olabowale:
@Witness: Paddy mi, this is a better deal for you. Begging the holy spirit to understand the usage of blood, rather than complaining about this and that.

I was wondering that the response is more of SysUser than some newcomer out of Ibadon. Ara ara Isau, owun owun jakobu. Pure deceit!

You should ask the head man at the churches to get you the answer. The holy spirit may take too long. Maybe Jesus himself whose blood was shed should be the one to ask? In all of this you have left out father god! Come to think of it, the three persons can not be one person! I can't be in Boston, and in New York city and Eko/Ibadon/Ijebu Ode at the same time?

@ JeSoul I remember you having a problem on the condition of the "Muusslims" in your Beantown. And all over the western countries. Yet am sure in your extended family, there would be Muusslims among them. Even though I disagree with how the Admin runs his operation, but that is his right. His business decision, alone. If I can't cope with it, I just will stop posting.

Just like muusslims are around the west. Sisi me go put on Hijab. It will make you more beautiful. Prettier.

My lady, take that idea and translate it to every oppressed group aroud the world. No one loves to be oppressed.

You should ask the pastor or preacher. Thats easier. I hope he or she does not give you a song and dance. Personal opinion. You want the meat from the Mouth of Jesus or his father or his partner the holy spirit. Anyone else tellimg you anything else, is just stomping you. You see, a thousand and one hard words to express myself. But I chose this one, because its easier to take. I don't want to be rude.

It kind of from my perspective at least, gives the same impression of 3 godhead(s), personalities, person(s) in One God. Trinity is so important and it just did not find itself in the Bible; the NT. But the stange word can be proven directly from the BIble. Maybe no one should bother about 'The blood thing.' Its a small fish compared to the Baracuda/ whopper /Whale of a tale(tail) of Trinity.

Tori tie ni mo se wa sibi yi o. I just felt like amusing you. Kinda answer, is no answer. You know it and I know it. You guys are still stuck in the quicksand of pleading by a "Blood" spilled. Kuro nbeeee. Don't mind my written Yoruba. You got the idea. Yes?

Sprinkling blood all over heavens? Seven heavens? There are Angels and Angels Gabreil and Michael are there among them in heavens? Do they need the blood of Jesus, too? Tall tales like tall ships.  I think I will take the Revere bus ride around to downtown. I think I will take the trowley there. Or just continue on to Farmers Market. lol.
The preceding post in its entirety is childish and laughable.

Tayo-D, this is what I honestly make from your post:

Redemption goes beyond the forgiveness of sins. It includes reconciliation, enrichment, protection, glorification etc. All of these are possible only through that shed blood.
Yes, it is that shed blood that:
1. Was the means through which Jesus died, i.e. he died and shed His blood.
2. His death was the only way He could ressurect and be given a name above every other at the sound of which every knee must bow (Phil.2 : can't remember)
3. Jesus before His death, knowing the power that would be available because of His death (shedding His blood) instructed the disciples and us, to use that name to get our
reconciliation, enrichment, protection, glorification etc
.

So it all boils down to the name, not the blood. The shed blood is what empowered (if you will) the name. Even in confessing our sins by the blood not a priest, we do it in the name.

Hebrews 9: 11 When Christ came as high priest of the good things that are already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. 14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!
The context of this is forgiveness of sins and reconciliation, it has nothing to do with pleading the blood over a car, a cat, a house, etc. Many christians have taken it this far and I believe it is quite erroneous. Like you said, it is the conviction of the Holy Spirit (mostly through correct interpretation of scripture) that makes the difference.

Frankly this time , i have absolutely no idea why i was banned
Hmmmmmnnnnnnn angry angry seems like sentiments are overiding principles, it was most likely the name that got him upset, a rather childish move if you ask me. Someone posted in this section about Seun 'growing up', I read it before he deleted it; sharp guy. wink Where you're concerned just steer clear from the guy, then your paths would be very unlikely to cross. What you did (Not.Seun) was equally childish.

maybe you should ask Seun instead since it seems you have a direct access to him.
Lol at all oh! I asked him how effective banning was since a banned user could easily set up another account with a different e-mail address like you did and he sent me a private message.

somewhere said that Seun might ban my ISP
I said that. The consequence makes it quite impossible.

Now i am more than certain that Christians are an endangered species within Nairaland,
It's what I would call e-persecution. With the disciples of the early church, it was stoning to death. It's quite unfortunate.

The passages you quoted are the opinion of those you quoted and I do not agree with the citations for the following reasons:
They are not the opinions of those people because 2Timothy 3:16 says "Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God's will in thought, purpose, and action)" {AMLIFIED}

I have always wondered what the scriptural basis is for "pleading the blood of Jesus" or "covering themselves with the blood of Jesus" or "covering their house or car with the blood of Jesus" etc.

I know His blood washes our sins away but beyond that is there any other biblical application?
I absolutely second this point.

Sun God:
well christians are the best hypocrities and judges, they should know better. thats what their faith has built them for!

The bible is filled with so many premonitions, insults and swears that its unthinkable for an average christian not to be influenced by such diabolical words.

Its either you accept jesus or the kingdom of god wont be yours

its either your born again or you shall not enter heaven

woe unto you if you don't accept gods words

blah blah blah, its too much to write down.

Christianity has put you in a situation whereby you don't ask but accept. You don't think but do. It is a must to follow or else, lipsrsealed

There is no room for compromise or reasoning, its either your with us or against us.

So why shouldnt an average christian be so judgemental against everyone that isnt a christian?

The bible put them to it and its what they have been trained to do and carry out the orders of the bible!
You may find it interesting to note that much of what you said is absolutely correct, for example "its either you accept Jesus or the kingdom of heaven will not be yours". I understand that you are an atheist, hence your writings on this thread are of very little importance where the subject is concerned, frankly. This will also be my last reply to any of your posts on this thread. I sincerely pray that you do not die this way in Jesus name, amen.

If a christian sees faults in other people, the faults being inconsistencies with the bible, are they not in a position to point these out? If not, WHO SETS THE STANDARDS? AND HOW SHOULD THESE STANDARDS BE SET?
These are the questions that I would like people to biblically and constructively give answers to.
Like I said earlier, failure to do this will result in a chaotic society.

What promted this kind of discussion,
The fact that I want to understand the difference between judging and being a hypocrite.

If I reprimand you by the standards of the bible and am sure that I don't have the particular weakness in question, am I judging?

If simply pointing out other peoples' wrong is judging, which of us human beings is then in the position to correct others?

If everyone were to live by their own standards, we would have nothing short of a chaotic society,  that's what prompted this discussion. Thanks.
Christianity EtcWhat Exactly Does It Mean To Judge Someone? by AKO1(op): 10:49pm On Mar 29, 2008
Hello people,

In the course of my reading on this Religion section, I have discovered that many folks acuse each other of 'judging' based on Matthew 7:1 & 2-
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

I have however been pondering on the issue of judging, on a wider scale other than Nairaland. I shall illustrate using the story of Jack and Jill, my two fictitious characters.
What I have discovered (and I may be wrong) is that Jack accuses Jill of judging when Jill tells Jack that what he did or wrote at some time is wrong, is inconsistent with scripture and could incure the wrath of God.

The truth of the matter is that Jill's judgement is usually based on what is right, according to the bible. The question then is: "is pointing out another person's faults based on the bible judging?"
Personally, I think there should be an understanding of  the difference between a hypocrite and a judge. If Jill was accusing Jack of something that she also does, it is hypocricy, not judging. There is a difference. Or is there?

When a person cannot scripturally counter your argument they resort to
1. Accuse you of judging them
2. Accuse you of misinterpreting or misquoting them
3. Dance around the questions and return answers that have nuthin to do with the discussion
3. They say they'll leave, pretending to be outraged/offended
This is soooooooooooooooooooo true!!! I've even been guilty myself.
Christianity EtcRe: Catholics And Confession by AKO1(m): 9:50pm On Mar 25, 2008
This is the most explicit portion of scripture on Mary in the entire bible:

46And Mary said:
  "My soul glorifies the Lord
   47and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48for he has been mindful
     of the humble state of his servant.
  From now on all generations will call me blessed,
   49for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
     holy is his name.
50His mercy extends to those who fear him,
     from generation to generation.
51He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
     he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52He has brought down rulers from their thrones
     but has lifted up the humble.
53He has filled the hungry with good things
     but has sent the rich away empty.
54He has helped his servant Israel,
     remembering to be merciful
55to Abraham and his descendants forever,
     even as he said to our fathers."

56Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.

There is no place in these verses or anywhere else that gives Mary the overbloated regard that she gets from certain people. The bible doesn't instruct me to ask her to pray for me. The bible does not instruct me to make or buy or pray to her statue. The bible also does not instruct me to pray the rosary. Where all these traditions originated from is unknown to me. Definately, none of them is in the bible.

About Mary being the mother of God, it sounds completely absurd to me. How can the Beginning and the End have someone that we are supposed to regard as His mother? What many people don't understand is that Jesus operated as a man while He was on the earth. Thats why the bible says 1 Corinthians 15:21
For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.

Hence, I believe that Mary is the mother of Jesus, the wife of Joseph the carpentar and not the mother of God. Have you all ever wondered why Joseph is not referred to as the father of God?
Christianity EtcRe: Catholics And Confession by AKO1(m): 9:13pm On Mar 25, 2008
Well all I can decipher from your post is the fact that we both have differing opinions on the status of Mary. You believe that she is the mother of God and that status makes her different from any other person who lived and is in heaven. Secondly, you intelligently shyed away from all of my other points.

Anyways, my mother on earth is different from my great grandmother in heaven. There is nothing scriptural about asking people in heaven to 'assist' us in our prayers. Again I say that no such instruction is given in the bible. The bible says nothing about Mary's status outside the earth. It is an extra-biblical construction. If you choose to do anything outside the bible, you are on your own.

P.S. Rev. Pastor King is not a representative sample of all the 'protestant' pastors/reverends. Please note that.
Christianity EtcRe: Catholics And Confession by AKO1(m): 11:52pm On Mar 24, 2008
Moreover, thanks to technology, I have been able to extract all the verses in the bible where Mary is mentioned. You are free to add any that may have been omitted, which is very unlikely. Please go through carefully and tell us one that instructs us to ask 'our mother Mary' to pray for us 'at the hour of our their death'. Note that not all the Marys are the mother of Jesus eg Mary Magdalene.

Mt 1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
Mt 1:18 ¶ Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Mt 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. {conceived: Gr. begotten}
Mt 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. {presented: or, offered}
Mt 13:55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
Mt 27:56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.
Mt 27:61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.
Mt 28:1 ¶ In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
Mr 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. {offended: scandalized in, or, by him}
Mr 15:40 There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;
Mr 15:47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.
Mr 16:1 ¶ And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
Mr 16:9 ¶ Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
Lu 1:27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
Lu 1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
Lu 1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
Lu 1:38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
Lu 1:39 ¶ And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;
Lu 1:41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
Lu 1:46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
Lu 1:56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
Lu 2:5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. {taxed: or, inrolled}
Lu 2:16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
Lu 2:19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
Lu 2:34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
Lu 8:2 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,
Lu 10:39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
Lu 10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
Lu 24:10  It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
Joh 11:1 ¶ Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
Joh 11:2  (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
Joh 11:19 And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
Joh 11:20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
Joh 11:28 And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
Joh 11:31 The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.
Joh 11:32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
Joh 11:45 ¶ Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
Joh 12:3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
Joh 19:25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. {Cleophas: or, Clopas}
Joh 20:1 ¶  The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
Joh 20:11 ¶ But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
Joh 20:16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
Joh 20:18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
Ac 1:14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
Ac 12:12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.
Ro 16:6 Greet Mary, who bestowed much labour on us.

Honestly, I am still waiting for one sound argument to explain to me why asking the Virgin Mary to pray for me is bad.
No such instruction is given.
Rom.8:34:- "Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us". A ten year old will confidently tell you that Mary is not anywhere in this scripture that justifies my stand.

Ac 1:14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
She obviously was praying to the Father through Jesus according to Rom.8:34 because Jesus had ascended. So why do you think Jesus would delegate this responsibility, in part or completely to her when she got to heaven, if she got to heaven?
For you to do otherwise is your own way not God's way. "For no one comes to the Father except through Me (Jesus)"

Simple.
