At this point, even if they say Ameachi looted N1trillioni wont believe it.

If Ameachi goes to jail, i will ensure I and my extended family do not vote for Goodluck.

If Goodluck thinks Ameachi doesnt affect his chances in 2015, why is he still having sleepless nights over the guy.

Fulaman198: Fulaman and Fulani man are the same thing.

Do not assume that Herdsmen are killing people (if they truly are) for religion. It is most likely due to squabbles over land, killing is wrong regardless. As a Fulani man, I just hope it is not Fulani people killing innocent people. If it is I apologize on behalf of my Fulani brothers. Similar things happen in Niger for example, where Hausa who are mainly farmers get into conflicts with Fulani cattle herders over land. Nothing to do with religion (Nomadic Fulani the Mbororo'en are the least religious of the Fulani).
I had to go back and check if i mentioned anything religion which i know would have been wrong. The Fulani are known for conflicts mainly due to grazing fields. That particular community has alot of grazing fields which is the usual source of conflict with any Fulani man.

The situation in Plateau was made worst because of the very good grazing fields and for the fact that the average Berom man is also a herdsman like the Fulani which made their conflict unique.

Fulaman198: Do we really? And also, they said they suspect they are Fulani, which means they have no proof and just want to blame Fulani. It's Funny that this thread mentioned Fulani, ethnic bigots.
No one attacks in the night or early hours except the Fulani. Ask the people of Plateau, Bauchi, Southern Kaduna, Nasarawa, Benue and Taraba states. All religious crisis dont happen in this manner. Hausa cannot have access to that village(i know it very well), they will be lost in the darkness. It is only the Fulani that can plan and navigate that area, no one else can.

Bro you have no idea, so dont start calling people ethic bigots.

Once again, Nairaland has been instrumental to solving my car problems. I have successfully avoided the usual trial and error which most times result in damage of parts that were never faulty in the first place.
Change your radiator cap.

Car-Doctor.
Mc oldsoja: What's the make and model?
The beginning of your account seemed to point towards the radiator cap. Pressure loss from it would lead to coolant shortage and when not treated early, progress to overheating.
If you say the fan is belt driven, then what you have is a Viscous fan system.
The fan has a clutch containing a viscous fluid which viscosity increases with temperature and thus, it rotate at the engine speed.
The lower the temp. the lesser the fan speed. A defective clutch can cause overheating.
I followed ur tip and 'hit the nail on the head' without much stress. A new cap was just N300 which i immediately noticed the problem. Something was missing on the cap i was using and i could see the rough edge where a missing part of the radiator cap broke off. The pic is shown below.

For now, i have not yet experienced a shortage.

I see 2 reasons why the airline's threat is valid.

1. The customer is to directly bear the weight of whatever charge hurled at them. Which means tickets will be more expensive and less affordable to Nigerians. Also less customers for the airlines.

2. A considerable portion of their profits will be used to pay these charges.

In the end, the charges are directly for Nigerians.

I am in awe of how Jonathan's loyalist accept this lies. The lies on those placards is unbelievable and i wonder how dumb this Mbu must be to have fabricated the story.
Who should we believe?
Ekawu: I'm confused of whom to believe, Mbu or Amaechi?
Is it not obvious?

KwoiZabo: why shld Amaechi recruit 13000 teachers at once? Don't the Schools have teachers before or what? secondly why should he make all of them come to one place to collect their letters? it means that some of them might have travelled from distant LGAs to collect these letters? It is either Amaechi is not wise enough to know that he should take these letters to their various LGs or he wants to make a show or cause a scene with the crowd. Thirdly, he has been in office for six and hakf yrs he did not recruit these teachers he is only doing it now to score cheap popularity and increase recurrent expenditure for the coming Administration in the state.
It is easier for you to accept that 13000 people were hired as miscreants and not as teachers for an entire state which has built new schools! You are twisted.

Police picked up a cousin of mine in front of the gate to his house. He wanted some fresh air so he walked outside in his boxers and vest to the gate to peep at the empty street. He took a leak and was about to go back in when a police van parked. He was bundled in amid his protest that he is at home. He ended up sleeping at the station while no one was aware what happened. He had no phone on him at the time of his arrest so couldnt call. He was released in the morning with no cloths and no transport to go home. He was lucky his dads office was close by so he went there and took his dads car home.

Boss13: His car is still @ the police station. Do you want the address? Mtshweee NLanders' and their "Doubting Thomas Syndrome".
From your description, it was neither the upper nor lower arm. These two dont lead to change in direction of travel and the dont pull out on high speeds. I have experience it myself and my dad too.

Only the steering arm ball joint can change your direction leading to the kind of accident your friend had. This ball joint is present in every car that i know and can happen to any other car.

When it happens like that you cannot be 100% sure the ball pulled out. The nut holding down the joint could pull out from the bolt if not keyed or the thread of either nut or bolt could be worn and result to the same thing. A mechanic can forget to tie the nut and you would have the same thing.

The easiest thing for anyone to say is that the ball joint pull out which may not be the case.

My dads case was that of nut which pulled out of the worn bolt and a key wasnt in place. He went 30metres off road in the bush but was lucky there wasnt any obstruction. Most roadside mechanics dont replace those keys after working on these joints. It is now our principle to make sure they put keys even if there wasnt one during disassembly. We both never leave the mechanic to work on his own unobserved.

The water spill is at the reserve tank not at the cap.

olumidazz: Are u sure your fan is not sucking air instead of blowing. I am not an expert or engineer but I experienced this kind of thing years ago in my golf.
Fans on cars are designed to suck air not blow. As the car travels forward and air blows on the radiator the fan also assist in sucking more air. If the fan blows air it will be blowing against the direction of air flow which will be pointless. Thats why a piece of paper or polythene gets stuck on the radiator and hardly falls.

The type of fan on this car, i dont know how it works. It is belt driven, but sometimes speeds up and down. When engine is not on, the fan is free and can be rotated by hand. I wonder at its mechanism.
Car Talk › Re: Honda Ball Joints And Upper Arms Problem by adanny01(m): 10:09pm On Sep 20, 2013
One small check you can do yourself for ball joints on any car.

1. Jack up one of the front tyres making sure the tyre is completely off the ground while the other on the ground.
2. Squat facing the tyre.
3. Hold the tyre at left and right positions
4. Repeatedly shake the tyre in a left and right movement. Try to notice a gap.
5. Next, place your hands up and down and shake again while trying to notice a gap.

6. Repeat the process for the other tyre.

The same can be done for cars with rear upper arms. Though only up and down movement is applicable.

Any gap or movement means you need to visit your mechanic asap. Note, the tyre is not suppose to move at all in any direction.

A gap in the left/right shake means a steering associated problem while the other is for upper arm mostly. The lower ball joint hardly fails but it should never be neglected.

I have personally experienced the lower ball joint and rear upper arm pull out. My dad experienced steering arm ball joint, front and rear upper arms pull out. Pull out of steering ball joint is the one shown on the pic posted. Both are from driving Honda accord in a 15yr period

Its been long that i have come to nairaland with a problem.

Finally, one is here but am lost on where to start.

The problem started 2months ago when i suddenly noticed coolant has disappeared from reserve tank and gone down in the radiator. I filled back both with about 4litres of water. 3 days later i checked again and found the same thing. Note, since i got the car, water level has never changed. My mechanic didnt notice any leakage. The temp guage always remains at its usual position just shy of the middle.

I had to check coolant every other day but discovered the problem happens erratically. 3days ago, i came back to my house from a 3km distance, the water in the reserve tank was boiling. Now it happens every small movement i make. Yesterday, it was boiling, today it became worst cos i refilled 3times.

I still believe the coolant is factory fitted since its still pink in colour. Note that the car was bought brand new in Nigeria and had a rollover accident (sumersoult) but engine wasnt affected. Replacing the original Toyota long life coolant should be after 160,000km which is now at 135,000km. Thermostat is still fitted.

Questions.
Can the coolant itself be the cause? In an order, which item should i start checking among these; thermostat, coolant, cooling fan, water pump. Where will the possible location of my thermostat be? I have ruled out leakage.

I will only go back to the mechanic when i am positive on the cause, for now its DIY. I also donot have a thermometer to carry out thermostat test.

Almost everyone has replied you on point.

Must have discouraged you. I will hang on the fence.

My main issue with your planned trip is your exposure to interstate travel. Meaning you will be required to exercise restraint when you see an all clear road with no traffic and no potholes with passengers aged between 18-20.

Having your friends in the car is a bad idea, cos friends tend to encaurage overspeeding. Even if they dont, would you restrain yourself from trying to impress them?

See, with all my experience, i have promised myself before embarking on a journey, not to exceed 120km/h but failed immediately driving conditions becomes best.

Above all, you will never know when you are ready, but your skill, judgement and ability to restrain yourself will determine how successfull the journey will be.

You will need full concentration i.e no making calls, no looking at those hot girls in bumshorts at Uyo and Cally. Your friends should not be distractive. Never follow AKTC behind but can follow ABC. Maintain a very safe braking distance from cars ahead of you. Watch out for cars coming from behind (dont change lanes without knowing whats coming from behind). All ways use turn signals. Set a speed limit and follow it through(not more than 100km/h for roads you are not familiar with, no matter how good it may look. The list is endless.

Take a decision.

Car Talk › Re: Advice On My Kia Cerato by adanny01(m): 5:05pm On Sep 15, 2013
Look at it this way, while assuming the used version of this car nonaccidented is sold for 1m or less.

You pay 500k in the company to fix it. You get the car after 3-6months. You get a buyer, say after 2months who pays you 8-900k. If u used a dealer for the sale and he collects a commision, say 50k or less. In summary, you sold this car as is for 350k after investing 500k for +/- 8months.

Or

You sell the car now 3-400k or even higher and count your losses.

If you decide to use the road side mechanics, you get less job quality and may at the end spend the same 500k while the value you get for the car is lower.

From my personal experience! You will gain nothing from repairing it. You will also not get much from it now.

My company car had a fatal accident roll over but no impact), which a road side mechanic was used for repairs. 1.3m was contracted for the repair and after rejecting it 4times, the company spent more than 300k to fix things that were either glued or forcefully screwed in place. Not counting those problems i 'manage' till date or the substandard parts used that breakdown every now and then. That car was barely worth 1.5m at that point, for a car bought brand new @more than 7m in '07

While test driving, rearview mirror fell on me when i tried to adjust it. Next, as the 6pm sun shone straight to my eyes the next day, i tried to use the visor, it fell on me too. I cannot recycle air in the car with A/C, exhaust fumes will make you cry(its a 5 door). Lastly, when it rains, i wont say more.

tokunboh: I guessed you did not take time to think these through before you type plus you may not have gone through the discussion trail. The boldest part of your statement actually tells you about the powers of the president and the limitations of the Governor when it comes to police matters - that's one of the simple explanation of separation of powers. The earlier post from your friend (or is it you with a different moniker) says the police should always obey whatever the governor says - they are not answerable to him. Any governor that tries to dictate to the police is usurping powers of the president regarding police matters. I hope you've been able to pick one or two points from here.
PS: we should always endeavour to research topics not just on the surface but deeply so we can have a proper understanding of it. You just got owned by an engineer that has never sat in a government class in secondary school
You quoted me wrong bro.

It is the duty of the police to advice and its the govenors right to reject their advise which they have to obey whatever choice he makes even if it endangers his life.
You also quoted out of context, which was the choice of route. You dont expect the police to require clearance from the president on the matter of the governor's itenery.
Politics › Re: Ameachi Denied Access To Govt House by adanny01(m): 11:21am On Sep 13, 2013
tokunboh: We are so backward to the extent that we always think it is right for rules to be bent for some people because they are highly placed. The New PDP secretariat that Amaechi opened illegally happens to be on the road that leads to the Government house. This secretariat was sealed with the road barricaded so as to prevent illegality and the breakdown of law and order. This is in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Amaechi is not in anyway different from other thousands of people that were barred from taking that road. He was even advised to take another route to the Govt House. Amaechi knew the road has been barricaded, yet he decided to take that route hoping that the police will allow him pass because he is the Governor. The law is above any man, and as such Amaechi should respect the laws and constitution of the land he has be falsely claiming he is defending. Let him stop making issues out of nothing, he could have used another road instead of the one that was barricaded. The press also needs to toe the line of decorum, why would they report that Amaechi was barred from the Govt house when he was only prevented from using one of the numerous roads that leads there. I stopped taking our tabloids seriously because I know 90% of their reportage can never be fair/balanced cos most of the news they report are sponsored and paid for. Yeye na virus oo, it spreads
Do you expect a convoy transporting more than a hundred people including the governor to make a u-turn?

Do you know the term called leverage? The president is using police the only leverage available to the Governor is the media. If the governor paid the media to report this, who paid the police to barricade the road? The police can only be right if they refuse him access to the new PDP premises but not that road, whether its his usual or not.

Do you know what it means to be the chief security officer of a state? It is the duty of the police to advice and its the govenors right to reject their advise which they have to obey whatever choice he makes even if it endangers his life.
