I have a friend who is a talented keyboardist, singer, actor, dancer, and comedian. this guy is the complete entertainment package. He wanted to study music but his parents never supported it. They wanted him to be an engineer, he wrote jamb a couple of time and did not get admission. After a while he got admission to study physics, he couldn't cope in class and struggled to graduate. He is so broken, lost, has no desire for a fulfilled life anymore.. I weep in my heart whenever I see him cos I know his parents have turned someone who would have soared to the top of the world into a mere observer. I keep praying and encouraging him to keep moving forward. This attitude by parents is prevalent in middle class and low income homes. The parents want their kids to study popular courses so as to raise the family profile and possible earnings when the child starts working. But take a look at the very rich and super rich class, they encourage their kids to follow their passion because the bag is already secured. No wonder these kids usually succeed in areas such as music, arts, fashion, literature, etc. Education without passion is no education at all.

The other cars you mentioned are in a class of their own entirely while a Benz is in its own lane with the likes of Audi, BMW, VW depending in the classes. the average man is mentally conditioned by the society, parents, family n friends to suck it up. Right from childhood he is told that crying is a sign of weakness, he is told to "be a man" even when his beliefs, needs and desires are denied. He has to March on.. The average man was never prepared for a relationship, unlike girls who are trained to be care givers from day one even with the toys she plays with. Boys are rather trained to be more like soldiers, trained to fight, to contest, to be stronger, to score points in games then money then women and they grow up with that mindset that cages him and deep communication becomes a problem. The average male has a communication problem. Ask any man right now what are you thinking? And his answer is either "nothing or I was thinking about you". Self expression is a big issue cos he wasn't trained that way. so when he gets abused at home he does what he knows best, bottles it inside. until it degenerates into something that almost destroys him.

The problem I have with Nigeria programmers is they are not solution oriented. They just want to do a job and get paid rather than building a platform that can actually solve serious problems encountered by the society. Nigerian developers have so much potential due to the myriad of issues we face would they take advantage of it? Time will tell.
