Probz: Kogi State probably stands out more than any other Nigerian state in its own unique way. I know it borders 9 states (10 including Abuja/F.C. territory), represents the main kind of ethnic groups in the whole of Nigeria (the northern/Hausa-inclined, Yoruba and Igbo + the likes of Idoma) and that the main three tribes are Igala, Okun (a Yoruba subgroup) and Igbira/Ebira. Anyone know if the case of Okun is similar to Ika/Ukwuani/Ikwerre (mere subgroups of an overarching tribe who have dissociated and don’t see themselves as Yoruba or Igbo) and what’s the case of Igala people speaking Yoruba in addition to their Yoruboid language, etc.? Okun people from the Kabba axis are mostly Yorubas but there are some of them that prefer to call themselves Okun rather than Yoruba, not because they don't like the Yoruba tag. They're more similar to what Aniocha/Oshimili is to Igbos than Ika/Ukwuani/Ikwerre. So, invariably they're proudly Yorubas. |

If you noticed most guys that engage in this show of shame, they think the person who accepted their friend request is better than them in everywhere, so it's usually a delight for a beautiful lady on facebook to acceppt their ugly azzes considering how rude most Nigerian girls on social media are these days. kai |

B2mario: Unmask Chino, the guy is from Edo. He's causing more harm to Igbo unity than every other person You see what i'm saying. You can't have a tribe and not have people like Chino or Abagworo. they must always exist. There's no proof whatsoever to know whether or not these people are Igbo but we have to accept who they say they are but we definitely cannot put a sensitive thing in their hands lest they destroy us. |

pazienza: But you are in support of cyber impersonation?
You mean it's Ok for an Edo man like Cire80/Favor to be roaming around NL with his Igbophobia and bad for genuine Igbo sons to point him out as an impostor he is, expose and disgrace him?
Afam. I know you are always wanting to sound neutral and understanding, but sometimes, extreme measures are needed for extreme offenses.
An Edo man masquerading as an Anioma man to cause division between SE and Anioma is a dredge and deserve to be treated as such.
So, I'd advise you stay out of this. I'm not in support of cyber impersonation but there's really little or nothing we can do about especially if we have no concrete proof. It's not ok to assume someone's personality based on a hunch. This has been a favourite past time of Nairalanders. Once you make a statement that they think does not reflect those of the people you claim to be a part of, they start calling you an impostor. I have been called a Yoruba man on this forum just because i made a statement that some thought was not a reflection of those that should come from an Igbo person. If we can for a matter of fact confirm that cire is an impostor, then i'll be in support of unmasking him but until then we'll just be at the mercy of accusing someone wrongly. |
Sports › Re: Barca Vs PSG ; Was The Match Fixed? by Afam4eva(m): 9:56am On Mar 09, 2017 |
I didn't watch the match but from what i saw in the highlights, there was nothing like match fixing. All the goals from Barca were deserved and that includes the second penalty. The highlights are there for everyone to see and the referee did not kill the match like some people have been saying. This is one of the greatest comebacks in footbal history. It just shows how good Barca is. They have defied the odds. |

AreaFada2: They are doing National Character thing. Warri Benin
.............and other SS cities follow. Lagos is the place many 15 years old kids cannot speak pidgin. Seen many.
Even the fluent pidgin speakers of Lagos are mostly from SS/SE/NC. With exposure to these people some Yoruba Lagosians improve their pidgin. good Lots of teenagers from Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo who come to Lagos cannot speak good pidgin initially. Some never really master it. They understand it well.
SE people alsi improve their pidgin outside SE. Because they travel widely, they usually master it quickly.
Pidgin should be an official language.
Europeans/Americans should come and be learning Pidgin from us. . Nice analysis. |

janellemonae: Trust me d millions dt can't speak or hear some Yoruba are way less dn d millions dt can. No need to continue dis argument though. Do you mean Yorubas or non Yorubas or both? If you're saying that there are more Non Yorubas who understand Yoruba than those who don't then you're very wrong. Infact Non Yorubas who understand and speak Yoruba are in the minority. Majority cannot speak the language. No need to continue this argument |

Abagworo: I learnt primary Yoruba in Lagos. You can hardly learn Urhobo or Itsekiri in Warri. I can't remember where i argued this fact. My point is that not everyone who comes to Lagos learns Yoruba. There are milliions of Igbo people in Lagos that neither understand or can speak Yoruba. The best they can mutter is owa, ekaro, kilonshele and other basic words. |

Go to the car park, waht language do the touts speak? come to warri or sapele waht language do the touts speak? bear i n mind there are more people in Lagos than warri, more so we are not talking about howmany people speak waht but the originality and its roots. Some of you are just unbelievable. When we say lagos, we're talking of all people who live in Lagos and not indegenes. It's also weird that you chose car park and touts to pass your message. I could also ask you to go to Alaba, Computer village and idumota and claim that Igbo is more prevalent than pidgin English in Lagos just because they speak it heavily in certain places. |
Travel › Re: 10 Cities In Nigeria Where Pidgin English Is Most Spoken by Afam4eva(m): 10:44pm On Mar 07, 2017 |
janellemonae: It's not abt competition, it's about prevalence. When u move somewhere u tend to pick up on d prevalent language spoken there. I know someone dt moved to warri & after a while started speaking pidgin (sthn he never spoke before) because it was widely spoken around him & was prevalent wt everyone. Same thing happens wt pple dt move to Lagos, they pick up Yoruba because it's prevalent. I've never seen anyone move to Lagos & picked up speaking pidgin. Yes, it's possible to move to lagos and pick up Yoruba but there are millions of people in this same Lagos that cannot speak Yoruba to save their lives. No one comes to Lagos to learn pidgin English because they probably already know how to speak it to some extent wherever they're coming from. We're basically saying the same thing. Pidgin English is not the major attraction in Lagos but it is very prevalent just like English and Yoruba. |
Travel › Re: 10 Cities In Nigeria Where Pidgin English Is Most Spoken by Afam4eva(m): 10:35pm On Mar 07, 2017 |
janellemonae: I'm not saying pidgin doesn't exist. I'm saying it's not prevalent. It's not like warri or ph or Benin where u use it for transportation, in markets, and where young & old speak it as their go to language when talking to someone else. It isn't. There are more pidgin English speakers in Lagos than Warri, Benin and Port-hacourt put together. The only difference is that pidgin is not the only language of choice. There are millions who speak only English and those that speak only Yoruba, Yoruba and pidgin or English ad Yoruba. There also those who speak Igbo, Igbo and pidgin or Igbo and pidgin. let's not forget those that speak hausa and other languages. The competition is just fiercer for languages than in places like Port-hacourt, Warri and co. |

Biggcake: Not true about Uyo.... The fact is that the three major tribes in Akwa Ibom have languages that are interwoven..Therefore, what an Ibibio man speaks an Annang man and Oron/Eket man will understand. The circle goes on and on.
With this fact, it is obvious that the people of Uyo do not find it difficult to communicate amongst themselves, hence the reason why pidgin english is not widely spoken. If you call them tribes, i won't argue with you. But they seem like dialects of the same language to me so Uyo cannot be termed cosmopolitan. |

Pidgin is not prevalent in Lagos. Pple speak Yoruba or proper English. Just go to any market or hotspot or take a cab & test d theory. This is not accurate. Granted that there are Non Yorubas who speak Yoruba in Lagos, there are also millions of others who no nothing other than Owa, Bawoni, Ekaro, odabo etc. Most people who speak Yoruba in Lagos are Yoruba people. |

I asked him why he didn't reply me in urhobo, he said he can't, he understands little Pidgin English is spoken in the south more than anywhere and it is more true in cities that are surrounded by people from different ethnicities. You noticed that Uyo did not make the list despite being in the south-south and i thik it's because it's not as cosmopolitan in nature like Warri, PH, Benin and co. Lagos is really an exception because it's the melting point for Nigerian from all over. |
