He seems to be a Frenchman that want to use this flimsy reason to justify his company failure in Nigeria. If you are a tech company and you can't build a fraud-proof system then you are not ready to do business. I live in the US and all Americans I met have goods words to say about Nigerians that work with them. I used to work with a group of researchers in a university in Canada and their experience with me encourage to bring in several other Nigerian researchers and students directly from Nigeria. I don't think we need to walk around with our heads buried in the sand. |
IGBOSON1:But it's not a justification for them to go into crime. These same people are no different from politicians back home. If they could do this outside Nigeria then If they are in a position of authority in Nigeria they will leave the treasure empty. Nigerians should deal with their demons that make many of them think that robbing others to make a living is an option. Leave political agitation out this. |
abysirius:E gbaa .... the dog that refuse to hear the whistle of the hunter... what will become of such? |
IntrovertedK:Please point to the elders you are talking about. Elders or criminals profiting from the masses. Please keep that elder story to yourself because few of the elders are worth respecting. Elders that does not respect themselves will get disrespected. People like you prefer a docile population in the name respect. What respect? For who? Elders that sold their people into slavery and also coveted the colonialists for personal gain. "Awon Omo Ole Barawo Jati Jati" |
michelz:I am Yoruba and I wish our people are as fearless as this. Currently visiting Lagos and I took a lot of Taxify last few weeks. Most of the drivers that drove me were Yoruba. They all complained about been frustrated with Nigeria calling names... like Tinubu, etc. But once i asked whats the way out, they either go quiet smiling or says "God will do it". Really, people are expecting God to "physically" come down from his holy place to come save the masses. They all seem to know Sowore. When God send courageous individuals to come lead them out of their misery, they are the first to criticize or demonize the individuals. Don't act, keep praying. Hong Kong protesters have been on the street for over a month. At least their government shake for leg small. |
Its a common problem in many Lagos markets dominated by men. |
princenaira:What have thry done with funds collected by their governors and all NDDC funds. Show results with that first before you challenge anything elsewhere. |
successmatters:Nigerians are typical comedian. Which churches? Remember the story of the synagogue in the bible that Jesus turned up-side down. Was that God church as well? Don't we have many of such among present day churches in Nigeria. |
gidgiddy:I don't believe Biafra is an African word or term and neither was it coined by an Africa. Biafra is most likely coined by the slave traders to described. There was Bight of Biafra or alternatively called Bight of Bobby. Biafra as coined by the European slave traders is off the coast of Atlantic Ocean including a good part of Niger-Delta. |
360degreess:You folks are too misinformed or unenlightened. Do you know the number of militant groups in the US who are equipped and armed to the teeth. Even individuals like Louise Farakhan who continously call for dissolution of America can't just be arrested on flimsy excuse or verbal proclamation. The security agencies don't just run after individuals on the basis of words or verbal threat, especially their citizens. DSS did not gather any evidence before Sowore arrest and have no solid proof. They are just trying to cook up something. if you go back to last election campaign, Sowore had expressed willingness to meet Kanu to hear his views because he, Sowore, does not believe in modus operandi of Kanu even though he believe in his reasons for the clamour four Biafra. To Sowore, every Nigerian commoner are suffering from the same problem irrespective of tribe and if those problems are solved even Igbo people would love to remain part of Nigeria. These politicians and the government don't know what they are doing. They are just afraid because the "zombies" may rise (ala Rise of the Zombies). |
uhuns:You think every Nigerian is of loose and unprincipled character like you and your politicians. |
Sowore don buy market wey him no fit pay. All because he wasn't given a Ministerial appointment. He should rest a little more in detention biko.
Baboon and dog... which ministerial appointment and with which government? |
Why won't the enemies of the people unite. They are already getting scared. Time to tighten the noose and increase pressure on them. There need to similar incidents like shelling them with tomatoes and eggs, throwing them in waste dumps as done in Ukraine for corrupt politicians, and embarrassing children in foreign institutions. The latter will have more positive effect. |
Its simply because Lagosians as virtually almost all Nigerians have no expectations from the government and do not act to bring them to account. |
The truth is that for anyone to be arrested the victim must first file charges, then police will investigate if necessary to effect an arrest. |
Alwaysking:Trump surely won't like this. |
Netanyahu1:Here again, someone who probably has never stepped out of the shore of Nigeria or let alone work in white-dominated society saying "in USA nobody stopped you from being what you can be". Is it the America you see in movies you think I am talking about? You don't have a clue about the American system. In all honesty no one can stop you from being whatever you want to be anywhere in the world but don't feed yourself the illusion that America is a place where all "dreams" come through. If so, you would be using water to fuel your car by now. You claim most Nigerians don't look ahead, and as such Emeagwali is guilty of the same. This sound like your typical stereotype. This is not factual. Your story on the Nigerian businessman that choose to buy a G-Wagon rather than reinvent the way be does business just prove another thing that most of you only focus on individuals that make the loudest noise even though they don't add value to your lives. For such unwise businessmen there are thousands others that are quietly finding new ways to reinvent their businesses. Sadly its a culture where you find yourself, most cant take the time to look deep. |
Xisnin:Your response indicates, just as I mentioned before, that most of you have no clue about the issues you pretend to know about. There is nowhere I said he invented supercomputer. What he did was to come with a way that a supercomputer could carry out a calculation faster than previously done with application in the oil industry. Nothing wrong in going to the media especially if you find yourself in white-dominated society where Caucasians tend to "steal" ideas or inventions that other minorities come up with. You have no experience in this area so you can't to be an authority on this. Typically the media is dominated by white people and often they tend to ignore great things individuals from other races come up with. Apparently you do not know what an invention is and the processes or requirements around it. It is not part of the culture in Nigeria so don't act as if it's an area you can lecture anyone, especially someone like me. Even if one come second in a competition, does that take away the fact that what the individual came up with can greatly impacts humanity. Go learn to read and comprehend issues and points raised in other people's comment before attempting a response. There is a difference between "he invented supercomputer" and "he invented a supercomputer that carried out ....". The later means what he actually invented is a function used in a supercomputer. So, since you are not familiar with the "art" you can easily misunderstand others viewpoints. |
About Emeagwali, he might have exaggerated or taken advantage of his claims in order to benefit monetarily from it but let us ask these simple questions: 1. Did he ever invent anything that greatly impacts the way computer communicates? 2. Did he invent what's called a supercomputer that carried out the fastest calculation at some point? 3. Was he ever rewarded with one of the top awards in the computer science profession? The answer to all these is YES. So, how is he a fraud? The only issue I have with him is that he should have focused more on coming up with new inventions rather doing a self-promotion that materially benefits him. If you have not worked at the highest technical position in the US or any white dominated society you will never understand some of the challenges he might have faced. If you are not ready to "kiss" asses or lie low in front of your "white-gods" they would try to get at you. He surely couldn't fund his research by himself and would need a university or an organization/company to do that until he can do so independently. I believe he was frustrated out of the system and that likely "killed" his career. I have done that and been there so I know what it could be like. So most people who come up with this accusations don't have a clue how things work in the "world" they are focusing on. |
slam7000:Same thing I am thinking. The fact that he is Nigerian already make him potentially guilty in the eyes of Fifa committee. But what evidence do they have. I know anyone could get involved in this but where are the evidence or proof. I will advise him to appeal the verdict. Fifa itself is a straightforward organisation with a lot of skeletons in its cupboard. They are using a black man from a corrupt country as a scapegoat to give impression that they are fighting against their own demon. |
Wiifesnatcher:May the god of thunder hammer your mouth for mentioning Sowore and lack of Yoruba support for the RevolutionNow agenda. The Nigerians at home are now like hens whose feathers have been forcefully removed and can't even move around to "even chop agbado (corn)". They have been dehumanized into submission so to get support for ordinary protest now is like an uphill battle, meanwhile the people are suffering and in dire situation. |
Some people are talking about having a civil conversation as a way to engage Nigerian politicians as if we are newborn kids with no idea of their past. If you are critical of the people that carried out the attack then you do not love Nigeria or justice. People need to fight back against these oppressive politicians that pay themselves so much but are not having positive impact on the live of the masses. In Lagos where I am currently visiting, it's like there is no government. No rule of law or order with everything chaotic with wastes everywhere, even in their so-called highbrow area. Few days ago I saw a minibus with two men trying to keep a man lieing on the floor alive. There is no ordinary ambulance with trained personnel around to respond to such emergency. Its time to "beat" some sense into the head of these politicians as well as heckle their kids in foreign universities. Now they will start to think twice before traveling out of Nigeria. |
Dead on arrival. Coming from a Lagos indigene. I trust my people as money can't buy everyone. |
IBB, oloriburuku of the highest order. May the blood of Nigerians that died during June 12 struggle and that of Nigerians that perished while hustling escape your tyranny and the society you helped turn upside down chase you into your grave. I could see you are already loosing control of your mouth. The coming revolution will put you where you and corrupt political.class belong. |
GeneralPula:What a mentality... you are doomed already if you think this way. Not even giving yourself a chance. |
slickbak:Even if he did not go to USA willingly, he can be extradited at the request of the US government. Such has happened before. |
LordAdam:Nigerians tend to be extra hard on themselves because the western media have successfully made them look bad. The level of frauds perpetrated internationally by foreigners will make proceeds from most Nigeria related fraud cases look like "chicken-change". Because of these few individuals one cannot say most Nigerian successful businessmen are fraudulent. |
Newguyhere:If fine looking Nigerians can hustle for pounds and dollars on UK or US streets, why not in your country Nigeria. |
czarina:Will the shed be free? I think she has access to more potential customers by moving around. |
They should get rid of the sex. |
It's only problem solvers that can successfully manage the affairs of Lagos in order for it to be world-class. This set of politicians cannot live up to our expectation. I am currently visiting Lagos and its like a city on autopilot with no existence of government as exemplified by the general lack of law and order, waste-filled drainages, extremely dirty environment. From restaurants, to the roads and malls, the masses just act as if everything is normal. |
9jvirgin:Problem is most of the decisions made by government officials is based on greed and not on technicalities and needs of the project to succeed. |
