HealthRe: Ibom Specialist Hospital, Uyo Shut Down by agabusta: 2:35am On Oct 06, 2017
MadCow1:
You are very wrong..

Education is always the answer.. Educate and build capacity. If they did, they would not have needed foreign Doctors and Nurses to efficiently run the hospital.

Secondly, we need these super structures.. World Class hospitals are mostly situated in such structured because they normally house many divisions and branches of medicine.. The problem was not in the structure. Like someone said, it's in the planning and execution.

First challenge a hospital of that magnitude will definitely face is power.. Powering that hospital solely from generators would have been unsustainable and impractical. This is the type of project you put on a dedicated power grid from like a Gas turbine.

Secondly was the cost of maintenance. Fixing Machines, keeping the building up to code, laundry bill, etc. .

Third was the cost of salaries.. Especially if they were using expatriate doctors.

Then if the hospital was open to Akwa Ibom people (civil servants) on like a Government health insurance scheme, was that structure negotiated and understood?

Many atimes with these grand projects like Tinapa, Uyo stadium, National Theater, this Mega Hospital, Murtala Muhammad Airport, the Cinema in Uyo, e.t.c.. The easiest part of these types of Projects are always the construction.. The hardest part is the management (not just structural) of the project..

Just wait, Le Meridian in Uyo will soon collapse as well. Just like everything in Calabar collapsed after Donald duke left office.
This beautiful apt piece cannot come from a mad animal. Pls consider another username. cheesy

We like putting the cart before the horse in Naija. How can they even imagine putting that hospital solely on generators is sustainable? Somebody somewhere obviously did not do a proper calculation, or someone ignored the outcome.

Even profit oriented organisations like bank and telcos and other successful private hospitals in Lagos still make use of on-grid electricity.

If they totally wants to stay off grid in order to ensure 24 hrs power, they should have considered a mini thermal station along side the construction of the hospital as you said.

Just like Lagos is currently powering LASUTH, the power station can be designed to provide power to other govt establishments in addition to the hospital in order to properly utilise the power and also save generator running cost in some other govt establishments.

White Elephant project someone had said...... Tropicana, Ibom international stadium, pedestrians bridges.... isn't bringing money to dat state or its occupants..... As it should because those projects were done (putting the cart before the horse)
With all the money available to Akwa-Ibom during Akpabio, I just wonder why they never contemplated building a modular refinery in partnership with a private company.

That would have industrialised the state to some extent and draw some other industries in. Fertiliser would also be produced as a by product to support Agriculture.

It's success can even serve as a template for building more of such and providing the fuel that region needs.

A major problem the states and the FG has now is an overbloated and unproductive civil service.

When more funds accrue to a state govt, they just go on an employment spree. Trying to make a point that their govt created employment. Ironically, they are supposed to spend the funds to stimulate the private sector to carry out the employment and in return provide tax income to the State.

But what do we have, in times of plenty, the states recruit massively, and when resources go down, the state suffers. The civil service, which is highly unproductive just consumes a large chunk of the resources leaving meagre for capital projects.

Be educated and informed. Total grid failure is not a permanent scenario.

It may happen for just 5 mins after which everything may be restored back to normal.

The collapse you were talking about was caused by a trip attributed to 2 generating units at Egbin.

After careful analysis on pdp zoning of the presidency to the North which is ok, the winning combination for me should be Bukola Saraki as presidential candidate and deputy to be Ekweremadu .Election result would be like this middlebelt- saraki ,southeast- saraki South south - Saraki ,SouthWest- Saraki ,result pdp wins evryone happy...buhari retires to daura..what do you guys think?
They can only win if Buhari does not contest or campaign wholeheartedly for APC's choice.

If Buhari contests, they will lose. The result will be similar to that of 2015.

If Buhari decides to prop up Osinbajo instead and the running mate is either Tambuwal/El-Rufai, and Buhari campaigns for them in every nook and cranny of the North, the North will be on lockdown for such a ticket.

Tinubu political weight and the the Redeemed church (funny but factual) will lock down the SW for Osinbajo.
They will also record better performance in the SS and SE than Buhari 2015 results. Such a ticket will defeat Saraki/Ekweremadu.

The only way Saraki/Ekweremadu ticket can win is if Buhari does not contest and APC fielded a wrong permutation.

He lost because for lot of reasons some his fault most a grand conspiracy
He lost because he took people for granted until it was too late. It started gradually, wise people were telling him, but he saw himself infallible and invisible.

He thought he could buy his way through the election and in the process surrounded himself with court jesters like FFK and Fayose that even did more harm to his bid.

We told you lots that with the situation on ground, he was going to lose the election, but his die-hard supporters just like he himself always revel in self-deceit.

After their defeat, instead to come into reality, that the man lost squarely, they are still looking for grand conspiracy here and there.

There is no grand conspiracy anywhere! He didnt lose the SW at once, it started gradually from 2011 till the election time.

His attempt at appealing to religious and ethnic sentiments to the areas he already has in the sac was highly misguided. He already has the SS and SE in the saddle, what's the wisdom in appealing to their ethnic/religious sentiments.

What that did was to draw voters from him in the core North and Middle regions.

more like a game of chess, and now the world power are draining our best brains, our human capital, but our own leaders are frustrating experts here instead of attracting them here, I just hope they will come back to contribute to the development of this country, I also hope Nigeria will revive Ajaokuta steel, but our leaders are too dumb, out of 130 trucks of rice sent to IDP camps, 80 trucks was diverted , re-bagged sold, and when someone raised alarm he was arrested , what a nation?? , imagine walking on the street of saudi and you hearing parked cars engine running? but here in Nigeria drivers off engine in attempt to save fuel.

if we can revive our steel industry, we will have steel materials to practice on our way to development
Different govts has continuously messed up the Ajaokuta issue, and the present govt even seems confused on the way foward. They tried to negotiate themselves from the intricate and nonviable concession that was earlier done. And even in the process, they lost the iron ore mining company that provides raw materials to the plant.

The company that could not properly manage the Ajaokuta plant now has under its control, the mining company. What if they flop as they earlier did, how will the plant be able to get raw materials??

Now the plant itself, after 2 years they have not come out to categorically tell us what they intend for the plant.

Too much vested interest in this country, that is why we are not moving forward. Too much nepotism and greed.

Its just tiring
PoliticsRe: ANALYSIS: Digitalising Nigeria’s Oil Operations For Maximum Efficiency by agabusta: 1:53pm On Sep 25, 2017
This seems laudable but will the Nigerian factor ever allow it to sail through? I trust civil servants in the petroleum industry, if there is nothing in the sack for them, they will not allow it to sail through.

Whereas, this is supposed to be their work, they are supposed to be the think tank of the govt, proposing ideas on now the country can maximise its gains and reduce wastage.

See front page thread still on page 0 hours after hitting front page; basically because it is not a tribal/religious/political issue. lol

rexbuton:
definitely... but there are fundamental differences between both doctrines. those differences make it impossible for both doctrines to be correct at the same time. And what doesn't help Islam is the fact that it also cites the Jewish Torah, though indirectly and the doctrines are not harmonious. Christianity on the other hand is relatable to the Jewish Torah. and Christ gives reasons for the amendments he makes in the gospels. and if you look at it closely, Jesus Christ never broke any Old Testament law.
Funny enough, at the beginning of the Quran it was stated therein that the Torah and the Gospel should be revered and not discarded.

On the very contrary Jesus never said anything about Christianity and never even mentioned the word. You people say God gave birth to Jesus, pls explain how... Increase your knowledge read the bible and the Quran. The Qur'an spoke about Mary even more than the old testamin. Good day.
Haba, try and be truthful. The quranic account of Mary is hazy and short and at best seems more like it was heresay. I have read it. Try and read the new testament for this. Why do you want Mary's account to be in old testament when she is of a different generation?

Your comment may be borne out of ignorance anyways, maybe you are not knowledgeable on how the bible is structured.

Jesus never said anything about Christianity, it was a term used to describe followers of Jesus Christ that behaved in a manner similar to his.

Your Quran also acknowledged that the birth of Jesus was divinity. That Mary never met with any man, yet was with child. Or is your Quranic account also incorrect? Did the Quran tell us who the biological father of Jesus was?

Good! When ASUU declared strike, the first and 2nd page were filled with curses and abuses towards Buhari, eventhough the problem was an inherited one.

When ASUU called off strike, there was no word of commendation.

Same with Saanu, Nasu and the unserious United NLC. There was harsh criticism, abuses and curses to Buhari and his team when they all declared strikes. Some even went further to declare that Nigeria is totally finished under Buhari. cheesy Infact, the wailings were too synchronised. It

Now that they have all called off strike, one will only find few commendation to the govt of the day for their deft negotiation in resolving the industrial issues.
