Farooq is largely correct here, but General Murtala Mohamed's biological father is of Berom origin in Jos South of Plateau State who converted to Islam and had to move to Kano because it was abominable to leave the traditional Berom religion.

His family members were interviewed by a newspaper in the early 2000s and they pointed to the portion of the family land belonging to Murtala's father. This looks more credible than the false Auchi origins article in Vanguard that Farooq made reference to.

Indeed Kano had a lot of Auchi, Ebira and Yoruba, Nupe, Bura, Kanuri immigrants, etc, especially the Muslims among them tended to blend faster with the Kano indigenes.

The late business mogul, Isiaku Rabi'u (father of the Forbes-listed dollar billionaire AbdulSamad Rabi'u of BUA Group) is originally from Auchi though they claim Kano. Aisha Yesufu was born in Kano in 1973, but people would have thought she was a Hausa from Kano if she hadn't granted interviews affirming her paternal and maternal ancestral roots to Auchi in Edo State.

It's very important for male children to always visit their paternal and maternal hometowns to get to know their roots!

Second, IBB and his first cousin General Abdulsalam Abubakar are indeed of Hausa origin who's ancestors migrated to the present
Niger State.

I also saw a documentary years back where the family members said clearly that their ancestry is Hausa. I nearly fell off my chair that night because prior to that, I always assumed that IBB was a Gbagyi and Gen. Abubakar was Nupe according to urban legends and news reports I read in the 1980s and 1990s.

Last but not least, I'm not surprised that Yar Adua is Tuareg because during the trans-Saharan trades Arabs, Libyans, Berber
Tuaregs, Fulahs, settled in Kano and some towns in the far North. Those Tuareg (Buzu in Hausa) lineages essentially got married
into Fulah and/or Hausa lineages just like Shuwa Arabs (whose migratory origins is in Northern Sudan), mingled with the Kanuris
and Kanembus in Nigeria and Chad.

EducationRe: 4 Most Controversial Aircraft Of All Time Including Boeing 737 Max by AlphaTaikun: 7:05pm On Apr 07, 2022
24hoursreporter:
Traveling by air is arguably the safest, but most dangerous means of transportation. It is safe and incidence seldom happens, compared to a road. However, when it happens, it is always very disastrous.

The aviation industry gives no room for 0.001 percent error. Such an infinitesimal error can be a great disaster. Nevertheless, I enjoy flying and I will not allow the fear of plane crash deprive me of flying. LOL…

Following the Ethiopian airline incident, that led to the death of 157 people ( Including 8 crew members), various social media platforms are awash with various news of the aviation industry. Well, in our case, we present to you the 4 most controversial aircraft (Passenger aircraft) of all time.

It is a common knowledge that regulatory agencies and airlines around the world have grounded the Boeing 737 Max airliner, including the US Federal Aviation Administration that grounded it on Wednesday 13th of March, 2019. Sadly, this is a bad market for Boeing. But the safety of aviation passengers is paramount.

The need to ground Boeing 737 Max became necessary after two of these jets crashed under similar situations within a matter of months. The Ethiopian airline crash has made Boeing 737 Max one of the most controversial aircraft of all time.

4 Most Controversial Aircraft Of All Time

De Havilland Comet

The de Havilland comet entered service in 1952. It was renowned for ushering in the age of jet-powered passenger flight. The jet came with great technological innovation and it was very fast, and sleek.

Who would’ve thought that such a great jet will fade at so easily, it did anyway. The airliner had several crashes. Some of the crashes were due to a design flaw with the wings, which was rectified.

Between 1953 to 1954, three different comets jet broke apart in the sky. This led to the grounding of the airliner by the British Government.

The de Havilland comet tried coming back to the industry, but it was too late, Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8 already took over the aviation industry as the jet-powered workhorses.

McDonnell Douglas DC-10

McDonnell Douglas DC-10 is a three-engine aircraft that entered the aviation industry in 1971. It came in then as a rival to Boeing 747 Jumbo jet. Sadly, DC-10 had a series of problems from the beginning.

It all started in 1972 when American Airlines flight 96 ( A new DC-10) made an emergency landing in Detroit after it lost cabin pressure because the cargo door of the plane blew off mid-air. No death was recorded in the incident, but some passengers and crew were injured.

Two years later (1974), Turkish Airline flight 981 ( Another DC-10) also suffered decompression because its cargo door blew off in mid-air. But this time, it was fatal and all 346 passengers and crew on board died when it nosedive into the French countryside.

DC-10 problem didn’t stop here. The airliner was finally grounded in 1979 after negligence of maintenance procedure led to one of the engines to fall off the wings American Airlines flight 191 while taking off from Chicago. It was a fatal incident, and 271 people on board were killed.

So, DC-10 is no longer used for scheduled passengers service, but cargo carriers like FedEx still use it.

Airbus A320

Airbus A320 actually brought Airbus to the limelight. It came into the industry in the mid-80s, but today, it is the second best selling airliner in history after Boeing 737.

This airliner comes with a high level of automation like its advanced fly by wire computer-assisted control system.

In 1988, a demonstration flight tailored towards promoting the capability of A320 went wrong. As the Air France Flight 296 crashed in the air, killing three of the passengers on board.

However, the plane recovered its reputation in the 3 decades after the incident. This particular airliner though controversial has people’s trust.

Boeing 737 Max

The Boeing 737 Max had a humble beginning in 2017 when it started carrying passengers. It was actually trouble free during its first 18 months in service.

But things started going wrong in 2018. On the 28th of October, Lion Air Flight JT610 ( a two-month-old Boeing 737 Max) crashed shortly after taking off from Jakarta, Indonesia, killing all 189 people on board.

Again, on the 10th of March, another new Boeing 737 Max crashed, and the incident happened a few minutes of take off. But this time, it was Ethiopian Airlines flight ET302, and 157 people lost their lives.

The DC-10 was an upgrade on the DC-9. I flew on a DC-10 though.

NOTE:
The Fokker-27 and Fokker-28
should be on the list because of some horendous plane crashes.

I flew on the Nigeria Airways
Fokker-28 back in the day and
one Fokker-28 crashed right in
Nigeria on November 28, 1983.

Those Russian passenger and
cargo planes too that drop from
the skies like stones should be
on this list. Antonov, Tupolev, etc. Lol.

Great post!... It brings back memories for
me flying onboard my first Nigeria Airways
aircraft in the 1970s through to the 1990s.
From the Fokker-27, DC-10, Airbus A-310...
and more!

Captain John Billy-Eko is late now, but he
was one of the iconic Nigeria Airways pilots
who flew the Boeing 747. He flew the only
operational Nigeria Airways Boeing 747
to Newyork in 1987 and got arrested for
smuggling hard drugs at the JFK Airport.
Captain J. Billy-Eko was originally a
Ghanaian. The media was abuzz in 1987
with stories about him and his picture of his
car that was parked at the MMIA car park was
published on the front page of some major
newspapers.

Captain Billy-Eko was one of the best
Boeing 747 pilots on earth.

Foreign AffairsRe: Russian Debt Default Is Now Very Likely After The US Blocked Payments by AlphaTaikun: 8:40am On Apr 07, 2022
plaindealer:
In your ill-informed and misguided world, do you think Russia doesn't want a weak, economically and military worthless NATO/US/EU?

Military and economic dominance between adversaries goes both ways. Putin can not force his neighbors to be his friend or cower under Russia's influence.

Putin's latest aggression is another reminder and reason in the region to hate Putin and Russia and even never to associate with Russia, people don't like brutes, bullies, and evil people.

You don't go around invading countries, butchering civilians, blowing up, and decimating other countries just because you have issues with NATO or other alliances.

NATO/EU/US and the rest of the world don't owe Russia anything, if Putin is feeling insecure, that's his problem, he has zero right to invade other countries.

After his latest foolery and dumb act, how many countries or which of his neighbors are willing to be his friend.?

Now, they all want to join NATO, they are buying weapons to protect themselves because they are afraid of the mad man next door, they want security guarantees from the West to protect their countries against the lunatic in Moscow.

Btw, your US and Mexico analogy is pointless and meaningless because the US is not Russia or Putin and the US and Mexico don't have the same kind of toxic relationship that Putin has with his neighbors.
True that!

The use of Hyperbaric weapons in
Ukraine by Russians and the covert threats to use nuclear weapons
by Russia are confirmations that
Putin-led Russia cannot be trusted by mankind in the medium to long-term.
RomanceRe: A Woman Comes Into A Man's Life For One Of These 6 Reasons. by AlphaTaikun: 11:28pm On Apr 06, 2022
LoveUdie:
1. TO TEMPT HIM
This lady is nothing but trouble, she comes with thrill and excitement that only leads to ruin. She will flirt with him, lead him to an affair, waste his time, cause him to mess up his future, his marriage, his responsibility as a father and his walk with God. She could be a married woman who teases him, on online friend, a work mate, the house help or an old connection. This kind of woman is a man's greatest threat and she is sexy and charming. A man should always be ready to stand guard against such. Don't flirt with temptation, the bruise and damage she causes takes years or a lifetime to undo

2. TO CHALLENGE HIM
This could either be a single lady that a single man pursues but can't have, a female colleague who works with a spirit of excellence, a female pastor, a female public figure, a female mentor or a competitor in business. This lady will directly or indirectly cause the man to step up. She will confront his negative masculinity, admire his positive masculinity, bring to his attention the areas he needs to grow, celebrate his success but let him know he can do more, keep him in check and model to him that a powerful woman is not a threat to a powerful man

3. TO USE HIM
This kind of lady is selfish and manipulative. She will use her sex appeal and beauty to get what she wants then she is on to the next man. She will want relationship benefits but not commit to a relationship. Even when she does commit to a relationship with him, she will keep telling him he doesn't do enough for her. She will keep him on the edge testing him. He will find her entertaining other men. She will make him feel like she is not fully interested. It will always be all about her and then she dumps him when the convenience is gone. She uses him either for money, favours, social status, fame, to make her ex jealous or to pass time. This is the kind who drives the man crazy and makes some men contemplate suicide.
She pits multiple men against each other and doesn't care for their emotions. She has destroyed the self esteem and identity of many men, has drained their finances and is the reason why so many men think "Women are gold diggers". Gentlemen, when love is not mutual, it is not worth it

4. TO BE A FRIEND
This lady is like a sister from another mother. Him and her can joke, laugh, be there for each other, "bully" each other in a loving way, support each other and be happy for each other's professional life, romantic life and family life. She is the kind of friend to have long term. But he needs to maintain boundaries with her lest she makes his wife/woman jealous or uncomfortable

5. TO TEACH HIM LOVE
This lady might date him, they might even plan a future together but their relationship will not last. She will bring to his attention how to treat a woman, how to communicate. She will help him realize that he actually can love a woman. She will bear the stress and drama of his issues as he grows to be a better man. She will cry because of him, get stressed because of him, all because he was not ready for a relationship but she will inspire him to do better. They will break up, either because he messes up or she messes up or they come to the conclusion that they are not meant to be together. The break up will be painful but after it, he will look back and reform. She is like the precursor before the real deal.

6. TO BE HIS WIFE
This lady will come into his life when he is ripe and ready for marriage and family. He will be grown enough to see her value, and responsible enough to protect her. Based on the journey he walked before she came, he will be better equipped and wiser to love her. She will bring out his greatness, be his companion and best friend. They will have such a strong bond. He will find himself safe and vulnerable with her. She will be his wife and bring out the husband in her. Intimacy will be special and he will walk with him towards fulfilling purpose. She is the woman who he will look at many years down the line and tell her "Thank God I found you", so you going to.... https://www.allsinglesandmarried.com

My brother what you said is nothing but the truth..
I can remember when I was serving in one of the northern states, I met a friend very lovely & caring, with a good home training and above all she has the fear of God or maybe I assumed she did. she's from the west, I won't call her name because she's a nauralander too.
it happened that she had a fiance who's based in lag who always calls her every minute of the day to know how she's doing, he was forming Mr loverman that has a faithful girlfriend. So me and this girl started getting along very well and she will always use every opportunity to remind me how she'll never ever cheat on her man throughout her service year and I'll just smile and wave it off while in my mind I was busy drawing a plan for her, because I sincerely don't like it when a girl makes mouth unecesarily on how faithful she can be. So unlike other guys she met in camp I never bothered to ask her out or bring anything romantic Into our discussion and this was part of the plan to get her. infact I avoided any discussion that leads to that, so because of that I was a very good guy to her, I gained her trust in fact she became my best friend then. so it happened that anytime I receive a call from other female friends of mine that are corpers or when they visit me I could sense this jealousy in her but I ignored it shaa till a point it became obvious that she's been caught up, she's now madly in love with me then I knew it was the perfect time for me to strike.. mehn to cut the long story short this girl that swore heaven and Earth that she'll never cheat on her guy became my sexmate .. I bang this girl like tomorrow no dey while her fiance at the other end was madly in love . at some point I felt pity for the guy.
the morale of the story is that if your gf is going for services chances are that she must surely nak no matter how faithful you think she is, if you can't withstand this ugly truth better give her red card before she leaves for service.
Lol... Brutally honest.

What the OP said is true, never date an undergraduate or a corper. If you want to risk it, marry them and let them be going to their school or PPA directly from your house.

There is this guy and girl during my Nysc in rivers state, they were fvucking each other on a regular, so suddenly, the LGI announced that the girl is about to get married and she is inviting her fellow corpers, those of use who know her very well was like, "Na wa o, this girl when them don fvck tire na another man wan still go marry"

I just pitied the man and said well, it's her luck.
I thought the fvucking will stop but could you believe that after the marriage, this babe came back to the village where I am serving and continued fvcking the corper guy, well she eventually became pregnant for this corper guy and was planning to go home to sleep with her husband in other for her to be able to lie to her husband in the future that the baby is his.

Lagos Island has a small landmass
so it's very important to have many mega multi-level car parks because of the traffic gridlocks caused by space constraints in the Central Business Districts of Lagos Island,
Ikoyi Island, Victoria Island, Lekki Peninsula, and Lagos Mainland.

The MMA2 in Ikeja has a multi-level

The political aspiration of ex-record label boss of Empire Mates Entertainment, EME,  Olubankole Wellington, popularly known by his stage name Banky W may have suffered a huge setback.

Controversies have continued to trail his declaration for the House of Reps seat representing Etin-Osa Federal constituency in the National Assembly under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Nigerians are questioning the rationale behind Banky W coming out under the platform of the PDP when in the recent past he has been a staunch antagonist of the Party.

On April 1st, Banky W took to his Twitter handle to announce that he would be aspiring to represent the good people of Etin-Osa Federal constituency in the National Assembly.

The announcement received heavy backlash from fans of the former songwriter on his choice of the PDP as the platform to actualize his ambitions.

A fan of Banky W, Mr Chuks says he was disappointed that the former musical artist could not stick to his said principles which he had always stated in any given opportunity how the APC and the PDP are the root causes of the problems faced by the Nation.

He recalled how in a recent interview with PUNCH.ng Banky W was quoted saying  “The battle in Nigeria is not between APC and PDP, it’s between the political class and everybody else because APC and PDP tend to be the same.

Their members are just jumping back and forth, and the parties don’t have ideologies per se, they are just platforms that people use to leapfrog into power."

Wondering what has changed since when he granted the interview late last year and now,  the fan challenged Banky W to come out to the public and explain when his own ideologies changed to blend with the ideologies of the PDP which he always condemned as a party of waste.

Another fan challenged Banky W to explain what value he added to his former party the Modern Democratic Party, MDP which he dumped for the PDP.

"Banky W is a disappointment to all the youths he claims to represent, here was a man that was brought to the political limelight by Modern Democratic Party, a political party founded in 2017 by a consortium of youth associations that pushed for the #NotTooYoungToRun bill.

They sponsored him and campaigned vigorously for him, he should come out and tell us the value he added to the party, this is a man that has failed in everything he puts his hands on, no wonder he could not manage his record label immediately after the exit of Wizkid.

A man that always preached that the PDP has no ideology is now rushing to join the PDP, he is lucky I am not a PDP member we could have pushed him out the same way he decided to announce his ambition on April Fools day via his Twitter handle, what a huge joke."

Perhaps the worse of the attacks came from his fellow celebrities on Instagram, "Anywhere breeze blow, you dey there. Today pastor, tomorrow artist, next tomorrow politician. ....Abeg we need real politicians, this is not a popularity contest, we are serious about our country Nigeria, ....." go to Instablog Naija for this full statement.

Meanwhile, PDP members are desperately kicking against his intrusion into the party, according to them Olubankole Wellington has never invested in the party anyway, they claim that such a personality like Banky W should have what he brings to the table but it is obvious his intent is to gain social media attention and rip off from the party.

"Does Banky W have what it takes to defeat the APC? Someone that has never stood for the party in any way just took to his social media page to announce his membership of the PDP and as if to add insult to injury he is telling the populace he wants to contest for the House of Reps.

This is not a contest for modelling or seeking musical talents to perform at musical concerts, this is about people with bright ideas that can bring the required paradigm shift from the kind of watery representation we currently have at Etin-Osa Federal Constituency.

When did he join our party and what value does he bring on board? As a musical icon, how has he used his voice to speak against the lackadaisical performance of the APC?

Our party's ticket is for people that are determined to bring the required changes and not mediocre who are seeking cheap popularity to reawaken their dead entertainment careers."

The fight for Etin-Osa Federal constituency would be a tough battle ahead as the current  Reps Member, Hon Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro of the APC is equally eyeing a second shot at the seat.

With growing pressure from PDP stakeholders to field only credible and dedicated party members to wrestle power from the APC, Banky W's ambition under the PDP may just be a tall order, however, the coming days would give us a clearer picture.
LMAO... 'Bankole was brutally
savage here.

@OP, you made some spelling errors 4 times in your post. It is
"Eti-Osa" Federal Constituency
NOT Etin-Osa(sic) with letter "n."

Eti-Osa is a well-known Yoruba name meaning "Lagoon bank
or edge."

1. Eti = Edge or bank.
2. Osa = Lagoon.

Hope this helps.

Muhammadu Buhari Doesn’t Bear His Father's Real Name — Farooq Kperogi

An associate professor in the United States and social critic, Farooq Kperogi, has stated that the personality of President Muhammadu Buhari seems controversial including the fact that he does not bear the real names of his father.

The scholar wrote extensively on how the President’s surname, Buhari, was not his father’s real name but a name derived from a particular town.

Kperogi added that Muhammadu Buhari’s father is called Adamu Bafallaje (or Bafalle in Hausa).

He wrote:

https://www.farooqkperogi.com/2021/08/top-5-lies-about-buhari-that-wont-go.html?m=1
Ah, cool... So Farooq is from Okuta (or Kperu in the Bariba or Baatonu language). The Okuta area was part of the Oyo Empire that had the
Fon, Bariba, Nupe, and other
Yoruba regions as vassals in a
Confederate arrangement.

Second, Buhari's mother has a mixed Hausa and Kanuri descent. His father Adamu Bafallaje (or Bafalle in Hausa) is a Fulah migrant from Niger Republic. This is the reason Buhari said while on a visit to Lagos State in 2021 that he has cousins in Niger Republic just like the Yorubas have relatives in the
Yoruba-speaking areas of Benin Republic.

Farooq gave some insights here
but he is largely "trying too hard"

Science/TechnologyRe: Peace Ojemeh’s Haze Monkey Finds A Home In The $80 Billion NFT Industry by AlphaTaikun: 10:52pm On Apr 05, 2022
techcabal21:
“Holy f*ck.”

That was what Beeple tweeted when “Everydays: The First 5,000 Days”, his non-fungible Token (NFT) art and the first purely digital work of art ever offered by a major auction house, was bought for $69 million at Christie’s in March last year. This event didn’t only make Beeple the third richest artist in the world, it ushered in the beginning of a new era for the art world.

While Beeple’s was the most expensive JPEG NFT format, profile-pic NFT (PPF)—NFTs that depict a portrait that can be used as a social media avatar—also hit some record-breaking milestones. For example, Crypto Punk NFTs that were given out for free in 2017 at launch started trading for prices between $480,000 and $1.25 million in January 2021 and, by the end of the year, they wouldn’t go for anything less than $4 million.

Though NFT has been around since 2014, 2021 was the pivotal year for this “novelty and strange” technology. It was the year it broke into the mainstream, disrupting the art world and waltzing its way into the hearts of almost every aspect of pop culture, from music to film to sports and literature.

While all of this was happening, a crop of young and curious African minds have also started to develop an appetite and build an NFT ecosystem on the continent. Although it felt—still feels—like a myth to the broader population, more people had started buying into it. Jacon Osinachi was well on his way to becoming the foremost NFT artist on the continent and, arguably, the world. Anthony Azekwoh would soon create and sell his first NFT “The Red Man”, one of the most popular NFT pieces out of Africa. Zimbabwean Nyasha Warambwa’s “We’ll Meet Again”, a digital art of late African-American entertainment and sports stars—DMX, Kobe Bryant, Aaliyah, Chadwick Boseman, Tupac Shakur, and Nipsey Hussle—would soon be picked up and displayed on a billboard in New York’s Times Square.

Somewhere in Abuja, Nigeria, is Peace Ojemeh 24, a Nigerian product designer and an Open Source advocate, who, like everybody else, is trying to understand the “insanity” around this technology, the reason anybody would spend millions of dollars on something intangible—something they might never touch physically.

While Ojemeh was still making sense of this, the original copy of “Disaster Girl”, a viral photo meme of a girl smirking as a fire roared behind her, sold for $500,000 (180 ETH at the time).

“Reading about Disaster girl, a meme I casually use in my WhatsApp chats with friends, selling for such a ridiculous amount of dollars, was an awakening. I just knew I had to get in on NFTs,” Ojemeh told TechCabal.

But judging from Ojemeh’s journey, this could have been all talk. That wasn’t the first time Ojemeh would get excited about crypto and its related ventures. In 2017 and 2018, she had planned to buy her first ethereum (ETH) but ended up not going through with it.

When she finally did something in the space, it was a disaster. She bought edcoin, a crypto token from a Nigerian blockchain company Edmark. She even convinced her mother and uncle to invest in it but a few months after, while ETH ballooned into over $1,000, Edcoin started dropping in value.

By 2020, it was obvious edcoin wasn’t going anywhere so she began to think of how to flip this seemingly bad investment into a lucrative one. She withdrew her investment from edcoin into ETH and then into e-gold and some other coins that yielded positives. This experience exposed her to the slippery world of crypto and the learnings from it shaped how she approaches crypto today.

Founding Haze Monkey Society
So instead of going right into NFTs after the “Disaster Girl” news, Ojemeh decided to learn about the industry, and invested in some NFTs to have access to their communities to understand how they function and are being managed. By the time she gathered enough knowledge, she reached out to her friend Alabo Briggs, 22, a blockchain engineer, about building their own NFT collection. Having done some work in NFT prior that time, Briggs got on board quickly.

With a bold ambition to build a strong and important community like Crypto Punk and Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) had built, the duo hit the ground running without looking back.

So, in August, while Pablo Stanley, one of the most respected product designers and doodlers in the world, was launching Robotos, a 10,000-robot NFT collection, and selling out, Ojemeh and Briggs started building a collection of stoned monkeys they would call Haze Monkey Society.

Haze Monkey Society was launched as a collection of 4,200 NFTs focused on building a no-code platform aimed at empowering NFT creators and artists and making an environmental impact in Africa.

“Because we didn’t want to reinvent the wheel, we needed to associate ourselves with a successful project while not being a complete replica. So with the success of BAYC, we chose to identify as monkeys,” said Ojemeh. “Haze indicates the weed-smoking culture among creatives. It’s also an inspiration behind our unique number: 420.”

A thoughtful roadmap
One of the things that determines the success of an NFT project is its community. And what makes a community thrive is the utilities, the benefits, that come from holding such NFT. Ojemeh and Briggs know this, and that’s why they spent a lot of time deliberating on their roadmap.

“We don’t want to just sell NFTs, we are keen on finding a way to provide value to Haze Monkey’s holders,” said Ojemeh, who also consults for the United Nations, the International Telecommunication Union, and the African Union on a project that exposes technology as a career path to girls across African countries.

Besides access to an exclusive social community, there are 3 major benefits on Haze Monkey’s roadmap. One of them is the no-code platform which Ojemeh said was born out of creating an environment where people don’t need deep tech knowledge to harness the blockchain technology.

The next one is the animation series about Haze Monkey’s unique stories where holders and community members will be characters. Lastly, the duo, having been born and bred in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, where petroleum exploration in the area continues to pollute their water and atmosphere, decided to include something personal to them: they want to plant 100 trees somewhere in Africa for every single NFT minted.

A learning curve that led to a new direction
About 10 days before Haze Monkey NFTs would start its public minting in February, the team behind the project launched a countdown campaign and daily Twitter space discussion, where the community would come together, ask questions, calculate the societal impact of the project and, most importantly, the fortune it promises.

The minting calendar had been set; the public minting price was set at 0.08 ETH at a maximum of 4 NFTs per address and the presale price for those who had been whitelisted after performing some tasks or winning giveaways was pegged at 0.06 ETH at a maximum of 2 NFTs.

In one of those Twitter Spaces, a community member with a monkey avatar and a Mexican accent asked what would happen if the collection did not sell out within the opening week. For a few seconds, there was silence and one could tell he’d ask an unexpected question. It was obvious the team hadn’t considered this.

“Well, the plan is to sell out, but in a situation where we don’t the community will decide what to do,” answered Ashlei, one of the US-based community managers who was moderating the space.

Before the countdown campaign started, Haze Monkey had gathered over 5,000 organic social followers and over 6,000 Discord community members from across the globe. The project had also been listed and verified on 7 of the largest NFT platforms—NFT Calendar, NFT Drop, NFT Evening, Coin Market Cap, Rarity, Next Drop, NFT Genie, and Rarity Sniper.

With this increasing traction at zero marketing budget, the possibility of not selling out was out of the question. But Haze Money did about 20%. Among other factors, this could be attributed to the recent scare of stolen NFTs that was happening on OpenSea, the biggest NFT marketplace in the world.

However, the slow movement couldn’t deter the team as they’ve quickly started looking for new strategies. They are currently iterating their roadmap to suite the new reality and as a result, the community has agreed to reduce the amount in circulation.

“As a request from the community, our genesis collection was cut down to 1,242 with a vision of releasing the rest over time,” Ojemeh told TechCabal.

She also mentioned that the community had initially agreed to cap volume at 1, 000, but because of how significant 420 is to the project and its weed-cultured monkeys, the number 1,242 was chosen.

Haze Monkey is now a collection of 1,242 NFTs.

Though built by Africans in Africa, Haze Monkey has already positioned itself as a global brand. In its Discord group, the project has about 5 different channels for people who can’t speak English. Its team members are also from across the world.

There is an increasing number of African women venturing into the NFT scene, minting and selling their own NFT, but there’s none building a collection of NFT at the scale that Ojemeh and her team are doing.

Ojemeh believes that as they continue to build on the genesis collection and iterate their roadmap to benefit their community, there’s nothing stopping Haze Monkey from becoming one of the most valuable NFTs in the $80 billion industry — and that their “holy f*ck” moment will soon come.

I never said we Yorubas "practiced this kind of intra-ethnic caste system stigmatisation". But when I, the Child of the Oba of Orun, walked by, the children of this earth are stigmatised because they all know their place is on earth.

We have a different sort of system to classify ourselves, is my point, though one can rise and fall within it. Slaves, after all could become king in Yoruba land.

Oh, and my Yoruba great great paternal grandmother was a slave from a neighbouring Yoruba town.
Right... @Budaatum,
Thanks for the historical feedback on your paternal great-great-grandmother who I believe lived

I've read autobiographies and advanced history books (on the 1800s Yoruba Civil Wars) since the early 1980s, so I absolutely agree with you about Yorubas being taken as war captives.

Some were later set free and returned to their hometowns. E.g.,
General Ogedengbe was taken as
a captive from Ijesaland in the
1800s by Ibadan army and taken to
Ibadan. He was also absorbed into the Ibadan army. Subsequently,
he returned to Ijesaland, and his military experience came in handy when he led the Ekiti Parapo
Confederate forces against the Ibadan army during the Kiriji Wars.

I have more clarity on what you

CareerRe: Tony Elumelu: The Sales Boy Turned Billionaire by AlphaTaikun: 10:46pm On Apr 04, 2022
gisthabit:
Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu is a Nigerian economist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is the chairman of Heirs Holdings, the United Bank for Africa, Transcorp and founder of The Tony Elumelu Foundation.

According to him, below is a brief story of his success on how he rose from the being a poor and hungry salesman to a business mogul and a billionaire as a result of hard work and luck.

In business, the role luck plays in success and personal achievement is rarely discussed. If luck is mentioned, it is done with slight condescension, and usually dismissed as a product of hard work, not deserving significant attention. While hard work is paramount – and I have written extensively about the importance of working hard – history and my own experiences show that there is often a large element of success that hard work alone can not explain. It is simply not true that “you make your own luck.”

I started my career as a salesman, a copier salesman to be specific, young, hungry, and hardworking, but the reality was that I was just one of the thousands of young Nigerian graduates, all eager to succeed. How did I get from there to where I am now? Of course, hard work, resilience, a long-term vision – but also luck.

A year after earning a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Lagos, I applied to join a new generation bank, Allstates Trust Bank. The bank’s one-page newspaper advertisement demanded a minimum of a Second Class Upper result, but I applied regardless, submitting a cover letter and filled out application with my Second Class Lower Economics result.

By a stroke of luck, my application was reviewed by the Chairman/CEO, a painstaking man who carefully read my cover letter and was drawn to the confidence in my words. “I know I may not have met the qualifying criteria for the advertised roles, but I am intelligent, driven, ambitious and I will make the bank proud. My Second Class Lower result does not demonstrate the full extent of my intelligence and ability, and I know I can do so much more.” He read those words and took a chance on me. Though “unqualified”, he decided to throw me a lifeline, an opportunity.

I was invited to join the shortlist, followed by a long series of interviews and even more tests. At the end of a very rigorous process, I received good news – I had a place as an entry-level analyst. Even now, I wonder: What if the Founder had not personally gone through my application? What if my application was rejected at the very beginning? What if I never got the opportunity to work at Allstates Trust Bank?

The story continues: Within 12 months at the bank, aged 27, I went from analyst to branch manager – the youngest ever bank branch manager at the time. I was hard working, energetic, creative and prioritised getting things done, but it was also good fortune that my bosses Toyin Akin-Johnson and Ebitimi Banigo took notice, and then, believed in me. They took a chance on me by appointing me as branch manager after an incredibly short time in the bank. They recognised in me the raw materials needed to make a good leader and were prepared to invest in me and my ability. My rise to Branch Manager within a short period is a great story but I know in my heart, I was lucky, as well as deserving.

This position of branch manager was a solid platform which launched me into several top leadership roles. When we, a small group of hungry, determined, young outsiders, took over struggling Crystal Bank, it was as a direct result of the preparedness and exposure that we received early from our superiors and mentors. Without the intervention and goodwill of these people in my career, I would not have been prepared to take on far greater roles. These learning opportunities laid the pathway to future achievements. To put simply, I was lucky enough to be identified and trusted so early on in my career, and this put me on a unique road to success. I keep this in mind – it is humbling and also drives much of what I do today.

When I left UBA as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in 2010 to pursue other interests, I made a vow that through the Tony Elumelu Foundation, I would “institutionalise” luck and democratise access to opportunities for young Africans. I promised to leverage the success I have enjoyed, to spread luck and hope, provide opportunities and to empower the next generation of African entrepreneurs to succeed. Without luck in my early career, I would not be the man that I am today. I am a leader and philanthropist today because I encountered people who gave me a chance early in my career. It has been a lifetime goal to pay this forward in a transformative and impactful way.

Over the past three decades I have spent as a banker, investor, and turnaround expert, I have had the opportunity to meet thousands of entrepreneurs, like me. Many of them are young people with incredible dreams and business ideas but without the experience or access to mentoring and support required to build successful businesses. But most importantly, they have not yet been exposed to the right opportunity.

Our entrepreneurs are hard at work across the continent, identifying gaps in the market for specific products and services, and bridging these gaps with their innovation and ingenuity. Yet, many of these budding entrepreneurs often lack the capital, the networks, the training, the support to take their small business to national or regional scale. All they need is a helping hand, some luck, someone to believe in them and take a chance on them.

This is what the Tony Elumelu Foundation offers: a platform that empowers African entrepreneurs with opportunities ranging from business management training to mentoring, to funding to networking – championing their cause and giving them a global voice to actualise their ambitions. This is precisely why I launched the USD$100 million Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme to empower the next generation of African entrepreneurs. Indeed, their businesses may become the next UBAs (United Bank for Africa).

So, when I am asked, “Tony, why are you and your family doing this? What is in it for you?” I smile and recount my own story of luck. Luck is real, it is powerful, and I am committed to spreading it as far as I can. I am a beneficiary of luck, and I am passionate about sharing it across the continent, to all 54 countries.
