buygala:Am sure we don't share the same opinion and I definitely do not feel I can do better than all the painters in Nigeria. What ever the mess of a paint I will make will not be worst than my sister's car that was painted a year ago or the current state of my car. That I know for sure. I asked you for an opinion and yours is one. |
My 600k is still on the table |
Agbagbaregoo:Simple trust issues blown out of proportion. This means she was innocent afterall. She saw it and you concluded. All you needed to do was to tell her you have and maintain your word. The bank is not responsible for any, they just exposed your lack of trust. You really f....d up. |
Zane2point4:Filling and Sanding is what I am looking forward to. Thats where the real painting job is. And thats where i have big ideas and wish to make my work better than the shop. It is tedious thats why I don't want to do it entirely by hand. How many painters use power sanders? They used the young apprentices. I want to combine manual and power sanding. This will save time and energy but give me the desired output. |
diportivo:I really get am for strong head but I dey fear failure too. I really cannot understand why DIY car painting is perceived to be such an impossible job when I turn my head and see badly painted cars daily. Every time I see such badly painted car, I tell myself, I can do better than this shit. I know what I am up against. The only fence that is too tall to climb now is the locked borders. I can't get some tools locally, I need them soon before I lose steam or divert my attention to other things. |
Angelfrost:He actually did it. I know an SA in government house whose salary was slashed too. Judiciary salaries has not been paid for 2 months now. They refused the deduction and refused to process their salaries. |
Kaduna state Judiciary are also fighting the governor on the 25% even though quietly. They refused their salary for last month and they have entered the 3rd month without salary to a single judiciary staff. Civil servants in general are not happy with many cursing the governor. The truth is that civil servants are not happy but are helpless in the situation. Judiciary and now the health workers are critical civil servants who in all justification are still working and exposing themselves. Its so unfortunate that they will abandon their duty post at this time to fight the governor. The governor simply didn't choose his fight well. This 25% deductions is so unpopular that I wonder who or what convinced him to do it. |

AutoElectNG:I'll be reading much much on the sprays. Yes, technique brings out the job. In fact, I noticed on the videos one important thing that I never see painters here do. That is sanding clear coat the buffing. Our painters just spray clear coat and let it cure. This leaves imperfections but sanding removes the Orange peel and every rough surface. The buffing bit I saw on Jumia is not local, so getting it may still be a challenge. This means, if I dont get it locally, I cannot sand the clear coat except for 2nd or more coat. Research still in progress. |
AutoElectNG:I have a metal sheet around the house for that purpose. I also planned to practice painting a house gate. An apprentice is a good idea, I'll be on a look out for one. HVLP is an acronym that I came across so many times. The design for the pump I intend to get is HVLP. The 2 spray guns I have found are quite nearly a replica of each other. 1 from Jumia and 1 from Konga. I have seen a lot of these sprays on AliExpress and Amazon with specifications better than the ones on local marchant sites. Those I am sure should suffice but shipping is a headache. I have items from AliExpress that are over 2months and not arrived. Its the same story for everyone using any foreign marchant store. Besides, the shipping cost for such an item is 8 times the cost of the item. Its not logical to buy something for 15k and spend over 100k to ship it. For now, everything has to be local. |
sulaak:When you work for government, they send you to workshops and seminars. Those are training to be effective in your field. By the time you reach the top, you would have gained enough training and experience in management even without sitting in a classroom to get an academic qualification. |
Ningen:He should not do that. His colleagues will know, they are not dumb. He either takes action by himself or tell his boss directly. He should give them ultimatum to stop of he has no choice than to tell. He should also be careful, not telling his boss puts him at risk with the colleagues. Some ppl can do anything to get money. If he is a threat, thats dangerous for his safety. |
AutoElectNG:So, after watching these videos and a lot of others. I find myself asking one simple question. Can the Total Electric Spray Gun be adequate for an average car paint finish? The only determining factor of this project happening is having an effective and affordable spray gun. Getting an air compressor is out of the question due to budget constraints. The issue apparently is getting proper atomisation of the paint at a reasonable flow rate. Proper atomisation will reduce the orange peel effect especially during clear coat painting. Good atomisation at fairly high flow rate will speed up painting process. I also understand the nozzle size is important especially with filler primers. I have not found the nozzle size specification for the spray gun plus it only comes with 1 nozzle as against other manufacturers that include as much as 3. I am still searching for information on the practicability of this spray gun painting a car before I waste money in buying the spray gun. Oh, i also realized from watching these videos that our local painters don't do nearly half of the work done to produce a good finish. The research continues.

sulaak:When you say management, I guess you understand that the Engr wasn't appointed MD direct from the University classroom. If an Engr cannot manage an Engineering company, what makes you think that an Accountant or Legal practioner will know what is required to deliver an Engineering service. If the Accountant should stay in accounts dept, the legal practioner in the legal department, the Civil Engr in the Civil department, the Electrical engineer in the Electrical department all of an electricity servicing company, who is more qualified to lead every professional dept to the delivery of electricity? What makes an accountant or legal practioner a better manager? I am an Engineer, I did courses like Engineering management, Law for Engineers, Cost Engineering etc. I also did a certificate course on Management before register with the Nigerian Institute of Management, as well as Nigeria Society of Engineers and COREN. Most Engrs rise through the ranks in Civil service, they attend workshops on Management as well as Engineering to succeed in their jobs. Nurses are medical practioners but never heads a hospital. |
At last government has realized the need to have Engineers lead the power sector instead of Accountants. TCN and NIPP had always been led by Accountants for God knows why. The government were more interested in the money than the actual job which is power. With an engineer heading TCN, we hope for a better TCN and power management. In the same vein, DISCO's are headed by business managers instead of engineers. Districts are called Business districts, this emphasizes that the job the districts have is to generate revenue not distribution of electricity. We need to change a lot before power delivery is stabilized in this country. |
revilomichaels:I tell myself I am a handyman in Nigeria. I am an Engineer by profession but a technician by indulgence. I take my TV apart before I take it to the street TV repair man. My mechanic thinks I am stingy because he can't do the usual Kazeem with me (they sometimes get away with it).. My Kitchen cabinet was a friend's idea, he said, "why do you have to pay for this, I trust you, you can do it. Just go to Panteka (Kaduna)". Before anyone knew it, I did my bed, my TV console and planing to do a whole lot. On this job, I may not achieve the best standards that'll win titles but I know that the outcome won't be worst than the present condition. The only thing I am watching out for is the budget. I have been reading and many things worry me about the job. As much as I want the result to be impressive, I only want what is acceptable. Oh, I remember. I was supposed to fix my neighbors child bicycle chain this evening. |
AutoElectNG:Actually, I considered based on your suggestion making a shed with wood and cement bags sawn together. It is something we make or buy to spread for drying harvested crops such as maize, guinea corn, rice, beans etc I also read somewhere to tape the car and then paint the following morning. Before the paint, one should wet the surrounding to reduce dust. I also read insects may be attracted to the paint smell and may land on the fresh paint. A shed will be handy in this case. |
AutoElectNG:While most painters use an air compressor, I don't see anyone renting out. Except for furniture makers. If successful with a DIY Electric spray gun, I am sure by the time i rent 3 times, the cost of the spray gun will be covered. That is the most expensive tool to buy. I will certainly watch these videos before I make my conclusion and will share progress if I embark on the project. |
nurey:Normally, the entire car cannot be sanded by a sander, there are areas where only manual sanding can reach.. The front wheel arc has black mudguard and the rear is black and doesn't require paint. I am only painting the exterior surface in same colour and will apply clear coat on sanded headlight and rear lights. I will have to tape/cover, windscreen and any black rubber/plastic including wipers, rear glass, windows and chrome trims, roof gutter trims, wheel arcs and tires, underneath the rear view mirrors, front bumper radiator vent, head light and rear logos. The rear lights will be removed. Taping is the least job I consider. Sading is the most difficult job while painting most critical. Most recommendations will say sand the car to the metal, this is never done by Nigerian painters. My car has already 2 layers of paint, so sanding to the metal is not going to be easy. The least work to do in the sanding is to remove the last clear coat. That's my aim. The other critical sanding job is filling and sanding imperfections. I know I have a good eye to spot them. |
omoburuku:Shave all you pubic hair. And wash all you boxers in a strong mix of anti septic |
Babatunde40:I was about to say people like you are coming. I was mistaken, people like you had arrived even before I did. |
So, my car is about 6yrs and the paint is in bad shape, thats apart from scratches and dents by family and friends. The plan is to buy an electric spray gun (see image below), sanding discs for electric drill, buffer for electric drill, paint, thinner, clear coat, primmer, scotch tape and old newspapers. The panel beating will be done by competent panel beater. My motivation is lack of funds to contract the best services for the job. Also, the cheap ones will not do a good job. I paid 30k for my sister's car last year but at this time, my car painted 6yrs ago is far better off. From my reading, the main work in painting a car is the preparation (sanding precisely). Actual painting does not take more than 5hrs but the preparation will take days - weeks to get it right. I know if I Do-It-Myself, it will come out better. The only part I am scared of is the actual painting i.e getting right viscosity and colour. Challenges: - I am not sure if the electric spray gun will be adequate. The main decision is buying the spray gun. - The Spray gun itself cost more than half of the budget but if successful, I may do 2 other projects which will eventually be the cost advantage. - I have no experience in paint mixing or thinning - I am also afraid of the job being too tedious or that without a garage cover, dust may make the job bad.

legalwealth:I am referring to the Euro and Asia model. The ones sold brand new in Nigeria are made in Thailand. Mine is the US model. Yes, I removed the 1st half but still have the 2nd half on. The Cat got blocked, I changed 2 exhaust flange gaskets before a mechanic diagnosed a blocked car. Its been 3yrs now. |
legalwealth:It is not my opinion that Catalyst is not useful. I also own a 2003 Honda Accord since 2014. In the US, you must pass an emissions test to legally drive the car but not in Nigeria. That means if you have a bad cat in the US, you must fix it but its a choice here. Here, it was only by luck that my engine didn't develop problems due to block catalyst. A 2003-7 will forgive a blocked catalyst but a 2008-12 will not. The 2003-7 has its exhaust flange gasket before the Cat and the 2008-12 has the gasket after the Cat. The saviour is the gasket will burn and leak when the cat is blocked in the 2003-7 but in the 2008-12, the back pressure has no relief and goes to the engine damaging rings and valves. Catalyst has its use if you care about the environment or you are being legally required to use it. |
legalwealth:The only reason I cannot confirm to you that a 2004 Accord made in Europe or Asia has or doesn't have a catalyst is because I never owned nor had access to one and cannot confirm. If i have confirmed that 3 2007 Toyotas dont have catalyst, your guess will be as good as mine. It is plausible for a 2004 Honda accord to not have it. It is the laws in the US that made every Honda accord in that country to have the catalyst. It is not a basic component of a drive train, it is an emission control component so you dont find it in every car and in every country. If we should produce cars in Nigeria, without the necessary law, no one will put Catalyst in their cars. Its presence in cars reduces performance and fuel economy. |
legalwealth:I am not buying a 2004 Honda accord. I never claimed to own a Prado but I used one for 3yrs. |
legalwealth:I used a 2007 Toyota Prado bought brand new without Catalyst. |
Microwhy:I do not entirely agree with you. One can have 60% of the characteristics of being an introvert and 40% of the characteristics of an extrovert but classified introverted. What introverts show is what you described. But the actual truth is that they fight a war inside (speaking from experience). They have an opinion but fight a war with themselves and end up not saying it. They get angry and end up walking away in anger without any action. Recently, my community people organized themselves to repair a road. I am an engineer so my input was highly regarded but when they were going to cast a culvert slab with just 2 bags of cement, I just whispered in my neighbor's ear, this cement is not enough. He repeated my words aloud immediately without thinking. That is an extrovert while i am an introvert. I took time to analyze the quantity of concrete and did the math in my head before whispering my conclusion. Lets not get these things confused. Some people say its just lack of confidence that makes one introverted but i think is more a character than a problem. An introvert and an extrovert are complete opposite of themselves, one has to be in one place. |
legalwealth:The Honda engineers that produced some European and Asian models without catalytic converters are not automotive industry experts abi? |
Nyamve1:He is paid a salary, if the salary is not enough, he can quit but not steal. |
Nyamve1:Bros, stealing is stealing. A mindset like yours is the reason Nigeria is the way it is. Am sure if he asked for a can of milo, he will get it from Banky but stealing it is a crime. |
legalwealth:Does he have to replace? |
