AngelicBeing:
The fear and tension alone when robbers invade your property will not make you do the right thing, haven't you heard of robbers pointing guns at people who are sleeping and tell them to cooperate or they blow their heads off, Nigeria is more like a country without security at the moment, what do you do as a home owner when you have 7 bad boys with AK-47 inside your living room pointed at you? and you have others waiting at different areas of your building?....
I was robbed under a similar situation. I laugh when people say I will shoot them, I will take them out. Just do your best in terms of securing your house and leave the rest to God.
I was asleep in the night, I head a sudden thump and cracking of glasses on my bedroom window and the next thing I saw a riffle pointed at my head on the bed and the burglary proof was removed like this in just about 2 kicks. If I had run, I could not have been faster than olododo, the metal inside the riffle. It even took me a few seconds to understand what was happening self. If I cooperated, I could survive, I did just that and I am alive to type this.
What could I have done differently? No matter how strong your burglary proof is, it enters the wall somewhere and that is the weak point. Very brave ones don't even bother with windows or doors, the create a hole on your wall and enter the house

Alibaba you are wrong.

What is wrong with you?when you were a student of Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma(Bensu then),you were squatting at the hostel and practically begging to feed.

Today you have blown up,and you are describing the wages of the Falcons as peanuts?talk of arrogance.

What did this Clown read again?Philosophy. And if not for the fact that God smiled on you,you would still have been philosophizing on the road side with Aristotle, and talking to yourself like a mad man.

Even Dangote has not referred to any body's money as peanuts, let alone somebody who for now,is getting fed and clothed by his well to do wife.

The Falcons have a right to ask for their wages, and I am in support of them, and for Alibaba,he should shut up.

Settled back to read Alibaba's comments again, and just noticed it was dripping with sarcasm.

I apologize Alibaba.
This is just sarcasm! He actually meant exactly the opposite of all he wrote.... Na wa oh.

I don't see this as a big issue because from an engineering point of view, it depends on how the hinges are positioned. And the door handle remains in position but sorta akward. Where I see the challenge is if where the door lands is not in same side as the hinges' position.
thank you very much for the response. Unitl now, I took where doors open to for granted, as I am a lay person. The question was asked on based on need. When the need arose, I suddenly discovered I have never seen an imported door that opens outside.
My building plan didn't include a door at the base of my staircase (from the siting room) but along the line we decided to include a door for security purposes.
To allow for opening of the door, the staircase behind must shift by about 1m to allow for door opening into the staircase base. If the straicase shifts by that much, it will become too steep for comfort.
The other option suggested was to allow the straicase to be and install a door that opens outside.
I have also noticed this too in very small bathrooms where the wash hand basin and the WC will not allow the door to open into the toilet.
So if it is theoretically possible, are such doors available in the market?

I would like to ask you why you don't consider using of Copper pipes for your hot water lines. I have seen people use this a lot.
is there any reason why you prefer the echo pipes to copper pipes?

in addition, I'm interested in the relative height of the overhead water storage tanks for this project. I can't see any yet. what plans do you have to ensure satisfactory pressure on the first floor?

Speed is still good oh. Unfortunately, I can't present an objective speed test but I use Skype a lot and my children too stream educational and entertaining cartoons. These two are still running fine. I've been afraid everyday to see the network return back to the dark ages.
Data plans were reviewed but they appear unreasonable to me, if they want to gain back all those who left them for Ntel, Smile etc, they should have more attractive data offers.

Good day house. Someone posted a toilet door issue here earlier and he needed doors that can open outside rather than inside. The only response she got was to consider aluminium doors that will be fabricated to open out.
I would still love to ask, aren't there foreign doors that open outside?

Following that mail. I got series of calls again from very courteous ladies from the Spectranet customers service assuring me that the network issues in my area have been addressed and I should try them.
I subscribed to the 4Gig for 3k and I was happy I did. I was on Skype for 2 hours without a break. I update all my outdated softwares.
is it possible my first love has come back home to me?
Or I am just being deceived to subscribe again so that they can break my heart with maximum impact?

I got a mail from Spectranet after I frankly told all their customer care offers that I had ported and I wasn't ready to waste money again. I also directed them to Nairaland to assess their popularity and appreciate the bashing on them here.
They kept telling that they had escalated my displeasure and complaints.

Preaching about Spectranet just a hype? I had never used an Internet service as fast a it. A friend from south Africa visited me once and updated two Iphones, a Macbook and an Ipad within a few minutes; all together. He had to ask me if I manufactured WiFi in my house ni.
It was quite good till they became powers and principalities, collecting monthly allocations without any work rendered.

I quite agree with you that one needs to pay for premium services. However, I think 5k for 5Gig is rather unreasonably expensive in the present day Nigeria.

I also forgot to add that one other evil with Spectranet is that if you allow your subscription to finish before you recharge your account, then you are OYO. What is wrong with them giving you access to their website to allow you recharge and subscribe? You have to look for another Internet source to do that.
I had sent several mails and called their customer service to tell their bosses to correct that but dem nor just send

We use swift 4g in my place (lagos) and these days since swift started this their double your data promotion, the internet hasn't been so good. But im sure its way better than spectranet. My issue with them now is that , in a day for like 2 hours i wont have any internet connection. And this occurs multiple times in a day. But between the hours of 1am and 7am, i get speeds of 1.3mbps which for some people its slow but in Nigeria here, thats really fast. I think their strategy is to find means of not allowing us to finish our data before it expires.
you got the drift, Bro. They give a gift you you cannot reject but cannot use at the same time!
This snail speed started with Spectranet when they started their own double data promo in December 2015-Jan2016. I for nor even worry but they keep pursuing me about with phone calls urging me to subscribe.

Although, others say its my location in jabi and they still experience high speed using ntel in other areas. You may wanna try them in ur area. But ask the staff first before you make purchase.

for now, am managing my etisalat.
from this, I can conclude that they are all born of the same mother and the law of diminishing returns catches up with them all.
But I'm shocked that MTEL will be having issues in some areas already, when dem launch self we diabetes eggs bag don de swell! na wa oh.
Charix made a very good point here, it is better for me to just stop chasing the shadows. When I abandoned Spectranet, I followed Smile. If I continue at this rate, will have a house filled with all sorts of useless Wifi. Maybe our destiny in Nigeria doesn't support broadband ni. Afterall, bros Okupe said we cannot use superfast trains because we are not ripe for that.
The annoying thing is that Spectranet keeps advertising with mouth watering unrelasitc bonuses. Some other people will fall prey too sha.
I shall just enter my shell and continue with my Etisalat jeje, not so fast, not so slow.

After switching round all mobile networks looking for fast and reliable data services, a friend introduced Spectranet to me in January 2015. It was the best Internet experience I've had since I was born. I was the king, I could do all I needed to do and the kids could stream their animations and educational videos. I was the most reliable when making Skype video calls. If you come to my house, I don't offer you water or drink, I give you wifi password.
Despite having just two bars of signal around Durumi area, I streamed videos like they were stored on my tablet or laptop.
suddenly I became an apostle to spectranet. In fact somebody in the central area nearly cursed me once on Facebook for praising spectranet. His honeymoon oerios was over! I never knew Spectranet has a honeymoon period for everybody and every area in Abuja.

My/our honeymoon period expired January 2016 when they started their double offer promo. From that time, despite my steady signal strength, I have been using about only 2 or 3 gig out of almost 40gig I have every month. It became so poor that as bad as Glo network was, I preferred Glo data cos spectranet would not even open a page on a browser talk less of using VOI calls or streaming videos.
If you need to open a website now, you better start boiling beans at the same time, you page will open when you are done from the kitchen.
I went round my area asking apither subscribers and they all have the same story to tell. I mailed their customer service and an engineer was sent to my house and area. He confirmed that their service was no longer optimised there just like those people in the central area .
I have tried on a few occasions to subscribe again but I ended up wasting money every time. I tried Smile too but their own data costs an arm and a leg.
my options now:
1. Unlock the wifi device for a more customer friendly broadband provider
2. To give out my wifi device for free.
3. Seems as if I will try NTEL oh

EgunMogaji:
I don't know and frankly I don't want to know because I'm spoilt.

I haven't had to worry about fake or genuine longer than some sellers have been alive. So instead I take my money to where the government and corporate brand assures me of genuine merchandise.

Government is not the problem, it's individual Nigerians that's the problem.

How do we fix it? I let my money speak for me.
I disagree with you on this boss. I blame the goverment and not individual. Since God created man, He discovered there is a magnet in his heart that attracts evil, for no particular reason. All tribes and races have the tendency to do evil but some environments have consequences of doing evil well spelt out and enforced.
Where I disagree is the fact that the government has got a lot blame here. If you remove the enforcement and sanctions in the western world, their markets too will be flooded with substandard products. I therefore believe that the government in Nigeria needs to work on defining standards and enforcing these on manufacturers and importers. An example is the iron rods market. This was not visited till houses were falling all over the country.
Until recently, the Nigerian markets were flooded with funny looking Iron rods for reinforcement. If you were given a length of Iron Y16 and you were asked to take a guess , you would say it is Y12 because that was what it looked and felt like. Our importers did that magic. There was a clamp down on the market and importers for few weeks and the situation improved a bit.
Therefore, if the government is willing, quality will improve irrespective of what the greedy importer or manufacturer wants.
We can however agree here! who enforces standards on behalf of the government? Individuals!

Sincerely, I would like to be spoilt like you; enter the market and get quality value for my money. It gives me a headache daily knowing I must ask for original everything I enter the market. Imagine.....fake electric cables, fake water self..

I love this thread too.
I never knew how important doors are until I visited a friend's buiding ptoject with my wife. When she looked at the doors they just brought in to be installed, she appreciated them.
She quickly reminded him that those doors looked like those in another friend's house. All it took to gain access to her house was just a boot kick to the door. We all laughed over it. When I returned the following day, the man had gone to change the main exit doors, each of the new ones costed him about 500k each. He said he didn't sleep all night; he was thinking about how he would live like a siting duck.
Doors are surely important.

I like this guy... making me laugh. I hope I am not late into answering this. There is nothing wrong in using used planks for decking.

When I was about to deck my project in December 2015, me and my Builder (Aventures) had to look for way to save money on the decking cost becos I am a poor man. Actually like you, I had to go back to my Grandfather's Cocoa farm in the village with cutlass and hoes to do some work and gather money, but still the money was not enough. So Aventures came out with the idea of renting the woods and bamboo for the decking... we saved over N250k from the cost. The planks and bamboos we used have been used before, we also used plastic laid on the planks to preserve the planks and also to make the deck slab come out good. After our use, the same planks can still be used about five times more.. because they were still in good shape and not bent either. After the deck cured, the carpenter came and removed his planks and bamboos to be reused. The Carpenter owns the wood and he will cut and nail them the better way for him and the project.
I also used recycle planks for the lintels on both ground floor and upper floors... It saved me quite a bit of money.
I believe in idea of recycling and conservation, so reusable of anything possible is what I like. In my previous project, its used once and dispose the planks and bamboos; shared to the residents around the areas for fire wood... this ideas is wasteful. Planks can be recycled.

So go ahead and use good used planks and bamboos for your decking/lintel project... it will save you money.

Note: All the monies in this Forum is controlled by EgunMogaji o, I have nothing to do with it... I am a kobo-kobo project man. smiley

now I can safely laugh in Swahili and run after correct carpenters. We much enter this house this year oh....

For those of us who are labourers locally, we need help!

what is wrong with using used planks for boarding reinforcements and even to deck a floor? The current cost of fresh good planks 1x12x1 can send us back to the villages to go pick hoes and cutlass to raise money before we come back town. At this rate, maybe I will need wait forever struggling to buy iron rods and planks. E don reach like 2 years wey a abandon my foundation oh...
Is it wrong to buy good used planks?

I Was trying to process certificate of occupancy for a plot of land in Nasarawwa state and I was asked to submit "Final Survey" along with all the other necessary documents as the State Geographical Information System Office.
I had a site plan which I showed them but they said it is different. In fact I was shown a booklet as an example of "Final Survey".
I went round all architects and builders I know, but they don't seem to understand what I was saying.
When I went back to the Land Processing office, they said they could get someone to handle it for me for 200k.
Please, does anyone know what exactly they want?
