Please i appeal to you to kindly state when you are returning to Nigeria since Canada is so tough. Thank you
You guys are missing the point!
He said it's better to come prepared and i agree perfectly.
I was able to get a $11.50 job because of my over 12yrs work experience in Naija at a restaurant.
I could only do 20hrs when school was in session and I have tried to get a better paying job all summer to no avail.
This could be specific to my location but it's the reality.
Thank God for savings set aside before embarking on this path.
It's your call whatever step you wanna take but like realone said, it's not that rosy all the time but it sure has its perks and I know at the end of the day, it will be worth it.

Hello house,

For a baby who has dual citizenship (Nigerian and American) whose parents are Nigerian and intend to study in Canada, what passport is most advisable to use for visa application.
Does it matter if baby uses her US pp while parents use their Nig pp. some pole have advised against this.
Gurus in the house, what do u advice
You use your baby's US passport which will be stamped at the border for the duration of your program, based on personal experience.
You are ok,it doesn't matter at all.

The courses are actually related.... Safety, reliability and risk management are key areas/components of Mechanical engineering, engineering management as well as all engineering disciplines. He can simply state that that area has been his main attraction to Mechanical engineering, hence, his decision to utilize this opportunity to specialize in safety and risk engineering. He'll be fine.

If he joined any professional body since graduation from school.... It'll go a long way in taking care of the home ties...

Working in a bank, though not related to your course directly, but has played a role in the development of your people management skill and ability to work and deliver results under pressure and stuffs like that.

All the best in your application
so, he can actually say he has been working in a bank just to raise funds for his program. Also, due to the theoretical nature of the program in naija, the specific diploma program affords him the opportunity for a practical learning. He will have to link this to whatever he plans to come back to in naija in that field.

Hi everyone...my admission came late so I have to apply ASAP. I need advice on two things....
1. I studied Mechanical engineering in my first degree finished 2010....served between 2011 and 2012. Started working in a bank in 2013. NOW I got admission for a diploma in Safety and risk engineering. What can I possible use as home ties since I can't get study leave from my organisation....reason being that my intended course of study has nothing to do with banking.

2. How do I go about filling the questioneer? Do I have to print and complete in ink?.....Am going by paper route

Thanks for your anticipated response.
why are you going for that specific course?
what are your plans with your intended course?
answering these questions will help know what line of action to take.
to be honest, this is a tough one!

Someone should please help answer my questions
My sponsor (brother) who is married has 6M in personal account and another 7M in company account that he owns. What should I state in others and funds available for study on the application form? my tuition is 13,000 and Living expenses is 11,000. Thanks to all respondents in advance.
Funds available for study should not be less than $25,000 and will take care of your 1st year.
I guess your brother will state in the letter of sponsorship that the funds is set aside for your studies.(N4.25m)

[quote author=morgan2006 post=34957227]Hello everyone, Pls I seek your opinion on this mind bugging issue. I was delayed earlier this month for 4 reasons:

-Purpose of Visit (you are going for a diploma and you have a B.sc.You have to convince them this makes sense in your SOP,i.e why a diploma and not a masters or pgd.You will need to mention some specific courses you will do in your new PGD that was not present in the previous diploma and also the length of program.)
-Travel History (Not an issue if all is ok)
-Home ties (Did you submit a study leave from work, you married, have properties?)
-Personal asset
(You being sponsored? How much is available for the program?)

Pls my bros n sis,i want to ask, if the school that gave me admission estimated $17500 as first year expenses, and im presenting 5m in soa to d vo, is d money sufficient
@Waleakins, that will probably cover all your 1st yr expenses, what will happen to the subsequent years?
You need to use a SOA that is well funded to take care of your expense all through.
The only exception might be if the sponsor earns same amount monthly or quarterly from his job, lol.
Then they know your source will not dry up and you won't get stranded.

Oh I see.......I dont want to be seen by the family as someone who cares more for the husband to be than the family.......I hope you understand... So i want to at least help my sister to get here by any means possible.....she is currently a graduate student in Nigeria. I am looking for a way to bring her here before. So my husband to be can apply for his open work spousal permit without any rancour. Is there any way I can bring her her through visit, then she gets a job or apply for either another masters or phd during the visit period and stay? Please advise me....Thank you so much God bless you
i don't know how 'rich' you are o, but if you have extra $30,000, you can sponsor her for a 1 year masters program.
if your sister is working, let her apply for the express entry program, then, you can pay for her education assessment and ielts.
she cannot visit and work,so, best bet if you want her to come to canada is study or immigrate.
When you are married, your spouse is your no.1 family please, you cannot kill yourself because of what 'extended family" will think.
Do what you can comfortably afford, bringing someone to Canada is an expensive project my dear.

@taiwokazx @akanni : Thank you so much for the answers on my husband to be. However I still have one question. Is the process of inviting one's sister whose name was listed on the cic family form the same as the process of inviting one's spouse? What documents will be needed for someones sister? . what documents do i need to gather if i am inviting my sister? and what documents does my sister need needs to show cic? Thank you.
What will the sister be coming to do? The spousal work permit is unique, your sister can only apply to visit, not work. She could apply for visit visa but you will need to prove you can accommodate her conveniently.
She will also need to fulfill the same requirement for a visit visa; evidence that she will come back, financial assets, job, and any other thing to support her application.

Thank you so much for this reply. I don't have a job before I left Nigeria. But I have savings. Like 500 thousand is left in the account. I came to Canada early this year with funding paid from within canada (Scholarship)so I get paid 500 dollars biweekly after tax. This is my own profile. As for my husband to be,he earns about 80 thousand naira per month and he has a current balance of 1.2million.

Now how much soa will be enough to proof to the embassy from his own part? I got here early this year. Do I have to be a permanent resident before I can invite him after our marriage? I am on a two years masters degree and I am yet to complete a semester . Please shed more light. Thank you
your letter should just state that you miss your spouse and you want him around for support.
Also, i don't think the amount is really a big deal, if possible, let him state in his own letter that he is taking leave of absence from work for the duration of your program to be with you and also work to support the family. The spousal open work permit is not about showing you get a lot of funds. You just have to show that there is money to get you guys started i.e accommodation and feeding for the first 3 months b4 your spouse gets a job.you already settled in and on sponsorship so your spouse's funds should get you guys started till he gets work.

He cannot travel without the TRV ma. The POE letter is just an additional document, they might not even ask for it cos they didn't ask for mine.
I have forgotten its content, it just introduces the student, not a big deal and it is sent to your cic account after you request for it.

Now a popular travel agency advices being on a student visa dat I get a return ticket, evry oda fellow I asked says one way wil be fine. Pls am bout paying differntials for return ticket. My visa is ttil November next year hop at point of entry I wont be quizzed on y I bought a one way ticket thanks again fo ur detailed response
Jacko, how long is your program?
You are a student and you are entitled to a one-way ticket.
No one will arrest or deny you at the point of entry about whether you used a one way or return.
What they are interested is that you have your admission! [probably evidence that you have paid your fees or you have funds (which is not in every case)].Don't waste money on differential.

BTW who has an idea how they verifyu from the school, is it through email message or they send letter to the school?
Depends on the school really.
My school was via mail, University of Ibadan.
Best bet is for people to go to exam and records department and inquire.

Thanks for your response.
Although, I know they cross check with US database but not sure if they do for all applicants.
Note: my passport is still as clean as though nothing happened. My visa wasn't cancelled. So, I'm a bit confused here, if I should come out straight and let them know, or I should just apply like nothing of such happened.
Crich, personally, i think you should get a lawyer to take up the ban issue and try to resolve it. Since you have evidence to support it, it's worth fighting because it will definitely affect your application to Canada negatively.Though like someone mentioned, presenting docs to support it when you apply for the Canada study visa, I am not positive it will make much impact, I would wonder why you did not clear the issue with US before now. This is my candid opinion, talk to an immigration lawyer and get their advice, its their job.

N.B Sorry, i just saw mevisbleek's comment after i sent mine, we are on the same page!

There are lots of job opportunities and you being billingual is a plus, you might have challenges deciding which job to pick.
Montreal is Canada's second biggest city after Toronto (google confirms it) and the commercial hub of Quebec where french is the major language spoken. So, go for it and wish you the best!

Hi all,

It's like our super admins are on holiday. Thanks to JesusDway, Meritl and others for stepping in their shoes.

Please, I have a friend who just got his PPR yesterday and he has 15days to send the passports to AVO. He is currently in the US studying and the email he got categorically stated that DHL is preferred in sending the passports. He has gone to virtually all the DHL agents and even to the DHL hub in Maryland, US but they told him they don't do return envelope for individuals. 1day is gone in the 15days given to him. Is there anyone who knows how he can manage this situation of sending his passport to Accra.

Thanks
maybe he should just send the passport to a family member in naija who will either take it to Ghana or do a return envelope on his behalf. He will probably give him a letter of consent or authorization to collect on his behalf.he then mails it back to him when done.

I really wonder how people could be so gullible especially with the agents who claim they know someone in the Canadian embassy or VO who can influence application. That is why it is always easy to defraud such people, let's all be guided with agents and anything worth doing, is worth doing well.Read up and understand how things work, check cic.gc.ca on such matters and stop dashing agent the money that could help take you from canada airport to your college smiley

Additional resource:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=494&t=15

If you leave Canada and want to return, you must have:

a valid passport or travel document;
a valid study permit if you are returning to study in Canada; and
a valid temporary resident visa, if you are a citizen of a country or territory whose citizens require visas in order to enter Canada as visitors.
You must re-apply for a temporary resident visa (commonly known as a visitor visa) if:

your visa has expired; or
your visa was only valid for a single entry to Canada.
Apply at a Canadian visa office located outside Canada, or if you are in Canada and hold a valid study permit or work permit you may apply for a new visa at Case Processing Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.

Whatever you are holding TRV/study visa/work visa...etc ..you are advised to apply for an extension/renew 30days before it expires.
Post link where you got your facts from, at least I backed my opinion based on facts from the CIC website.
I refuse to be drawn into any name calling or negative comment, just post the link where you got your facts from.

We are all learning, justwise made an important point that I did not consider; how visa application works in other countries. However, Canada is unique with regards to the way their student visa works, hence the confusion. There is no problem, i am not commenting on it again, I guess everyone that is affected will do their own investigation and sort hismelf/herself out when the time comes.
when are you coming sef?
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 7 by akanni(m): 5:12pm On Apr 22, 2015
justwise:
[/b]

Bro you are confusing things here. Nothing like being legitimate when you are holding an expired visa/TRV. In any country the moment your visa expires you becomes an illegal immigrant. Visa extension is done while you still have valid visa in that country else you leave and reapply from your home country.
Justwise, common!
What is the meaning of a TRV in Canada? It allows you to enter Canada right? What is the meaning of a Study permit?
It allows you to study for a program. Imagine you have a study permit for 2 yrs and a TRV for 1 year maybe because your intl passport expires in a year (my case), are you saying because my TRV expires, I am now illegally in Canada even with my study permit?
As long as my study permit is not expired, I can stay for as long as my study permit allows, with expired trv; as long as I do not leave Canada. TRV allows you enter Canada whenever you want to and if you are in Canada with a valid study permit, you can always renew your TRV if you plan on leaving Canada to visit another country as long as your study permit is VALID.
This might not be same for other countries though but we are talking about Canada right? The cic.gc.ca site is self explanatory with regards to renewing the TRV; as long as your study permit is valid, you can always renew your TRV.
Note: this is specific to Canada, other countries only issue you student visa while Canada issues you a study permit after your TRV which could be why you believe you are an illegal immigrant with an expired TRV. If after this I have not been able to convince you, I guess I will have to go for a Phd in communications, hahahahahahahahaha
N.b Apologies for my earlier error on the US visit visa, I applied outside Nigeria after it had expired and it was a visit visa.
