ByDway this is not about taking sides. Discerning minds have largely concluded that both erred. Aisha for stripping her husband bare and PMB for unrepentantly denigrating his love of 27yrs, in both cases before the international media. BAAAAAD!!

Oga, what's more disgraceful, than telling the world your wife belongs to the kitchen, living room and the other roomhuh
Wasn't he responding to the needless, attention-seeking, unwarranted details in the interview she granted? To AN INTERNATIONAL NEWS ORGANIZATION!!!! shocked shocked Just for the records, I don support his comments, or even the way he is running the country - the consensus is that the man is 4king up badly. However, for his very own wife to be among those coming to shame him publicly is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!!

This is what we expect of decent women:
yetseyi:
I wouldn't do what she did if I were in her position.
My loyalty is to my husband FIRST, party affiliations ,appointments even the presidency itself are secondary, the marriage has been there before being a president and will still be there after he leaves office.I will just see the being the first family as another phase in our lives, why cause cracks in your marriage because of a phase.
People should never question your loyalty to your husband even if he's the president .
Even if Buhari is the worst leader out there, you shouldn't come out publicly to say he is being controlled/influenced by others even though everybody knows its true. Other people can say it, [size=17pt]but not Aisha.[/size]
What she has said is true but it should not be from her mouth.
Every woman has influence power and for her to come out and say this shows it seems he has not been listening to her advice or they have not been spending quality time together.
She should have been diplomatic while granting that interview, she could have evaded some questions too. Now even the opposition will use it against the presidency.
I admire Dolapo Osinbajo a lot, now I don't blame her for being very low key.
May our loyalty never be tested.

Jonathan was able to ensure that the economy grow at over 4% every year GEJ was in power
!He ensured our economy overtook South Africa’s economy as Africa’s largest economy!
He ensured Naira was stable at ₦150-₦215 to $1 between .
He ensured EVERY state had at least one federal university!
He ensured virtually EVERY election INEC held under his administration was conclusive!
He ensured that civil servants were consistently paid as and when dueHow can you say a man who kept inflation at single digit THROUGHOUT had a failed govt?
Stop attempting to gainsay the undeniable facts here, the certificatelesscattle rearer is no where near Jonathan in administration.
You are standing with Buhari because of your political/tribal interest, not because he earned your support. Every sane Nigeria knows that GEJ is the one that truly merits our support because of his awesome and unprecedented achievements.[/s]

I am not, by any account, going to hold brief for PMB who I readily admit has made many mistakes. The emergency meeting of the National Judicial Council (NJC) is about now holding at the three Arm Zone of the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Journalists who had gathered early enough to cover the meeting were barred from covering the event, but an insider confirms [confirmed] that the meeting has [had] begun and that the meeting [unnecessary] is exclusively for members of the NJC.

This meeting is coming on the hills [correction = heels] of the arrest of High Court Judges over Corruption allegations. The arrest has thrown up a lot of debate from the [a] cross session [correction = cross section] of the society.

Meanwhile the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) called it absorb [correction = absurd] and unacceptable, but the Federal Government insists [insisted] that [it was] the ongoing trial of the judges alleged to be corrupt and not the entire judiciary as agued [correction = argued] by the NBA

This is perhaps the first time the Department of the State Service, (DSS) will be making such sweeping arrests and some believe that this is a high jack [correction = hijack]of the responsibilities of the Nigerian police.

Today’s meeting by the NJC is expected to make pronouncement [will the MEETING make the pronouncmenthuh??] on the position of the body regarding the arrest of the High Court judges.

From the archives of Saharareporters. AS I siad there been no love lost between Salami and Auta, so his outburst is really not surprising.

Several sources within the National Judicial Council (NJC) have disclosed to SaharaReporters the intrigues and behind-the-scene maneuvers that nearly sabotaged the council’s vote earlier today to reinstate the suspended President of Nigeria’s Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami. In separate interviews, these sources detailed the drama and tension orchestrated by a cabal that vehemently opposed Mr. Salami’s return to his job.

According to these sources who were part of the closed door meeting, the opposition to Justice Salami’s returned was spearheaded by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Ibrahim Auta.

Mr. Auta is the notorious judge who was used by former military dictator, Sani Abacha, to hand down a verdict that led to the execution of environmental rights activist and leader of the Movement for the Sovereignty of the Ogoni People, Ken Saro-Wiwa along with eight other Ogoni activists.

[b]SaharaReporters learnt that the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Joseph Bodunrin Daudu, also joined Justice Auta in opposing Justice Salami’s reinstatement. [/b]Incidentally, Mr. Daudu and Justice Auta worked in tandem in the hanging trial of Mr. Saro-Wiwa, with the NBA boss serving as the government’s lead prosecutor during the trial of Saro-Wiwa and his compatriots before Auta’s kangaroo tribunal.

Peter Umeadi, a member of the NJC, emerged as another strong campaigner against the recall of Justice Salami. Curiously, Mr. Umeadi’s late uncle, Philip Umeadi, also served on the Auta panel that sentenced Mr. Saro-Wiwa to death in a highly controversial and widely condemned 1995 trial in Port Harcourt.

Our sources revealed that 20 members of the NJC attended today’s meeting which was chaired by the outgoing Chief Justice of the Federation, Dahiru Musdapher.

The NJC had earlier constituted a committee led by Justice Alooma Muktar to help resolve the impasse created by the suspension of Justice Salami. The Alooma panel was mandated to liaise with all interested parties in the suspension saga crisis and submit a recommendation to the NJC for consideration.

The committee, which also had Olisa Agbakoba, a former President of the Civil Liberty Organization, as a member, reportedly met with the suspended judge and proposed that he accept to retire from the bench as a condition for his reinstatement. “I know that the Justice Alooma committee told Justice Salami that they would recommend his recall, but they wanted him to agree to retire as soon as he was reinstated,” said one of our sources. The source added that Justice Salami flatly rejected the condition, asserting that he was willing to continue his lawsuit against his illegal removal. The source said that Justice Alooma, Justice Pius Aderemi (rtd), Rotimi Akeredolu and Mr. Agbakoba supported his position that he would not retire.

One source told SaharaReporters that some members of the reconciliation committee persuaded Justice Alooma to have their group recommend an unconditional recall of Justice Salami. The source revealed that Mr. Agbakoba was then assigned the task of writing the panel’s report.

“That report was presented to the NJC at today’s meeting despite Justice Auta’s fierce reservation and opposition,” said one source.

Justice Auta had earlier written a report that accused Justice Salami of abusing his office as the President of the Court of Appeal.

The pattern of the 10-8 voting that clinched Justice Salami’s reinstatement revealed the nature of entrenched interests within and outside the judiciary that took a position on the matter.

SaharaReporters gathered that Justice Umaru Abdullahi, a former President of the Court of Appeal, aligned with Justice Auta in voting against Salami’s reinstatement. Justice Emmanuel Ayoola, the former chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), abstained from voting. The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Inumidun Akande, who was reportedly embedded with the anti-Salami crew, absented herself from the meeting.

Others who opposed the move to reinstate Justice Salami included Justice Moses A.D. Bello, the president of the Customary Court of Appeal in Abuja, and the Chief Judge of Benue State, a crony of former Chief Justice of Nigeria Aloysius Katsina-Alu.

Our sources revealed that the pro-Salami members were led by former Supreme Court Justice Pius Aderemi, Olisa Agbakoba and included a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Rotimi Akeredolu, Justice Alooma and Chief Justice Dahiru Mustapha of the Supreme Court. Other supporters included National Industrial Court President, Babatunde Adejumo, and Justice Aloma Muktar. Onueze Chukwujinka Okocha, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, also voted for Justice Salami’s reinstatement.

Auta recommended the suspension of Salami then in 2011. So its no suprise.

However, allegations that Auta is severely compromised has been on for a long time.

Salami was first suspended.
Katsina-Alu couldn't respond to Salami in the media while still active.

Check your facts.

Also I will like to see those active judges you say have been granting press interviews. Can you share links pls?
Just saw this.

Well, from what I could gather, Salami granted interview before his suspension. The interview was allegedly published by Thisday in its JAn 25th 2011 edition, while his suspension came almost 8 month later, August 18th 2011, to be precise. However, I agree it was unethical for him to take such issues to the media.

The President of the Court of Appeal had, in an interview in Thisday edition of Tuesday January 25, 2011, disclosed that he’d used only those he trusted for governorship election appeal cases. In his response to Senator Iyiola

Politics › Re: A Balanced View On The DSS Invasion Of The Judiciary by alezzy13: 10:24am On Oct 09, 2016
Many "educated" Nigerians have absolutely no idea about the code of conduct of sitting judges. The moment you become a judge, you are automatically barred from speaking to the press on any matter even while you are being oppressed.
"on ANY matter"? I dont agree. I've seen quite a number of judges granting interviews. Only recently, the chief judge of FCT was interview by channels. If you're referring to pending cases, then I can understand.

So when you subject a judge to public harassment such as "N50 million was found in his bedroom" etc, being an active judge, he is duty bound not to clarify issues to the press in defence of his image. This is why the protocol in my first paragraph is what it is.
What about the Salami vs Katsina Alu case? I clearly recall the former going to the press to clear his name.

The fact of the matter is that the judiciary has been terribly, terribly compromised. The 'self cleansing' mechanism is clearly not functional. Or how do you explain judges giving 'perpetual injunction' like Odili's? case (ie, do not EVER arraign him again!!) Or those that gave Igbinedoin and Ibori a pat in the back for robbing their respective states blind? the list goes on. . .

There is separation of powers, no doubt, but there must still be checks and balances. Just as the NASS members will be reluctant to try one of thier own, the NJC, due respect to them, have failed woefully in bringing erring judges to book.

That said, I cant say I support the treatment meted to the judges sha. . . lipsrsealed

I totally agree the judiciary has become synonymous with corruption over the past years. High profile criminal are allowed to go free while petty thieves receive prison sentence.

However this is NOT the way to go about it. I can understad the frustration with the judiciary, but abducting A JUDGE in the wee hours of the morning is not acceptable in a democracy.
