How can a security expert differentiate between malicious and legit traffic? They both request the same webpages.
Also, it's not as if the bad guys are bruteforcing the server. They are accessing the server from different IP addresses simultaneously.

And also its not like these servers can be accessed from a website

DDOS has nothing to do with security. Even if your server is highly secured, you can still be ddos'd.
DDOS just means that a server is bombarded with bogus traffic from 100's of 1000's of IP addresses. That keeps the server so busy, that legit users cannot load the webpage.

So on voting day, if the servers are ddos'd, voters cannot load the webpage, and hence, cannot vote.
If you know the solution to that, please share it.

Russia did it to Estonia a long time ago. I don't know how Estonia overcame it.

The constitution says people must come out to vote. you are talking about about online voting. that's different from e Voting and more secure to implement. Estonia uses voting machines .. similar to using atms as voting machines.

You know? here in England it's Against the law Not to make your car plate visible.

The car has a plate number, just that it is covered. if its stolen you can identify it through the number or other features known to the owner. however most of these cars are usually official vehicles and I have never heard of a stolen official car.. never. its like thieves purposely avoid them.
There is no logic behind covered plates. Its because they don't want to be identified where they go, that's why they use it.

The president doesn't use numbered plates, The bulk of people who use covered plates also ride with police escorts. so who is fooling who. Even if they ban The use of covered plates, people will still use it and nothing will happen.

Why do u think a lot of billionaires and millionaires own charities and cooperations and will most of their properties to them. It serves as a means of shielding properties from divorce cases. If you must buy a house for yourself use a cooperation. The house is seen as a property of the company and not your personal property. You are shouting prenup, postnup up and down. Such agreements can always be invalidated and thrown out by the court esp if it's one sided or can be proven to be done under duress. It happens a lot. If you must sign a prenup let it be fair to both parties. The last presidential elections was marred by violence, unsavoury practices by INEC staff, security agencies and political parties. The looser is not the candidate who was beaten, it's the Nigerian voter who was disenfranchised. I have always been an advocate of Electronic voting and I think it's time Nigerians joined in on the discussion. There are a lot of different views as and I feel we can educate ourselves and help sensitise those around us. What everyone wants is credible elections and as it is now voting papers, ballot boxes, manual collating of results cannot give us that. If Electronic voting systems is implemented and deployed rightly, maybe for the first time in this country the vote of every Nigerian will count.

The voting machine takes care of authentication and accreditation but it can also be done manually as backup if necessary. And also its not like these servers can be accessed from a website. The hacker has to go to the location physically making it easier for him to get caught. At least there will be no ballot snatching, massive thumb printing, shooting and beating of voters, E voting cannot be easily rigged except with the help of top INEC officials themselves and even at that a very good forensic and digital footprint search can prove if the system has been compromised. No system is perfect but E voting will prevent loss of lives and waste of billions in printing materials and will also help with collation and save time... we won't have to wait almost one week before we W know who worn... E voting is very simple to deploy.. for instance imagine if we could vote with ATMs used currently by banks. Currently all banks in Nigeria operate a closed n secure system. so for a hacker to hack a banks network, he has to physically enter the bank and gain access to its firewall. No bank will willingly allow that.
However I have it on good authority that INEC has E voting facilities already, they are just waiting for a bill to back it up for it to be used.

this is how we should be thinking. the problem we have in Nigeria is that we have so many idiots. Who can no longer reason for themselves despite all the degrees and certificates they have gotten. You can't just announce somebody the winner of an election without valid data to back it up.
