Yes, it can. We had a male househelp from Benin Republic called "Biaveni" in the 1980s. My father enrolled him in primary school though he was overaged for the class but they had to start him from Primary 1. He was always top of his class. You will not believe that his parents came to take him back to Benin Republic saying they did not send him to Lagos to go to school. He was always treated like one of us. We all sat and dine at the same diner table when it's time to eat. My father was a scholar and did not fit the mentality of a typical Nigerian.

On the other side, my great aunt who was illiterate but was a very successful business woman that used to deal in textiles back in the days at the popular "Kota" market in Lagos had several househelps. She never send any to school. First thing she did then was to give them Yoruba names which I now believe is a wrong thing to have done. But maybe she did that for ease of pronunciation. Though she was a super nice woman when you don't cross her path. In fact she has a name that portray that. But if she is angry, she would use her hands and mouth to throw all the good deeds she did in the past into the ocean.

My point is an educated person is more likely to send an househelp to school compared to an illiterate individual even if the illiterate individual could afford to do so.

What if it was your sister or relative that was raped? It is not a single individual that has come out. Few other women including Ese Walter have accused him of sexual misconduct before. Once the embassy in Ottawa, Canada gave a female undergraduate student and several others that wanted to get their passport appointment. They all flew in from other cities across Canada, lodged in hotels over-night and on the day of the appointment the consulate choose not to open without warning or notice sent to these individuals about the closure. The student did not have enough fund for another day in a hotel. She was actually crying. I felt some shame that citizens of a country I come from were treated this way. Hope I will not get the same treatment for my next month appointment at the Atlanta consulate. I do not know why one need to always appear in person to renew a passport. For the e-passport I have which has expired, story is that it can't be renewed but one must get a new one. At this age in the 21st century Nigerian officials are acting more like cave men.
