chuckdee4:
How come it got 12 nominations if it is yet to be released, don't sales and public acceptance pay any part in selecting nominees?
Your location says Essex, that means you are in UK. You better think the Nigerian way of doing things to understand. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Please COMPAQ answer this question.

Did we have improved Telephone, internet, etc because Nitel was privatized? huh huh huh

COMPAQ:
No doubt the masses will cheer this news, but this is just probably one of those populist announcements that governors like to make. While reducing fees is not a bad thing, but where will the money to run the university come from?? Contrary to popular belief in Nigeria, university tuition is not free in the UK or US. UK university tuition for British citizens is anywhere between £3000-£5000 per session. Yet we make noise here over increases from N25,000 to N50,000. No doubt, scenarios are different, but we need to put our money where our mouth is. If we want a very good education, we have to understand that it won't come cheap. We Nigerians talk with both sides of our mouth:

We want 24hr electricity, but we don't want to pay for it.
We want a deregulated downstream petroleum sector, but we want the prices to remain at N65.
We want jobs to be created in this country, but we want govt to hold on to every sector because they are strategic to "national security"
We want corruption to reduce, but many of us who work in corrupt ministries, agencies and parastatals have never thought to copy these documents that clearly show illegal transfer and send them to efcc anonymously.
We all want to go to heaven, but no one wants to die.
We cry out about flooding and filth, yet we citizens throw gala wrapper and rubbish unto the roads without thought.

We are really a largely illiterate and hypocritical society.
Nobody said university tuition is free in US or UK.

While comparing Nigeria to the US and UK, you failed to mention unemployment benefits(non-existent in Nigeria), loans for students(non-existent in Nigeria), scholarships (now a measurement of intelligence, so even the rich vie for it).

On the aspect of petroleum products example petrol prices, you are comparing apples and oranges.
Study this scenario, then use all possible logic to convince everybody against it.

A community in Delta State produces cassava, and garri is sold @ N300.00/5kg bag,
same 5kg bag is sold in Lagos @ N700.

Why is the garri not sold at N700 in the community where it is produced?

too many people claiming intelligence and labeling all others with different opinions as m/o/r/o/n/s. How can Nigeria progress with such super intelligent people.

Thank you jare.

Dont mind all these m/o/r/o/n/s living in America aka cyber-Nigerians. Some of them dont even know who Tai Solarin is or where the school is located. They just open their mouth and proffer American Solutions ( for uniquely American Problems) to Naija problems as if the two countries were joined at the hip politically and economically.
Most Wise and Intelligent master, you want private investors to come and invest in Nigeria abi? huh huh huh

Ishikawa:
Well, haven graduated from Mayflower and presently having a sibling there, I am actually very happy that the ACN government is taking back the school that the Gbenga Daniel administration handed back to the Solarins about two years ago.
When the school was returned to the owners, the school fees was increased by about 600% and therefore could only be afforded by the rich. In fact I know some people personally that had to withdraw their children because of the school fees.
Mayflower became a great school even as a government school. When the miltary forcefully took the school from Tai Solarin, things in Nigeria were not as bad as it is now and Government colleges were the best schools.
Government taking over the school was good then and the school has actually been a Government school for many years and "Government didn't spoil the school".
Insisting that the school should be private seems like insisting that UNILAG, UNIBEN, LASU, OAU should all be private.

P.S: Tai Solarin will not have objected in order to educate all, both rich and poor.
Who or what is stopping the government from building a world class school to compete with the private schools. It is cheaper and better to confiscate a standard private personal school an individual has sweated to establish. angry angry angry angry angry angry

Behind every great wealth there's great crime. No, Tinubu none can, because your accusers have amassed great wealth from their crimes against fellow citizens, too. The thing is all of ''you'' are opportunistic thieves riding on the docility of a tribalistic populace. Credible opposition? I laugh in Swahili. Just one criminal mind jostling for some crumbs from the table of the monster criminal. A ''Credible opposition'' that went to bed with the devilish pdp and delivered the SW states to Jonathan on the principle of tomorrow's porridge is anything but credible. In saner climes all of una together with una family would have been paraded in daylight and shot.
^^^ I beg to differ with the bolded: ethnicity is the primary cause of our woes in Nigeria today. The 'greed and a dysfunctional system' you mentioned as being the main issues are the effects of ethnicity.

It's ethnicity that makes people be appointed into positions they're not qualified to man; it's ethnicity that makes dolts in government loot and steal from the commonwealth as they believe they have no stake in Nigeria but rather owe primary allegiance to their ethnic group; it's ethnicity that makes dolts in government care less about socio-economic issues emanating in places other than where they're from, thus allowing such issues to fester, get worse and become intractable (in the south east for instance: Ibeto cement; Innoson grp; gully erosion manace; bad federal roads; having less number of states than other zones; lack of a int'l airport until recently, etc); it's ethncity that causes conflicts like the one we're seeing in Plateau today; it's ethncity that kills merit being recognized as the primary consideration for gaining admission to tertiary and other institutions in Nigeria; it's ethnicity that makes criminals in government get away with 'murder'; and finally, it's probably ethncity that has made you to be not as bright as you could have been, b'cos you're waiting for quota-system, federal character and 'na my papa land syndrome' to give you a leg up in life rather than rolling up your sleeves and trying to get whatever you're looking for based on bloody hard work.

Ka ji kwo?
my brother, if you like shout it from the rooftops nobody majority will not agree with you. but it is the simple truth. wink

AMERICA IS FULL OF RACISM,IN WHAT  WAY HAS IT IMPACTED  ITS GROWTH AND ADVANCEMENT? SERIOUSLY, WE NEED TO STOP THIS TRIBALISM AND ETHNICITY EXCUSE.

Ethnicity is going no where ,let us look at ways to develop our dysfunctional system that is blatantly corrupt and unworkable. Why is Achebe (with due respect) so fixated with the issue of ethnicity?, he hardly says anything without mentioning it. cool
In America, you can live and work anywhere, contest for elections, etc. A. Schwarzenegger is an Austrian, If i remember correctly Madeleine Albright is also not an American indigenous citizen, but she was one time secretary of state. even a nigerian had held political office, all manner of people are employed into the government service over there.

But in Nigeria we have quota system, region, etc.

If you arrest a high profile politician it is tagged as witch hunting of an ethnic group, obasanjo wants a yoriba speaker otherwise it means the yoribas are marginalized.
