I just signed up on nairaland today so I can just pour out my mind.
I have been coming to this site for almost a year now because this is where I get latest and trending news.
I live with my brother who cares about me a lot but he has been too strict with me. I FEEL CAGED! Can you imagine I don't have a Facebook account, I can't use WhatsApp, I don't even have a bank account. If someone wants to send me money, I usually use our neighbor's son account.
He monitors my calls and contact list.
I only use e-mail because he said I will be using it for future registrations.
I envy my friends a lot. I'm in my mid-teens.
I am just fed up.
@Atimjessy,

The Trade with Africa Business Summit convenes trade experts, policy makers, global business leaders driving trade with Africa

While the world is laser focused on the U.S. – China trade war something equally significant that will reshape the global landscape for the next 30 to 50 years is emerging in Africa. With the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) entering into force, there is a repositioning of the continent that disrupts the old way of engaging with its individual nations.

Power is being centralized in the African Union (AU) and those looking to enter commercially in the future would have to realign – should they seek to move with speed on their trade & investment agenda. Ignoring the African Union policies and structures in your long-range ‘African strategy‘ will be a missed opportunity. The African Union (AU) under AfCFTA has become a stronger negotiating trade bloc positioned to better serve Africa’s smaller countries. There is no doubt that the AU will play a much bigger role in the global landscape in years to come especially when it chooses to exert its influence on global matters.

External pressures on the continent is at an all-time low thanks to Covid-19, British Exit and Trump’s Presidency. Countries have turned inwards to face their own internal issues which has led to reduced foreign interference in African affairs. Africa’s leaders have used the opportunity to consolidate power and for the first time the continent has a window of opportunity to chart its own course by putting Africa’s own agenda center stage.

There are opportunities emerging on the continent but those who seek to engage must listen to the aspirations of Africans. Instead of creating artificial demands to sell products to Africa, tap into their quest. Listen to what African are trying to accomplish then offer your products and services as the ultimate solution. This would serve as win-win and is a more sustainable way of doing business. Afterall, if you seek to serve Africans as consumers of your products, understanding their pain-points should be your central focus.

Here are 5 ways that Africa will increasingly reshape and impact the global economic landscape:

Supply Chain disruption

The global buying community has been disrupted by the ongoing U.S. – China “trade war” and they are now seeking alternative sources of supply to realigning to for future purchases and deals. Africa has always been the originating source for raw commodities used by the rest of the world. From Cocoa in Cote D’Ivoire to Cashew from Nigeria to Gold in Ghana to Diamonds in the Congo the rest of the world has been powered by Africa’s resources. Africa is now seeking new and innovative ways to power itself with its own resources. In the future entire value chains and industries will emerge on the continent creating wealth for its people and those who choose to invest.

Agriculture

The missing link has always been Value Addition. With Africa owning 60% of the remaining arable land in the world, Agriculture initiatives would help create a brighter future for the region. Today Sustainable Agriculture conversations have heightened and investments in the Agriculture value chain is growing to ensure that Africa not only plays in the Cocoa business but in the Chocolate industry.

Technology Adoption

Africa does not have the same limitations in new technology adoption that the western world struggles with. The region will leapfrog into 5G ahead of the rest of the world. While other regions are seeking business cases for technology adoption, African countries are quickly taking these concepts mainstream. From drone technology adoption in Rwanda to Kenya leading the world in digital payments, these technological innovations would be adopted much faster in Africa which will create unique advantages for the rising young population.

Youth Workforce

Africa’s population is projected to double from 1.2 billion to 2.2 billion by 2050. While the rest of the world is struggling with an aging population, Africa’s youth population sits at 60-70% and will continue to grow. For example Nigeria is projected to become the world’s 3rd most populated country next to China and India by 2050. Its current population is estimated at 200 million. These figures will present opportunities and challenges; security and immigration challenges if not managed properly. Regions with current food insecurities would become more strained so it is in everyone’s interests to put plans in place and initiatives to drive productivity on the continent. If the region gets it right, the energy of the youth could be harnessed to power innovation and manufacturing.

Manufacturing Epicenter

Africa will become the manufacturing capital of the future. With labor cost going up in China and the saturation they are facing, Manufacturing has steadily began shifting to the region. Africa is centrally located geographically and well positioned to serve the world faster and cheaper. Also with the AfCFTA, manufacturing products on the continent for a growing and emerging middle class is a no brainer. For example, demands for baby products would rise as the projected population rises.

CelebritiesRe: How Olubadan's Daughter, Yinka Balogun Allegedly Breaks Amen Estate Owner's Home by AlphaTaikun: 8:59pm On Mar 20, 2022
Walecoy:
The last has not been heard of the tragic breakup of foremost Nigerian real estate couple Babatunde and Shade Gbadamosi of Amen Estate.
It's no longer news, that the former Lagos Gubernatorial candidate left his matrimonial in May 2021, over a series of infidelity allegations levelled against him.

However, the union ended when allegations of infidelity within and outside his abode keep filtering to his wife. We learnt the latter confronted him for explanation about his philandering moves within and outside the Lekki axis but to make the matter worst, BOG packed his luggages and left the matrimonial home.
Reports revealed that BOG left Amen Estate unprovoked by his wife but under the pretence that his movement were being monitored by his wife.
We also learnt that BOG was the one that initiated the divorce proceedings which the estranged wife, Shade reluctantly accepted before she discovered that he had already married one of the daughters of the new Olubadan of Ibadan, Senator Lekan Balogun.

To make the process hasty, BOG lied to his family that he has already put Yinka in a family way just to hasten the divorce process.
We learnt the lovebirds met on Facebook a few years ago with each one of them depending solely on what to gain out of the relationship.
We gathered that BOG went into the relationship to bolster his chance of becoming a force to reckon with in the political circle in the Southwestern part of the country, while Yinka, on her part believes her new catch solely owns Amen Estate.
In a twist of events, the marriage’s collapse unearthed the truth about the ownership of the popular Amen Estate located in the Lekki area of Lagos, which many believe solely belongs to the one time Lagos Governorship Aspirant.

Information at our disposal revealed that Gbadamosi was a mere ceremonial Chairman Executive Officer of the Company, which insinuated that he has no share whatsoever in the real estate establishment other than being the husband to the owner, Shade Gbadamosi.
Before now, Gbadamosi had always projected himself as the chairman and CEO of Redbrick Homes International Limited — a position his estranged wife, Shade now holds following their breakup.
Shade has since taken full control of the business and has been asserting her authority as the sole owner of Amen Estate.
An inside source disclosed to this medium that the estranged wife contributed to the tune of two billion naira to BOG's political ambition since its inception while he's still bent on blackmailing the innocent woman to continue bankrolling his new beau.

Recently, the new bride, Yinka goes ballistic on Facebook, throwing tantrums at Shade whom she thinks has cornered everything she was eyeing before her union with BOG.
Many of her followers rebuked her, calling her unprintable names and alleging that she was the main cause of the estranged couple's separation.
She has since deleted all the posts, but here are some of them as captured by our reporter.

Gosh! I thought Babatunde Gbadamosi originally owned

BusinessRe: International Women’s Day: Peterside’s Strategy Lessons For Women & Successful B by AlphaTaikun: 8:34pm On Mar 20, 2022
Walecoy:
In management and in life, a picture always speaks a thousand words. A few months ago, a curious photograph surfaced online. It was posted by the veteran investment banker himself to celebrate the institution he built. In the past four decades of reading autobiographies, I have learned that great men and women are defined by only three things – the indelible character they exude, the institutions they build and the quality of offspring or protégés they nurture. Atedo Peterside is one man who appears to have done well if anything, he has built a great institution and no one can reasonably argue with that!

In the monochrome photograph he posted about the founding team of three women and three men in the bank he founded in 1989, the bank that has now become the IBTC in today’s Stanbic IBTC, most of the viewers simply ‘liked’ it while a few others congratulated him and praised him for his business foresight.

An interesting young lady, however, took a discerning view of the simple photograph and commented ‘this picture screams of equality’. Indeed, that view resonates with some of the recent and ongoing empirical findings that our team at The Diversity Initiative have been reaching consistently about successful African corporations. Businesses that respect diversity simply outperforms businesses that don’t.

Perhaps not in the short-term, but in the long-term they do even if not in strict financial measures. A few months before the curious release by the doyen of Nigerian investment banking himself, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in conjunction with the Swiss Confederation State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, the Institute of Directors and ‘Women in Management and Business’ (WIMBIZ) released a working paper titled ‘Women on Boards in Nigeria’.

Apart from the generally low representation of women on boards in Nigeria, with the banking sector having one of the better performances, the other clear deduction from that report was that there wasn’t any direct positive linear relationship between women’s representation on boards and financial performance. Indeed, the correlation between women representation and financial performance is mixed based on many global and country empirical studies.

The caveat though is that the IFC report used only a five-year horizon, probably due to limited data. The second explanation to many of the empirical findings of women on boards is that women are not a homogenous group so simply assuming that there would be a correlation or indeed a causation between having increased women representation and financial performance may be presumptuous if not simplistic. There is a technique to optimising diversity and making the most of women in senior management and on boards, and Mr. Peterside’s single photograph shows us the three secrets.

First, diversity should never be at the risk of meritocracy or excellence. In Mr. Peterside’s photograph of six persons, every single one of those persons who are still alive today are still actively working, or involved in financial services today. Indeed, the three women in the picture, Sola David-Borha, Angela Omo-Dare and Yewande Muoyo spent the next two or three decades working with Mr. Peterside. All of them spent the rest of their banking career at IBTC: Yewande Muoyo leaving after over twenty years to join the Ogun State Government as Commissioner of Finance, Angela Omo-Dare staying on as either company secretary or head of legal services for another thirty years till she retired only last year in 2019, and the tireless, indomitable Sola David-Borha still waxing strong in the parent company Standard Bank in South Africa.

The beauty of that photograph is therefore not only that it speaks to the diversity mentality of Atedo Peterside in having a balanced team, but the futuristic power and hidden messages. Simply put, how do you keep three young and very bright women working with you at the highest levels for almost three decades till they retire, when few other financial institutions have done so in modern-day Nigeria. While there may be a twist of providence and happenstance to the IBTC story, there is still a clear management lesson.

Lesson 1: Pick a diverse team when starting your business, and pick them very wisely and based on merit. Pick people with a genuine passion for what you do and not gamblers nor speculators in the industry for the short-run.

The second lesson from the iconic photograph is a bit cryptic. Even though all of the founding persons in the IBTC management team swore by investment banking till retirement, and those alive are all still primarily involved in financial services, it is more curious that none of the other merchant banks or investment banks that existed at the time that photograph was taken exists today, apart from FCMB. At least not by name. No other merchant bank or investment bank in the pre-1990 era, safe FCMB, still has its name as part of a registered regional, national, or international bank in Nigeria today. Simply put, IBTC was the only merchant or investment bank that survived the 2005 holocaust of Nigerian banks. This is recognising the fact that FCMB had already taken the universal banking route by the time of the 2005 banking holocaust. Does having largely the same teamwork with a CEO for sixteen years guarantee longevity as it did for IBTC or superior performance. Well, there is no statistical model that can be used to validate that hypothesis.

However, what our emerging knowledge of organisational behavior suggests is that organisations with a stable, high-performing team over the long haul free up the CEO to focus on more strategic issues while the senior lieutenants focus on the tactical issues and put out the fires. If nothing else, the fact that IBTC is one of two investment banks of the pre-1990 era (and that includes all the merchant banks that ever existed in Nigeria between 1960 and 1990) and indeed the pre-2004 era, that is still alive today speaks volumes.

Indeed, evidence from the control banks, that is from other banks in our universe of banks, suggests that the banks that tended to have a lower tolerance for women in their senior management on the average have had a higher mortality rate or significantly higher rate of non-performing loans. While it may be invidious to mention the names of any financial institutions for reasons of prudence, a simple analysis of some of the larger banks in the pre-2004 era and their trajectory till date would provide the supporting evidence.

Lesson 2: It has been empirically proven that women tend to have more balanced views in times of crisis. Having a diverse management team may contribute to managing the risk-appetite of your institution and in some instances may contribute to the survival or longevity of your organisation.

On the whole, perhaps the greatest lesson from the Peterside photograph is about Atedo Peterside himself. In the reminiscences posted by Yewande Sadiku, a one-time Executive Director of StanbicIBTC and the current Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission, “At IBTC I found people whose private affairs and comments were consistent with their public statements. The Bank aspired not to be the most profitable bank, but an inspiration to the Nigerian youth”.Indeed, this public disclosure by Yewande who herself spent about two decades at the bank explains why a one-time CEO of Stanbic IBTC was once highlighted as the highest-paid CEO in Nigeria.

Only a naïve person would, of course, believe that in absolute terms, as that disclosure only tells us about the level of transparency in the bank Atedo built. The corollary of this finding is what age-old truths and received wisdom tell us about women. Most women primarily seek security and emotional safety, even in the workplace, and if you provide those for your female colleagues, all other things would be added unto you. It is informative that both the current CEO of Stanbic IBTC Holdings and Stanbic IBTC Bank have approximately spent almost three decades each.

That is almost all of their working life!!! The ability to be able to retain and keep top talent through the season, business cycles and vicissitudes of business is a leadership skill that Atedo Peterside in his humility may be too self-conscious to admit.

Separately, even though Stanbic IBTC is not measured among the eleven banks surveyed in the IFC Women on Boards in Nigeria, it is not surprising to us that based on our research at The Diversity Initiative, Stanbic IBTC together with Access Bank (that ranked consistently highest in the IFC Report terms of women representation on boards) are among the most gender-friendly financial institutions in Nigeria.

Lesson 3: Transparency and respect is the greatest team bonding exercise. You can’t fool your staff even if you fool your customers. Build a culture of respect and trust for a diverse team to stay with you over the long-haul and they’d save you the costs of rehiring. If your staffs are not staying with you over the long-haul, why should your customers believe you.

Atedo Peterside may have only shared a black-and-white monochrome photograph, but the lessons would remain with us in colour for several years. It is called the beauty of a single photograph.

As we celebrate sixty years of women in corporate Nigeria, it is imperative we begin to clearly understand the influence women bring to organisations that stand the test of time, and how best to tap the power of loyal women on senior management and on boards.

BusinessRe: Nigerian Who Bought London’s Second Largest International Airport by AlphaTaikun: 8:05pm On Mar 20, 2022
wolajumoke:
Up until February 2010, very few people had heard about Adebayo Ogunlesi. The Nigerian-born investment banker and money manager made international headlines when he led the acquisition of London’s Gatwick Airport from the British Airports Authority in a recorded £1.51 billion deal.

Adebayo Ogunlesi is the chairman and managing partner of Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), a New York-based independent private equity fund focused primarily on infrastructural investments, with over $5.6 billion under management. The acquisition instantly propelled Ogunlesi, 58, into the global spotlight and earned him a place in history as the man who acquired London’s second largest international airport.

The purchase of Gatwick Airport may have grabbed all the headlines, but GIP has some other noteworthy assets in its portfolio including a 75% stake in London City Airport, and Biffa Limited, a UK based waste management company.

Gatwick suffered deep losses over the years, and all the turnaround efforts made by its former managers, the British Airport Authority (BAA), failed to halt the downward spiral. In the first nine months of 2009, the airport reportedly recorded a pre-tax loss of over £780 million, prompting the British government to actively shop for buyers. BAA also reportedly lost £225 million on Gatwick after it was compelled to sell the airport by the Competition Commission.

While Ogunlesi’s acquisition might have brought him international acclaim and made him something of an overnight private equity rock star, pundits kept their fingers crossed to see what he will make out of the ailing airport.

But Ogunlesi believed strongly in the future of the airport so much that he invested some of his own personal funds into the acquisition. He promised to make Gatwick a truly first class international airline and substantially improve the customer experience. Judging from his antecedents, he is likely to deliver on those promises. In 2006, Ogunlesi had led the acquisition of London City Airport.

Immediately after its acquisition, Ogunlesi spearheaded a series of operational improvements aimed at boosting capacity and improving the operating offering and service quality.

Formidable footprints

Ogunlesi has had the good fortune of being born into a solid pedigree. His father was the first Nigerian-born professor of medicine and tutored at the country’s premier university, University of Ibadan. After attending the prestigious King’s College, Lagos, he went ahead to study philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford where he graduated at the top of his class, and later earned law and business degrees from Harvard. At Harvard, he was an outstanding student, becoming one of the first two editors of African descent to serve together on the influential Harvard Law Review.

After studying at Harvard, he took up a job as a clerk for the late American Supreme Court justice, Thurgood Marshall, serving at the court for 3 years- from 1980 till 1983. This effectively made Ogunlesi the first non-American ever to clerk at the U.S’ highest court.

In 1983, Ogunlesi enjoyed a brief stint at the New York Law firm, Cravath, Swaine & Moore as an associate, before taking up an appointment with First Boston, an investment bank.

At First Boston, he swiftly rose from the position of associate to managing director of the bank’s project-finance group. He spent a great deal of his time travelling through emerging market countries where he brokered high-powered deals among lenders, governments, and firms involved in mining, oil refineries and natural gas plants.

In 1997, the Credit Suisse Group acquired First Boston and subsequently renamed it Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB). Ogunlesi was still one of the institution’s most strategic managers, and by 2002, the new owners had appointed him as the managing director of the firm’s global investment banking division- one of the most influential subsidiaries of the group. Ogunlesi was in charge of a division that managed $2.8 billion in assets and employed over 1,200 investment bankers. His new appointment also earned him a seat on the bank’s board of directors and its influential 15-member operating committee.

However, the elevation was not without some challenges. Ogunlesi had to return the division back to profitability, considering that the previous year it had lost almost $1 billion. He adopted a lean, mean management style, firing 300 bankers and 50 senior executives within the first few weeks of his assumption. He persuaded the remaining staff to accept pay cuts and advocated for reduced operating expenses. Top bankers were required to relinquish the luxury of limousines in favour of taxis. But his cost-cutting measures worked magic. Within a year, the bank had returned to profitability and its revenue had risen by 25 percent.

An eye on Africa

Despite his long sojourn in Europe and America, Ogunlesi still manages to stay abreast of developments in Africa. He has helped champion the African economic renaissance and in 2009 was appointed non-executive chairman of the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), a financial institution set up to revamp Africa’s critical infrastructure and invest in key sectors of the continent’s economy. AFC, which was patterned after the International Finance Corporation (IFC) – the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, was a lead investor in the $240 million Main One submarine fibre optic cable that will expand telecommunications capacity in West Africa. AFC also led Africa’s participation in the $750 million syndicated lending facility to develop the landmark Ghanaian Jubilee Oil Field, one of West Africa’s largest deepwater offshore developments in over a decade.

In Nigeria, Ogunlesi is spearheading the corporation’s attempt to address the country’s epileptic power supply. In January 2011 it hosted a power sector roundtable to examine the key issues, identify the constraints and proffer practical solutions to the challenges facing Independent Power Plants (IPPs) in the country. Ogunlesi’s passion for his home country has seen him advising successive governments on fiscal policies, strategic management and economic development. He served as an informal adviser to former president Olusegun Obasanjo, and still consults for the country’s current government on occasion.

RomanceRe: Marriage Is Not For Everybody - By Wale Olajumoke by AlphaTaikun: 7:27pm On Mar 20, 2022
wolajumoke:
Every Saturdays, you see wedding ceremonies across the globe.
So much fun and excitement.
This is very good and lovely.

However, it is really alarming to see the rate of divorce all around us
My heart bleeds when I listen to the news or read newspaper in a day coming across the list of couples filing for divorce every day.

The truth is, God want people to marry and enjoy their home but MARRIAGE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE
Especially those who fall into the following category

1. Intolerance
Marriage is all about tolerating your partner. There is no partner that doesn’t have a weakness. In fact, those that people see as heroes have more weakness than others. You must identify such weakness and ask if you can cope with it before tying the knot. If you can’t tolerate your partner’s weakness, chances are the marriage won't last. If you can't tolerate people's inadequacy, you may see yourself moving from one breakup to another. If you can't forgive, marriage may not be for you

2. Feminism
God that created marriage chose the man as the head. If you believe you shouldn't submit to your husband. Then marriage is not for you. If you can't submit, you can as well remain single because such mindset will breed friction and will eventually end in divorce. You are meant to compliment each other not to compete

3. Competition
If you always want to compete with your friends and keep acquiring luxury especially when you don’t have the financial capacity, you will put your marriage under unnecessary pressure. Marriage requires contentment to survive. Marriage is not for those who are always using other people's lifestyle to measure theirs.

4. Lack of flexibility
There are certain behaviours and attitudes you have to change as part of the requirement for your marriage to work. You may be the type that doesn’t do house chores or do certain things that are of necessity. If you must marry, you need to have a rethink

5. Lack of self-control
Whatever you cannot solve as a single, marriage won’t solve it either. Deal with your weakness such as uncontrollable anger, sexual perversion, drug abuse and so on before considering marriage.

Emotional intelligence is a must for anyone considering marriage. It also requires high level of maturity spiritually, financially, physically, phychologically and other areas. Get over your past and any form of fear or inferiority complex before getting married.

Omo Western media doing everything to make Putin the aggressor.

If Putin wants the Ukraine president dead, why use private mercenary whose loyalty is to whom pays the most?

Why not use government spies that are extremely loyal to him and his government.

It's sad that someone wrote this news and even sadder that someone will read and believe it
No...

It's a Ukrainian-generated propaganda, passed on to the
Western media to publish.
TravelRe: Shackleston's Lost Ship, Endurance Found 106 Years After Disaster In Antarctica by AlphaTaikun: 2:50pm On Mar 20, 2022
Explorers:
The wreck of Sir Ernest Shackleton's ship Endurance has been found 107 years after it became trapped in sea ice and sank off the coast of Antarctica.

Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust said the wooden ship, which had not been seen since it went down in the Weddell Sea in 1915, was found at a depth of 9,868 feet (3,008 metres).

Remarkable footage of the wreck shows it has been astonishingly preserved, with the ship's wheel still intact and the name 'Endurance' still perfectly visible on the ship's stern.

The Endurance22 Expedition had set off from Cape Town, South Africa in February this year, a month after the 100th anniversary of Sir Ernest's death on a mission to locate it.

Endurance was found approximately four miles south of the position originally recorded by the ship's captain Frank Worsley, but within the search area defined by the expedition team before its departure from Cape Town.

would be to haul the boat up

CareerRe: The Best Career Book Every Person Should Read! by AlphaTaikun: 10:48am On Mar 20, 2022
bamasite2:
What is the best career book you have ever read?

For me, the best career book I have read and will recommend to anyone is : "So Good They Can't Ignore You" by Cal NewPort.

The book is very unique in various ways and I will recommend it to anyone who aspires to get a high paying job that they will also enjoy

It tears down the worn out myth of plain 'follow your passion' which is a worn out platitude.

First, it explain with proven scientific research and records why the advice of 'follow your passion is a dangerous advice'. This may not be a popular ideology, but the insight of this research presentation alone is worth all the money you will pay for the book. It leads you to the conclusion that you should do what Steve Jobs did, rather than do what he said on the follow your passion hypothesis.

It introduces another concept called 'the craftsman mindset' which is a superior mindset for getting the job you love, and then it teaches you how to become a true craftsman.

It examines the traits of a job that you enjoy!
What makes a job enjoyable? Have you ever pondered the answer to that question?
The answer to that alone is worth more than any amount you spend on getting the book!

Cal Newport explains how to develop yourself as an expert craftsman, and then he explains how to cash-in or transact that skill of a craftsman into the job you love!

Several real life case studies and interviews are presented and your understanding about getting a dream job can never be the same after reading this book.

If you have read it before, feel free to share your experience!

Good morning Esteemed members of this reputable forum.. I have a question.. Anyone who has been through Lekki - epe express would notice beautiful buildings with one very huge problem.. Discolored shingles.. It's just like a black patch that grows on the roofing.. From my research I got to know it is algae.

1. How can one avoid this?
2. Are there specific colours of shingles (roof tiles) that are more prone to these algae growth and discolouration
3. Does this have anything to do with ur inferior shingles?
4. How can this be avoided??

Attached to this post are pictures of what I am talking about.

I have gotten to the roofing stage on my build and I really wouldn't want to make any mistake!

Are you in love or just high on chemicals in your brain? Answer: Yes
By Sandee LaMotte, CNN
Updated 5:03 AM EST, Fri February 14, 2020

(CNN)We call it "falling in love," as if we have no control over how we topple into that dreamy state of emotional bliss.

But those sweetly warm feelings we connect to our heart are actually chemicals and hormones flooding an organ higher up -- our brain.

It starts with a crush
That first spark of attraction ignites a region buried deep inside the brain called the ventral tegmental area, or VTA. Recognizing a potential reward in the making, the VTA begins producing a chemical called dopamine, often called the "feel-good" neurotransmitter.

Dopamine also plays a role in movement, motivation, mental focus, psychosis, even the production of breast milk. But it's best known for its starring role in addiction -- and romance.

Jumping from neuron to neuron, dopamine travels an ancient avenue called the mesolimbic pathway, priming the brain to pay attention and react to expected rewards from food, drugs, hugs, sex or other equally pleasant actions.

This network is so ancient even worms and flies, which evolved about two billion years ago, have a similar reward highway in their primitive systems

A hop, skip and a neuron jump away is the nucleus accumbens, a round, flat structure which functions as the stimulus control center for the brain. It revs up production of dopamine, flooding your brain with enhanced feelings of bliss, euphoria and desire.

It doesn't take a matchmaker to see where this is going: Increasing levels of dopamine = euphoria and desire = greater attraction to the object of your affection. You're "high" on love, just as a drug addict is "high" on cocaine -- and you're going to want more and more.

Dare we say you're addicted?

During this growing obsession, the brain sends a signal to your adrenal gland, which manufactures adrenaline and norepinephrine, the chemicals that get your body ready to "fight" or decide to take "flight."

Silly lovestruck human. You thought it was your sweetheart that made you tremble, lose your appetite and get sweaty palms, not to mention that pitter-patter of your heart.

Then you lose your judgment

Have you ever wondered why your new love can do no wrong (at least at first)? Yup, that's all chemicals too. First, the brain on love deactivates the amygdala, which controls the perception of fear, anger and sadness.

No wonder we feel safe and secure with our loved one. No red flags here!

At the same time, the brain dampens the ability of our mid- and frontal cortex to use logic, criticize or think clearly. We literally suspend our ability to analyze and judge the object of our affection.

"Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind." That's William Shakespeare from "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

Then your brain wants to mate

Why would the brain set us up like this? So that we'll stay with someone long enough to procreate, of course. Our bodies are evolutionarily hard-wired to save our species.

Which leads us to the next level of your brain on love: attachment. All these things we've been talking about -- such as adrenaline and dopamine — are quick highs, designed to get us interested.

The brain seals the deal by releasing oxytocin, often called "the love hormone." It's a neuropeptide produced in the hypothalamus and secreted by the pituitary gland during times of intimacy, like hugging, breastfeeding and orgasm.

Studies show oxytocin strengthens social bonds in mammals, and intimate activities that trigger its release help couples create strong bonds.

So hugging, kissing and love-making are all things you can continue to do to keep your brain on love.

Whoa!

Welcome again to the world of dopamine and oxytocin.wink

The human animal has been
played for several centuries in
this three-dimensional world...grin

The inability to understand and
tame these 2 raging hormones
has led some emotionally broken younger and older women to become extremist online and offline feminists.

FamilyRe: Why The Attack On Feminism?(a Feminist Perspective) by AlphaTaikun:
ImaIma1:
The kind of feminism we see here is SINGLE ladies with animosity towards men. They rubbish the main aim of the feminism movement. They act like heartbroken and bitter people, always ready to spew and pounce on negativity about men.

They are at the fore front of the "men are scum" association. It's about hating men; usually very toxic in nature. Just recently a popular "men are scum" leader and feminist (Bianze) got married and it raised a lot of eyebrows.

These class of feminists are quick to denounce feminism when they finally find a man that scatters their brains with love.

Feminism is much more and very different from all of this, but that's what we get here.
@Imalma1,
You're wise and have an elavated
undertanding of what's going on. BALANCE is the keyword here!

Some of the extremist feminist
views are coming from those from broken homes or experienced
TRAUMA from broken romantic affairs, and they NEVER bonded with their fathers while growing
up. (The same can be said about violent, bossy and insecure young and older men who themselves may be on hard drugs or have seen their mothers experience verbal or domestic violence).

What the young women (and men) should be emphasizing here and offline is HUMANISM, self-love and respect for mankind.
