@Pinkrex,Its wrong and completely silly to correct someone because of wrong use of English language.Nigerians cant even speak their local languages very well and no one corrects them.Go to Europe and learn how Englsih language has been simplified even with errors but nobody give a damn.Hardly you will find and Italian speaking English to each other or a German, they only try to speak English when you dont understand their langauge or when they are outside their country.

Nigerians will even correct the way you dress if let them or the way you eat. Some people are just born tyrants!

@ OP , you are spot on and your immediate adversaries on the thread just proved you right and tried hard to drag you into the pit but you scaled through .   I think it's an issue of  either up-bringing, experience and what we decided to imbibe as as an individual.
We live in a world where the basics of communal living and responsibility is fast eroding and where we  have deranged Pride believe we are alpha and omega  shocked shocked  shocked accompanying that is the incorrigible nature.furthermore, we are fast loosing the intangible sense of respect for other poeple. Also I have observed that  we become tend to equate knowledge and eloquence with how much we are good at throwing abuses at each other.

If you are quick to abusing, defaming  and cursing people, you definitely be sensitive to innocuous  statements in the form of corrections and thus irrationally flares  defensively  at any coming in your direction.  tongue tongue tongue.

Let also note that ( in my own view) accepting a correction, is quite different from someone correcting perceived flaws.
Na English grammar dey cause all this. this woman dey talk of correction generally or she dey after english grammar correction. See china dey progress without English grammar. Abi na because of our English grammar wey no correct that's why we no fit progress? huh huh huh huh

Its not wrong, Its never!!!

They might never know it or take the time to know it until their attention is drawn to it; besides people correcting you doesn't mean you are an illiterate .

For me most times I multi task to reply posts on NL which i make alotta mistakes in doing so, but that doesn't make me dumb. And if im corrected in the right manner ill take it in high favour smiley
Most people also multi-task, because they are either replying to post/s at work. The primary issue on their minds is to post their opinions and not how grammatically correct their opinion is but getting the message across. wink wink wink wink

Politics › Re: Aregbesola Reduces University Tuition By 50% by agitator: 7:45am On Sep 23, 2011
follyg:
It is surprising the way people of my generation on this forum make comparism, if we continue this way then their no hope for this country. Is it that we have allow the elites to brain wash us? or are we failing to apply logical reasoning?

If Uk student pays £5k, they have access to student loans, the country do not have natural resources like nigeria, minimum wage is like £5/hr which is like 1250 naira. If Uk at a population of about 70 million and revenue greatly derived from Tax can still afford a good welfare system, it is justified if they decide to charge £5k for tuition. And note that the tuition still comes as loan that is payable after school when the beneficiary is aready earning above a certain threshold.
Now Nigeria has Oil and other resources that is not beneficial to her citizens, minimum wage is less than £100/month (infact majority lives on les than $1/day), no access to student loan or any form of loans, the govt cannot even adequately finance the university.

I am tired of the logic of comparing UK to nigeria when it comes to paying for utilities.
In what ways has any govt policies been beneficial to the citizens? all the phcn bills we have been paying have not guaranteed steady supply to the real masses paying while in contrast when u get to apo and other govt quarters you will be surprised to see steady supply of electricity where i can bet that they dont pay phcn bills. what can the govt ever get right with all the common wealth(crude Oil) going into their coffers? no security, no sound education, no good welfare or social system, no infrastructure, no respect for citizen rights etc.
The money that the likes of Ibori have stolen alone is enough to maintain all the universities in Nigeria to a world class standard and also send all Deltans of University age to school free of charge. This is apart from what Mrs Ibru has stolen and numerous people to mention.
My people please liberate yourselves and do not let this people continue to keep us in a state of mental slavery with the way we reason, nigerian citizens deserve far more than what we get (to me we dont even get anything), the country is hanging dangerously on the brinks of collapse but the leading class are too selfish to see (the manifestation is everywhere e.g militancy, kidnapping, social vices, religious extremism) because they have been blinded by greed.

What Mr Aregbesola has done is the right way to go in an egalitarian and sensible environment. I wonder when people argue that where will they get money to sustain projects that will be beneficial to all, the answer is simple, those are the money that got lost (embezzled) and we hear of when they have left office.
my brother, save your breath. Most of the people posting on this forum are beneficiaries of the loot. No sane person, hustling to survive will support such or make such comparisons.

The problem is the people on forum/internet are anonymous. If it were possible to see people posting, your will be surprised to know that most of those supporting these ideas and comparing us to USA and UK are on one way or the other related to political/public office holders and beneficiaries of the looted funds.

You just need to ask people to vote in a poll and see the number of those who will vote for higher fees. They are majority online.

I know several guys who studied Computer Science, Computer Engineering and cannot operate a computer, except those from affluent families or resident in the big cities like Lagos, Phc, Owerri, etc.

Dfav unfortunately the poverty rate in Nigeria is very high and hence it has turned many young girls into nothing more than beggers. If the Nigerian Govt were that serious it would have initiated a programme to bring about the empowerment of the nigerian woman and to encourage young women to be self indenpendent. In America women are self indenpendent and they have jobs even if they are still in school.Even a 19 yr old american girl can fend for her daily needs because she has a part time job but in nigeria a grownup 28 yr old woman would be hassling a man for little things like phones or house rent. Its that shameful and it has brought about the degradation of the nigerian woman.

I am not against private ownership, what i 'm against is selling government property to individuals in the name of privatization. Open the market let others come in.

If Nitel had been privatized without allowing others into the telecoms industry, do you think we would have been enjoying the benefits we see today?

Ima Ima:
i dont agree with mustpin, i think agitator makes sense. when these companies are privatizd, d situation seems to worsen. instead of nitel getting better, new telecoms companies sprung up.i think it myt be the same case with PHCN, altho they hv bn positive changes but they are not enough.maybe what will work is (if its possible) for private companies that supply electricity to emerge and supply on private basis to people but i bet that will be expensive.but again, what do i know?am just a novice in this area.
