I overrated my ability recently when I purchased a Cuberevo HD PVR Linux based satellite receiver. I have been unable to configure it to to use my dstv cards in the two card readers that it has. I can use the cards with the cam modules, but that is even buggy.

In summary I will like to use the receiver for FTA and DSTV using the card reader slot. I need some help from anybody with the required experience. Thank you.

My DSTV card is not married because I use it with a STRONG 63xx stb and like I said it sometimes work with the CAM modules in the cuberevo.

HELP WELCOME. THANKS.

What the doctors are doing is called self-preservation. Sadly in this country today, the police is often the accuser and the prosecutor and with their modus operandi of torturing people until they are ready to confess that Anini was their mentor, no one stand the chance. Police harass people on the road asking for all sorts of funny papers, how come none of our hyperactive lawyers have taken them to court. By the time the police arrests you and presents loads of contrived "evidence" your wife will deny you.

The al-jazeerah sports party seems to be over, at least for now angry. That is why I'm scared about this abracadabra thing. It is sometimes cheaper to subscribe than to be putting money on different kinds of free to air, cracked or hacked solutions.

@ENITAn

"@ FXproff, if u hav d resources, i will be in lagos today but will be leaving again by 12pm tomorrow,u can bring me in, am little bit expensive. @ george, y do u kip on stressing on tools, d 1st thing is d brains then later d tools,if u re tracking a bird wit H pol on ur decoder,but ur lnb skew is in the V pol. do u think u will nail d bird?NO!!! dats whn ur expertise come in handy. d more u install dishes d better u bcom. am done with dis right working tools stuff."

If your are tracking an Horizonally polarised bird with an STB set to vertical polarity, you are simply brain dead. It has nothing to do with experience. A man who does not know what you use a chalk for is not an inexperienced teacher, he IS NOT a teacher. A man who wants to teach without a chalk, a chalkboard or a projector on the other hand is a bad teacher, no matter how much experience he has.

To lay this argument to rest, tools, implements, equipments etc does not make a workman, anybody can pose with any equipment. Putting a stethoscope on your neck does not automatically make you a doctor. On the other hand an unequipped workman is worth very little, no matter his experience. A driver without a car can not get to Lagos from Ibadan.

So, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND EQUIPMENTS, all WORK together to make a GREAT WORKMAN. Any workman lacking in any of the three will be ineffective and his works will be mediocre.

I dont think it is lazyness that prevents tox from climbing poles to install dish (ok, I knew that was a joke), it is bigmanism. Everytime I work on my numerous dishes my wife will remind me that "you are a consultant here o, residents and students will be looking at you!" And I always wonder that if I were to sustain an injury on this job, what will my wife say in the hospital?

So, imagine if tox were to break a bone fixing his dish, how will his colleague at LTV take the news; "One of our colleagues by name, had a terrible fall today while installing his satellite dish, though he is neither an installer nor an accredited dstv agent!"
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by adrusa: 9:01pm On Jan 21, 2009
@Toxnaija

Thanks for your long explanation. I'm not an installer and I'm not trying to badmouth adewest. I dont know him and I certainly can have nothing against him. I'm a sat enthusiast like many people here. I started long time ago in the days of analog CNN on arabsat. Being a guy who doesn't mind a dirty hand once in a while, having engaged not less than ten different installers at different times, I have picked the skill and I have come to appreciate that tracking birds is not a very hard task, all that is required is get your parameters right.

My science background might have helped. I get the best on my installations after the installer has done his job and gone home. Being a big man  grin, actually I'm a senior doctor and university lecturer, I allow the installer to do the hard work, I then come out in the night or weekends to refine the work and get the best.

So, when you talk so highly of Adewest and your three days of hardwork to track those birds, I started wondering.

I know there are many installers here, so I will say why I think many of them are not good.

1. Many of them do not know that there is nothing about tracking a satellite that is not laid down. To track a bird you need to know where you are on the earth (your gps co-ordinate), the azimuth and the elevation of the bird at that point (an inclinometer), your true east and west (A compass), the focal lenght of the dish you are using (a measuring tape), a good (perfect parabolic dish), good LNB (0.5db and below) and good cable. With these you will track a trackable bird in minutes. You may then need to "fine tune" your installation to correct for inperfection in your dish, your pole and your lnb holder.

2. Many dont have the right tools. I have only seen one with an inclinometer and about 2 with a compass. None with a gps.

3. Many like some here feels that with experience you dont need these equipments. I tell them, I have been a doctor for about fifteen years, after 6 years of training, I still use my stethoscope and do lab tests. You may know your way in darkness, but it will never be as smooth and as painless as when you are holding a tourch.

4. To cut costs many buy substandard equipments; bad receiver, bad lnb, bad dish.

5. Many put money above integrity. One ran away with the money I gave him for a reciever about 7 years ago. That is when digital recievers cost more than 20k

6. Many thinks that they are too smart to listen to people like us.

OOps, that is a long one, !

With no intention to degrade the "adewest genius" and all that, I'm wondering, what is it that Adewest accomplished for toxnaija that any regular installer can not do?

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by adrusa: 11:09am On Jan 20, 2009
Actually this jossybless is a rubbish kind of person. After posting my request about the Disney Channel, the man contacted me and we met on yahoo messenger. If you see the way he was drilling me about the Aljazeerah sports! I noticed his rubbish nature, but I ignored it. I e-mailed him the details of the aljazeera patch and even sent the patch as an attachment to him. In the process, he even threatened to report me to administrator to ban me, as if I owe him a thing.

When it was his turn about the Disney Channel, he told me that the thing stopped working immediately after it oppened, which I have confirmed is a lie.

Now, he comes here to announce his brain dead success in opening the Jazeerah sports without even acknowledging my help, what a total douch bag!

This is one reason people should be careful about places like this. You may meet excellent people with impeccable personalities, but somewhere around the corner are low lifes like jossybless.

The aljazeera sport +1 to +4 open after patching with the latest software. Apply the patch, 6969 twice and leave it for a minute or two. Meanwhile it will still tell you scrambled, but after some few seconds it opens. Enjoy. Strong 4663X.

I think we in the West Africa are the ones scratching for FTA. For most of the other regions including the east and south and the north Africans have abundant direct FTA satellites no need to search for off-footprints birds.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by adrusa: 9:16am On Dec 23, 2008
Well, free to air or FTA is "free to air"! You are not paying to watch it and you should not need to hack (steal) it to watch it. Once it sees a dvb compliant receiver you can watch it.
If it is scrambled and requires any effort on your part to watch it, it is not FTA. No need to invent a new definition of FTA here.

I recently subscribed to hiTV and I realized that their package is complete rubbish. But for Premier League, there is absolutely nothing else that is worth watching on HiTV (my daughter like the Nickelodeon though). I hope someone will win the Premier League right next time so that HiTV can die the natural death they so richly deserve.

It is simply jibiti and I hope EFCC and ICPC and FIRS will look into their modus operandi one day. BUT LIKE SOMEBODY SAID, SMART PEOPLE DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN SUCH FRAUD. Same thing with all these SMS ringtone thing. The day I read that "unsuccessful requests will be billed" I know these are thieves.
