I have being looking for the right time to post this story. Well, i have often thought i was an atheist, although i was raised a theist but until recently i have hated religion, or any belief system at all.
the one thing that baffled me is that powers finally located me in a church called Dunamis in the outskirt of Abuja and it blasted the atheism out of me. .
Beloved, i am here to share my story.
You were never an atheist. You simply didn't know what to make of religion. And whatever was blasted from you at dunamis, sure must have some semblance of rational adjustments to reality of life.

You find Christians trying to defend God and make him look endearing and all that, but that isn't our duty! We are not like the people of other religions, who think it's their duty to fight, kill and defend for their gods: our God is greater, stronger and higher than any other; He is well capable of defending the integrity of His name. He is capable of dealing with those who mock Him, at His own time.
I don't force anyone to believe in Christ: I can only tell you the truth about God's love showed through the death of Christ and I will do that with all love, respect and not being judgemental, and if you think I'm stupid, gullible or that my God is a fairy tale, well, I have done my duty as a Christian.
As Christians, we have the ascendency, because to us it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom.... mysteries that those whose hearts have been darkened, can never know, no matter the kind of scientific knowledge they think they have, except the light of Christ is shed in their hearts. I'm not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I think the issue I've raised is more deeper than what you just presented. The issue is like a theist Christian, Muslim, Animist Claiming that God exists BUT spirits do not exist. The central core of Theism is the believe that spirits exist.
In the OPs case, it is unthinkable to believe that God doesn't exist (or as some other atheist will say: they do not believe in Gods) and yet acclaim that spirits exist.
The average atheist does not believe in existence of consciousness outside the material world which negates the concept of spiritism.

* when the Jews discovered that Jesus was an impostor, they rose against him, and they reported him to the Roman government.
* the Roman government also found Jesus to be creating an ideology that is capable of creating dissidents, if left unchecked.

I think the term ATHEIST, has been adulterated and hijacked by people who think that believing in the non existence of god, gives them the right to explicitly disprove everything that seems subjectively implausible to them.
The need to create this thread was aroused just minutes ago, when I read a comment from a thread I created earlier today about life fields. I asked a question about ghosts, and an atheist replied me saying that ghosts don't exist and it's fiction. I was so outraged. I wasn't angry at his opinion, but I was angry at the way in which he expressed it, which invariably brought to mind, the exasperating instances where atheists just directly reject claims, because they deem it implausible, without even critically examining such claims.
Atheism is the disbelieve in the existence of God, not ghosts, telekinesis, telepathy, precognition, magic, spells, or things we don't have sufficient knowledge about. There are branches of science and certain scientific hypothesis such as: the hypothesis of multiverses and parallel universes, that have been marginalized and relegated to the periphery of the domain of science, because most scientists don't want to bother themselves with such things because they think it's implausible or mystical.
I hate when Atheists, just because they don't believe God exists, think they should also reject any "supernatural" claim that seems implausible to them.
I really hate this Atheist tag. I have decided to drop it. You guys do the exact same thing religious people do. You fill in gaps of knowledge with arrogant assertions of nonexistence. Atheism shouldn't stand as a barrier to expand your knowledge about your world, instead, it should be a spring board to exploring nature and having an open mind about new ideas and experiences.
That's why I dislike Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Daniel Denneth, and every other arrogant, close minded, atheist out there. Sam Harris is the only outspoken atheist I can bother listening to, because although he doesn't believe the God of any religion exists, he is open to other theories that explain "supernatural" occurrences. It was through him I learned about the Multiverse hypothesis, Chakras and certain meditational practices that provide experiences that have been held hostage by religion.
You atheists allow your atheistic world view to prevent you from being open minded, just the same as religious people. You guys are the same.

plaetton: I recently came across two articles dealing with separate incidents that took place thousands of miles apart, but both of which, when put together, have great bearing on the prevailing state of affairs in my country Nigeria, and Africa in general.
The first incident is a recently published scientific study conducted in the Uk that seem to suggests that poverty diminishes a person's mental capacity.
Excepts from the study reads: "The cognitive deficit of being preoccupied with money problems was equivalent to a loss of 13 IQ points, losing an entire night's sleep or being a chronic alcoholic, according to the study. The authors say this could explain why poorer people are more likely to make mistakes or bad decisions that exacerbate their financial difficulties."
I would like to add to it that in Nigeria, general insecurity at all levels tend to heighten this effect to very unprecedented levels.
The second recent incident that sort of ties in with this is the recent brutal murder of anti-superstition crusader in India Dr. Sarenda Dabholkar, who was staunch campaigner against the debilitating effects of harmful religious superstition, and for the enthronement of scientific temper and reason in his native India.
1. During last few decades the tendency for promotion of rational thought parallel to social change came up as Popular Science movement.
2. These Godmen and their types claim to be in possession of supernatural powers and advertise this claim. Many a times they claim to be reincarnation of a particular Saint or God, and this way they cheat the gullible and God-fearing simple folks.
3. Faith is a complicated phenomenon, true it is needed by a section of society. Faith in supernatural power, faith in institution built around the names of prophets and individuals operating in the name of some religion or God have to some extent provided an emotional support to many in this cruel World with gross deprivations and inequalities.
4. Recognizing this weakness of humans many a religio-entrepreneurs have systematically converted the faith into blind faith, a series of rituals, acts, which are deliberately used to exploit the gullible.
5. Reason believes in questioning the existing beliefs and to keep going beyond the prevalent knowledge .
6. Faith, particularly the one constructed around the 'institutions of religion' begins with unquestioning subservience to the prevalent norms, beliefs and rituals.
7. Many individuals who go in to establish their enterprises around these rituals, claim to be having divine powers.
8. the political tendencies operating in the name of religion, kept opposing scientific, rational thinking and kept uncritically glorifying the ancient past, ancient practices cultivated by the clergy to exploit the gullible society, society in the grip of uncertainty and deprivation.

PastorAIO: I really don't understand all these desperate attempts to link morality to religion. Morality is just basic to the way that the human brain works. You don't have to have any religion to become a moral person.

Its a Known fact that a lot of Countries world wide have their constitutions built and influenced by either Religion or Christianity or even Islam.....
124 out of the 196 countries worldwide have their constitutions built and influenced by Religion or Christianity or islam..The remaining countries have an open ended constitution but with mixtures of Religious influence in it.
Now if atheists abhor religion and all it represents which as a root is derived from God or gods or spiritual powers, Why then do Atheists live by the moral laws of these countries with Christian or Religious or Islamic constitutions?
You say you do not believe or recognize God, gods or spiritual powers yet you obey the moral laws derived from these influences. Is that not hypocrisy? Is that not falsehood?
I expected to see Atheists rebelling against moral laws which are God based and resisting authority afterall you do not recognize its source so must be exempted from such laws.
Is it the fear of the fallout of disobedience to these moral laws that forces an atheist to obey them or are they just pretentious Atheists with no spine and like I said all theory but no practical?
Since you say you absolutely lack a belief in God, gods or higher powers this means you have erased all traces of this influence or existence and must also mean that anything linked to these influences must also be erased as these physical influences still represent by extention that which you claim to have erased and absolutely detached from.

winner01: One of the most well known cases of mass murder during the French Revolution (inspired by the works of Diderot, Voltaire, Sade, and Rousseau, and managed to commit similar persecutions and exterminations of religious people and promote secularism and militant atheism) was the genocide at Vendée, which has yet to be officially recognized as genocide. Some estimates indicated that Robespierre and the Jacobins planned to massacre well over 15,000,000 Frenchmen, and that he also intended to commit genocide against the Alsace region of France due to their German-speaking populace. Besides the guillotine, the French Revolution also resulted in various other deaths, including trampling children with horses, burning people in ovens, "Republican Marriages" (which involved stripping people naked, tying them together to a log in a suggestive fashion, and then putting them into the water to drown. In the event that there wasn't enough people of both sexes, they also resorted to "tying the knot" in a homosexual manner), cutting recently-raped girls in half after tying them to a tree, crushing pregnant women under wine pressers, cutting up pregnant women and using bayonets to stab the fetus inside before leaving her to die, "catching" infants thrown from a balcony with their bayonets, and using shotguns to ensure people bled out to death.
The aforementioned actions during the French Revolution, especially the Reign of Terror in 1793, would also inspire Karl Marx with the Communist manifesto, specifically telling Frederick Engels in correspondences to each other: “There is only one way of shortening, simplifying, and concentrating the bloodthirsty death-throes of the old society and the bloody birth pangs of the new—revolutionary terror. . . . [...] Once we are at the helm, we shall be obliged to reenact the year 1793. [...] We are pitiless and we ask no pity from you. When our time comes, we shall not conceal terrorism with hypocritical phrases. . . The vengeance of the people will break forth with such ferocity that not even the year 1793 enables us to envisage it...”
Koukl summarized by stating: "It is true that it's possible that religion can produce evil, and generally when we look closer at the detail it produces evil because the individual people are actually living in a rejection of the tenets of Christianity and a rejection of the God that they are supposed to be following. So it can produce it, but the historical fact is that outright rejection of God and institutionalizing of atheism actually does produce evil on incredible levels. We're talking about tens of millions of people as a result of the rejection of God".
Nobel Prize winner Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was asked to account for the great tragedies that occurred under the brutal communist regime he and fellow citizens suffered under.
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn offered the following explanation: “ Over a half century ago, while I was still a child, I recall hearing a number of old people offer the following explanation for the great disasters that had befallen Russia: 'Men have forgotten God; that's why all this has happened.'
Since then I have spend well-nigh 50 years working on the history of our revolution; in the process I have read hundreds of books, collected hundreds of personal testimonies, and have already contributed eight volumes of my own toward the effort of clearing away the rubble left by that upheaval. But if I were asked today to formulate as concisely as possible the main cause of the ruinous revolution that swallowed up some 60 million of our people, I could not put it more accurately than to repeat: 'Men have forgotten God; that's why all this has happened.'
Atheist Communist leaders were motivated by a strong desire to impose an ideological "package" over the whole world. The package included the eradication of Religion, defined by arch-atheist, Karl Marx, as “The opium of the people.” According to Marx, religion helped keep the masses passive before the abuse of the wealthy and powerful, and the only way to free them from the “stupor," God and religion had to be eradicated. Lenin embraced Marx's views and so did Stalin up to the Second World war. The enforcement of Atheism was a “critical” requirement for Communism’s success, and thus it had to be implemented at all costs. This meant oppressive measures, such as brainwashing in state schools, the closing of houses of worship and arresting countless religious leaders.
Karl Marx’s extremist followers were not in any way impeded in their blood-thirsty global quest by fear of a Higher Power. Atheism took very efficient care of this “limiting factor.” Since the end justified the means, as Machiavelli had instructed, they could do whatever was necessary to bring about a workers’ paradise. Because the opposition in some cases proved to be powerful and resilient, drastic means were used. Large numbers were killed for refusing to abandon their religious beliefs. A great many were sent to concentration camps.
Communist-atheist leaders, in their own eyes, became supreme, all-knowing, all-wise and all powerful "gods." They had total control over people’s lives and over who lived and who died. Being "gods," they asserted their evil schemes over the masses with brutality and mercilessness.
In response to Dawkins foolish answer that: "Stalin killed people because he had mustaches?", People like Stalin were interested in propagating an ideology, not a look. Nobody was persecuted in the Soviet Union for not having a mustache like Stalin, or for not wearing a uniform similar to his, or for not liking the same food, music or sports. Large numbers were persecuted and killed for practicing religion, and for being interferences to atheist-communist expansion.
Atheism, therefore, was a major factor in the murder of countless millions, during the past century. Unfortunately, militant atheism, is still driven by some of the same extremist views reminiscent of atheist-communist regimes of old. They, like their predecessors, do not hesitate to admit that they hate God, religion and that they would like to see both disappear forever.
You have only succeeded in proving just one thing: God idea is a dirty joke taken too far.
Religion is just a summary, of preoccupation with irrationality.
