Autos › My Friends Golf 4 Engine In Serious Problem, Need Help! by adanny01(op): 11:25pm On Dec 15, 2010
My friend's golf 4 has been having an engine problem. The engine makes a cracking sound mostly in the hot afternoon as if the top gasket is burnt but i believe its over heating. The car has been computer diagnosed a month ago but with no big problem. The only problem was a cooling fan relay which was changed which solved the problem for two weeks. Later it started showing engine oil warning light and battery warning. The the sound came back seriously even at the cold harmattan night. Engine oil, filter and oil switch was changed but did nt solve the problem I need a solution and a possible cause.
On my own car i had the cooling system thermostat removed which reduced over heating but the cooling fan started working constantly. I advised the same thing for the golf 4 but his mechanic said his acc will nt work without the thermostat. Hows that true and is it best to remove these thermostats on cars as soon as they arrive NGR?
Also on my own car, a honda accord 97 model which i believe is a 4 speed auto but the car behaves like its a 5 speed auto when i drive with a/c in the hot afternoon. I noticed without a/c i travel at 140km/hr at an rpm of about 3750 but with a/c in the hot afternoon i achieve and maintain the same speed at 3250rpm. I also notice a small gear change when its already on the 4th speed which drops the rpm from about 3250 to 2850 at about 120km/hr. In a nut shell summary, sometimes the car runs 120km/hr at 3250rpm and sometimes at 2850rpm. Why the difference, or is the gear box design to adapt to some conditions?
I hope answers will flow.
Car Talk › Re: 2wd Vs 4wd Vs Awd by adanny01(m): 2:02pm On Dec 04, 2010
The link above tells it all.
There are a list of differences, advantages and disadvantages.
In addition 2wd is most economical cos u need less power for 2 wheels than 4 wheels. I also think that 2wd is faster than the 4wd or awd because of the transmission complexities.
4wd or awd has advantage over 2wd in special driving conditions such as mud, sand, wet/slippery roads etc

2001. That was the first time i had my yahoo e-mail address. After i bought 1hr @ N200 for my friend to open an account for me, he spent the whole time checking his mail and never successfully opened the account. I gave up for about 2months. Then a new cybercafe opened on campus which declared free 30mins daily for everybody for a week. That was my beginning. I and 4 of my friends got 2hrs30mins straight to open all our emails by watching what others were doing. Since i had more experience with the computer and typed faster, i was in front of it doing everything.

I Cant vote for either of these options cos there is a third option "The HYBRID"
They are really not city girls but neither are they village girls. Some village girls are as sharp as city girls and otherwise. My fiancée is neither a city girl nor a village girl, thats what i like.
NYSC › Re: Is There A Punishment For Deserting NYSC? by adanny01(m): 10:03pm On Nov 10, 2010
It will only affect you if you intend to take up a job with the civil service or go into politics

otherwise,its bunkum!
Na lie! All other companies registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission CAC are obliged to hire only graduates with NYSC discharge cert. The same way all companies are obliged to accept Industrial Training IT students.

In fact you can only be self employed or go abroad. Without NYSC ur grad cert is useless in Nigeria
NYSC › Re: Is There A Punishment For Deserting NYSC? by adanny01(m): 10:51pm On Nov 09, 2010
what about people that intend to join the military after school through direct/short service? Are they exempt? I know that ex-boys (nig. Military school grads) are exempt sha. Someone pls.
When you graduate you must serve if you are below 30yrs. You get exemption only if you are 30 before your graduation date or a serving military personnel which means you are already serving the country. If you dont serve, that certificate will not get you anything in Nigeria even to the military.
NYSC › Re: Is There A Punishment For Deserting NYSC? by adanny01(m): 10:37pm On Nov 09, 2010
In case the certificate gets missing, can one go back any branch of the secretariat to pick up another copy?
No certificate is replaceable even waec or neco. You may get a testimonial or some other document that will help you proof but not another certificate.

Back to the main question, if you desert NYSC, it is as good as you never served. You will be remobilised and reposted when you resurface but no punishement of another kind. A photo copy of your old posting letter will help when you resurface.

My Mother shouted from the shower while visiting her friend.
She pressed a button she didnt understand what it was for and boiling water flowed straight for her bare skin burning her back.

I was taking a shower from my hotel room when cold water supply stopped leaving only hot water from the heater flowing through the shower. I ran out Naked with foam all over me!

My village cousin came to my house and was asked to join the table for breakfast. He saw coffee but didnt see any Bornvita or Milo while every body was taking either tea or coffee. He said 'i dont like this thing (coffee), its too bitter'. This guy fetched a full table spoon for a tea cup and went for the second one before almost every body shouted stop! No wonder he does not like it!

These banks can be funny.

MY CASE WITH UBA
I requested for an ATM and was given but it never worked. I reported and the lady took my details and promised to solve the problem. At that time i just graduated and left the town the next day. A week later i tried my ATM and it worked but the balance was not exactly mine. My bal was  about N1200 but i saw N1000. So i thought there might be differences from the system inside and outside the bank. It happened then my uncle promised to send my sister some money so i drove her to the same bank. She tried her ATM and found the min bal. I just decided to try mine and i saw N5000. I thought my uncle sent the money to my acc instead so we called him to confirm and he said he has not found time to go to the bank! She now asked me to borrow her N2000 b4 he sends his to her then we will replace after i find out what was going on. My sister gave me back the money the nxt day which i decided to deposit it back to the acc. Then i decided to try something. When depositing i used the acc no on the ATM receipt. The teller discovered that the acc no was not mine but someone else and told me the name of the person. They tried to understand it but couldn't. I went out to try the atm again but it was reported stolen and the machine seized the card. I went to get it but they said i should go back to my sch where  i opened the acc. On reporting there 2mnths later, the initial lady whom i reported my card trouble shouted "so you are the one stealing money from that guys acc". HELL BROKE LOOSE AS I COULD NOT CONTAIN MY ANGER.

MY MOTHER'S/200 OTHER PPL'S CASE WITH UNITY BANK
My mum went to the bank last month when salaries where paid. To her amazement N20,000 was debited from her acc and more than a 1000 others almost every worker or retiree who had been operating the acc in the branch since 2007. On inquiry they claimed that sometime in May, 2007 they withdrew the said amount which did not belong to them. Everybody asked for statement of acc which they gave and charged everybody. My mum asked me to help her as she is not good in maths. I and every body else discovered that the statement from Jan 2007 to Sept 2010 was missing of only one month. Guess! ''MAY 2007''. The case is in court!

To the best of my understanding, Shari'a law encourages hypocrisy. It should focus on making its followers fear God rather than man. Whats the point if i dont hug outside but take my girl to my room and f__k her brains out!
Autos › Re: New Golf 4 For Sale! by adanny01(m): 1:31pm On Oct 28, 2010
adanny01,
if you've been on nairaland autos long enough you should have known by now that most naija used second hand cars are always priced higher than their tokunbo alternatives. this issue has been visited over and over again and the thinking seems to be that a lot of this sellers probably bought their cars for higher prices in their own time and so selling at a slightly reduced price (compared to what they paid for it) they think they are doing prospective buyers a favour.
this is the scenario: imagine me buying a 2002 camry xle for 2.1m in 2008 and now i want to sell it. i will probably remove 200k and shed it for 1.8m quite oblivious of the fact that the same 2002 camry (direct tokunbo) is now selling for 1.5m. when someone comes along and offers 1.3m i get furious and begin to throw tantrums. such is the case with mmenieema albeit on a golf 4.
Point of correction, i registered on Nairaland 4 months before you did, only that u've been more active than me.

George D
I can only excuse the guy because he is not presently in Nigeria and has not kept himself abreast with the current market price of his vehicle. Right now i know the market value of my car Naija used and otherwise, therefore, i cannot ask for what this poster is asking for. Nonetheless, my father bought a Honda accord 86 model for 250k in 1998 and sold it 3 months ago for 200k. That was because the car was almost a gift from my uncle at the time. Unless this guy mmenieema has been or is in North Korea he should update himself with current prices before posting such prices.
Autos › Re: New Golf 4 For Sale! by adanny01(m): 9:23pm On Oct 26, 2010
Harsh words are not good for a non provoking post, yes. But i still fault the poster for asking for a ridiculously unrealistic price for a Naija used Golf 4 which if anybody pays him that amount he is supposed to say thank you, but its too much take your change. My friend bought the same car 2003 model full options (Except leather seats) grade 1 from Cotonou to Kaduna for a total of 1.05mil through a car dealer for that matter. How can somebody ask anybody for 1.3mill for the same car Naija used and not even 2003 model.

Car Talk › Re: Which One Is Faster Automatic Or Manual Gear Transmission? by adanny01(m): 6:40pm On Oct 09, 2010
Never heard of any sort of transmission giving head pain (I mean head ache). Must be a new breed of manual transmission, that I've never come across. And taking drugs to enable one drive a manual on bad roads - if people will take drugs just because they encounter difficulty driving, then I'm sorry, they shouldn't be driving any sort of vehicle at all. A drug addict will always find ways to justify their drug habits - the weather was too bad, their cat ate their dog, their yam harvest was bad, their roof sprung a leak, the excuses are endless.
Am sure u have more car experience than i do but try driving for a whole day, then come back and tell us how u feel. Then drive all day for 5 days. AM sure u drive to work and back .No matter the traffic u cant compare it to a commercial bus/taxi driver. Am sure u've never been in their shoes. U cant imagine the pain. Research has showed that tired/stressed/over worked drivers tend to drive recklessly and do drugs, thats why commercial drivers behave the way they do. I used to drive a manual but had to change to auto when i got my new job and had to drive up to 600km a day and work, Head ache was almost constant for me then, but now its far less after i changed to auto.
Understand that the brain works more when driving a manual than auto. Any Doctor in the house can confirm that u get more tired driving a manual than auto. If u drive more distances and hold ups auto is best for ur health.

Anyway we have digressed from the real issue but its also a good discussion. I do agree that auto is slower.
Car Talk › Re: Which One Is Faster Automatic Or Manual Gear Transmission? by adanny01(m): 11:52pm On Oct 08, 2010
Manuals are still faster though, if comparing two cars with the same engine.
When ppl here insist on faster for manual i agree, but we are not racers lets be realistic. We are Nigerians with heavy traffic and car killing pot holes that u have to almost stop for on our roads. Ask bus and taxi drivers why they take drugs to drive, simple, MANUAL! Every driver will experience back pain, must u add foot pain and head pain (head ache) if u can avoid it with an auto?
To hell with foot pain and head pain and enjoy the steady smooth drive to wherever u are going! Afterall i can still go 160km/hr on the auto!

My favourite which i ve not seen anybody mention is tea with Fried Irish potatoes, fried egg, tomato ketchup and occasionally kidney pepper soup.
Tea is a constant with everything i take for breakfast.
The most frequent is Tea and bread with eggs or margarine or jam and sometimes with fried yams or fried sweet potatoes.
Occasionally oat meal or corn flakes or Rice pudding or acca pudding or my tribes local Anzekpu with nonon shanu(corn pudding)
Dont mind my wide range of varieties cause am from the north.

When i start my 97 honda accord the car or switch the ignition switch to II, the SRS indicator does not go off. It stays on, i dont know how to go about repairing it.
Two electricians refused to touch anything. One suggested i disconnect the battery overnight which will reset the memory of the 'brain box'. which i did without any result. The other said the airbag will still deploy in an event of an accident. That i should just ignore the light as it is a usual problem with hondas.
I need useful advice on how to go about repairing it and maybe others who maybe experiencing the same problem might benefit from the technical advice.

Its possible your idle RPM (Slow) is very low. Let your mechanic adjust it to about 700 - 800 rpm without A/C if its less than 500 rpm.
