Good afternoon @ all.Pls I intend going for my PhD in petroleum and gas engineering but my BENG ( first degree) score is low(3.04/5) ,expecting above 4.0/5 in my masters..Pls any recommendation/advice/ information on how to get full funding/ scholarship in any part of d world?
Thanks

Your score isn’t bad. You have a good good chance so long you can ace the GRE. Some schools accept 2.75/4. Although this is very rare, becos most graduate school requires you have 3.0/4.0. All you need to do is to do an extensive search. Although I’ll advise you to be open about related engineering as schools offering pet engr are limited.

To get an emergency appointment,SEVIS fee is required. They made exceptions at Lagos embassy during this period and people were given appointments after filling the emergency form. Those called for interview today were 57.
I think they are still following the normal template at Abuja.
I would advise you switch to Lagos if you want to get an emergency appointment without paying SEVIS fee.
Again, you might be sent a mail that your emergency request has been approved just few days to the scheduled date.
I would advise you get your SEVIS fee paid since you would be paying it anyways.
Some people didn't go for their interviews today because they couldn't pay their SEVIS fee.

57 bawo ?

We were around 30

Cos I noticed 16 people were ahead of me and about 13 were behind me. There was a list of all those invited. It was one and a half A-4 paper full with very bold letterings. We may have exceeded 30 slightly but I’m super sure we weren’t up to 40.

Visa Approved.

My interview was by 8:00m but I got there by 5:29am. I met 6 people there already waiting and I joined them. When it was some minutes to 6am,a woman asked us why came this early and we told her some of us had appointment by 6am,she was so shocked. She said she was expecting 7am as the earliest time for appointments.
So,she took her time before she started attending to us. We were asked to line up and we did security check before we started going inside the building in 5.
The V.O denied the first two ladies. They were married and working. Only one came with her kid. The 6 people that followed were given. Two were going for undergraduate, one PhD and 3 masters. Three have started their courses online.
I was the 9th person that was attended to.
V.O :- Good morning
Me:- Good morning (I passed my passport,I-20 and SEVIS fee confirmation page).
V.O:- Where are you going?
Me:- I am going to Georgia state university for my master's degree in Chemistry.
V.O:- Why this school?
Me:- The university has a strong reputation for research, innovation and diversity, I believe it would be an exciting place to be as I would be offered varieties in (he cuts me)
V.O:- Tell me things I can not find on the school website. You are telling me things you crammed from the school website
Me:-( Looking at him without saying anything because I was so confused)
V.O:- How many schools did you apply to?
Me:- Six
V.O:- Name them
Me:- Marquette university,Texas Tech, Bowling Green, Auburn university,Ohio university and GSU.
V.O:- Did Marquette give you admission?
Me:- No
V.O:- What about Auburn and others?
Me:- Only GSU gave me admission.
V.O:- oooooh I see, Which University did you finish from?
Me:- Federal University of Technology Minna.
V.O:- Who will pay for your deficit ($15,000)
Me:- My brother
V.O:- What does he do?
Me:- He has big store where be sells food stuffs and provisions in wholesale and also.has trucks for transportation business.
V.O:- Okay(types for some minutes). I intend to approve your visa,we are having problems with our reciprocity fee payment, you will have to come back tomorrow to pay it. Thank you
Me:- You are welcome ( I was shocked when he told me thank you,I said you are welcome in reflex).
He didn't ask me for any documents.
Solihp and Iwriteng,I am joining you guys.

Bro I legit remember all this conversation with the VO. Immediately, you told him only one school gave you admission and he said, I see the reason you chose the school. I was right behind you praying for you. Cos your shalaye about why you chose the school was not making sense to him. Remember, you thought he was asking what he can find on the website and then you started with off with the school was founded in....he quickly cut you and said. What he cannot find on the website.

Immediately, I started thinking of what I’d say if was asked that question. I particularly paid attention to people’s interview that when it was my turn someone had to even tap me cos it was more like learning from their conversation.

I saw that the VO was returning everybody’s passport I was first perplexed cos I thought if your visa was approved, he’ll keep the passport.
But I saw that most people were issued the white paper.

Then I heard him say, I intend to approve your visa but you’ll have to bla bla...I was like Ogbeni Intend bawo?

It was all good!

I was particularly impressed with the lady who’d be studying applied mathematics. Her interview was superb in my opinion. Then another lady who was going to study geology and her employer would be sponsoring. (I could even share their own transcript )

My visa was approved too. I’ll share my transcript later

Congrats once again brother!!! The question I have is how does one calculate deficits for a scholarship and TA already guaranteed?

It’s usually on the I-20. But if you haven’t gotten one. Mail the graduate school. In some schools, you have access to view your account upon admission, sometimes it’s stated on your offer. You can mail your school, they’ll give you a breakdown before I-20 is sent.

Hello house,

I have a some question as regards visa appointment, I recently filled the email notification form someone shared for Lagos NIV so as to get notified of new appointment in Lagos Embassy, but when i saw some open spaces for application at abuja embassy i decided to change my venue to Abuja so i could pick the earliest date and request for an emergency appointment.

Now here's my problem, I just got a mail from Lagos Niv that they have schedule an appointment for me for oct 20, but when i checked my portal i can only see my abuja appointment for march 3rd.

I am just very confused right now, should i cancel the abuja appointment and go and repay the application fee or the application fee can still be used for the Lagos Appointment.

Thanks

When did you complete the form for emergency appointment? You can talk to @matluck he got a similar mail and was able to book. I think you prolly need to cancel the Abuja appointment and use the same visa payment. It should still be valid.

Please guys... I have a question that needs urgent answer. I'm going for a 3 years course in nursing for spring 2021. My passport will expire in 2022. I'm about to fill my Ds160 form but I'm confused on what they said about the 6months validity. Please, can someone explain this to me in clear terms. Thank you

What that means is that; it must be valid for atleast 6months from when you’re presenting the passport for visa. Even if it’s 6months from commencement of your start date (which is Jan I suppose), your passport is still very valid. You can always renew over there.

Important information for visa applicants regarding COVID-19:

The U.S. Mission to Nigeria understands that many visa applicants have paid the visa application processing fee and are still waiting to schedule a visa appointment. We are working diligently to restore all routine visa operations as quickly and safely as possible. In the meantime, rest assured that the U.S. Mission will extend the validity of your payment (known as the MRV fee) until December 31, 2021, to allow all applicants who were unable to schedule a visa appointment as a result of the suspension of routine consular operations an opportunity to schedule and or/attend a visa appointment with the already paid fee. Please continue to monitor our website for information on when we will return to routine visa operations.

*For emergency student visa appointments: Due to COVID-19, temporarily, we will accept electronically submitted I-20s from Designated School Officials. Applicants must print out the form electronically submitted to them, and bring this hard copy to the interview*. If granted a visa, the visa holder will need to bring this hard copy with them to the border to present to Customer and Border Patrol.

Hello all, I need your opinion. In my form I-20, my major was written as "Engineering, General" instead of Chemical Engineering. What do you think is advisable for me to write in my form DS160? Engineering or Chemical Engineering

I’m guessing your school is ULL. Did they put Chemical engineering on the I-20?
If the concentration is mentioned on the I-20, you might be safe to put Chemical engineering. You can ask others for their opinion though.

A Nigerian friend who has Germany residency applied about a month ago. He was granted F1 Visa from Germany. He resumed at ULL on 6th August precisely for his PhD.

I really hope they give you the visa, except you're in a EU country (even EU self no sure). Most Nigerians that applied for their F1s outside Nigeria, particularly from mid 2018 till early 2020 before the pandemic, got refused and were advised to go to Nigeria to apply. You can try and see how it goes. However, you can use the pandemic as a strong defense as to why you did not travel to Nigeria to apply for the visa, and especially because embassy in Nigeria is closed and your program is starting soon. I hope it turns out well. I'd love to hear about the interview. Do mention me and update.
Good luck.

Hello,

Pls if you got admitted into University of Louisiana at Lafayette for Fall 2020.

Kindly send a PM.

I got admitted with Funding and my supervisor who is also the graduate coordinator has just mailed to confirm my visa and flight status on or before 3rd August else my assistantship would be transferred to another student as class commences 17th August.

I’m nonplussed at the moment. I have mailed the office of international students of my school and they directed me to the guidelines for new students on their website where I read - I can keep my tuition waiver while outside the US but not my graduate assistantship. This made me relaxed a little until I got the mail from the coordinator this morning. The problem now is the RA I got came with tuition waiver.
I don’t know what to say to the coordinator and I have to respond. I’ve never been more confused.

Okay! Affordable test fixed the outstanding balance issue I had with my GRE account. I can now view my scores and was able to send to additional institutions as I wanted.

My concern now is Trump's travel ban on Nigerian immigrants. I thought the travel ban was a joke until I saw it on headlines.
Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by adelawry(m): 1:17am On Jan 31, 2020
How did you get him to rectify yours? Mine has not been rectified ooo. I'm working towards a deadline. I have to send my score ASAP else my application fee, cost of sending transcript and sending TOEFL score would all be a waste. In my own case, I didn't actually need the last test score I registered with affordable test cos my previous score was better but I can't even use the previous score cos ETS says I have outstanding balance. It's a sad situation and it's been giving me sleepless night.

Same here, Affordable test is now sorting out the issues at hand..Anyway, I knew something went wrong just that he was not patient enough to explain to us..or Perhaps we bombarded him too much with derogatory comments..He is now resolving the issues one after the other. He is on my own about to get it done.. Please, whatever notions or perception we have had about him is wrong..He is genuine and not a scammer..Moral Lesson: Patience is virtue. We all learn everyday. Let’s make sure we came back to acknowledge it when he got our issues resolved. The disdain comments we made about it should be reversed when he resolved our issues. #Shalom
