Politics / Re: Democracy Day, Jonathan 1st year, How Is Power Supply In Your Area? by Amacaco: 9:15am On May 31, 2012
In my own part of Abakaliki where I live, power supply has since August 2011 moved from average of 2hrs daily to 18hrs daily. I hope they will still improve.meanwhile we still get bills far more than what we are actually consuming.

Religion / Re: I Abandoned Religion And God Today. I'm Free. by Amacaco: 1:11am On Apr 15, 2012
My friend, you never knew God and God also never knew you. That you chose to "abandon" Him does not make any difference to who God is and to his personality. That a cancer or HIV ridden patient refuses to believe in the efficacy of the drugs given to him or even to take those drugs (a right he can fully exercise)does not change anything, rather he is rapidly on the way to his grave. The fact that it is on nairaland that you researched in order to get your religious bearing strongly indicates how serious you were with your religion. One day we all will stand before the Almighty God to account for the single opportunity he gave to us to be saved.Because the scripture tells us that unto Him shall all men come. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God for GOD is a consuming fire.
Business / Re: Dangote To Invest $7Bn In Power & Petrochemicals In Nigeria In 3 Years by Amacaco: 3:38pm On Apr 10, 2012
I stay in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State and I am satisfied with Electricity supply in my own pat of the town. Between 2008 and July 2011, the average electricity supply was about 4hours per day. It became worse between February and July 2011 when it went down to about 2hrs per day. But the situation has changed since August 2011 as the power supply has remained at an average of 19hrs per day till today. If Dangote invests in power generation, I strongly believe power shortage will be a thing of the past if government does something in the area of distribution and maintenance of facilities.

Religion / Re: self-service Controversy: Pastors Blast Oyakhilome by Amacaco: 11:12am On Mar 01, 2012
So what we are being told today is that any evil or wrong habit not specifically mentioned in the new testament by the name it is known is not sin. So every christian can now take cocaine, heroine, cigarettes, traffic in women and children, money laundering, and all such criminal activities all of which are repugnant to human mind simply because the Bible or New Testament did not say anything about it. I used to think that the work of the Holy Spirit is to bring us into the knowledge of all truth. The Spirit makes the letters of the Bible active and alive and brings us to appreciate the full meaning of God's word even in all generations. Let the Spirit of God direct us in our understanding of the bible instead of interpreting it like a Law Book or an Act of the National Assembly.
Politics / Re: I Did Not Plead Guilty –ibori by Amacaco: 9:35am On Mar 01, 2012
@Gbame : Your question is apt and to the point. No one is prosecuted for acquiring his wealth legally. Only illegally acquired money from corruption, drug trafficking, robbery, kidnapping, terrorism and other outlawed businesses can be laundered to make them have the semblance of legality. It is this class of illegal wealth and money that can be prosecuted as money laundering. So, if Ibori and people like him are prosecuted and convicted, it is an indirect way of proving they got their wealth illegally and most likely from government. Pleading guilty to money laundering charges is an indirect way of pleading guilty to corruption charges. QED.
Family / Re: Denying Husbands Brothers/cousins Their Said "conjugal Rights" by Amacaco: 9:38pm On Feb 21, 2012
Issues relating to inheritance are governed by law in Nigeria. It is called the Law of Succession and inheritance. The rights of spouses to each other's property after death are determined by the status of their marriage before death. Succession and inheritance for marriages contracted under English Law or the Marriage Act are governed by English law in which case the Wife is entitled fully to the property of her husband before Children and other brothers and sisters of the deceased. Where they were married under Islamic laws, that law is used to determine the right to inherit. But in circumstances where they were married under customary law, the customary law of the man comes into play. Customary laws vary from place to place and need to be specifically proved in court.
In matrilineal Societies as opposed to patrilineal, the property of a dead man rightfully and by law belongs to the brothers and sisters of the deceased. Similarly, the properties of a deceased woman belongs to her relatives and not her husband unless the person has made a will before his death. This is so in Matrilineal Communities like Abriba, Nkporo, Ohafia (all in Abia State), as well as Edda, Afikpo, Amasiri in Ebonyi State. Such matrilineal system also exist in some parts of South Africa. No court has declared such custom as repugnant to natural justice as at today. Today men who want to avoid the strict application of that customary law can make wills, give gifts to their wife and children while alive, buy properties in the name of their spouses, or invest heavily in the education and establishment of their children.

Politics / Re: What Has Martin Elechi Achieved in Ebonyi state? by Amacaco: 2:41pm On Feb 15, 2012
I am from Ebonyi State and presently live in the State Capital. So much has been said or written about the present Administration in the state. While some of these comments are true, others are nothing but falsehood and misinformation. The true position could be stated as follows

1. Ebonyi State receives the second lowest allocation from the Federation Account.
2. The Government embarked on several capital intensive and multi-billion naira projects which are well beyond the resources of the state and as a result most of these projects have remained uncompleted till today.
3. Some of these gigantic projects which are still on-going are: A model State Secretariat in Ochudo City. 3 of the 11 three-storey building are up to 65% completion stage, Oferekpe Mega water Scheme which is one of two water Schemes in Ebonyi State and these projects can supply water to the whole State when completed, Ebonyi State ultra-modern international Market occupying 48 hectares of land with 5300 stalls, fire service, police station and banks-55% completed, Dualisation of the Enugu/ Abakaliki Road starting from the NNPC Mega Station to Ogoja Road- 60% complete. Work is also going on on two other multi billion projects started by the former Administration of Sam Egwu.
4. Some of the projects have since been completed many of which include roads, bridges  at Edda, Idembia Ezza, Ebyia etc. Ebonyi Pilot Schools project involving the building and rehabilitation of 30 secondary schools in the state, Cancer Screening center Abakaliki,Ebonyi State ultra modern Staff Development Center, A state of the art Digital Radio and Television Station which is said to be the best of Government Stations in South East Nigeria, EBSUTH Medical ward complex, 3 Model Rice Mill Plant at Iboko, Oso and one other LGA  I cannot remember now. There are numerous other projects both completed and uncompleted  which the Government has undertaken which if completed will impact greatly on the people. The problem is that if care is not taken many of them may not be completed.

It is necessary to say however that the Governor  has not paid serious attention to his workforce and Labour in the State. There is no love lost between the two. He has always treated Labour in the State with disdain since he came to power in 2007 because they welcomed him with Strike one-month after he took over in 2007. Some of his party members are not happy that he has not made any changes to his appointees especially at the Development Centers since five years ago and as a result denied them their opportunity of having their own share of the government cake. Others accuse him of favouring only his children in major contracts. Many Civil servants feel also he has blocked their avenues of making money while favouring his Children.Worst of all his PR is very poor hence the several true and untrue allegations against him. I think he should listen to his people instead of the I dont care attitude he has right now.
Politics / Re: Nigeria’s Ex-leader, Buhari Ejected Over Unpaid N20m Rent by Amacaco: 6:28pm On Feb 14, 2012
If he does not have money to pay for his rent, it simply means he did not invest in all his years as a public officer both in the army and politics. He does not need to loot public funds before he can properly invest and save for the rainy latter years.  If  as an individual and in his private life he could not invest and manage  properly his business where Nigerians could be employed, how then does he expect us to trust him to manage Nigeria and its resources well? So many Nigerians who have never graciously been opportuned to be in Public office like him have out of hard work made tremendous impact in their private businesses and can pay their house rent.   He should look for a job now before he starts going Hungry.

Who is deceiving who? I thought as a former President he receives pension which is worth millions of Naira annually. I also thought he has so many friends which he made over the years including some nairalanders who love him so much and can afford to pay for him without his asking or begging for it. One thing that is clear from this is that he knows his priorities and decided to put them right. It is not that he cannot pay. It simply means he does not need it and that is a good decision. He is not different from the others.
Politics / Re: Senator Obadara Calls For Diezani Allison-madueke's Resignation by Amacaco: 5:13pm On Feb 08, 2012
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo was in charge of Petroleum some years back when most of the directives that were given to NNPC, Central Bank, Ministry of Finance and Customs on importation of petroleum  products were given as revealed by these investigations. These directives gave room for the huge corruption we have seen in the NNPC and Petroleum sector today. Several investigations into NNPC and the sector were conducted by the House of Representatives during the period, but neither Obasanjo nor Obaseki the Head of NNPC or his successor ever resigned during these investigations and everyone of us kept quiet. I used to think that what is good for the geese is also good for the gander or is Deziani's own different.
Religion / Re: Tithes, Offerings And First Fruits - Do They Apply To Us As Christians? by Amacaco: 11:47pm On Feb 06, 2012
Jesus once told the pharisees and Saducees that they were in error because they do not know the scriptures. even though the pharisees and  saducees were religious leaders they though they knew the scriptures so well and more than others. That assumption made them grossly ignorant of spiritual issues which they claim to know. That is exactly what we have seen from the  kind of comments people  have made on this topic. I will like to quote from a chapter on tithing in a book I wrote some time ago
"So much controversy have been generated these days as to the importance and relevance of tithes in worship today in view of the fact that it was a requirement of the law in the former dispensation and that there is no evidence to show that the early church or believers in the New Testament were made to pay tithes. It is further argued that those institutions such as the Levites and priests who received the tithes under the Old Testament no longer exist as a result of the accomplished work of Christ on the cross. Others further insist that payment of tithe is a big burden on the church members, many of whom are poor and are finding it difficult to make ends meet. The point is also made that if believers are to pay anything at all, there should be no rigidity as to the proportion of one’s income to be paid and that whoever would want to pay more than one-tenth should do so while those willing to pay less than one tenth should exercise similar freedom as well. These arguments and issues therefore raise the question of whether tithing is necessary and relevant in the New Testament.
The point must be made here that the principle of tithing continued in the New Testament as it still formed part of Jewish and Christian worship. As we have already seen, tithing existed before the law was introduced under Moses. Abraham tithed because as a man of faith and friend of God, he knew the will of God and what it means to do what is right and just, and showed his willingness to please him. He did pass on this teaching of tithe payment to his children and grand children because he had been chosen, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for him what he has promised . Abraham the father of faith, who is recorded in the bible as the first person to pay tithe is the father of all those who, in the New Testament, have believed in God through Christ.  So having been justified by faith in Christ we have become sons of God through this faith in Christ Jesus and if we belong to Christ, then we are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.  As children of Abraham, Christians should learn to tithe as Abraham did and taught his children to do.
Secondly, before and under the law, these offerings and tithes were made to God and to him alone while the Levites and priests who received them did so on his behalf. With particular reference to tithes, God declared
"A tithe of every thing from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord".

If God therefore appropriates to himself, rightfully and justifiably too, only one tenth of what he has given to us, why should any person complain? Moreover, there is no part of the scriptures that says he is no longer interested in our tithes and that he has abrogated this requirement. Our Lord Jesus Christ declared that we should not think that he has come to abolish the law or the prophets, rather he has come to fulfil them.   Jesus came to perfect the law of which tithing was one of them. Jesus supported it and said it should not be neglected . However, payment of tithe or adherence to it should not be at the expense of other important issues relevant to our faith and relationship with others, which includes justice, mercy and faithfulness. The two must go together.
"Woe to you; teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices- mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law- justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practised the latter without neglecting the former." Matthew 23:23
According to D. Also Brook,
Someone has said that Abraham commenced it, Moses commanded it, Jesus commended it, so who are we to cancel it

Thirdly, the Levites and the priests received these tithes on God’s behalf for the work they were called to do in the household of God. They had no inheritance in Israel, as God was their inheritance.   In very simple language, God paid the salary, wages and allowances of his workers from these tithes and offerings. While the Levites performed auxiliary ministry for the priests, looking after the tabernacle and
later the temple, the priest chosen from the Levites had the responsibility of serving in
the sanctuary by offering sacrifices and conducting worship, teaching the people the law and uttering oracles from the Lord. “Aaron and his children after him were chosen as priests and set apart by God to consecrate the most holy things, to offer sacrifices before the Lord, to minister before him and to pronounce blessings in his name for ever.”  Their work was, geographically speaking, limited only to the nation Israel. In the New Testament however, a new and different generation of Levites and priests with a responsibility wider in scope, content and quality came into existence. Jesus told his disciples that they would do greater work than he himself had done while on earth.  Apostle Peter called these generation of Levites and priests  “ a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God…”  and they are to declare the praises of him who called them out of darkness into his wonderful light. God has by the death of Christ reconciled the church to himself and given it the ministry of reconciliation.  Therefore the nature of the work of the church today as Christ’s ambassadors, is to preach this gospel of reconciliation to the world. To this chosen people and new priesthood, Christ assigned the work of going to make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything he has commanded them.  This work was to start in Jerusalem and get to the end of the world.  The point being made here is that even under the New Testament the work of God did not cease but increased in nature, quality, message, scope, geographical area and urgency. The work requires more labourers than was the case with the priestly and Levitical order. And to those to do this work he said
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. Do not take along any gold, or silver, or copper in your belts; take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep.
Because he knows the need to maintain this great army of Levites and priests in the New Testament church, he therefore commanded that those who preach the gospel should eat from the gospel.  So he has assigned the tithes and offerings that are made to him to the church which is his body and representative on earth. In the church are the apostles, ministers, pastors, evangelists, prophets, missionaries, teachers, church workers and many other preachers of the gospel who like the priests from the tribe of Levi are called of God fully into his service. So also do we have the poor and the needy in the churches that in the Old Testament were also taken care of from the tithes.
Fourthly, even under the Old Testament, there were several other kinds of offerings made to God and neither of these offerings took the place of tithes. In the same way, our payment of tithes cannot stop anyone from giving other offerings even more than ten percent of his income to God as a freewill offering and neither should these offerings take the place of tithe which God has specifically appropriated to himself out of our income. The compulsory offerings and sacrifices never took the place of other offerings in the Old Testament and neither do they take their place today. That was why God told the Israelites
These offerings are in addition to those for the Lord’s Sabbaths and in addition to your gifts and whatever you have vowed and all the freewill offerings you give to the Lord.
Several other Christian writers have commented upon the importance and relevance of tithing. W.F. Kumuyi concludes
The doctrine and principle of tithing is timeless. Tithing was not only an Old Testament principle and practice. It is for everyone in every age and dispensation. It was neither instituted by the dispensation of law nor terminated by the dispensation of grace. It was neither given by Moses, nor abrogated by Jesus Christ."

Pls I do not throw abuses. I am decent enough to do that.

poster@logica Oops. Ever heard of FoI?

The freedom of Information Act makes it easier for journalists, reporters and any other person to obtain information and use the information so obtained responsibly. It does not require any public official rightfully or wrongly accused of wrongdoing to mandatorily supply the information in order to defend himself. I believe that Sahara Reporters have obtained their information already and so easily because of the FOI Act. Otherwise they could not have gone further to make their publication as that will be callous. All I am saying is that they should publish the Lists which they already have and which informed their rushing to the print. Anything short of that is fishing for information from an accused person.

The onus is on the accuser to prove his case and not on the accused to prove his innocence. Sahara Reporters should release the official List of both delegations so that readers can compare and Know who is telling the truth. The Presidency is not bound whatsoever to release the list of its delegations to any meeting even if 200 Sahara Reporters so demand. Let us see your lists and we can ask the FG to comment.
Politics / Re: Nigeria Consumes 33 Million Litres Of Fuel Daily: Check Out This Calculation Pls by Amacaco: 6:53pm On Jan 26, 2012
The duo of Ngozi Iweala and Dieziani are claiming respectively that we  consume 35 million litres and 59 million litres of fuel on daily basis. Now what this means is that over one hundred thousand tankers will be lifting fuel every day with each state getting not less than 2,500 tankers on daily basis.a tanker loads a maximum of about 33 thousand litres of fuel each. This also means that as over hundred tankers are taking off from depot today another one hundred and something thousand tankers will be there now waiting to lift the one of tomrrow. It continues like that until the previous one hundred thousand tankers off loads and returns to depot.  How real does this rooster and bull story sound?

if one is to do your calculation properly, I think it will run like this:
No of litres consumed per day- 59,000,000 litres
No of Litres per tanker- 33,000 litres
No of tankers of fuel per day- 1788 tankers(approx)
No of LG areas in Nigeria      - 774
Average delivery for each LGA-  2.31  Tankers

How many filling stations are on the average in each Local Government Area? Based on the above, it is not likely the two Ministers are telling "rooster and bull story"

What worries me about all these Wikileaks revealations is the way and manner public officers in this country open their mouth so wide and talk whatever comes to their mind to the US Ambassadors and foreign officials even on issues that border on our national security. Don't we have secrets in this country? Are they no laws controlling what public officers say to foreigners even over dinner, or lunch or cup of tea. i think they should be a check on this kind of freedom of speech.
Religion / Re: Is It True? Churches Asking You To Surrender Your Entire January Salary? by Amacaco: 6:30pm On Jan 11, 2011
The principle of first fruits, like the tithes are biblical as already explained by some people here. The principle of giving of all forms of offering must however be clearly understood by those who give and those who enjoy criticizing without giving. In the  first place, all offerings including first fruits and tithes are made to God and GOD alone. Without this at the back of your mind, you will find it difficult to give in the church or even to any human being as it will become burdensome and most times self centered in its motive. After all  outside Christ we do not owe anything to any pastor or church leader. Secondly, payment of first fruits, tithes and other offerings are and must be voluntary in the new testament church. In the Old testament, these offerings were part of the commandments and keeping these commandments was their righteousness. Today, payment of these Offerings is not our righteousness but Christ is our Righteousness as the work of Salvation has been completed. But giving of these offerings draw down the blessings  of God for such a person because Christ had said that it is more Blessed to Give than to receive. Many of those  who criticize the church and pastors on this give their salaries to their girl friends or even native doctors and juju priests for protection and charms. others waste the salary at the Beer Parlor. So why can a faithful christian not give his salary to God for the Cause of the Gospel. Do not give if it is not in faith and stop criticizing what you do not understand. God will bless you if you do so.
Politics / Re: Goodluck Jonathan: "I Dont Have Good Political Experience" by Amacaco: 10:07am On Dec 10, 2010
GEJ did not get to the position he is now because he has "good political experience" or he was the best choice at the time. He is here now because GOD in his infinite Mercy and Grace chose him to be the President of Nigeria today. GEJ is conscious of this fact and said so humbly and honestly. When God chooses a leader, experience no longer counts because He is the experience you need. In addition, all the so-called "experienced" leaders we have seen at all levels of Government in this country, have failed to deliver and improve the well-being of the people. Rather, they have impoverished our people and siphoned our money to foreign lands. What we need is a God fearing Leader and not a leader with "Good Political experience".
Religion / Re: Why Did God Have To ''Kill His Son''? by Amacaco: 7:45pm On Oct 28, 2010
T he bible records in 1 Corinthians 1:18 that the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness but unto them that are called, it is the power of God. In 1 Corinthians 2: 14, the bible says that the man without the Spirit of God does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God for they are foolishness to him and he cannot understand them because they are spiritually discerned. so if you do understand why God had to send His Son in order to forgive you, I am not surprised. God is a just God and sin must be punished. Christ took the punishment for you.
