It's not only airpeace that the "outsider" has reviewed, he had reviewed many other airlines in Nigeria and other countries. That's his niche. He makes YouTube videos of airline services in many countries of the world, particularly airlines with reputable poor services.
Airpeace services are atrocious. I know a young pilot that resigned last week from airpeace. He said that the number of operating planes have reduced from 15 to just 2. He said most times the air-conditioning in the cockpit is not working and had to fly the plane sweating. He went to look for job outside the shores of Nigeria.
Holy smoke... SMH
Hot cockpit, sweating pilots, 15 operational planes down to just 2!
High cost of operations, poor management by the CEOs, etc, are some of the variables that have led to defunct airlines worldwide.
BSdetective: American famous YouTuber Josh Cahill with over 100k subscribers known for reviewing different airlines around the world in different countries recently visited Nigeria and flew airpeace and described his experience with the airline as flying nigeria's worst airline owned by a fugitive wanted for fraud in America, He called it the most Unprofessional, Unpunctual and Unsafe airline in Nigeria. Shinzo Abe was married to his wife (Akie) since 1987 without biological kids. This gives deep insights for those in long-term relationships and the importance of TRUE friendship.
Awesome insights about a great Japanese internationalist!
God1000: His death saddens me, I don't know the motive behind this whole ugly incident.
Why assassinating such a good man
I will NEVER forget today in a hurry. He was a dynamic leader.
The murderer [Tetsuya Yamagami] simply told investigators that he was dissatisfied with the former prime minister and intended to kill him. He'll get a long jail sentence, or even the death penalty for sure.
Who was Shinzo Abe, the former Japanese Prime Minister? By CNN Staff
Updated 0959 GMT (1759 HKT) July 8, 2022
Tokyo (CNN)Japan's former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has died after being shot during a campaign speech Friday in Nara. He was 67.
Abe was pronounced dead by doctors at the Nara Medical University hospital in central Japan at 5:03 p.m. local time. He was admitted into hospital in a state of cardiac arrest and medical staff were unable to stop the excessive bleeding, doctors said during a press conference on Friday.
Abe served two separate terms as Japanese leader for the right-leaning LDP -- the first from 2006 to 2007, then again from 2012 until 2020. His second stint was the longest consecutive term for a Japanese head of government.
Abe will be remembered for boosting defense spending and pushing through the most dramatic shift in Japanese military policy in 70 years. In 2015, his government passed a reinterpretation of Japan's postwar, pacifist constitution, allowing Japanese troops to engage in overseas combat -- with conditions -- for the first time since World War II.
Abe argued the change was needed to respond to a more challenging security environment, a nod to a more assertive China and frequent missile tests in North Korea.
During his term, Abe sought to improve relations with Beijing and held a historic phone call with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in 2018. At the same time, he tried to counter Chinese expansion in the region by uniting Pacific allies.
After leaving office, Abe remained head of the largest faction of the ruling LDP and remained influential within the party. He has continued to campaign for a stronger security policy and last year angered China by calling for a greater commitment from allies to defend democracy in Taiwan. In response, Beijing summoned Japan's ambassador and accused Abe of openly challenging China's sovereignty.
Abe was born on September 21, 1954, in Tokyo, to a prominent political family. Both his grandfather and great uncle served as prime minister, and his father was a former secretary general of the LDP.
He studied politics at Tokyo's Seiki University and the University of Southern California, but initially entered business, taking a position with Kobe Steel in 1979. Three years later, he became an assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Abe was first elected to Japan's House of Representatives in 1993, at age 38. He held a number of cabinet positions throughout the 2000s, and in 2003 became secretary general of the LDP. Four years later, he was named the party's president and became prime minister of Japan. His first term was marred by controversies and worsening health, and he stepped down as party leader and prime minister in 2007. The end of Abe's first term opened a revolving door in which five different men held the prime minister post in five years until his re-election in 2012. He stepped down in 2020 citing ill health.
Diplomatic record Abe was a prominent figure on the world stage. He cultivated strong ties with Washington -- Tokyo's traditional ally -- and attempted to build a personal relationship with former United States President Donald Trump, traveling to New York to meet the newly elected Republican President while former President Barack Obama was still in office.
During that "unofficial" meeting in 2016, Trump's first with any world leader, Abe hailed the US-Japan alliance and said he wanted to "build trust" with the new President. He strongly supported Trump's initial hard line on North Korea, which matched Abe's own hawkish tendencies.
But as Washington's relationship with Pyongyang tipped toward diplomacy, with both Trump and South Korean President Moon Jae-in holding historic summits with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Abe appeared to be sidelined.
No meeting was scheduled between Abe and Kim, and in September 2019, the Japanese leader said he was still "determined" to meet him. Abe wanted to normalize relations with North Korea and ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula, but his first priority was to bring some closure for the families of Japanese citizens abducted by North Korea in the 1970s and 80s.
During his tenure, Japan's relations with South Korea soured. The two countries were engaged in a major dispute in which trade and military intelligence deals were scrapped, partly due to the legacy of World War II and Japan's brutal colonization of the Korean Peninsula.
Olympic 'Super Mario' success and setback Abe came to office during a time of economic turmoil and soon set about rebooting Japan's economy after decades of stagnation. Soon after he was re-elected prime minister in 2012, he launched a grand experiment popularly known as "Abenomics."
It included three so-called arrows -- massive monetary stimulus, increased government spending, and structural reforms.
Abe's allies praised the plan for reviving the country's economy and boosting consumer and investor confidence. But after a strong start, it faltered and in 2015 Abe fired "three new arrows" designed to boost gross domestic product. Any hopes they might eventually hit their mark were dashed when Covid-19 swept through the country in 2020, tipping Japan into recession.
One of Abe's major domestic achievements was securing the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Abe delighted video game fans around the world when he famously dressed as Japanese icon Super Mario during the closing ceremony for the Rio Games in 2016, to introduce Tokyo as the next host city.
In an instantly meme-able segment, Abe, wearing an oversized red cap, was shown emerging from a green pipe, as the sounds of the Super Mario video game echoed around the Maracanã stadium.
But the success of the much anticipated Tokyo Games was ultimately undone by the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced the competition to be postponed to 2021.
An initial unwillingness to delay the Games was partly credited for Japan's slow response to the coronavirus pandemic, which hit the country early in 2020. Abe declared a state of emergency months after the first cases were detected. His administration was also criticized for the low rate of testing, and an early lack of specialist medical equipment to treat the rising number of patients.
More successful was Abe's handling of the abdication of Emperor Akihito, the first Japanese monarch to step down in two centuries. He was succeeded by his son, Emperor Naruhito, in October 2019, starting the Reiwa era.
"Like the flowers of the plum tree blooming proudly in spring after the cold winter, we wish the Japanese people to bloom like individual flowers with the (promise of the) future. With such a wish for Japan, we decided upon 'Reiwa'," Abe said on announcing the new era. Abe is survived by his wife Akie Abe, née Matsuzaki, who he married in 1987. The couple did not have children.
lawyer: Hi Everyone! 2009 and 2010 was great for so many reasons because i made people finally realise they have the power to determine how they buy property before throwing away their hard earned money. Personally i feel very very fulfilled that i did my best to help a lot of Nairalanders search properties and recommend the ones that are valid and the ones that have so many hidden problems that by the time you purchase it, you end up having more headaches than when you previously didnt buy any land. I was doing my calculation yesterday and i realised i have turned down almost N165Million worth of properties that were advertised to be sold to intending purchasers that had so many hidden scruples that the agents and omoniles wont tell you till you commit your money and then its from frying pan to fire.
For the avoidance of doubt for First Time Property/Land Buyers or New Nairaland Property Viewers and Readers who dont know what a property search is, it means before you buy any land or property whatso ever in any form or shape where ever, you have to know the validity of it.
Lagos in particular is so notorious when it comes to sale of property or land that have so many fraudulent defects surrounding that land/ property that you wont even know what has hit you. These set of people are known as the Omoniles, land grabbers or land touts.
Omoniles naturally should mean owners of the original land which includes the original family that truthfully inherited the property from their fore fathers that has passed down to them. But the real problem comes when there are so many members of the family that are divided in terms of claiming ownership of the lands and how the land truthfully devolved to them. Before you know it, a property that is meant to be shared by a family of 3 to claim ownership is now being contested by the brother in law, the aunty, the great grand uncle relatives etc and thats when they begin to employ touts going around to masquerade as the original owners with the right to sell and after you fall victim of their sweet tongues and coercion, you realise that you bought from the wrong family or the wrong set of people who have no right to sell the land to you and you would be confronted by the original owners when you have started building half way and forced to cough out another payment to the real owners or be thrown out of the land. Trust me this scourge is very very real and 65% of lands in lagos have this problem one way or the other.
The other way your being decieved is by telling you the genuiness of the property comes from a set of documents. Those set of documents include either a survey plan, a deed of assignment, a certificate of occupancy, government allocation letter, government gazette or governors consent.
They will show you all manners of papers to make you believe them instantly and start pointing to different houses around there that has been built by one commissioner or one Minister or one big man and that their houses are still standing without any government wahala. What they want you to do is to instantly believe them and pay money to them immediately. One thing you can be rest assured is that, once you pay money to an Omonile, you will never ever ever get a refund of that money. Its gone and in some cases its in your front they will start sharing the money.
Dont ever ever fall for that trick. Always demand for what ever documents they have. I will point out the importance of each document to know the relevance of it and why it shouldn't be taken for granted.

1stGenAmerican: The war in Ukraine is shaking the commodity market and threatening global food security. The Western economic sanctions on Russia are supposed to force the hands of Russia to withdraw from the invasion, but the responses from the old Baltic power shows resilience. The war is a heavy blow to the global economy, mainly low-income African countries, and no one knows when it will end.
The COVID-19 pandemic had pushed the African continent into its worst economic recession in half a century. For Nigeria, it was the second recession in four years, which made it more challenging to recover. The unanimous agreement by academics, multilateral agencies and policymakers is that public financing needs to increase for governments to mitigate the socio-economic impact of the pandemic. Of course, the country chose the option to keep borrowing from multilateral agencies.
The pandemic reversed hard-won gains in poverty reduction in Africa, pushing millions into extreme poverty. More people added to those at risk of hunger and undernourishment.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), 40 per cent of Nigeria’s total population (almost 83 million people) lives in poverty. The economic recovery has been hindered by higher inflation and tighter global financial conditions. Rising interest rates and increased borrowing costs in international capital markets have raised the risk of capital reversals.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Western economic sanctions on Russia further compounded the situation. The reduction of exports from these countries exacerbates economic and social vulnerabilities. Food prices have reached 14-year highs, oil prices are surging towards the 2008 highs, and fertiliser prices also soared. Ukraine and Russia are major global suppliers of agricultural commodities, fertilisers and energy.
Global market shares for some agricultural exports of Ukraine and Russia are significant. The global share of both countries for the supply of sunflower oil and seeds is 53 per cent. They also supply 27 per cent of wheat, 23 per cent of barley and 14 per cent of corn. The crisis will likely immediately impact grain exports from Ukraine and Russia. Most wheat and barley crops are harvested in the summer and exported during the autumn. Ukraine corn exports typically remain heavy through the spring into the early summer. African imports from Russia and Ukraine are concentrated in a few products and countries.
The impact on food items is a worry for African households because they spend a high share of their expenditures on food. Precisely, Nigeria spends 57 per cent on food items based on 2019 data. These shortages will likely impact Nigeria’s demand as global prices of these commodities will likely increase, and some food items will be scarce. And let’s not forget how world oil prices affect the Nigerian economy – they say whenever the oil market sneezes, Nigeria catches a cold.
According to the United Nations Comtrade data, Nigeria only produces five per cent of the wheat, and Russia is Nigeria’s second wheat importer. Wheat is used in making staples like bread, semolina, noodles and pasta. The possibility of having these food items threatened in supply will be worrying for Nigeria’s rising population. Currently the average price of bread is N450, compared to N300 in 2019. The story is the same for many food items.
The crisis will also have longer-term effects on the fertiliser supply to Nigeria. The rise in natural gas price is a significant contributor. Fertiliser price has increased by 68 per cent Year-on-Year and 21 per cent since the crisis began. With the crisis and sanctions on Russia, there will be further shortages. The implications will be particularly in low-income countries with high demand for food. The price impacts could significantly reduce fertiliser use and result in poor local harvests during reduced global stocks and record global prices.
Russia is Nigeria’s key supplier, together with Canada. Nigeria imports 34 per cent of the raw materials needed to produce fertiliser. According to Comtrade, Russia exported 76 per cent of its potassium fertiliser and 31.2 per cent of nitrogenous fertiliser to Nigeria between 2018 and 2021. The dependence on these raw materials, plus the rise in gas prices, has contributed to the rise in fertiliser prices in Nigeria, currently by over 150 per cent. Therefore, the Russian invasion is expected to further worsen hunger due to food price hikes. The rising food prices put more burdens on Nigeria’s poor population, already struggling with stagnant income and deteriorating standard of living. The data shows that some significant hunger-contributing countries depend on food imports from Russia and Ukraine. Specifically, Nigeria’s undernourished population accounts for 28 per cent of hunger in Africa. This group of people is predominantly in the northern part of the country, where farming is the main activity and terrorism is hampering production. That means hunger and poverty are expected to rise in the immediate and medium-term, or as long as Russia and the West keep playing their game of chicken with an apparent response to credible threats.
It is true that no one knows the depth and how long the crisis will last. The responses by Russia show they are not ready to concede and withdraw from Ukraine despite the Western sanctions. The impact of the crisis is directly or indirectly felt across the globe. Nigeria has experienced two recessions between 2016 and 2020 and is not entirely out of the COVID crisis. Nigeria is also exposed to the risk and uncertainties arising from the Ukraine crisis. These challenges slow the country’s potential, making the policies ineffective.
Finally, a holistic food security approach is critical in ensuring food and nutrition outcomes remain a priority. Nigeria will have to redirect its current food crops demand to mitigate the impact of the food crisis. As the country that accounts for the highest percentage of hunger on the African continent, the demand for fertiliser, wheat, barley, and sunflower must be supplemented in the short term from other countries. In the longer term, the government should take full advantage of the African Continental Free-Trade Area (AfCFTA) to increase intra-African agrifood, industry and services trade to build resilience against external shocks and bring back on track Africa’s recovery from COVID. Doing so will reduce the dependence on non-continental imports and relieve the continent from external supply shocks that may lead to food crises.
Hey, 1stGenAmerican, how are you doing?
I noticed that you forgot to put a "Source" link in your insightful article post on "international trade, external shocks... and interdependency of nations on one another."
Japan to discuss cyberbullying laws after death of wrestler and 'Terrace House' star By Jessie Yeung and Yoko Wakatsuki, CNN May 26, 2020
(CNN)Japanese government officials are calling for action against cyberbullying, amid a national outpouring of grief after the death of professional wrestler and reality television star Hana Kimura.
Kimura, a cast member on the latest season of the Netflix show "Terrace House," died on Saturday at the age of 22, confirmed World Wonder Ring Stardom, the professional wrestling organization that represented Kimura.
"We are very sorry to report that our Hana Kimura has passed away," Stardom said in a statement. "Hana marched to the beat of her own drum. She was funny, charismatic and a truly kind person."
The organization didn't provide further information on her death, adding in a separate statement that "we are yet to grasp the details and continue to cooperate the investigation into the matter."
It also said it would "work on the emotional well-being of our players."
Shortly before her death was reported, Kimura posted a photo of herself with her cat on Instagram, with the caption, "I love you. Live a happy, long life. I'm sorry."
Fellow female wrestlers around the world took to social media after her death to pay tribute, express their condolences, and speak out against cyberbullying.
"There are no words that could possibly heal this wound," said UFC Hall of Famer and former WWE women's champion Ronda Rousey. "Cyberbullying is a very real and growing threat to us all as a society ... Even a straw's weight can be the one to break a camel's back."
"I didn't personally know Hana Kimura, but it's still very painful to learn about what happened," said the WWE's four-time women's world champion Bayley. "When it comes to cyberbullying - don't do it, don't partake in it, and do not respond to it...Stand for something better."
Other famous wrestlers who spoke out after Kimura's death include Mick Foley, Nia Jax, and Kelly Klein.
https://twitter.com/renoomokri/status/1544685395933380608?t=93ItSFcTLzE-p5yUux22kQ&s=19[/quote]He (Reno) is absolutely right! Obi's supporters are well-known on here with their monikers, and they are NOT from opposition party camps. What these guys have done is to transfer the ethnic bigotry and hate they used to exhibit while in the PDP down to the so-called Labor Party. A lot of intelligent folks in Nigeria and the Diaspora have NOTED these facts too. I've been on NL since 2005 and I know what is going on here!
So Peter cannot exonerate some of his rabid followers especially those of his ethnic group for harassing people. These guys do it blatantly without hiding it and they use well-known monikers on NL to insult and defame people. They even insult Islam and say bad things about Yoruba muslims and call Yorubas bastard . For the information of those ignorant folks who don't the Yorubas have the SECOND largest muslim population in Nigeria after the Hausa and Islam came into Yorubaland over 500 years ago from Mali Empire traders, hence the old Yoruba name "Esin Imale" to refer to Islam. Yoruba muslims have since the 1950s census been the LARGEST religious faith in Yorubaland. Followed by the Ifa religion or Yoruba religion in second place, and last was Christianity in the 1950s population census!
I also read insults on Yorubas who are muslims here by ethnic bigots that Hausa muslims do not see Yoruba muslims. This is another insult by especially the Ibos here and online because there are different sects in Islam and Yorubas and Hausas of the same sect flow together very well. I'm not a muslim but I have deep knowledge of Islamic history! You don't insult Yorubas who are muslims because they are a powerful voting block just like you have muslims in the Etsako/Auchi axis in Northern Edo State. It seems some ignorant ethnic jingoists do NOT even realise these facts!
So you folks have to be careful when marketing Peter and Labor Party, and desist from openly insulting others' religions, ethnicity and intelligence. You hve to be able to win folks over to your side by gentle persuation. This is the reason why other ethnicities usually fight back here because Ibos started these attacks, and there is a digital trail to prove this. Before Nairaland was established by @Seun in 2005, there were many pro-biafra websites online already indotrinating Ibos and spreading hate speech and I used to visit those websites to read the falsehoods they use to post there. The Internet NEVER forgets.
This is ridiculous... Abimbola's write up is absolutely patronising! She doesn't realise how serious the falsehood and hate speech is online. The whole thing has gotten worse since the 2014 and 2019 election cycles she is alluding to!
I once sent an email to 'Bimbo about another article where she was patronising again years ago. She has to learn to say things as they are and be fearless like I have always known her to be.
She'll soon be a victim of these online trolls in due course. Period.
Lanrelagboi: @ItsjustOlaa: This is what is coming to Yaba. The Yaba Bus Station (commissioned by @jidesanwoolu) exists already, the road will have a flyover into Tejuoso/Ojuelegba road .. The Train Station has an overpass to lead passengers direct to the bus from train.

Thumbs up mate! That's an awesome medical feat Abba-Ajji.
He looks like a Shuwa Arab (in terms of complexion)from Borno State.
Shuwas originally migrated from the Dafur Region in Northern Sudan and settled in the midst of the larger Kanuri/Kanembu a few centuries back. Shuwas are known as the "Black Arabs" and have mixed bloodlines with the indigenous Kanuris.
Parachoko: Nah on Nairaland you go talk your humble opinion, person go curse you and your family for airing your opinion. Then you will start wandering how your comment affected the person life.
You don tey for Nairaland o
I've been reading comments on Nairaland since 2011. I only check the FrontPage most of the time though.
I discovered Nairaland though Google search.
@Parachoko... . Well said.
Ah! I discovered NL via Google search in March 2005, coincidentally the very month @Seun launched it.
I frequented NigeriansInAmerica and other discussion fora back in the day before NL.
Yeah! Politics, Relationship and Culture topics are usually the most toxic online where ethnic bigotry, stalking and harassments take place.
In Nigeria, I want to see a minimum Naira fine equivalent to $2000 get paid (and a higher amount $5000 or more get paid) by the very irresponsible repeat offenders who blatantly demean and lie against other folks, even here on NL. Conversely, they should go to jail for 2 years with hard labor if they can't pay the fines.
As an NL veteran since 2005 (with an older monicker) when a lot of Diasporans frequented NL, I can confirm that things have degenerated here starting from the early 2010s, and the recently enacted Japanese cyberbullying law of 2022 gives much hope that we can fully take back the NL discussion forum and other online platforms from the narcissistic enemies, ethnic bigots and secessionists who were paid and sent here, and on various online to spread hate and distort history.
jimetagambo: Interestingly, that yob's dad liked a post supporting easy access to gun after the little kids (uvalde school) bodies wear torn apart and unrecognizable with bullets from an AR-15 rifle.
He even sponsored the killers gun permit application. I wonder how he feels now that his son is a mass murderer.
@jimetagambo,
Thanks for the screenshots.
Like the saying goes, you don't go throwing stones in glass houses.
There's a cause-and-effect situation in existence based on our thoughts, words, and actions. That yob's father is already being served what he cooked!
This is an opportunity to have an elevated look at the gun ownership laws again.
t2luv1: Not really only if people have been paying attention to what has been happening, All this can be traced to one thing. Election of Barack Obama!!!! I know some people won't believe this but as an Analyst, I deal with numbers, and number trends always serve as guides to what the future holds. In the history of the USA, two Presidents have ever won their elections with over 300 electoral votes. Roosevelt and Obama what really made Obama tally stands out were the facts that he won both times despite not getting more than 30% of the White votes both times. 28 and 25% to be exact. Obama election was the awaken call to the white population that the country's future demographic trends weren't going in their favor. To make matter worse the advent of technology made things even worse. No longer is high school education sufficient to put one in a middle class. All manufacturing jobs were been shipped to China. It has been a rough 15 years for the white population. The divide going on in the country I am afraid is going to get worse before it gets any better. Until certain parts of the Constitution are amended I am sorry to say it will remain like this. A constitution that was written in 1800 by men that were slave owners has to be changed to reflect the new realities of the 21st century. In a modern society, South Dakota and North Dakota with a combined population of less than 4 million shouldn't have more Senators than California with a population of over 40millions. More people live in the Borough of Brooklyn New York than in both Dakota states.
You have a strong point here.
Ray Dalio also hinted at the possibility of a major unrest or Civil War in the U.S. in a 2022 interview.
Remember this thread....... Aiden McCarthy, the little boy whose parents were said to have fled during the July 4 shooting by a suspect now in police custody, Robert Crimo.
Kevin and Irina McCarthy, his parents were indeed unlucky as they were killed. The boy was lifted from underneath his father during the attack in the Chicago suburb, which has left eight people dead and 46 injured.
Helpfromabove1: We need such laws in Nigeria nairaland bully go hear am
Absolutely! A lot of harassment, defamation of character, and fake news goes on recklessly within the Nigerian cyberspace... Twitter, FB, NL, etc.
I heard that something drastic is being done underground to make the owners of these online platforms in Nigeria more accountable for the actions of the users of those online platforms.
This move is very good as it would send a strong message to online trolls worldwide who spread hate speech to desist from insulting people.
As can be seen, this has led to Hana Kimura's death at just 22 years of age. She was a reality TV star who took her life in 2020 due to insults and bullying she received online!
"Japan Makes 'Online Insults' Punishable by 1 Year In Jail In Wake of Reality TV Star's Death"
By Jessie Yeung, Emiko Jozuka and Kathleen Benoza, CNN June 14, 2022
The bill was passed by the Upper House of Japan's parliament in Tokyo.
Tokyo (CNN) Japan's parliament on Monday passed legislation making "online insults" punishable by imprisonment amid rising public concern over cyberbullying sparked by the suicide of a reality television star who had faced social media abuse.
Under the amendment to the country's penal code -- set to take effect later this summer -- offenders convicted of online insults can be jailed for up to one year, or fined 300,000 yen (about $2,200).
It's a significant increase from the existing punishments of detention for fewer than 30 days and a fine of up to 10,000 yen ($75).
The bill proved controversial in the country, with opponents arguing it could impede free speech and criticism of those in power. However, supporters said the tougher legislation was needed to crack down on cyberbullying and online harassment.
It was only passed after a provision was added, ordering the law be re-examined three years after it goes into effect to gauge its impact on freedom of expression.
Under Japan's penal code, insults are defined as publicly demeaning someone's social standing without referring to specific facts about them or a specific action, according to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Justice. The crime is different to defamation, defined as publicly demeaning someone while pointing to specific facts.
Both are punishable under the law. Seiho Cho, a Japan-based criminal lawyer, warned that the revised law gave no classification of what constitutes an insult. "There needs to be a guideline that makes a distinction on what qualifies as an insult," Cho said. "For example, at the moment, even if someone calls the leader of Japan an idiot, then maybe under the revised law that could be classed as an insult."
Hana Kimura's death The issue of online harassment has gained prominence in the past few years, with growing calls for anti-cyberbullying laws after the death of professional wrestler and reality television star Hana Kimura.
Kimura, 22, who was known for her role in the Netflix show "Terrace House," died by suicide in 2020. The news triggered grief and shock nationwide, with many pointing to online abuse she had received from social media users in the months leading up to her death. Other cast members came forward to share their own experiences of online abuse.
Soon after her death, top Japanese officials addressed the danger of cyberbullying and pledged to speed up government discussions on relevant legislation.
Kimura's mother, former professional wrestler Kyoko Kimura, campaigned for stronger anti-cyberbullying laws after her daughter's death, and set up a non-profit organization called "Remember Hana" to raise awareness about cyberbullying.
Kyoko held a news conference after the parliament announced its decision on Monday, praising the new law.
"I want people to know that cyberbullying is a crime," she said, adding she hoped the amendment would lead to more detailed legislation.
