justwise:
Renewing and extending are the same thing, there is no difference.

I don't think you read and understood that link hence your post above and it did not mention anywhere in that link that you can renew after it expired
Emphasis on the bolded "your current temporary resident status is still valid, and your existing visa counterfoil is expired or was valid for only one entry, and
you need a new temporary resident visa to return to Canada in the near future".

Your existing visa counterfoil is expired or valid for only one entry!
Even visit visa for the US, i renewed it after it had expired, why would it be a big deal renewing after expiry really? As long as you are legitimately in Canada, TRV is only meant for re-entry so it really shouldn't be a big call to renew after expiry plainly speaking.
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 7 by akanni(m): 4:18pm On Apr 22, 2015
justwise:
I really don't understand what you are trying to say...can you extend your visa/TRV after it expired?
you can renew after it expires bro, not extend. i added the link from the CIC site.
check renew TRV inside Canada, it is possible as long as your status is still valid i.e your study permit is not expired as a stduent.
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 7 by akanni(m): 4:08pm On Apr 22, 2015
justwise:
Whichever one...you extend it before it expires
Not true justwise, for TRV, depending on where the person is, if he/she plans to travel out of Canada, that is when the TRV comes in and it is expected that the person applies for the TRV before travelling out of Canada, say 2 months before. If you have no plans t leave Canada, don't disturb yourself about renewing the TRV.

Apply for a new temporary resident visa from within Canada
If you are a temporary resident in Canada with valid status (that is, you have a valid study permit or work permit), you can apply for a new temporary resident visa to return to Canada before you leave.

You can apply in Canada if:

you are a legally admitted
student or
foreign worker
in Canada with a Canadian residential address,
your current temporary resident status is still valid, and your existing visa counterfoil is expired or was valid for only one entry, and
you need a new temporary resident visa to return to Canada in the near future.
If this does not apply to you, see our general instructions on how to apply.

tnuola, you are correct, he asked for TRV not Study permit, what Justwise said applies to Study permit and not TRV.

Hello house, kindly help with this information, I have been accepted at MUN for Masters in Educational Leadership. I have already completed Masters study here in educational administration. Now, I am just thinking loud, will my first M.ed, affect this second one in anyway, is it okay for me not to include my first M.ed in my application now. Will the VO, not in anyway conclude that both courses are similar? Please house, I don't want to make any mistake I can avoid. Kindly assist a sister o
If you can convince the yourself why this second masters is necessary, then go for it.In my opinion, it's better you explain why in your SOP instead of lying and getting things complicated.e.g if you do not declare that you already have masters, what would you say you were doing within that period and what evidence would you have to show? So,my advice, give a very cogent reason why you want to pursue a masters in a similar program and go for it. Others would advise you also, so weigh every feedback you get and do what you think is best.

Bro i don't think you understand his question well.I know his TRV is still valid, but remember CIC states you apply for extension of your study permit 3 months before the expiration of your visa, and he is entering Canada 2 months before the expiration of his visa, this is what will raise an eyebrow at where they issue the study permit at the airport and after that place he has no problem as other things can be sorted out freely. had it been its a 2 year program or visiting visa he wouldn't have much questions, mind you he can't get a one way ticket now with 2 months to the end of her study visa, like I advised him earlier he should leave b4 May, fast and pray inorder to find favor at the study permit Centre at the airport and as well be smart in answering questions when he gets there.I believe he will be fine.
Pally, study permit extension is different from TRV.The below was copied from the cic.gc.ca website:
"A temporary resident visa (TRV) will be issued if you are from a designated country for which Canada requires a visa. The TRV will be in your passport. The expiry date on this visa indicates the date by which you must enter Canada. You must enter Canada before your TRV expires. The TRV will also indicate if you can enter Canada only once (a single-entry visa) or if you can enter Canada multiple times (a multiple-entry visa)".
You have to enter Canada before the TRV expires, he has not even gotten study permit so what is he extending? What you mentioned is for those who are studying in Canada and probably have extras which will take them beyond the initial study permit gotten.
Just saw Bobola's post, spot on, let's not paint unnecessary challenges, he will be ok.He gets study permit for the duration of his program, the day he enters and when he is expected to finish irrespective of the validity of his passport or TRV. Check yours too, i just did mine again just to be sure. cheers

Hmm...you shouldn't have waited till the 11th hour. What you are about doing is dicey, don't know what your personal reasons are. Will advice you leave for Canada this month before May, where the problem lies is at YYZ airport where they will issue you Study permit, will advice you fast and pray hard and as well be smart when you get there, once they issue you the study permit, extension of your study permit can be only be done with the help of your school's international office...Goodluck.
His TRV is still valid till June so he is still ok though going earlier as suggested is better. He should make sure he has his current admission letter, evidence to prove he has the funds or has paid his fees. Then, he can buy a one-way ticket as desired, not compulsory to do a return since the course is more than a year.

We that now finished service in Nov. 2014 and are presently unemployed and still want to chop TRV; how we go do nau.
You must do something even if it's not paid work as long as its tied to the program you want to go for.It can be a volunteer job and in your SOP, you can indicate that.

Does anyone know how to pay tuition fees to Canada other than dorm account or buying dollar?
check your school website first to know how they require payment.
then, you can visit your bank and tell them you need a Form A.
they will give you the form A which is used to make invisible payments-international medical bills, utility bills, i.e any payment outside the country for things you cannot handle (intangibles).
you will fund your account (naira) and give them the school details i.e assuming your school takes transfers.
The bank makes the transfer on your behalf at their official rate

@akanni. I really love your clarification and I never knew someone above 28yrs old has gotten TRV with a diploma LOA... Please help me I am 28yrs , I graduated 2010, finished NYSC 2012 and since 2012 I've been working with the state government and also doing a volunteering job in my parent's NGO that focuses on child and youth care development. I have a degree in accounting Education and I also got admission into a diploma program in Early childhood care education. I was refused last year November due to employment situation and personal assets, travel history. Please I need to be very sure if I have a chance of getting TRV with my age and the level of program I am going for before I apply again next week because I have already try to get a resignation letter from my present employer because what I am doing there is not related to the program I'm going for. Pls mr akanni I need your piece of advice sir because u have experience. Thank u
Every case is different and like hayqins said, "we just trying to better our chances".The good thing for you is that you have an idea on the area to work on.Your SOP has to be rock solid to convince the VO on why a diploma in early childhood care education is necessary.I don't know what you do in the state government but your volunteer work might have made you develop a passion for that particular area of work so, convince them.If you can get documents from the organization you volunteer for, it can be added to your SOP.
Employment situation: Did you include your letter of employment, payslips, statement of account showing where your salary goes into, your savings, sponsor SOA,etc. Also, properties or other type of investments you have or your sponsors? If you can do all this and support with prayer, i say you have a wonderful chance of getting your TRV.

I'm sure u didn't go for UG at 30...a dip is max a year or 2...andwith good employment istory in that field u myt be good.
And besides no one is saying anything for sure...if you got it and you're one in twenty or even more...its still a cause for concern
We just trying to better our chances..
Guyss like standupguy, mrnillobrown and others would tell u for sure age is a very huge factor.
exactly!!!
It's not necessarily the age!!!There are other important things they look at; why the prog? how is it connected to what you are doing presently? if I got it despite my age, does that not tell you that age is not the issue? If there are others that did not get it, did they state age as reason for denial? Do not categorically say age is the issue, that's all!Emphasis should be more on finances and job, it's hard especially without a job or gap in work history and documents/personal statement of account. weldone bros, i know you mean well but there are lots we don't understand,s o, let's keep our hopes high and try cover all grounds...age is not the issue.

you don't know that bro, let them submit, do you know if they have very good jobs? Do you know what they have as per finances and assets?
There is a possibility they might be denied and also same probability that they will be granted.Don't let's always discourage, we have ideas on areas they can hit them on,i.e home ties and finances.let them work on that and let's see how far.

@diamoonds4ever

From my research.

Decisions on visa application made from different countries are bounded by different conditions

For Nigeria as a developing country and a very low level of living there are more stringent conditions.

You can go by this thread and ask how many people have gotten TRV by going for an UG at 28.
You can ask few of your friends studying in CA for UG They will tell u that there are very old people in their classes but they are never
Nigerians or africans....mostly Asians, Indians or arabs.

If you say he should apply, he really could as there's nothing God cannot do. All we can do here is to advise on how to make our chances of TRV higher
Hayquins, again i will fault you on your research and misconception. The fact that people don't usually say their age in this thread is probably why you have no idea that people above 28 get TRV for UG. fyi, i am very well above 30, got my TRV for a diploma prog, not postgrad diploma.Like someone said earlier, they cannot be biased based on age, that is why you do not see them tick age when they deny people.
it's simple, convince the VO by satisfying all the requirements and you will get it.don't place roadblocks in people's path, always say,"in your opinion" on things you don't have in black or white. You always hammer on age,it is not written anywhere as a yardstick,so,its not a criterion for trv; it has absolutely nothing to do with anyone's application.
if i can get it at over 30, anyone can get it!

Hello NLers,

Can see you are doing a superb work enlightening academic enthusiasts.

I am currently pursuing a master degree in petroleum engineering for falls 2015.

I have applied to a few universities
Memorial (admitted) MASc Oil And Gas Engineering
Dalhousie (admitted) M.Eng Chemical Engineering
Regina (Pending) M.Eng Petroleum System Engineering
Calgary (Pending)M. Eng Petroleum Engineering
Alberta (Rejected)

I'll like to solicit your advice on the offer I should take out of the available 4.
Also how do I go about fInancial funding as none has given me a scholarship.
With plans to obtain a Permanent Visa and work experience which takes priority.
Lastly, do well to give me an idea of cost of living, tuition and miscellaneous fees of each school.

Please is there a specific format sponsors' letters ( Affidavit of sponsorship, letter of sponsorship)
I truely respect your commitments and efforts NLers, many will not know the value of these information until they are billed rather handsomely.

Peter P.
for the permanent residence part, visit the page of each of the province you interested in and read up about how to immigrate as an international student, should give you an idea of what is required after your program.
On work experience, you might have to also check for jobs in your line of work in each province where your schools are to have an idea of what they require.
on idea of cost of living, etc, go to your each school page, for your tuition and other fees, accommodation (1 bedroom) is usually $600 monthly and groceries $400,(upwards) depends on you, the province and specific area.you can visit kijiji.ca and look up rent for your area.

You may seek a professional advise because it is rare to see a couple applying at the same time for study permit, even at times it is difficult tht VO will give then even if one is accompanying the other is there is no very strong home ties, most pple always wait to have the study permit first then invite their spouses thereafter.
Honestly to avoid both of u been refused, try n seek pro advise, studying in canada is expensive and none of u have any schorlarship, no convincing co sponsor,he is sponsoring himself,it s rarely tht one sponsors oneself witout any aid or very strong co sponsor and get it. U need to check it well so tht both of u won't loss out eventually, canada TRV is not a joke or child play
if both are going for studies and they can satisfy the VO on all fronts, finances, study leave letter, etc, i see no reason why both cannot get the visa really. Its all about satisfying the VO based on hard evidence not emotions.imagine if they have like 10m, paid tuition, both working, have properties, gotten study leave, why will they not be given?i think they have a great chance!

Hi family, I got admitted last year for MSc program at UBC, my TVR was refused twice, with the reason of not having insufficient fund and i submitted my application with a bank statement( fixed deposit of ) N6.5m , my husband as my sponsor. the admission was deferred to this year fall. along the way , I got another admission letter from another university with full tuition scholarship, I intend to reapply by end of this month.
my questions:
1) want to know if the 2 refusals will not affect this new one
2) the two were done online, should i still do the 3rd one online or opt for paper one? any effect
3) what is my stand if I apply with the scholarship, my spouse and employer as my sponsor.

tanx all
I think you should still apply online, since the major reason stated as been addressed with the tuition scholarship.Just make sure the earlier funds you stated is still available, you should be good.

CruzAj, tell your uncle to help you find out from CIC in Canada the detailed explanation for your refusal.
There is this form people normally request for that takes 6wks thereabouts and it explains the reasons the VO gave for refusal.
I honestly cannot find any reason from your app why it was refused so it might be better you find out the specific reason by requesting for your GCMS notes i think it's called.I saw this video on youtube on requesting for it but i have not had any reason to try it.

In addition to what my colleagues have said, if you have a B.tech and you want to go for a diploma, your SOP must really be sound. Why would you go for a diploma and not a masters? Your SOP must capture that very reason and must be very convincing.

#Lmao the return back to your country after school is very funny, but there are no two ways about it, is either you get the scholarship and come back to naija after your program or you forget about the scholarship and focus on your future after graduation.
Even with a Phd, as long as you use that scholarship for masters, you must still show for naija. i know they can even offer you the scholarship up to the phd.Its better you just sponsor yourself if you want to stay back, i.e after you discussed with the grad chair as earlier advised. You can actually come back and apply for express entry sha.youw ould have done like minimum one year back in naija by that time, that is another option.

Hello guys you all are doing a very good job and i must say am proud to see Nigerians striving to better themselves. a friend of mine was denied 2 times of recent for his study permit so now he came to a conclusion that the only way to get the study permit successfully is to make use of an agen which i object . please guys is my friend right??, am about to start with my journey of applying also for my TRV but not in any way using an agent. so he got me confused.
Tell your friend to list the various reasons he was denied.Any time you get denied, the reasons are always stated and if these reasons are not resolved, you can apply 10 times and you will still get No 10 times. The agent is not a miracle worker, he will ask the same questions and advice on what needs to be done,so, if your guy has so much money, let him go ahead with the agent but let him know using an agent does not guarantee anything. You can go ahead and do it yourself.Try and go through some previous pages and see what people submit, etc. If there are things not clear, you can post them here and it will be resolved.
