cleverley and blackett to play 90mins in today's match according to Van Gaal. I think this means they are auditioning for a place in the squad especially Blackett who played quite well as LCB in the 3 man defence in the 2nd half of our last match.

Knowing Van Gaal he might be tempted to promote Blackett and Michael Keane to permanent senior squad duties if they impress on this tour. However i believe we need to buy at least one quality centre back to play in the middle of either a 3 man defence or as a partner for Evans in a 4 man defence.

Watched the match again, what Herrera did was what we have been hoping for Cleverley i.e forward play when the opportunity is there. Unfortunately Clev regressed over the last couple of seasons (hopefully LVG can reverse the regression)

Macheda was always on fire in the pre-season but never did anything tangible for United. Just a case to say that it's not what you see in the pre-season that will manifest from August -May. But we thought the dude had potential after he saved us vs Villa and Sunderland in 2009.

Wether herrera gels or not however depending on carrick to lead the midfield is a recipe for failure. Both he and cleverley should move to the bench

Carrick should be at best a squad player along with Cleverley.
Fellaini should be sold to okomu oil or burnley and Anderson should be locked up in his favourite restaurant kitchen(sure he would love that).

Its just a friendly/exhibition mark na not much should be read into it apart from the fact that the players have been training with different formations and that the level of cohesion is higher than at same time last season.

having said that i have felt for the last 2 seasons that carrick was done and he has done nothing to change my mind.not doubting his intelligence but his snail speed is one of the reasons we find it hard to win back balls in midfield. In this era of great passing teams its not enough to wait for interceptions alone , other times u have to go win the ball and this is where carrick fails.

every time the ball got to our defensive midfield last season we looked like conceeding. I will never forget the way he escorted Amalfitano from midfield to 18yard box at Old Trafford

3412 is not a naturally easy formation to learn ESPECIALLY for wingbacks.

premier league counts those as assists. nani's cross that got rooney the glorious overhead kick against city had a slight deflection but nani still got the assist. the way premier league counts their assists is different from how opta does theirs.....we have argued this times without number.

so if opta gave young the assist against west ham, should we then nullify the assist when he was brought down in the box to win a penalty against palace? lemme guess - assists don't count when young wins a penalty but it counts when others do, right?

try & be man enough to admit you have goofed instead of hugging desperately on assist stats of opta.

from the little i saw of him at the world cup, adnan needs to be loaned to QPR. rio will guide him there & hopefully harry will play him often to get the needed premier league experience. for now, he's not ready to start in the first team.

He has only had a handful of games in the hole so I think we cannot outrightly write him off.
I still think Adnan needs time to develop and become a real weapon. He has the talent but at this stage it's still too much to expect him to shoulder any kind of responsibility.
But his integration was one of the few plusses of the Moyes era.
