Quintopia: A dramatic economic downturn in Ghana is turning the once-peaceful nation into a hotbed of furious mass discontent, and angry demonstrations over rising prices and rising unemployment, among other issues.
Ghanaians are now emigrating in droves, with Nigeria, the regional economic powerhouse, a favoured destination for many of them.
Quintopia: IMF loan won't save Ghana's economy - Renowned US economist
Prof. Steve Hanke, renowned international economist at the Johns Hopkins University, USA, has stated that Ghana's latest crawling to the IMF will not save its economy.
The economist put Ghana's current inflation rate at an astonishing 49.35%, which is triple the 17.7% inflation rate of neighbouring Nigeria.
In a recent tweet, he said, ''Ghana is in 16th place in this week's Hanke’s #CurrencyWatchlist. By my calculations, the #cedi has depreciated ~29% against the USD since Jan. 2020. The Ghanaian cedi is a central bank junk currency.''
However the OP posted a link on another thread which I had originally read which made reference to 50%, hence my reference to 50% in my post that you quoted. Prof. Steve Hanke, renowned international economist at the Johns Hopkins University, USA stated that he measures inflation in Ghana to a stunning 49.35%/year:
Quintopia: Crisis-hit Ghana Changes Its Mind and Turns to IMF for Help
- Ghana had previously refused to seek IMF help - Hundreds protested in the capital over economic woes - IMF says ready to support, will start talks soon - Ghana's dollar-denominated sovereign bonds rally sharply
ACCRA, July 1 (Reuters) - Ghana, one of West Africa's largest economies, will hold formal talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on a support package, the government said on Friday, after hundreds took to the streets to protest against mounting hardship.
The cabinet gave its support for the decision at a meeting on Thursday, following a phone conversation between President Nana Akufo-Addo and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
Ghana, a gold, cocoa and oil producer, has until now refused to seek IMF support to rescue an economy crippled by the pandemic, rampant inflation and a depreciating currency, despite analysts warning it is close to a debt crisis..
The IMF confirmed Ghana's request for help and said it would start discussions with authorities in the coming weeks....
The global economic headwinds have already kicked in and social unrests from continent to continent would be the order of the day! There would be some regime changes as well. This is part of the economic cycles that occur before things normalise again.
Only those who have imbibed the lessons of creative innovation and financial sagacity from past global economic downturns and country-specific recessions will survive with near-absolute comfort.

walkbrazil4k: Colombia elects first Black woman VP Francia Marquez, who vows to stand for 'nobodies'
BOGOTA, June 20 (Reuters) - Francia Marquez, a single mother and former housekeeper, will be Colombia's first Black woman vice president after a historic vote on Sunday saw the Andean country pick its first leftist president, Gustavo Petro.
Marquez and Petro won 50.4% of the vote in Sunday's election.
In front of a background emblazoned with the phrase "change is unstoppable," Marquez thanked supporters from across Colombia for assisting her and Petro's campaign in a speech broadcast from Bogota.
Horus: Get out of America. It is now officially a Warzone
The likelihood of a U.S. Civil War occuring as hinted by Ray Dalio are quite high with the tanking global economy and the presence of gun-wielding white supremacists.
Throwback: I don't care that he lied to those who want to accommodate all manner of depravity as civility.
My concern is how can one claim to be a journalist yet is very comfortable displaying his bias and prejudice within the political space.
Should the so called "investigative" work of a biased Journalist be taken seriously?
True that!
That boy called David Hundeyin is a big fraud who tells some lies, insults and defames people. He overstepped his bounds and has to be charged to court for criminally defaming people and misleading gullible followers online! Just a few of his works are factual.
The iconic U.S-trained Nigerian investigative journalist, 'Dele Giwa was a delight for me to read right up to the year 1986 (when he lost his life due to severe injuries from a parcel bomb blast at his Ikeja residence... that definitely had the military input of the then military government's intelligence team!)
The Edo-born (then Bendel State) 'Dele Giwa remains stellar unlike this wannabe called David Hundeyin. Period.
Cc: @festacman, take note of this. I disagree with some of your points on page one. You have a lucid style of writing and use of words though.
Bbsharon: The Green Africa Airways is a new Airline in Nigeria established in 2015 but started operation 12th August, 2021 with their first flight touching down at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Abuja.
I got my boarding pass from the check in counter at the airport, went over to the boarding gate, got through the security and Airport protocols and waited to get on the aircraft. Boarding was called over the speaker and I went over to the airplane, got in, and settled down.
Take off was actually smooth for me and the air hostess were very courteous and attended to their duties accordingly. In-flight, water was served and the journey went on smoothly but there was no off-flight snacks served which I was actually looking forward to
Upon landing, I braced up my mind for the usual dump kind of landing most Nigerian Airlines do but that was not the case here as landing at the Akure airport was quite a good one and smooth to a good extent.
One more thing I would like to add is when booking with Green Africa Airways always understand the terms and conditions associated with your ticket and restriction placed upon such ticket. Like for the gsaver which is the cheapest ticket type, you can’t carry more than a 7kg hand luggage and anything more than that you will be charged for extra luggage. While the other ticket options allow you carry as much as it’s allowed on the ticket terms and condition. So, don’t get carried away by the cheaper ticket price you see when you search compared to other Airlines. kindly read through the details before checking out to confirm your bookings.
@BBsharon,
That's another insightful review from you! I love airline reviews. I visited this thread when it was still on page one yesterday and just liked and shared the video and posts you made with the intent to make my comments later...
Boom! I logged back into NL and your newsworthy review is on the NL front page!
So, 'Dami, have you ever flown into Akure Airport before now and what airline did you use?
Second, did you know that the ATR series aircraft is one of the planes that is used as an ISR (Intelligence Surveilance & Reconnaisance) platform in the Nigerian Airforce and they are flown into the battlefields by female Nigerian Airforce pilots? The ATR is a very rugged plane for commercial and military use.
1stGenAmerican: In Naija yes! $10,000 and passengers who have ApplePay would most likely see the money before getting off the plane. If I was on that flight, I would do what I always do: raise my hand and shout my name and seat number. If I couldn’t wait for the next flight, $10,000 is more than ample to get on another airline or rent a car at the same airport and drive then use what’s left of the $10,000 to pay my bills for the next 4-5 months or take the money and book a vacation and use the change to splurge on that vacation.
You're wise... and you seem to have an appreciable level of financial education that could see you retire early... (i.e., if you so desire).
1stGenAmerican: In the thread I started giving step by step instructions on booking your on flight I touched on this subject. I volunteer anytime it’s needed and have an account stuffed with airline vouchers.
An oversold flight prompted Delta Air Lines to offer thousands of dollars to passengers willing to give up their seats and take a later flight to Minnesota.
Passengers on board the flight from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Minneapolis, Minnesota were told the plane was overbooked after boarding had already begun, The Independent reported. Airline staff told passengers they needed eight volunteers willing to take a later flight, and in exchange those passengers would be given $10,000 each, The Independent reported. Jason Aten, a columnist for Inc. magazine, wrote that he was on board the flight with his family, as part of a planned trip to Alaska. He wrote an article for the magazine about the experience, saying that Delta was offering the money immediately, with the flight attendant saying, “If you have Apple Pay, you’ll even have the money right now.”
“They came on the PA system and said that they were looking for volunteers and that they were willing to pay $10,000, which everyone assumed they’d heard it wrong,” Aten told WOOD-TV.
Aten told Fortune that he and his family declined to take the money.
“The reason we didn’t jump on it was because they didn’t initially say how many volunteers they needed,” Aten told Fortune. “Had we known it was eight, we would have gotten off. By the time that was clear, four or five people had already left.”
Another passenger who said they were on the flight, Todd McCrumb, posted his experience on Twitter, saying that he was unable to take the offer because of his wife’s health limitations.
Delta changed its policy in 2017, increasing the maximum payout to passengers for voluntary denied boardings from $1,350 to $9,950, CNBC reported at the time.
A Delta spokesperson did not confirm or deny the money offered to people on the recent flight, but said, “The ability to provide compensation empowers our employees to take care of our customers and get our aircraft out on time.”
In a letter to customers Thursday, Delta CEO Ed Bastian apologized for recent delays and cancellations, as the airline battled weather delays coupled with understaffing. In the letter, Bastian said that Delta is shifting its employees and making logistical changes to prevent delays and cancellations, ABC News reported.
Better to keep your eyes and ears wide open to grab opportunities in life. You have to be nimble! This event could be used as a case study in Business School and in investment classes.
If only this kind of "aviation thunder" can strike twice on that same flight route, your "ApplePay" would be on steroids... Lol.
walkbrazil4k: In brazil, voting is mandatory and we are already in the election year in brazil.
According to the Federal Constitution, voting in Brazil is mandatory for every citizen, born or naturalized, literate, aged between 18 and 70 years. Voting is optional for young people aged 16 and 17, for people over 70, and for the illiterate.
You would pay a fine if you do not vote and you would have difficulties getting a new passport, even Brazilians abroad are also required to vote.
Citizens who have a regular status in the Electoral Court can vote, that is, without pending issues that prevent them from exercising their right to vote. This means that those who have not taken their voter registration card or regularized this condition until May 4, 2022, before the closing of the electoral register, will not be able to vote in the October elections. It is that, as provided for in the Resolution of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) No. 23.674/2021, the deadline for regularization ends 151 days before the vote.
That's pretty cool! With the deployment of innovative voting technologies like those that exist in Emerging economies like India and Brasilia, more citizens of countries such as Nigeria would be motivated to vote instead of watching cable TV, sleeping off or eating chicken shawarma at home on election day. Lol.
gloryhomemaker: This video details how to cook Ogbono soup that draws even with the pot covered. A step by step detailed guide that will help you make the best Ogbono soup ever.
Happy new month everyone.
Below are the list of ingredients I used.

The importation of live African giant snails is actually illegal in the U.S. They are voratious eaters and destroyers of crops and vegetation. An irony that the nutricious and delicious giant escargot can be banned in the U.S. Lol.
There are farm-bred, commercial grade African giant snails though.
Crunchy Chicken is a yes anytime any day. You can make this in the comfort of your home and enjoy to your satisfaction. You don't have to break a bank to enjoy the things you like eating.
Harlarbiz01: I miss eating this flying termites, gone are those days in the late 90s, we are all hunters in the area (Trenches) when it come to this flying termites called Esunsun or Iba as called by we Yorubas, Igbos call it Aku, this termites is said to be very nutritious, so rich in protein. My childhood experience is incomplete without talking about hunting of Esunsun, snails and fruits, so funny unforgettable experience. This insect comes out at night following light, sometimes in the early morning when it's still dark. Esunsun are actually termites that fly, very proteinous and nutritious. Known as Macrotermes bellicosus scientifically. I won't say much about the peptides and all other biochemical and microbiological information about this insect.
Exotic meals... Esunsun.
Esunsun shawarma and esunsun burgers... My creative spirit is on steroids. Lol.
Kennystaycool: How many types of food have you tried before? How can you prepare a nutritious drink yourself, natural drink, tasty, free from additives and preservatives? Smoothie is the answer. 1stGenAmerican: I’m not an immigrant. I was born here in America to a Nigerian immigrant and an American. Stay tuned for more updates from <E.*m.*o.*c>, a broke mentally ill moniker with several aliases that is infatuated with ME and America. This moniker has decided to stalk me here on Nairaland while making up lie after lie after lie about everything under the sun. He calls me filthy names and just like a filthy, deranged rapist, he lies about sexual encounters with me when he has never stepped foot in America, knows nothing about me, has never spoken to me, and will never meet me in person. He has said a number of times that he would murder me if he ever gets a chance, threatens my life every day, and makes my time on Nairaland very uncomfortable. I have reported him and all of his aliases to the Moderators many times but they refuse to do anything about him. Because my career entails close work with the US Courts, I’ve reported him to the FBI who is aware of his IP addresses and will soon get INTERPOL involved. If anyone thinks I’m joking, wait a bit and you’ll see what happens when someone sends death threats to an American while that American is using an IP address belonging to the US government. Even if he is never caught, the only place he’ll be able to get a visa to will be the Central African Republic or maybe Somalia.
Among other things, Nigeria is in terrible need of mental health professionals, facilities, and medications in order to get these maniacal people under control. Ladies, please watch out for yourselves because there are dangerous lunatics such as this one lurking in every corner of the world. If given the chance, they will stalk, rob, rape, defraud, dismember, and murder you. This murderous psychopath isn’t even in my country or on my continent but he is on yours. If he has developed a sick obsession for me, a woman that he has never met and will never meet, imagine what he will do to you and other women in close proximity to him.
Be careful and protect yourself and your life.
That's creepy though.
The kid probably likes you, but as is typical, he's been using a "sledge hammer" on you to catch your attention. Lol.
I'll send you a mail or PM later on, detailing what to do to make any troll to stop "harassing" you on NL. Its a top secret strategy and boom!... the Mod kicks in.
1stGenAmerican: There is a very lengthy thread that I’d like you to review in your idle time. It involves a Nigerian sentenced to 367 years in American prison. I was in possession on the 1250 page court transcript and CCTV supported the fact that the moniker appealing to Nairaland raped a minor. Can you believe that the mob mentality argued that he was innocent until a moniker in Japan posted an article proving that he had committed sex crimes in Japan as well? Some of these Nigerians yell propaganda and Western Media yet believe things they see on YouTube. They have no sense of what is and isn’t credible in the real world.
Ah! @Oyinbogoju's case in the U.S. Yeah, the cell phone pinging nailed him and revealed he was near the crime scene.
I strongly think he had some depression-induced mental health issues which led him into commiting crimes in Japan and the U.S. He would require the help of mental health professionals such as a psychotherapist to help him in resoIving his past life, while he's serving jail time.
I came in a bit late... 4 days late to this thread, so I've been silently reading the OP and more.
41 years?... Phew! A detailed Magnetic Resonance Imaging test would help to put this enervating saga to rest.
A lot of the bloggers have absolutely NO credibility and do not bother to fact-check, they only engage in cut-and-paste to drive online traffic to their creepy blogs.
The UK's Daily Mail could have made a "typographic error" while editing before printing out like they sometimes do... wrongly indicating the dude's age as 41 instead of 21.
Below are the boy's details from 2 official Nigerian databases.
My OG, R. Kelly requires intensive psychotherapy in order to get back into a normal state of mental and sexual self-awareness, and all the former kid victims have to get same too... and much more! Period.
