DEMANDS FOR EXPERIENCING THE PEACE OF GOD

When you receive Jesus Christ into your life, you have received peace. He guides us into the way of peace

SCRIPTURE: Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Romans 5:1.

THOUGHT FOR THE: Justification by faith or being born again is the entry point into the Peace of God.

Yesterday, we saw some scriptural facts about the peace of God. 

Now, to experience this peace, there are scriptural demands to be met. Today, we shall look at some of the demands.

1. Justification by faith

Justification by faith or being born again is the entry point into the Peace of God (Romans 5:1). Being born again is the entry point into the mercy of God. Jesus died so that we may walk in peace. He was beaten on the Cross that you may have peace (Isaiah 53:5). So, when you receive Jesus Christ into your life, you have received peace. He guides us into the way of peace (Luke 1:76-79). The mission of Jesus is to bring peace to us (Luke 2:14). Jesus is our Peace (Ephesians 2:14-16). No wonder He is called the Prince of peace (Isaiah 9:6).

Beloved, you cannot have Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace and be in pieces. You cannot have the Prince of Peace and be in crisis. You have the right to make demands on the peace of God when you are born again. You can say, “Jesus, you died on the Cross of Calvary for my peace, I reject this conflict and crisis”.

2. A heart stayed on God

Having a heart stayed on God is a secret of the peace of God (Isaiah 26:3). It is not the heart stayed on marriage or house rent issues that the scripture said will have peace, but a heart stayed on God. God keeps in perfect peace those whose hearts are stayed on Him. So, what you mind determines the peace you have. Don’t permit your heart to wander about and be troubled; centre your heart on God. 

3. Hand all your cares and worries over to God.

This is a major secret of peace. You will experience peace if you hand all your cares and worries over to God (Philippians 4:6-7).

Beloved, make up your mind to hand all your worries and pressures over to God. When you hand your worries over to God completely, you will feel lighter and He will give you rest (Matthew 11:28-29). God is saying to you, “Bring your problems to me. Give them all to me, and you will find peace”. (1 Peter 5:7). If there is anything that is putting your life under pressure, it means you have not yet handed that thing over to God. It is not possible to truly hand anything over to God and still be worrying about it. 

Handing your cares and worries over to God is key to a world of peace.

Remember this: Justification by faith or being born again is the entry point into the Peace of God.

You are not permitted to know God and your life is crisis-full, pressure-full, or “peace-less”. No! God is the God of peace.

SCRIPTURE: Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen. Romans 15:33 

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: It is not possible for anyone to have true peace without knowing God.

We have seen in our previous studies, what peace is all about. We also saw the necessity of peace. 

Today, we shall be looking at some key facts on peace.

1. God is the God of peace. 

God is the Owner, Custodian, and Author of peace. This implies that it is not possible for anyone to have true peace without knowing God. So, God is the Author of peace. No wonder, Romans 15:33 says, Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen. 

God is the God of peace. This is also confirmed in other scriptures like Romans 16:20; 1 Corinthians 14:33; 1 Thessalonians 5:23, and Hebrews 13:20. 

You see, you are not permitted to know God and your life is crisis-full, pressure-full, or “peace-less”. No! God is the God of peace.

2. Peace is a blessing and provision of God for His people. 

God is not just the God of peace; He provides peace for His people.

It is God’s will to bless His people with peace. Peace is a blessing and provision of God for His people (Psalm) 29:11. Peace is an ordination for God’s people (Isaiah 26:12). The Kingdom of God is a Kingdom of peace, a Kingdom of joy, and a Kingdom of righteousness (Romans 14:17). Halleluiah! 

3. The covenant of peace connects God’s people to the peace of God. 

God is the God of peace. Peace is His blessing for you, but you connect that peace from the covenant of peace (Isaiah 54:10, Ezekiel 34:25-26, Ezekiel 37:26, Malachi 2:4-5) 

Now, covenant with God implies demands to be met by man for deliveries to be made by God. For example, when we talk about the covenant of service, it requires the scriptural demand for service to be met by man before he can access the deliveries of supernatural supplies and good health from God. Exodus 23:25 says, “And ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee”.

This means, if you want God to bless you, you must serve Him. In the same way, in walking in the covenant of peace, there are demands to be met by man in order for the delivery of peace to be made by God. Romans 14:19 says, Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

So, there are things that make for peace, and when you follow those things, you access the peace of God.

Remember this: it is not possible for anyone to have true peace without knowing God.

There is knowledge in stillness. There is something to know when you are at peace. If you are still, you will know…

SCRIPTURE: Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The peace of God attracts instruction, revelation and direction from God.

In our previous studies, we saw two reasons why peace is needed in our lives. We saw that peace is needed to confront and conquer certain storms that may arise in our journey of life. We also saw that we need peace or rest from anxiety for God to work in our lives.

Now, another reason why peace is needed is that the peace of God attracts instruction, revelation and direction from God. Psalms 46:10 says, Be still, and know that I am God…

There is knowledge in stillness. There is something to know when you are at peace. If you are still, you will know…

Numbers 9:8 says, And Moses said unto them, Stand still, and I will hear what the Lord will command concerning you.

This means, if there is too much tension and worry around you, you can’t hear anything from God. When you stand still, you will hear. So, calm down! Moses seemed to say to the children of Israel, “Your noise is disrupting my hearing. Your worry is disrupting my hearing. Your tension is disrupting my hearing from God. Stand still! Calm down! And I will hear.” 

Isaiah 55:12 says, For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

So, if you need to be led, you can only be led while peace is in place. You shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace. So, God is saying to you, “Calm down! Let me talk to you. Calm down, let me show you who I AM. Just calm down! Your mind is like a football field – too many things are running through it. You are just roaming up and down. Calm down!”

The peace of God is the fountain of true joy. And you know that joy is key to strength. You cannot have joy if you lack peace. Proverbs 12:20 says, Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

This means, there is joy for those who possess peace and offer it to others.

Romans 15:13 says, Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace…

Beloved, when God fills you with joy, it goes with peace. It is impossible to have joy when you lack peace. It is impossible to be excited in anxiety. It is impossible to be happy when you are anxious. It is impossible to have joy when you are concerned about everything. Therefore, make up your mind to have peace at all cost.

Remember this: The peace of God attracts instruction, revelation and direction from God.

CONFRONTING AND CONQUERING THE STORMS OF LIFE

Peace is needed to confront and conquer sudden storms that may arise in your journey of life.

SCRIPTURE: And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. Mark 4:39.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Peace is needed to confront and conquer sudden storms that may arise in your journey of life.

The peace of God is an indispensable necessity in life and destiny. The peace of God is the answer to the storms of life. Peace is needed to confront and conquer sudden storms that may arise in your journey of life. 

We can see an example from the Scripture: One day, Jesus Christ was in a boat with his disciples in a sea and a storm arose. 

Mark 4:35-39 says, And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

At times, sudden storms may arise while you are embarking on an important journey in life. That is why the peace of God is needed. 

Now, when the storm arose, Jesus seemed to say, “I confront you storm, with peace. You storm, Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. Halleluiah!

You know, most times, the storms of life arise without notice, and they come to put pressure on your content. Sometime ago, we were flying to France, and as we were trying to land, the aircraft came close to the ground but took off suddenly and violently into the air. People began to panic, and at that moment, I was reminded of a prophetic declaration: “If it would crash, you won’t be inside, and if you are inside, it won’t crash”. So, I remained seated peacefully. Shortly after that, the pilot apologised for the failure of the automatic landing system; meaning, what should have landed the aircraft failed. But shortly after that, it became normal, and the plane landed successfully. 

You see, when the emergencies of life occur, what you need is the peace of God.

Beloved, determine to go for the peace of God so you can confront and conquer sudden storms that may arise in your journey of life.

THE NECESSITY OF PEACE

The peace of God is needed to withstand and overcome the regular pressures and troubles of this world.

SCRIPTURE: These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The peace of God is needed to withstand and overcome the regular pressures and troubles of this world.

Yesterday, we looked at what peace is all about. We gave some very insightful definitions of peace, both from the English Dictionary and from the scriptures.  

Today, we shall be looking at the necessity of peace. 

Now, why is peace necessary? 

Peace is necessary because:

The Peace of God is needed to withstand and overcome the regular pressures and troubles of this world. 

There are troubles and pressures that confront life on earth from time to time. Now, some of these pressures are natural. For instance, it takes pressure naturally for a baby to be born. At delivery, the mother has to push for the baby to come forth, and the baby must cooperate with the mother in this process. If the mother is pushing and the baby is docile, the labour may not progress. So, it is pressure that brings out a child from the womb. And when the child is born, he/she must cry. That cry is needed to open the lungs for normal respiratory activity. If the child does not cry at birth, it signals an emergency. After a while, the child learns to sit and crawl by applying pressure. Then the child begins to stand and fall, and stand again in order walk erect on two feet like every normal human being. That is normal pressure.

In the world, some pressures are common (John 16:33). For example, in your place of work, you may be attacked, not because you are doing anything wrong, but because someone doesn’t like you. There are pressures everywhere in the world, but when you have peace, you pass through them as if they don’t exist. The effect of pressure is zero on your life when you have the peace of God that passes understanding. 

Peace is also needed to withstand and overcome the regular negative news we hear and watch every day. When you turn on your television, you hear terrible things that may put you under pressure emotionally or psychologically. You may have wanted to travel and suddenly, you heard that there were armed robbery operations on the road a day before. This may cause tension and pressure.

You need peace to withstand and overcome such tension and pressure. Someone may accidentally hit your car while driving, and you come under sudden pressure and tension. But the question is: would you have been happy if it was your leg the car hit and broke? Certainly NO! So, maintain your peace and move on instead of giving in to that pressure and tension.  

Beloved, understand that the problems of life do not serve notice. That is why you need the peace of God to withstand and overcome the regular pressures and troubles of this world. 

Remember this: The peace of God is needed to withstand and overcome the regular pressures and troubles of this world.

UNDERSTANDING PEACE

Peace is the state of quietness and confidence under all circumstances.

SCRIPTURE: And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever. Isaiah 32:17.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Peace is the state of quietness and confidence under all circumstances.

In our previous study, we established that many people have one form of misconception or the other of what peace is all about. They try to do many things in a desperate quest for peace and fulfilment to the detriment of their souls. This is because they don’t know what peace is truly all about. 

In our study today, we shall seek to understand what true peace is all about. I will give you two definitions of peace from the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, and three other definitions based on Scriptures. 

Now, what is peace?

1. Freedom from anxiety

The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines peace as freedom from anxiety or distress; it is the state of tranquillity. So, when one is said to be at peace, it means one is free from anxiety and distress.

2. Freedom from conflicts

The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary also defines peace as a state or period in which there is no war or war has ended. It is freedom from conflicts and crisis. When your life is free from crisis, we say that you are at peace.

3. Peace is the stability of heart and mind in the midst of confrontation or adversity (Philippians 4:6-7). 

To have peace is like having a feather that is unruffled in the midst of crisis or storm. It is such stability of heart and mind in the midst of confrontations or adversities that makes people wonder whether you are not in the same world with them. It may be personal or generational confrontations.

4. Peace is a state of calmness and restfulness in the midst of pressure or urgency (Philippians 4:6-7). 

Peace gives you freedom from every form of tension. During the construction of the Glory Dome, the international headquarters of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, many people who came to see me at that time wondered why I was so much at peace with such a massive construction going on. It is called the peace of God that beats all understanding. Peace is the state of calmness and restfulness in the midst of pressure. It is a state where you are free from tensions and urgencies.

5. Peace is the state of quietness and confidence under all circumstances.

Peace is the state of quiet assurance and confidence (Isaiah 32:17). There seems to be something you are confident in. Righteousness equals peace, quietness and assurance. This means, peace equals quietness and assurance. It is the state of quiet assurance and confidence under all circumstances. When you experience peace, you cannot be recruited into the generational panic and fear that everyone experiences. 

Beloved, God shall give you peace by all means in Jesus Name (2 Thessalonians 3:16).

Remember this: Peace is the state of quietness and confidence under all circumstances.

Beloved, the quest for false peace and false fulfilment has driven many people to the extremes of life, but true peace is found only in God.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The quest for false peace and false fulfilment has driven many people to the extremes of life, but true peace is found only in God. 

In our world today, people want to have peace with themselves, peace with their world, and peace with God. These are the three levels of peace that people look for – Peace within themselves (that is inner peace), peace with their world, and peace with their Maker. 

Most people today live the way they want and do what they do because they think that they would have peace and fulfilment from what they do. They struggle to get money, power, fame, popularity, entertainment, and fun, all in a craving for peace. This quest for peace has taken some people to the extremes of life. Most extreme human behaviours are driven by this quest for peace and fulfilment. 

Solomon, for example, married seven hundred wives. He went further to have three hundred concubines, that is, one thousand women, all in his life.  He became so empty that he declared in Ecclesiastes 1:2: vanity upon vanity, all is vanity. That is, vanity multiplied by vanity, all is vanity. Solomon could not have fulfilment in immorality. He could not have it in the multiplication of women. 

Alexander the great, in his time, conquered the then known world in his youthful age. And when there was nothing more to conquer, he became very frustrated. At the point of his death, he asked people to pour on the floor all the diamonds and other precious stones and jewels he had acquired as a result of his conquest because none of them gave him the peace and fulfilment he craved for. He was empty of peace and bankrupt of fulfilment from all the treasures he acquired by his conquests.  

My wife, Dr Becky-Paul Enenche showed me a picture some time ago. It was a picture of a thirteen-year-old-girl in Britain who decided to become a man. She went for a gender reassignment surgery. They cut off her breasts, and reconstructed her reproductive system because she thought that that would give her fulfilment. Now, she is 21 years old with a face that looks like a man and a woman at the same time. She said that she is regretting her actions, and wanted to sue the doctor who carried out the surgery on her because according to her, the doctor should have advised her against the act. That is the kind of upside down world we live in. There is a universal search for peace by many people.

Let everything you do revolve around your relationship with God. Let your business transactions revolve around your relationship with God. Anything that does not have God as the centre, let it go.

SCRIPTURE: Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14.

We started a journey in our previous studies by exploring wisdom for daily living. Yesterday, we saw that it is wisdom for you to give your best to whatever you do, and that you must live wisely and invest your time profitably.

Today, we shall be looking at more wisdom for daily living:

1.  Live with eternity consciousness. 

Don’t forget yourself in this world because you are not of this world; you are passing through this world to your home in heaven. Live with eternity consciousness (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14).

Let everything you do revolve around your relationship with God. Let your business transactions revolve around your relationship with God. Anything that does not have God as the centre, let it go.

Sometime ago, a lady came under pressure to commit immorality with a man in an organization in exchange for a job she was seeking. She was so desperate for a job that she succumbed to this temptation and got the job eventually. But she never realized that it was just the beginning of continuous compromise. After she got the job, she had to keep sleeping with the man, now her boss, in order to keep the job. You see, whatever you compromised to get, you must also compromise to keep. If the foundation be destroyed what can the righteous do? (Psalm 11:3). 

When some people want to compromise, they say things like: “Let us keep God aside. Please forget about church matter first”. This is not right. You only ruin your life if you live like this. What God did not give you, God cannot keep for you. The way you get a thing is how you will keep it. If you get it by spirituality, you will keep it by spirituality; and if you get it by carnality, you will maintain it by carnality. So, don’t forget yourself in this world. Know who you are – a child of the Kingdom passing through this earth. This world is not our home; we are just passing through it. So, robe everything you do with your relationship with God.

2. Appreciate God at the end of the day for a fruitful day. 

If you follow your schedule for the day, appreciate God for a fruitful day; identify particularly, the things which you are appreciating God for. Confirm in the course of your appreciation that the day was not wasted (Psalms 103:1-2). Confirm the profitability of the day by the various things you were able to see from the Scriptures. 

When you do this, you will live maximally.

Don’t waste your time or spend time aimlessly; invest time. Use time wisely; don’t let time use you. 

SCRIPTURE: Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. Ecclesiastes 9:10.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing excellently and maximally. This is because you won’t pass through life twice.

In our previous studies, we have explored some powerful wisdom tips for daily living. And I believe that you are already experiencing tremendous positive change in your life as you read and practice these powerful and proven principles that I call “Wisdom for Daily Living”.  

Today, we shall look at two more of these wisdom tips for daily living:

1.  Give your very best to every task at hand. 

Give all you have got to whatever you do because you will not pass through life twice. Give your very best to every task at hand (Ecclesiastes 9:10). This is wisdom.

Paul the apostle did not hold anything back; he did not withhold anything from people (Acts 20:20). 

Beloved, there is no wisdom in the grave. And the truth is that one is moving closer to one’s grave every single day. It is not a prophecy but a reality. For example, even if you are destined to live for more than one hundred years, every passing day draws you closer to the end.

So, give the task at hand everything you have got. Whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing excellently and maximally. This is because you won’t pass through life twice. Refuse to live casually and carelessly. Give your very best to every task. 

2. Direct your time discreetly.

Don’t waste your time or spend time aimlessly; invest time. Use time wisely; don’t let time use you. 

Ephesians 5:15 says, See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time because the days are evil.

Exchange your time with something useful and profitable.  Don’t let time pass you by without achieving anything meaningful. 

Beloved, what is not your intention does not deserve your attention. There are many things that struggle for your time and attention. Give your time only to that which is your intention, that is, the intention that would guarantee profitable destination. 

Please know that drinking alcohol, watching bad movies and pornography cannot be a good intention for the use of your time. That is squandering your time in a disastrous direction. 

These days, there are all manner of WhatsApp messages flying about. Wisdom demands that you don’t get to read all these messages all the time especially those that are totally irrelevant. My counsel is, schedule a time to read them. First, scan through them to know if there is anyone you can learn lessons from. Otherwise, you end up wasting your time, and other people may be giving you the schedule of what to do with your life and time. 

Remember this: Whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing excellently and maximally; this is because you won’t pass through life twice.

Existence without instruction is existence without transformation; and existence without revelation is existence without revolution. 

SCRIPTURE: The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. Psalm 19:1-2

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Existence without instruction is existence without transformation; and existence without revelation is existence without revolution. 

It has been confirmed that wisdom is essential for daily living. To live well, you must live wisely. To live without regrets in life, you must live wisely. To live productively, you must locate wisdom for daily living.

Now, another wisdom tip for daily living is being on the lookout for specific direction and instruction for the day. 

Our anchor Scripture makes it clear that every day comes with specific instruction(s); every day has something to say. From Psalm 19:1-2, we see that “Day unto day uttereth speech…” This means every day is saying something.  There is the speech of the day and the knowledge of the night (Isaiah 50:4).

Many people keep on missing the instructions for the day; they hear nothing for the day. And existence without instruction is existence without transformation. Existence without revelation is existence without revolution. 

It is revelation that brings elevation (Galatians 2:2).  Each day comes with specific instruction. To access Divine instruction, you open your Bible and read with desperation. Then you ask God, “Lord, what are you saying to me out of these Scriptures?” and He will speak to you from His Word. 

Sometime ago, I saw something from the Scripture that revolutionised my mind and life. I have read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation many times, and particularly that Bible verse several times before, but I did not see what I saw until that day.

Let me share it with you:  The Scripture is Deuteronomy 9:5-6 which says, Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Understand therefore, that the Lord thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiff-necked people.

When I asked God to speak to me from that Scripture, He said, “First, the way I discarded other nations before I gave their lands to you, I can also discard you, and give the same land to other people if found wanting. Second, if I have given you any place in life, it is possible that someone else should have been in that place but missed it because he failed me. Third, you are not there necessarily because you are perfect. So, everything I am doing with you is not about you, it is about me”. Powerful! Very amazing! It means humility is not a choice; it is compulsory. 

When you read your Bible and ask God what He is saying, He will speak to you. You can hear God’s Voice from the Scripture, from someone’s behaviour, and from a scenario or a situation. So, look out for specific instructions and directions for the day. They will give you acceleration in life.
