Do you ask out of a genuine desire to know? Or is it due to self-doubt and insecurity?
I've seen all your talk about the 'other 33,000 sects' being insecure and blah blah. But why on earth would you even think that I'm asking out of
self-doubt and insecurity
??

P.S. You still have not answered my question. As far as yours is concerned, the answer is a big captital NO.

bros AKOS, everyday brings ample evidence that in this country, we have not yet successfully translated the word 'civilisation'. everything our leaders do smack of primitive and unintelligent behaviour: u grant some poor unsuspecting investor a license. tomorrow u revoke it. the following week u revoke the earlier revocation. meanwhile the man has taken a loan to pay for that license and the repayment date approaches while our leaders twiddle their thumbs in indecision like babies.

let them swear by sango, ifa, sopona, amadioha, okija, or whatever is sure to kill them straight away if they have told a lie.

God knows we can't be Him, which is why He doesnt give us sufficient power. we'd misuse it in a heartbeat. we continue to disrespect Him and the opportunities for repentance because we're no longer afraid of Him.

let sango have their heads for breakfast.
Sis I really do not understand the analogy you gave. What I was essentially trying to say is that our leaders should not use any swearing-in process that is not in the constitution. If everyone decides to act based on their own judgement of things regardless of the constitution, we would have nothing short of a chaotic and uncivilised society.

Christianity EtcRe: Scandal: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome In South African Trouble! by AKO1(m): 12:01pm On Apr 16, 2008
He wants to confirm the genuineness of a miracle by what he 'sees'. Thats so unchristian. Christianity is not based on PROGNOSIS. It is by faith which is not based on what you see!
It is interesting to note that most of the miracles of Jesus and Paul and so on were done in broad day light and were provable. Thats why the Pharisees never doubted if Jesus could do miracles, they contended with the fact that Jesus is the son of God. When a 'miracle' is medically questionable, I think it is perfectly okay to doubt it's genuity.

I would like you to note that faith is only necessary to receive a miralce for yourself or someone else from God, where faith and miracles are concernced. Once the miracle is manifest, you dont need faith to believe that it has happened because then, it should be obvious to everyone who sees, whether they have faith or not.

Nigerian Public Officers will continue to be sworn in as is stipulated by the CONSTITUTION of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Please take note. It is the more civilised way forward.

In the bar that scrolls under your screen on CNN, they report the plane crash in CONGO as thus:

"Scores dead in AFRICA air crash "

Why is it that most of the western world just decides to see Africa as one monolithic mass even though we are 53 distinct nations and are probably the most multi-cultural continent on the planet? One country's problem is seen as Africa's problem. It is something that disturbs me a great deal and I would like you to share your views if you have any. Thanks.
LiteratureRe: How Many Secondary Students Have Heard Read Chimamanda's Novel ! by AKO1(m): 4:44pm On Apr 15, 2008
Yes indeed the fact that most of the younger folks have deserted the reading culture is very sad and counter-productive. However, we are living in the digital age and cannot ignore this.

I think the most realistic solution is for parents to play their part as effectively, if not more effectively than teachers. Students/pupils have no TV, internet etc in school so they really have no choice during school hours. Most of the books in the school library are also educative and not just entertaining. The reverse is the case at home.
It is imperative for parents to cultivate a reading culture in their children right from Primary 1. For instance, for every hour the child spends watching T.V they must madatorily read and report a portion of a selected book. I have an aunt who diligently regulates the amount of T.V her children watch. She is a concerned parent and has taken it upon herself to make sure her children have a formidable reading culture. Even time spent in Lagos traffic, between Lekki and Anthony is spent reading.

So peeboy the teacher, you could encourage your childrens' parents more. Help them understand the advantages of a good reading culture and more importantly, the fact that parents play a greater role due to the reasons I listed above. Good luck! smiley
Christianity EtcRe: Pastor Chris Oyakilome by AKO1(m): 4:28pm On Apr 15, 2008
As anybody who has ever been in Christ Embassy would tell you, you do not need to be a pastor to perform miracles; its a sign that follows the believer
So why do millions still troop to his crusades in search of miracles, including members of Christ Embassy?

Is it wrong for a man of God to be rich?
No, but it is wrong for a MOG to keep bodyguards encircled around him. Shebi we have angels to protect us in, like the amplified bible says, all our ways of service.

Christianity EtcRe: Scandal: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome In South African Trouble! by AKO1(m): 9:42pm On Apr 14, 2008
For the benefit of some who cannot make sense out of simple english language, I'll try to break down my point.

What I said earlier was that whether this is true or not, is is nothing compared to what we are still yet to hear. God has to expose all the messy 'men of God' to save the innocent souls that are trooping into their churches sunday after sunday. You would agree with me (even though you may not have hard evidence) that there is a lot of junk going on in the body of Christ generally. Whether you regard Pastor Chris as being 'messy' or not is your own business; there are hundreds of other authentic preachers to listen to and follow after so bone his side and move on! And for those of you like Donnie who find all these allegations entirely false, youre entitled to your opinion. Just make sure unna shine your eye well well.

If anyone can still not make sense out of this, you are on your own. Mo ti so temi.

Please - why does Pator Chris only heal the people with unnoticable diseases. When I see a withered hand fully transform on the screen before my very eyes, then I will believe he is real. It is too easy to sit an abled person in a wheelchair and make him stand up. When I see someone whose leg is withered - when the leg actually straightens out before my very eyes, then I will believe. Until then, Pastor Chris is just as fake as his accent.
I agree with you 100%. Most of the miracles of the apostles in the early church and in the ministry of Jesus were like this. God is counting on as many christians as possible to dare to have that kind of faith. It boils down to faith. There are people who will not believe the gospel and are on their way to hell until they see this kind of thing. And more importantly, christians have to get rid of the erroneous belief that miracles can only be performed through 'men of God'.

Pastor Chris is both controversial and mysterious. The press is barred from taking pictures at his healing services.
Why?? Can anyone give a sensible answer?

THE BIBLE SAYS MY PEOPLE PERISH 4 LACK OF WISDOM!
Bros, its a lack of knowledge, not wisdom, they are two different things.

Why can't people just reason that scandals will always come from the devil against men of God?
REALLY??

So how is God supposed to expose the guys that are not doing the real thing? Or do you want to tell me that 'Rev.' King's own was "from the devil against men of God"? Hunh?

I'm not comparing 'Rev.@ King to Pastor Chris but I'm advising you not to make such an erroneous statement like that again, ever!

As far as this Pastor Chris thingy is concerned, I aint shocked. We ain't heard nothing yet, scandal or no scandal. Brace yourselves.

Christianity EtcFlogging Children: Is It Scriptural Or Cultural Or Both? by AKO1(op): 6:42pm On Apr 08, 2008
Flogging/canning is as you may well be aware, is a very common practice all over Africa and is widely perceived as the most effective way of disciplining an erring child.
Notwithstanding, there are critics (mostly western) who believe that this practice is barbaric, animalistic and cruel.
Christians usually support flogging of children with the following passages:

Proverbs 22:15
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

Proverbs 23:13
Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.

Proverbs 13:24
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

In these passages, the rod is interpreted literarilly. I'd like to find out how accurate you think this interpretation of the rod is, and whether flogging is a purely cultural thing. Thanks.
Music/RadioRe: Rock Music Is Satanic? by AKO1(m): 6:21pm On Apr 08, 2008
I personally believe that what makes a song satanic or not is the motive behind the songwriter's/instrumentalist's writing the song. That's why gospel rock is NOT satanic because the writer's motive is to glorify God.
Or haven't you discovered that as nice as latin music is, there are some instrumentals (not even lyrics) that are deliberately designed to arouse sexual feelings, which would be inappropriate for certain age groups and single folks. So it depends on the effect(s) the writer(s) intend it to have on people.
Christianity EtcRe: Is It Okay For Christians To Flirt? by AKO1(m): 10:03pm On Apr 07, 2008
I see that people are finding it difficult to define flirting in order to deduce whether it is right or wrong for christians to indulge in. In the first place I believe that the poster should have asked whether it is "right" or "wrong", not whether it is okay. Being "okay" makes it a subjective issue and the fact is that with christianity, nothing is subjective.

Anyways I think this answers the question:
1Thessalonians 5:21-23:-  {KJV}

21Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

22Abstain from all appearance of evil. the appearance, NOTE!

23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Music/RadioRe: Why Do You Buy Pirated CDs? Is It Wrong? by AKO1(m): 6:21pm On Apr 07, 2008
I understand that there is a law against piracy called the Copyright Law in Nigeria.

Apparently, no one seems bothered enough to enforce this law to the letter.

Till then, I guess I'm still rocking pirated CDs.

Remove the beam yourself.don't react like the scibes and chief priests who pass the message to the others around them but never themselves.pray and ask God in sincerity and truth. He'll show you best. But if you want to know it 'badly',post the name of your church.there are humble volunteers on nairaland that will point it out to you.No malice intended. There're wronger and common popular things to contend against biblically than some people's prayer phrses
Yeah I get the part about the beam etc etc etc.

If you have to know I attend a small church (about 110 pple) somewhere in Nigeria. It's not one of the 'mega churches' so there's no point mentioning it's name. So basically my point is don't jump into conclusions okay?
Christianity EtcRe: Misusing & Abusing The "blood Of Jesus" by AKO1(m): 7:24pm On Apr 06, 2008
There are questionable practices you do in your church tthat has no Biblical basis
