfect, will it collapse? Buildings are designed and built with a factor of safety which means even if it is over loaded and the conditions of its normal use is exceed it should still stand. But this one collapsed without even getting to an overload stage, the building is faulty somewhere, thats a fact. |
mikeapollo:I dont get your point. To answer your question, i wont be happy as an engineer to have any kind of failure whether design or material. People cannot lie on a project like that if every requirement is met. Infact, if everything were ok with the building it would not have collasped without an external force. The problem may have been right from design, who knows, but certainly there was a problem with the building in my professional perspective. Concerning the paragraph i quoted, the writer said and i quoted that the state lab consultanting engineer said the building collapsed because foundation defects. The writer of this article is wrong to believe that by saying "inspite the foundation still standing" it has no defect. Me, i could agree with the engineer if i have his facts but the writer is plain wrong because a standing foundation after superstructure collapse is no proof that the foundation is good, hence my comment. See, i have read the article and do not know who to beleive. The only thing i dont agree with is the insinuation by the writer contained in that paragraph. |
It would be recalled also that a consultant to the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory, Engineer Ariyori Saheed had on Wednesday 4th of March told the coroner that The Synagogue, Church of All Nations building collapsed due to defects in the foundation. This was in spite of the fact that the foundation columns are still standing very firm and erect even as of this moment. The quoted paragraph has a conclusion that is very wrong. As an engineer, i can say authoritatively that when a foundation has a fault, the foundation itself may not fail buy the superstructure it carries fail due to unaccounted stresses and strains. It is the same reason that a crack on a building wall may be absent on the foundation but very pronounced at the top. |
Specialist900:The one who did mine reset the maintenance required light but poured 5litre in the car that takes 4.2l. E no sabi gauge engine oil? And i specifically told him not to pour all but he knows better than i do, na Kazeem im still be. Despite working for total oil servicing hundreds of cars with with either 20w50, 15w40 or 5w40 pouring all oil in without checking the dip stick. |
- Emptying 5 whole liters of engine oil when the engine takes oly 4.2 litres. Because i need fuel from the last week fuel scarcity, i took my car which was due for oil change to total filling station in Zone 6 Abj, i used the guise to buy fuel after but had to leave the car inside as they were not servicing then. I came back and found the guy poured all 5 litres in. I dont know how to go about reducing it before i lose my engine. -Replacing golf mk3 rear suspension and replacing with golf mk2 or someother. -Removing stabilizer linkages entirely They say oga e no get use we dey remove am if e dey make noise. -Installing double cell radiator on every car with an over heating problem for proper cooling -Installing cut pieces of tyre rubber in place of bushings -Its not enough to use 20W50 on every car, they must add oil treatment, ha! |
HenriXI:You certainly gave an answer. If it was bad design a recall would have said so but there is non for suspension parts. Trust Naija mechanics, motorist and chinco parts. If you think only honda does that, i have seen mecedes vboot so many times, toyota tacoma, toyota prado and a lot of others i cant remember. On the transmisson issue, the fear of ABRO atf is the bgning of wisdom if you use any honda auto trans. |
Piyke:Thats were you and I differ. I get between 3000-4000rpm on first gear every time i hit the highway and when overtaking. The acceleration thrills me everytime. I wish i had a v6 without the extra gas. |
Piyke:I know that one, i have experienced that with my office toyota prado. Mine happens on straight or small turns and very inconsistent. I have a positive feeling that the problem has been nipped with the grease. |
Piyke:I hv tried all that. An oga mechanic just tried it. He was shocked too and said he never heard anything like it. He greased some parts again and asked me to test. I wont know now till the sun is down. Once again am doing Wheel balancing and alignment. Thanks. |
hansad:You dont deserve to be replied. You said Buhari is sick, yet you have no proof, he is 73 there are older presidents even in Africa, you said he cant express himself yet he speaks better than GEJ and even more intelligent, you said he cant make correct sentence yet he speaks better grammar than GEJ. Corruption is the last thing you can call Buhari even FFK knows that one. All you believe are half truths, plain lies or mere propaganda. Dont you have a mind of your own? You said see what ethnic and religious bigotry is bringing to all of you, yet you seem to be the only one who is ethnic and a religious bigot. |
Heffalump:LOL! The reason i am LOL is i didnt call your name or referred anything to you in anyway. How come you are raining insults on me. You sound like a mad man because only mad men rain insults unprovoked. May be you didnt get me well. Insult me all you want, i shall vote Buhari, you can go hug transformer, am sure you will live to tell me your story. |
What he said is absolutely right. At this moment, i am tired of waiting to vote Buhari. See, even if the devil himself contest against GEJ i will vote for the devil. |
My car has been laying idle for most of last yr but got very busy from November last yr. The suspension feels very good and firm on rough roads and potholes with no rattles or gaps. I currently have two major problems from unknown sources. 1. When the car is cold, driving from 0kmph, at 10-40kmph a very disturbing sound comes from the front left wheel (definitely) and stop making the noise with more speed. The sound is like crack crack crack crack synonymous to a cracking tree branch thats about to break and fall. Its very loud that all passengers will hear and even pedestrians. The main worry is that the wheel was completely dissembled and reassembled 4 times within a month inspecting every part, greasing and tightening every single bolt or nut in the vicinity of that wheel while i and the 2 different mechanics used agree all parts are in good order with no gaps but it continues. It is annoying but has persisted till i no longer pay attention to it. The more annoying thing is that it does not make the sound on stop or above 40kmph and stops entirely after 20 mins of driving. One 'Kazeem' said its bearing but i stood my ground and said its impossible. I know and have changed wheel bearing atleast 15 times if not more in different cars and were never like this. 2. This one is equally strange. At 80-100kmph, i experience a vibration which seem to be coming from the right front wheel. The vibration doesn't seem to come from out of balance wheel in the horizontal forward direction but from a vertical bouncing of the wheel and i am sure the shock absorber (strut assembly) is very good. Thats evident from the irregular wear of any tire i use in that wheel position. It wears more in one opposite end of the circumference of the tire than the other. I swap tires periodically as scheduled but any tire that gets to that position has that problem. I have done several wheel balancing and tired of it. The funny part is that i feel that vibration only when am driving in Abuja but when i travel weekends to Kaduna, i feel nothing even while driving within town. Is this a problem with Abuja roads? I have done an adjustment of the right wheel shaft vibration damper position according to this picture below. It was of no use.

OP, i wish i were the first to advice you so it will be a firm one. When you grow older you will realize that love does not put food on the table or cause unlimited happiness. To be loved will cause you more happiness than you loving. Do not forget the saying that a bird at hand is worth two in the bush/air. My ultimate advice is that you treat the other guy as your boyfriend and your boyfriend as the other guy. You just graduated, i think you are good to marry so start thinking in that line with the other guy and see where it goes. One thing you should know is that you cant have it all and cant build castles in the air either. Your boyfriend is too young to be serious with you thats the truth. You will be risking a lot to wait for him then probably lose everything. Take the one you have and dedicate your self to making it work. Even if you dont love him you will not have much regrets if atleast you are contented with what you have. I am married to a very beautiful and intelligent woman whom i was not head over heels in love with. I know that and would never forget to atleast make her happy as gratitude for her love. After 4 yrs the love in my heart is incomplete but my happiness and satisfaction is complete. What more can i ask for? I am happy because my wife is very supportive, appreciative, contented, hardworking, submissive, loving and above all the mother of my 2 beautiful kids. She is not the sociable type and has below average dress sense so i buy her cloths i want her to wear. I buy my kids cloths as well and do more of the creative things. She is imperfect, i am too, but we are in the happy range as a family complementing each other. I have seen atleast 2 wedding of seemingly perfect couples crash in 6 weeks to less than a yr. |
