The word "Trinity" is human reasoning. No matter how we spin it. . .it means three. And the diagram by Athanasius clearly shows that: despite the attempt to say it represents one. Consider this; Jesus said to the woman: But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. (Joh 4:23) God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (Joh 4:24) Are we saying now that God has another Spirit - called the Holy Spirit? Whereas Jesus says God is a Spirit. The clear teaching of Scripture is that the Father is God and Jesus is God. Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (Heb 1:3) Is the brightness of God's glory; the express image of God separate from God? I think not: Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?(Joh 14:8-9) Who did Ezekiel see here? And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it. And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about. As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake. (Eze 1:26-28) |

Words convey ideas. The word "trinity" is a Greek philosophical construct to convey a certain idea about the nature of God. But I believe it is inaccurate and does leave room for erroneous ideas and interpretations as demonstrated on this earlier thread here. When Jesus says "I and the Father are one": What comes to our minds? That He is separate and stands somewhat apart from God the Father? Does scripture in anyway explicitly teach as the "trinity" suggests there are "three" persons in God? Though I disagree with Frosbel concerning certain of his views regarding the West and Israel, on this I find 100% concordance with him so I reproduce in full his post with just one emendation. frosbel:1. Do you believe that God is ONE? Yes 2. Do you believe that The Father is God? Yes 3. Do you believe that Jesus Christ is God? Yes 4. Do you believe that the Holy Spirit is God? Yes |
Jarus:And how is this witch-hunting? He should go and clear his name in court. Comments like yours show just why tackling corruption is hard in Nigeria. Here is a man who held a position being called to account for his time in office and you call that witch-hunting? I used to think you were one of the more objective guys on this forum. |
frosbel:^ What makes them real? They could be false Jews for all we know. |
@Gbawe: It does appear that you are embittered and losing it. . .since your much trumpeted coup and revolution following on fuel subsidy removal has not materialized (even your preferred presidential candidate is now an appointee of GEJ.) ![]() A lot of your caviling here shows a lack of objectivity and a failure to critically analyze the issues: Gbawe:^So the President has now become both Judge and Court of Law to be dispensing sentences. He has done his part by signing into law the Anti-Terrorism Bill. Direct your complaints to the judges and courts. Gbawe:^Please do tell us what happened to the Borno Governor? Your emotions cloud your reasoning. Firstly, the accounts of the initial arrest of Sokoto in the Borno Lodge do not directly involve the Governor. So in your mind: he should be arrested on the rumor of a suspicion. Yeah right, then the same you will come shedding buckets of hypocritical tears about GEJ's abuse of human rights. Secondly, do tell us how a sitting governor can be removed from office (assuming as you do that he is guilty). Gbawe:^Whether "retired" or sacked, the objective of removing Ringim from office was achieved in a pragmatic fashion. I can see you are a faux-democrat who revels in dictatorial tendencies. Since the lately departed IG was not found guilty of a misdemeanor or malfeasance in office, why should he have been sacked except to gratify impulses like yours? Gbawe:^Make we hear word: did you even think about the sentence you wrote above. So covert intelligence gathering and actions should be announced to you beforehand so that you can "see action". Yeah, right. Gbawe:^Please! Name one American citizen that the Americans assassinated due to involvement in terrorism. So because America uses extrajudicial means, Nigeria should do the same. And then the same you will come and be asking that Al-Mustapha should be hanged for extra-judicially assassinating Mrs Abiola. The arrested terrorists deserve their day in court. . .just like Abdul-Muttalab. Moreover in your haste to hate and castigate; you forget that it is the extra-judicial murder of Mohammed Yusuf that provided the major grievance for the rise of militant Boko Haram. Gbawe:^ You take yourself too serious. The root causes of BH are political and ultimately will require a nuanced political solution with the right balance of stick and carrot to solve. Obviously if you weren't so busy hating GEJ; you would see that. |
^Yeah. There was a certain poignant resonance at the end. I had read the book by Thomas Keneally even before viewing the film. . .and yet I had this powerful emotional response. I guess it was because it was a true life story. And the film so powerfully depicted it. Remember the scene of the little girl in the red dress? |
GenBuhari:^Emended to better reflect the reality. GenBuhari:^All 3 are thieves. |
TRUTHTELA:^The highlighted part of the statement is somewhat revealing. TRUTHTELA:^I thought they said the arrested man wasn't Abul Qaqa? It seems that BH is feeling the strain somewhat with their operations severely disrupted by the security agencies. |

dare2think:^ Do you mean Schindler's List? That movie for me had an emotional ending. It's probably the only movie I recall bringing tears to my eyes. |
key word here is desire. what you desire, rules over you. and yes, the context seems negative.
Agreed the key word here is desire but as you see in 4:7, it's not the way you put it. You say: "what you desire, rules over you.". Looking at Genesis 4:7; Sin desires Cain. Would you say that Cain rules over Sin. The key to understanding these two verses is the realization that in Hebrew, their construction is exactly the same except for appropriate changes in person and gender. Genesis 4:7. In that verse we read, 'and his desire is unto thee.' The meaning in this context is that what sin desires is what Cain will carry out. His desire is unto Cain in the sense that Cain is a slave thereto, and must perform whatever sin's desire may be. The Hebrew word translated "desire" occurs only 3 times in the bible and has the same syntactical setting in 3:16 as in 4:7 only 15 verses away. Thus we understand that: The woman has the same sort of desire for her husband that sin has for Cain, a desire to possess or control him. This desire disputes the headship of the husband. As the Lord tells Cain what he should do, i.e., master or rule sin, the Lord also states what the husband should do, rule over his wife. The words of the Lord in Genesis 3:16b, as in the case of the battle between sin and Cain, do not determine the victor of the conflict between husband and wife. These words mark the beginning of the battle of the sexes. As a result of the fall, man no longer rules easily; he must fight for his headship. Sin has corrupted both the willing submission of the wife and the loving headship of the husband. The woman's desire is to control her husband (to usurp his divinely appointed headship, and he must master her, if he can. So the rule of love founded in paradise is replaced by struggle, tyranny and domination. Experience corroborates this interpretation of God's judgment on the woman. |
theosci:The point being debated is if women are supposed to teach in church. Not Christ's authority. Teaching goes with spiritual authority and God has commanded not suggested that women should not teach in church. The bible is a book of types and foreshadows of Jesus and His bride - the Church. The relationship between the Man and his Woman is a type and foreshadow of Jesus and His Church. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. (Eph 5:31-32) So the Man preceded the Woman and before the Woman could come forth, the Man had to figuratively die by sleeping and receive a wound in his side, and lose some blood: And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; (Gen 2:21) Similarly the Heavenly Man died and received a wound in His side, shedded blood before the heavenly bride came forth: But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. (Joh 19:34) And so it is written: But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. (1Ti 2:12-14) But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. (1Co 11:3) Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. (1Co 14:34) It is interesting to note that anticipating that some will argue against this command: Paul declares in v36-37: What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only? If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. (1Co 14:36-37) You proponents of female "pastors" and "bishops" ignore the commandments of the Lord. theosci:We are discussing women teaching in church. A woman can preach, she can prophesy, she cannot teach in church. Jezebel is an example of a woman usurping authority. Even your words "Jezebel was an evil woman who defied her husband's (King Ahab) authority to get not only him, but the nation to worship Baal", shows the spiritual connotations of her usurpation of Ahab's authority. You say: "She neither preached about God nor followed Him." It has little to do with the content of her preaching. Rather it has everything to do with the spiritual ramifications of a woman acting outside her God-given role. Or do you think the woman mentioned in these verses: (Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. Rev 2:20), did not preach about God or think she was following God? Jezebel true to her name usurped authority over Ahab. Read again her role in the affair of the Jezreelite, how even Elijah fled from her. Consider her influence over Ahab which prevented him from fully yielding to God and only partially repenting. She practised witchcraft and sorceries. Her daughter Athaliah almost destroyed David's line. It is therefore not a surprise that the Lord calls the false female teacher Jezebel. That name ought to serve as a flag directing us to study the character of the original Jezebel. All female "pastors" and "bishops" are spiritual descendants of Jezebel and are under a delusion arising from spiritual pride and prophetically speaking they are Jezebels being un-husbanded. theosci:Not a good example. The fate of Vashti and Esther's trepidation at approaching Ahasuerus shows that your conjecture is flawed. She was the king's consort and her prestige and perceived authority came from her attachment to the king. She saved her people by going to the king as the king's wife and making a request. And the king said again unto Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition, queen Esther? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? and it shall be performed, even to the half of the kingdom. Then Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found favour in thy sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request: (Est 7:2-3) What did the petitioner Esther teach Ahasuerus here? Ahasuerus could depose or kill her on a whim. As for "leading King Xerxes to God"; in which Bible did you read that? Stop reading bible verses through your traditions and preconceived notions. |
. . .4 pages on a settled matter. It would appear we have come full circle to Genesis 3. The tragic events of that chapter are echoed in 1 Tim 2:13. The Serpent beguiled the woman through her desire to usurp spiritual authority over the man and thus paved the way for the fall: (Gen 3:6) And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. We know the woman sought spiritual dominion over the man by her act in 3:6 and from these words in 3:16: Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. What do the words "thy desire shall be to thy husband" mean? The construction and meaning is exactly the same as in 4:7: If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. God's established order is that the woman should not teach or hold positions of spiritual authority over the man. It was so before the fall. And before expelling Adam and his wife from the Garden, God re-established that authority by emphatically declaring: . . .and he shall rule over thee. The reason for that is clear. The relationship between the man and the woman is a type of the relationship between Jesus Christ and the Church. The Family echoes the Church. Otherwise can the proponents of women "pastors" tell us why these words appear: (1Co 11:3) But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. (1Co 11:10) For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. There is a lot of quibbling on this matter because the sort of witchcraft spirit that actuated Jezebel has found its way into the church. . .and so we see women forsaking their God-given roles and following Eve's footsteps. But God will rebuke them: Rev 2:20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. For those who are unfamiliar with the story of Jezebel (it is interesting to note that the name Jezebel meant Un-Husbanded or Unmarried); a study of her career and relationship with Ahab should shed more light. What example ought Christian women to follow? Certainly not that Jezebel. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. (1Pe 3:5-6) |
When I returned from Saudi Arabia, my mother encouraged me to join the Shite Sect.^Now why would the mother do that in a place where majority of Muslims are Sunni. . .unless she herself and several in the family were Shia. . .a fact that LagosShia himself has confirmed for us thus showing that the story is authentic. LagosShia: My grandfather Ado Bayero stands high amongst the wealthy men in Nigeria, but I forsook all of that money that cannot give me joy and peace. The word of God gives me joy forever. Not all of the wealth of my grandfather can give me that kind of joy.^Praise be to God our Father in Heaven who through the Lord Jesus Christ has ransomed these ones from death to life. |

@Topic: Why not a Philosophy Section? |
@InesQor: Long time! |
I find the initial post on this thread quite amusing for the following reasons: Firstly, the poster has an inflated ego and an overblown sense of self-importance; I "LagosShia" Will Embrace Christianity On Two Little Conditions!. Quite amusing really. Secondly, following Jesus Christ of Nazareth and accepting him as the Lord of Allah and Mohammed is actually an unconditional surrender and death. . .so the OP is quite literally chasing shadows by demanding conditions. You have nothing that is of worth or interest to Jehovah God. Keep your "two little conditions". Not interested. Thirdly, compared to the Divine Majesty: you are ant-like. . .and you remind me of a certain ant: The train passes by at 2 o' clock every day according to the schedule. Beside the rail track is an ant colony. There is one ant who doesn't believe that trains exist despite the regular rumblings that occur every day as the train passes by. So one day it crawls on to the rail track and begins to loudly declaim "I dare the train to pass by now". Of course no train passes by, for it is not time according to the schedule. And so the ant repeats this act from time to time until the fateful day when it crawls on to the rail track at just before 2 o' clock. As at other times, it begins: "I dare---". The train passes by at 2 o' clock every day according to the schedule. . .and splat goes the ant. Of course you will dismiss the answer provided to you in the bible: "Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead." And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, "We will hear you again on this matter." AND "just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment" The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined. Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah. [Psa 50:1-6] |

^ Remember this that I posted from earlier on this thread: Here's the likely scenario that will unfold. In situations such as this, Nigerians have traditionally looked up to NLC to provide leadership and direction. Of course NLC (which leaders are part of the elite consensus that subsidy should go) will as usual talk tough and threaten. . .will call a general strike. The strike will last about three or so days. . .maybe a week and a half maximum while "negotiations" with the FG go on, then Labor will announce that they are "suspending" the strike for a period of maybe "six" months or so. . .while they watch if Government will make good on its palliative measures. Labor will agree to be part of the committee to monitor implementation of "subsidy savings". . . .and so will end the "great Nigerian revolution" of 2012. A "revolution" that was spawned and died on Internet forums and social networks. kettykin:^ So true. What say you now? Revolution? Coup? "Owners of Nigeria"? |
