Can you give an example of a bank where depositors lost their money and bond holders were secured? Depositors have priority over bond holders. If a bank fails, depositors get paid before bond holders.

The point I am making is that an MFB that bond holders are secure cannot lose its depositors funds. There is no way the bond holders interests in a bank are more protected than depositors’ interests.

If LAPO’s bond holders are secure, then it means its depositors are also secure.

Very true. For the fact we are having this conversation is due to lack of clear regulation. CBN has not issued clear regulation on fintechs which is why they are acquiring MFBs to operate with their license. Regulators need to step up

The fintechs offer a service to their users, these users do not own shares so are not typically investors in the said company.

The one fintech I use gave a breakdown of all monies processed in 2020 to its users.

They are using people's money to invest and paying interest. They need to be releasing financial statements and reports. How else would people know what they are doing with their money?

Why won't it appear as common sense after it has happened. Something that some so called investors were even predicting a second crash around March. Even my own favourite YouTuber was preaching sell sell. I know of 2 popular Twitter guys that deactivated their accounts because none of what they predicted happened.

You are right that it appears as common sense when you reflect back. Thats the stock market for you. Like nature it is a respecter of no person. Yet like nature it is giverened by laws which influence prices. E.g when you have a rising dollar,(or bitcoin in more recent times) you have a declining gold price, or when oil invetories rise, oil price falls.

The stock market has always been disjointed from the economy because investors are moving capital from the present to the future. So they price in the future implications first. Thats the reason you didnt see a market sell off when they were rioting in the capitol.

Though its not easy as you say, because human emotions drive actions rather than logic. but if you look carefully there are patterns you can notice. For example the NSE performs badly in election years (i stand to be corrected).

I however have my reservations on the ones that claim they can invest your money for you and guarantee out of the world returns.

I think this issue has been brought up b4 and if i remember correctly u quoted them saying they invested in 30yr treasury bill and you asked a very valid question: why didnt AIICO who manages their (piggyvest) funds start their own investment platform directly instead of manging for a third party (something like that).

The koko for me is (a) SEC regulation (b) public finanvial records (c) historical performance (d) cjaracter of managment.

But is it possible that they would be offering high interest rate in a low interest environment without SEC wanting to inquire about their operations?

I belive that people investing don carry out their DD sha. One thing about investing is knowing your risk appetite and investing in what you know.

The US stock market has historically been ahead of the economy at least by 6 months. Speculators/investors price in future occurrence.
That's why the market was doing well when there was massive unemployment.

The same reason you are currently seeing sell off in the market (despite the stimulus) because the economy is improving, interest rates are rising on strong dollar. It is better for institutional investors to loan money at a guaranteed rate than invest in risky asset like equities.

It is all common sense, connect the dots haba.
