Kobojunkie: Stop with the lame-brained excuses. Yes, inherited a state with no serious drainage system in place but it does not take 10 years to build a functioning drainage system. Any serious government can do that in less than a year. Considering he knew of this problem before resuming office, one would expect he gets to solving it immediately . .. hit the ground running essentially.

And please do not follow this up with more brain-fart about how there is no money . . . many of these states are able to take out loans to get work done, and I see no reason why any new Governor should not have a good plan on how to deal with problems, even like this one, already.
Why won't they give excuse, after all he is not a member of PDP.

mapet: ..but for me the critical question are these,
If your friend belongs to the opposition party, do you think the government will trust him? Do you think they'll not be weary of a mole or moles in their cabinet/administration? I'm not too sure, but you're friend cannot serve 2 masters in this case as well. If he wants to be in politics, he either resigns and joins or try not to make his political disposition known till such a time, a government he favours is in power.
By law civil servants are not entitled to party membership. But in Nigeria, all the civil servants i know are active political party members

Politics › Re: We Own APGA, Northerners Will Determine APGA Leader - Alhaji Sani Shinkafi by agitator: 3:07pm On Jun 02, 2012
Dede1: The Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkarfi of a man has regurgitated what I have been saying about democracy as a game of numbers. If the northern region, as a unit, has the number, it is a determinant factor on who becomes the flag bearer of any political party in the country baring any other underlying factor.

Anybody Igbo man who argues against additional state for southeastern zone to match the number of states in the northern zones has no case against the ranting of Shinkarfi.
So more states for the SE means more population. Kai, walai I like all the schools you attended.

Tropilo: @bodejohn: i sincerely sympathize with u on ur dad's case. D police in Nigeria are a rare speci of select demons. U hv also given very good reasons for ur pessimism. Thumbs up! But, pls look on d bright side (there are a lot).
However, i think Nigeria is one of d very best nations as sited by d poster. I live in both Nigeria (FCT) and England (Hull City), i detest London just like i loathe Lagos. My only biz with Lag is only when i hv to travel to Doha thru d MMA.
Generally, i love Nigeria and very proud of my heritage. An American president ones said "think not what ur country can do for u but what u can do for ur country". What i do for my country is giving her my civic responsibilities and being an employer of labour.
Why won't you love naija when you live in abuja and and hate Lagos? so everybody should live in abuja now shebi?

Politics › Re: Ejikeme P. Nwosu Develops Process For Producing Flammable Gases From Urine by agitator: 10:48am On Apr 11, 2012
Jakumo: With due respect to the gentleman claiming to have "invented" the concept of using urine as a raw material for the production of methane, it bears mention that this process has been in use already for decades, in rural areas of China and India, and also in cattle ranches around the United States.

There is nothing magical about the anaerobic fermentation of human sewage or livestock dung to produce methane gas, and all it requires is a sealed fermentation chamber where that sewage is evenly mixed with precise volumes of water, to produce a slurry of the right consistency for the bacterial action needed to generate the methane. That methane can then be piped off for direct use as cooking gas, as is done in China and India, or, the gas can be used to fuel small-scale electrical power generating turbines that significantly reduce the mains electricity consumption of the establishment producing the gas.

Sorry Mr. Nigerian inventor, but you may as well claim to have re-invented the wheel, for all the recognition you will attract.

Now then, at this juncture, I would like to unveil my ingenious new invention of a video camera that sees through women's clothing in order to glimpse the promised land. Thank you Lord. The top-secret invention process involved my internet purchase of a certain discontinued infra-red sensitive video camera that was hurriedly taken off the market a few years back, due to the discovery of its capacity to render clothing invisble. Praise the Lord !
Thank you very much. Saw this in my Introductory Technology textbook during my JSS years. Detailed drawings, although nobody has tried in Nigeria to my knowledge.

Career › Re: Oil Expatriates In Nigeria Are The Highest Paid In The World by agitator: 10:25am On Mar 21, 2012
mykejones: Lets use logic again.
We all know the entire world's perspective of Nigeria. Not good. With the security tension and kidnapping crises all around us,Nigeria don't exactly pose as a 'condusive environment' for work. And the only way to convince dis Oil expertraites is to give them jumble salaries.
It's just like you been posted to Maiduguri for your Nysc, and instead of payin u the normal 19,800 they decide to pay you 50k. You see d logic?
Another point,am nt exactly sure if this jumbo salaries they get are tax-payers money. The chevron and the likes, are they owned by the Country?
Have you confirmed that Nigerians cant do the jobs these guys come to Nigeria to do? Secondly it is not tax payers money but NNPC owns part of the company and the jumbo salaries add up to the operational cost of the companies. These people wont pay you more than their citizens if you are among the few people that know about a technology and work in their country.

It is called capital flight. Somebody is brought to control material, is it an expatriate job that Nigerians are not qualified to do?
or is it quality control, while the Nigerians go to the field to do the real job, another nigerian is employed to collate and prepare the report and the expat just endorses the report.

I know of an OND holder who is an engineering manager, bossing over Nigerian Master Degree holders, hiring and firing them at will. The Nigerian Master Degree holder earns less than 10% of the Managers salary (not including bonus for delivering on time).

If you know what is going on in the oil & gas sector as per expatriates you will weep for Nigeria.
Career › Re: Oil Expatriates In Nigeria Are The Highest Paid In The World by agitator: 7:54am On Mar 21, 2012
Nigerians do the jobs while the expatriates enjoy the pay. The oil service companies bring in administrators, supervisors, foremen and they earn more than Nigerian engineers graduates.

Most of the expatriates don't do anything fantastic, except that they are sincere and dedicated to the job. There are expats who can't even understand engineering drawings. The Nigerians do the job while the expats supervise them to make sure the job gets done.

yinchar:
Its actually not there fault, its because we are been led by group of useless politicians, in many country, even India for example, NO Nigerian is allowed to work here, its in their law, a foreigner can only work if there is no Indian to fill the post, they will not even allow, but go to Nigeria, then you see Indians working, living the life they did not even dreamt of and cant live in the country, I hope by the time we realize all this it wont be too late for us, i guess it even late already,
Painful but true. Bring expats who don't know the job. Nigerians do the job while the expats only supervise. The Nigerians are paid 5% of the expats salary.

All these foreign companies even bring their people all the way to Nigeria for Industrial Training (IT) and during their short stay they boss over the Nigerians.

They practice racism right here in Nigeria nobody talks but if its done outside Nigeria in their respective countries we complain.

Can't we be supportive for once to solve situations rathr than criticise every good effort we see? Your pessimism isn't needed right now
Velo10, I don't have to recount how many times these devils have arrested me. The most recent was last October, around 7:50pm we were just rounded like criminals. They told us they just want to ask some questions and took us straight to their station. When we got there the story changed. Personally i knew what was at stake so while in the way i quickly called a friend to come to the station they were taking us to, he came we were released after parting with 10K some night around 12:05am (me and the babe i was with at the time). She was coming back from classes (part time).

In Port Harcourt they just arrange a bus and go out from 7pm and arrest people anyhow. I just pitied one babe (JJC) she was on the other side of the road waiting for the road to clear to enable her cross, while her boyfriend was waiting for her. After crossing the road she thought bus that packed was stopped by the boyfriend and rushed to board when she discovered that it was police arresting people she tried to back out but they just pointed a gun at her and told her to board the bus.

If I want to recount all the atrocities here on nairaland, the server hosting this website will crash angry angry angry

Family › Re: Why Do Some People Fear Registry Wedding? by agitator: 9:58am On Dec 02, 2011
bamto said it all. Nigerian law recognises traditional marriage, registry, so if you marry under tradition the union is recognised and acceptable before the law.

Women just have this notion that with registry wedding they can tie down the man and the law will stop the man from infidelity. It is a dream.
