The government only stopped Smugglers from bringing in Rice through the boarders. The ignorance is mind blowing. Tinubu was not relegated. He was just not given the control he envisaged. The presidency is too powerful to be controlled. |

Nigeria and confusion. They already sited a gas-fired power plant in the North before realising the constraint of getting gas for the plant. They are now switching to a more expensive diesel.
This Senate is using oversight function as a smokescreen to be carrying out the functions of the Executive.
Although they are right in their submission that it is cheaper and more environmentally friendly to use gas. But that should not mean they should be ordering the ministry officials around. They will just create unnecessary confusion in the chain of authority.
The civil servants are doing a lot of shoddy jobs and in the process selling themselves cheap to the senate who is just using them to shine anyhow. |

We as a people are very hard and wicked to one another.
All these people working in govt agencies are not ghosts/foreigners, but normal Nigerians.
But they will purposely frustrate all processes just to make sure people have no option but to come to them and pay extra.
They abound in the Police, EFCC, FRSC, FIRS, NIMASA, FedMinEnv, Immigration, Customs, Ports, VIO, Population Commission, CAC, DPR, Airport Health, Vehicle Licensing Offices and even the Courts of Law across the country.
You can't get govt services with ease at the official amount. They must definitely frustrate you!
This happens in virtually all Fed and State govt agencies that has one service or the other to render to the public.
Infact, it is a National disaster and shame.
And the people working in these places will also in sheer hypocrisy be complaining about corruption.
I think we just need to outsource govt services to the private sector and maintain a very lean civil service.
Because most of them are actually very useless and delight in frustrating and extorting people. |

Immigration probes alleged extortion at Nigerian High CommissionNigeria Immigration Service (NIS) says it has begun investigation into alleged extortion of international passport applicants at Nigerian High Commission in the UK. Spokesman of the NIS, Mr Sunday James, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. James, who said the agency’s attention had been drawn to a viral video of some Nigerians protesting against the alleged extortion at the High Commission, added that “the protesters alleged that some officials of the High Commission are unduly surcharging them for passport issuance. “It has become necessary to state that payment for passports are done online and so nobody is expected to come to the High Commission with cash, let alone any case of extortion. “In the meantime, machineries have been put in place to unravel the veracity of the allegation.” He advised Nigerian passport applicants in the UK and other parts of the world to formally report any form of extortion through: immigrationspro@gmail.com, nis.servicom@nigeriaimmigration.gov.ngcall +2347080607900. The NIS spokesman cautioned against the use of abusive language by protesters which he said was capable of tarnishing the image of the country. He added that “it is important to follow due process of presenting grievances concerning wrong doings or poor service delivery. “The Comptroller General of Immigration wishes to use this medium to appeal to Nigerians to always endeavour to report any known case of poor service delivery for appropriate investigation and possible sanctions.” Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/11/immigration-probes-alleged-extortion-nigerian-high-commission/ |

bishopkay: In as much as I may not like the man Atiku, if the choice ever comes between voting him or buhari, or kwakwanso (since both major parties are bent on conceding the position to the north), I'd kindly and eagerly vote Atiku twice if possible.
Nigerians should read inbetween the lines...The option to vote for a man who added no single value to his life neither his environment since his last unfortunate spate as head of state where he got ousted for gross incompetence and high handedness, or the choice to vote for a man who has and still successfully runs his business empire or a known ethnic bigot.
Hate the man or love him, if Atiku contests against buhari for 2019, he'd win him.
Also south westerners should stop this nonsense of seeing Tinubu as their god! Tinubu is a man like you and had he followed Obasanjo sheepishly like most of y'all are doing him today, he'd still be an under dog in Nigerian politics. Follow your heart cos at the end, it's all man for himself! We have 6 geopolitical zones in Nigeria. Atiku can only defeat Buhari in the SS and SE. Buhari will win him in the remaining 4 zones of SW,NC,NE and NW. Buhari will win him with seriously wide margins in the heavily populated and politically active NW and NE. Take this anywhere, Buhari will win Atiku in the SW with a margin similar to his victory over GEJ, approx 55% vs 45%. Infact, Atiku will struggle to get that 45%. This is where PDP will seriously feel the impact of the loss of Ondo state to APC. If they don't play their games properly and call Fayose to order on his planned imposition in Ekiti they will also lose Ekiti to APC. And that will render them a perpetual underdog in SW politics until APC mess up to to extreme. |

Business › Re: Nigeria Sells $3 Billion Eurobonds - Largest Ever. by agabusta: 5:34pm On Nov 21, 2017 |
jossey94: While I understand where you are coming from, I would like to propose a scenario.
You need #1 million to start a business, so you go to your trusted bank and borrow the money at an interest rate of 22% per annum for five years. This means that in addition to paying back the #1 million principal, you also end up paying #1.1 million in interest (#220,000 annual interest * 5years). In all, you are going to pay #2.1 million on a #1 million loan.
Eish. That's steep. Of course you don't wanna take that deal, but what can you do? You have to start the business. You have kids that are depending on you to earn an income from the business.
So, you take the loan at that ridiculously high rate.
Now stay with me.
A few weeks later, you run into an old friend who tells you he's now a credit officer in another trusted bank.
You tell him about the loan and he's appalled. He says, "Oh, why not come to my bank? We'll give you the loan at 7%".
7%. Wow! That's a game changer. Instead of having to pay #220,000 in interest every year, you would be paying #70,000 instead. Over the five year period, you would have saved yourself #750,000. That's too good for anybody to pass up.
Now what can you do? You have taken the first loan already and will not be able to cancel the contract without suffering a penalty and a damage to your creditworthiness (this is important for any business or nation).
So, you decide to take the new loan of #1 million at 7% pa and pay off the #1 million at 22% pa. Effectively, you have borrowed the money, but instead of paying #2.1 million over the life of the loan, you would end repaying #1.35 million.
That's a good deal, wouldn't you agree?
Now the FG was in this same situation, paying 22% annually (Avg effective yield of the 364DTM Tbill), when they could be paying 7% instead (Average FGN Eurobond yield). Therefore, they decided to refinance the debt to make it cheaper for them.
Consider the effects. The money they were spending on interest could have been used to pay salaries and build roads. The re-financing would make that possible. Also, banks were not lending money to Small businesses that needed the money because they were investing in the bills (Come on, 22%! Free money man! Who can pass that up). When small businesses can not access financing, this hampers growth in the economy. Now, with reduced T-bills supply, banks would have to increase lending to the general public in order to earn interest.
Hope this helps. You have really done a good job with this explanation. Kudos! |

PapaBrowne: The thinking is just on point. The FG is the clog in the wheel of Nigeria's progress. Bypass them and you would see success. Ambode is thinking of Lagos seperately from Nigeria and thats why you are seeing the kind of progress. If Lagos has 24 hrs power, hmmm! The kind of GDP increase the state would experience ehn!!
The funniest part about this is that Ambode is actually doing his job as Lagos state governor wonderfully. But he isn't stopping there. He is actually taking on Fashola's ministerial job and doing it ten times better and proving Fashola to be a terrible failure!! You are just being emotional and sentimental, maybe because you don't like Fashola. There is no way you can separate the successes of Ambode from that of Fashola. Infact if Fashola's performance has been terrible, Ambode would not have won. His victory was hinged on Fashola's performance. If Fashola has messed up during his stint, Ambode would also be seriously struggling and focusing on unimportant things. Fashola continued the good foundation set by Tinubu. And Ambode is picking up from there. Ambode is doing well with novel ideas and projects, but he is seriously lagging behind in the daily maintenance of Lagos. His Administration does not attend so fast to repairing bad portions of road like the Administration of Fashola. Same thing with waste disposal. Waste is now piling up in Lagos, something that never occurred during Fashola. Lastma also has sort of lost its teeth. They are not as effective as before and has grown too friendly of Danfo drivers and putting up with their irritating driving habits. All the same he is also on point, but to say he is miles ahead of Fashola is an exaggeration. |

Buhari Congratulates Jonathan At 60
President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated former President Goodluck Jonathan on his 60th birthday. Buhari in a statement by his special adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina on Sunday, November 19 celebrated the history of Jonathan who rose from being a deputy governor to becoming Nigeria’s president for six years. ‘’President Buhari joins members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), professional colleagues, associates of Dr Jonathan, and his family in celebrating the unique history of the Nigerian leader, who within a short period rose from being a Deputy Governor, Governor, Vice President to becoming Nigeria’s President for six years,’’ the statement read in part. Buhari said Jonathan’s foray into politics and ascendency to the highest political office in Nigeria from a humble riverine background testifies to the greatness and inclusiveness of Nigeria’s democracy, and serves as an invitation to all those with interest to add value to the nation. He therefore prayed that the God will bless Jonathan with good health, wisdom and strength to continue serving the country. https://www.channelstv.com/2017/11/19/buhari-congratulates-jonathan-at-60/ |

as for 25 % dream on 2019 is by the corner instead of you to mourn the defeat of your PDP in this election, you are doing attache to the victory of APGA. Every reasonable person conversant with Nigeria politics knows it's virtually impossible for APC to win Anambra. What APC needs in some of these areas of low popularity, is just a minimal support that can stem the tide against rigging in favour of a more popular candidate in the general election. APC is even having good returns than I imagined in this election. And PDP has been ridiculously disappointing. I'm surprised PDP is not even a force to contend with in this election. It is laughable. |

Evidenx: go and watch the film blind spot, then you will know CIA has more power and authority than FBI.. CIA has more power and authority than the FBI? More power and authority is relative and subjective and sound somehow lame. It depends on the case/operation in question. And even at that, the FBI seemed more empowered legally. The CIA does not even have the power to prosecute anybody. Get yourself more informed with the excerpts below: CRIMINAL LAW Roles of the CIA and FBI
https://www.lawyers.com/legal-info/criminal/criminal-law-basics/federal-protectors-roles-of-the-cia-and-the-fbi.html
The missions of both the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are to protect national security, but their roles are different. The CIA collects and analyzes foreign intelligence to assist the President (and other top government officials) make informed decisions on national security. The FBI, on the other hand, is the nation’s top federal law enforcement agency. Among other duties, the FBI investigates and seeks to prevent acts of domestic and international terrorism. The FBI has both intelligence and investigative duties.
What Does the CIA Do?
The CIA is an independent agency that collects, analyzes, and disseminates foreign intelligence information to top U.S. government officials. The CIA does not make policy decisions or recommendations.
Instead, its role is to report intelligence information that is objective and free from political bias. The President and other agencies (such as the State Department and Department of Defense) assess this information to make policy decisions on national security
What the CIA Doesn’t Do?
Federal law prohibits the CIA from collecting information on “U.S. Persons,” which includes U.S. citizens, resident aliens, legal immigrants, and U.S. corporations. The CIA collects intelligence information only on foreign countries and their citizens. And, unlike the FBI, the CIA does not have arrest powers. But the two agencies cooperate on many issues, such as counterintelligence and threats to national security.
What Does the FBI Do?
The FBI is the nation’s lead federal law enforcement agency. It has broad authority to investigate:
acts of terrorism (domestic and international) attacks involving weapons of mass destruction attacks on U.S. officials, and other terrorism-related offenses. Additionally, the FBI has divisions devoted to combatting other federal law violations, including cyber-crime, public corruption, civil rights violations, organized crime, white-collar crime, and gang and drug crimes. The arrest powers of FBI agents are broad—extending to violations of federal law committed anywhere in the U.S. or its territories. (The FBI turns over evidence of federal crimes to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.)
In an effort to combat crime nationwide, the FBI coordinates with local, state, and other federal law enforcement agencies in investigations and joint task forces. The FBI also assists these agencies with cooperative services, such as fingerprint identification, laboratory services, and training.
