OAM4J: How ethnicity, graft, others ruined Nigeria, by Achebe Achebe said: “Since the war, Nigerians have been subjected to a clique of military and civilian adventurers and a political class that have exploited the ethnic divisions in Nigeria. Almost all educated Nigerians know this but one still wonders why it happens. OAM4J: How ethnicity, graft, others ruined Nigeria, by Achebe
He noted that what upsets him most is that the entire mess, which Nigeria has found itself today was quite avoidable. According to him, the leadership appears not to really care for the welfare of the country and its people. This too is correct, but Nigerians have the hope of making it by singing the praises of those in Power. He forgot to add the Kings, chiefs, and so called elder statesmen, who come on air to tell lies of governors achievements I remembered some royal highness coming on air singing gov peter odili's praises of provision of pipe borne water for the whole port harcourt city when no taps were running. and so many others. |

wesley80: This is where you really get tired of Nigerians. A retired Major is arrested for wanton destruction of properties of ordinary citizens and the issue is what? Non courtesy in manner of arrest? Are you guys ok at all? The OP has always been an Oshiomhole hater so i'm not surprised at his comments but the way others have tagged along without asking questions like herded sheeps speaks volumes. What kind of courtesy should be extended to someone that rolls in bulldozers to destroy peoples homes for no reason? And for your information He only ordered his arrest and if anyone is unhappy with the manner he was bundled by the police, the issue should be taking up with the IG abi na governor dey train police? Here's a link to the true story for those interested in hearing the truth. vanguardngr.com/2011/09/illegal-demolition-oshiomhole-orders-arrest-of-task-force-boss This your post just shows why we are where we are. Different laws for different folks. The issue of the arrest came up after Ogbemudia's house was demolished, not because he was doing illegal demolition. Plus, the man was not a dangerous criminal. He could have been escorted to the station. Handcuffs are used for dangerous and violent criminals - especially robbers, murderers, etc. |

lagcity: oh boy. set up a one-room office in Asokoro and get trillion naira contract. our procurement system is completely fu.cked up! if the NASS didn't scream out now, those guys would have just laughed to the bank as usual. can anyone truly tell me that Jonathan didn't know about this contract? i'll give Ngozi a pass because she just got to the ministry and it takes a while to investigate past contracts especially with the too many roles that Jonathan has given her. who knows maybe overworking Ngozi is a plot so that she won't be able to look into dirty contracts in great detail. Jonathan and Aganga both have cases to answer. Ironically, this is how millionaires and billionaires are made in Nigeria. When you question how some people made their money in this country, you are labelled "a bad belle", "hater", etc." Their supporters/worshipers/sycophants will ask you, "where were you when so and so was working is ar$ off making his money? You where somewhere whining of bad government, complaining of harsh business environment or waiting for freebies. While your mates where working hard. In a few years from now two billionaires would have been made. If not for this story making the headline, those guys as far as Nigeria is concerned are nobodies, never been in the corridors of power, i.e. hold political appointment or worked in a government establishment. So, there wouldn't have been any concrete evidence linking them to sharing the national CAKE. |

tallfact: If you ask me again; Who's fault it is that we don't have good goverment, I say ours. We have so many companies that have good managers ( both public and private). These are the people we need not neccessarylly people that are rich or well know (note: good manager may be rich or\and popular).
The system we have on ground does not give these people oppurtunity to be selected from any party, so what do we do? I say we need to join political parties and out-number the bad politicians so as to select who ever we trust and not to wait for them to give us people that are answerable to them (some parties sourced and later soiled such persons their hand). Those good managers you are referring to, know they will be held responsible with any decision that causes lose to the company. They may even be jailed for shady deals. But the case with Nigeria is that nobody is held responsible for any failures. I am always pissed off when people talk of removing immunity clause, as if the governors just sign the cash from the state accounts to their personal accounts without tacit support of those without immunity. If those (civil servants, bogus companies, etc) without immunity are arrested, how can the governors steal. all humans have criminal tendencies, including the whites, but what deters them is the laws of the land, that is why laws are made. In the developed world, nobody is above the law provided there is enough evidence to prosecute. whenever a loophole or loopholes are discovered, the laws are modified to close the flaw. that is why their are representatives, MPs, etc, to modify, or enact new laws as the need arise. |

ikoha: maybe i missed something but this contract was awarded before Mrs Okonjo resumed work. and according to the report, she was still carrying out investigation into the award of the contract being that she was not the one that awarded the contract. is she not supposed to gather her facts together so that when she comes to the panel she will be able to present fact and figures? i dont understand the speed at which the panel wants her to appear before them. is she not supposed to be given adequate time or an ultimatum after which the panel can start talking tough and finally heaping legal brimstones on her. this is just a case of someone in your family commits a crime and you get quizzed about it and finally gets arrested. just my opinion. They have their percentage in the contract, so this action is to stall her investigation. Her investigations wants to stop some people share of the national cake. |

tallfact: I want to believe that things work because people have good plans, implement them completely and later evaluate. Where are our president plans? We are tired of political promises.
Where is PDP or GEJ plans. Even if there are unforeseen setbacks (like Jos and BK), there should be plan B. Projects should have a sure completed date. Even in policy making GEJ is lacking. Please sentiments apart let talk drive our president to perform his duties.
When Yaradua was made a president he was active are reversed most things done by OBJ even if OBJ was his backbone then. Very Good points, that is what people should be doing instead of blaming GEJ and comparing Nigeria to Libya, QATAR etc as if he has been ruling the country all the time since independence. constructive criticism is welcome. |

Yes, Qatar is ruined that is why they are hosting a world Cup, UAE is a choice destination because of their backwardness, Egypt too is a country of illiterates, of course there is no electricity in Saudi Arabia I don't know what is going to happen after your admirable christians insitgated rebels to dethrone Gadaffi But under him, Nigerians who have been there speak of good infrastructure, citizen welfare
You need help. Really, you need to study History
FACTS Yes christian countries were invloved in Iran - cause the toppling of a popular leader in 1952 and replaced him with a dictator who was in power till 1979 before being driven out. (what is Iran's problem now - they hold elections regularly. Is not being dictated to by US a crime?) Korea - North and South Vietnam - plan was to divide into North and South Cuba - invasion Angola - support Savimbi Nicaragua - invasion Grenada - invasion Libya - invasion under Reagan and now destruction of infrastructure Iraq - invasion, occupation because of fake story of WMD
You can see that christians have been busy thank you for your in depth analysis. PLEASE CAN YOU TELL US WHO HAVE BEEN RULING NIGERIA SINCE INDEPENDENCE? CHRISTIANS? MUSLIMS? NORTHERNERS? SOUTHERNERS? AND THE COUNTRY WAS PROGRESSING AT A TREMENDOUS PACE, UNTIL GEJ CAME TO RETROGRESS THE COUNTRY. |

GEJ is already dancing to their tune, that is why he appears to be clueless. He doesn't want to lose his own share of the national cake. How come reps just discovered a problem with the contract now |
