LOL  grin .

The problem is that a lot of them are greedy and don't like to offer advisory services without some sort of reward.

But if you find those with open minds you will get reasonable services.

Though I don't depend totally on my broker.

I actually made the buy request and he just confirmed that the Equity Assurance was a good buy at going price
to be fair, unless u are paying him as an advisory broker, he isnt obliged to advise u. there are different categories of brokers as u know. discretionary ones invest on ur behalf, advisory ones advise and leave u to make the final decision, and some combine both.
some of them are not as thick as we think but i personally would like to do my own analysis as u know and issue buy or sell orders as appropriate. my broker the other day was saying he doesnt suggest to me cuz na so-so PE, eps i dey talk when im suggest to me, i laughed but usually take the info he gives and develop my own gist around the company

InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 4:53pm On Feb 05, 2008
@tiwantiwa

chellarams has been in the overbought region for a while now. its in high demand still and if u remeber, bros wanajo has been enjoying a solo ride on this illiquid stock for a while now.  tongue. He wont sell any to us lesser mortals.
u'll notice that the price has also consistently remained over the EMAs in the second part of the graph.

now only bigboylarry's crystal ball can tell us for how long it will remain this way sha. the trick is in spotting these trends early.

by the way, how do i post the pictorials on here?
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 4:37pm On Feb 05, 2008
just to clarify and conclude for all the fellas:

RSI - below 30: buy (means stock is giving oversold signal)
RSI - above 70: sell (means stock is giving overbought signal)

MACD (has 3 possible buy signals)
1. buy when MACD crosses above its signal line, sell when MACD crosses and goes below its signal line. signal line is EXP-9
2.Buy when MACD crosses centre line
3. Buy when u see POSITIVE DIVERGENCE (this is better seen than explained (pumice could u please help with a pictorial illustration of this cuz i dont know how to paste the pictures on here)

EMA - exponential moving average: buy when price rises above moving average, sell when price falls below moving average.

tech analysis can help make buy or sell decisions and should not be used in isolation. Also, no singular indicator is "the best indicator" and a number of indicators used be used together for best results.

Nigeriansecurities.com is a good place to start using the above explanations.

thats it, air cleared. now lets make some money

@roughcut, i use the 50 line on the RSI for my decisions to get in early, above 50- bullish, below 50- bearish.
i got into cutix about 2 months ago a bit on the high side cuz i see it doing really well.
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 2:52pm On Feb 05, 2008
@pumice

by the way i wouldnt buy FCMB just yet u know. the indicators are not looking favourable enough just yet. Neg chaikin money flow, macd below EXP. rsi down below 50
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 2:16pm On Feb 05, 2008
Looks like cutix is about to do a runner as well. trading over the 50 line RSI now. has been in a trading range for months. a breakout seems imminent.
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 2:10pm On Feb 05, 2008
@pumice

like ur analysis bros. much appreciated

for the fellas, just to say that in his example the price consolidation phase is the trading phase and can be any length of time ie only bigboylarry crystal ball could know. The dang sugar achieved a support level during that trading phase as the price went up and came down to roughly the same level before bouncing off and it seems to be establishing a higher support level now since the breakout Pumice pointed out cuz it hasnt returned to the lows of the trading range.

just my thoughts
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 3:56pm On Feb 04, 2008
@edward

only consolation will be if the price heads north and stays at least north-north east by the time u get ur cerificate cheesy

Greetings to the gurus in the house. Please, am new on this thread and i need help. My account officer claims that Dangote Flour Monies are yet to be returned. Is this tue? If not, how can I go about getting my money back so that I invest in something else. I use Crossworld Securities.

I have come to accept over purchase as a normal thing with my brokers, and I think I even enjoy the benefits these days. They don't ask me for any extra fees, for the free overdraft, I just buy and sell irrespective of what level of debit in my account.

Until such a time I notice any extra charges in my account, AM okay with this arrangement. grin grin grin
methinks this is a dangerous and if i may say so, unsustaainable arrangement, especially as it is ur money we are talking about here boss!

well each to his own sha but when it comes to financial matters i think u need to be more circumspect than this u know. what happens if they decide to start charging overdraft esp with their reconsolidation going on? u may not have a leg to stand on an dthey may want to hold ur shares as collateral or not execute future orders. i know u dont want that.

I have just looked at my cahscraft account and I can see they have bought shares I did not ask them to buy.I am now in red to the tune of 3 million naira.Am I supposed to pay back the 3 million naira for shares I did not ask them to buy?I can see almost every share in my portfolio.When I received the trade alert I thought it was a joke.

What should I do?I don't have plans of trading with cashcraft anymore and whatever money I have now is planned for my other reliable broker.OMG!
How do u normally issue ur buy and sell orders?
if u send an e-mail, do they have a record of u e-mailing these buys? obviously not since u said u didnt authorize these buys. if they have no record of this or any other form of communication from u eg phone calls, authorizing these buys i suggest u make an immediate representation to them before this gets cold.
i am saying this based on the assumptions that a) ur account with them isn't a discretionary account where they make the decisions on what to buy or sell and b) even if the companies they bought are companies u like and u allow this to continue, there will come a time when they will buy some u don't like, what will happen then?

should they want to play hard ball aka ogboju, then u may need to take it to their oga patapata or even higher to the regulators cuz they will be expecting u to pay for the N3M u are in red with them for.

all the best

@oxfordkid

penny stock in the NSE generally means single digit stocks nowadays. going with that definition, i think DEAP is a bit too expensive for now and besides all feelers suggest a P.O in the offing. Ikeja horse (sorry, hotel  cheesy) has bolted. wait a bit for a drop.

nig-german is coming online and if u can get it on monday, i like it. but pls dont ask me the time frame cuz i broke my crystal ball a while back  cheesy  cheesy. trust me, definitely medium-long term for me

i would have mentioned unic but TS dey fear me.

i bought oceanic at N27+ AND more First bank this week, just my choices, may not suit the time frame u are looking at.

hope this helps

from my point of view, N40M is not a big deal, guys trade with bigger amount. the most paramount question should be , if the investor has the analytical skills and  the emotional maturity in managing the outcome of his investment cool. if yes, let him be.and i think we should move on to other issues. we've dwelt on this 4 too long
