At the age of 24, Tochukwu Akaolisa was not satisfied with what he was able to achieve since he relocated to Lagos in 2009. In his quest to get rich quick, he conspired with three others to divert a container load of electronic goods worth N15million belonging to his employer, Mr. Innocent Akaolisa who is also his paternal uncle. He, however, ran out of luck when operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Zone 2 police command, Onikan, Lagos, tracked them down and arrested him and three others. Others that were arrested are Nnanna Nwachukwu, Monday Aigbe and Udochukwu Otuosieme. They were picked up at Ore in Ondo State while they were off loading the goods at the warehouse of their agreed buyer, Seun Samuel who escaped as soon as he learnt of the presence of policemen on his street. At the police station, Tochukwu admitted that he was the mastermind behind the diversion but explained that he was moved to do it because his employer was no longer paying them for their services in his haulage company. “After my secondary education, I relocated to Lagos in search of greener pasture. I started as an apprentice at Alaba market but along the line, my uncle, Chief Innocent allowed me to join him in his company. He is the owner of Appointed Time Haulage Company which is also in Alaba international market. Our duty is to help offload containers and we agreed that for each container, we will be paid N1600. Initially, he was consistent in paying us after work because he was not paying us salary. Suddenly, he changed and sometimes will force us to go home emptyhanded after the day’s job. I felt bad and kept begging him to pay us our money. It got to a state that the other workers wanted to revolt or start stealing from him but since he is my blood relative, I will beg them to be patient. “After some months and he continued to shortchange us, I felt bad and decided to find a way out. I started making plans because I wanted to travel out of the country and the girl that I wanted to marry could leave me if I am not fast. A lot of men have started asking for her hand in marriage because she is a good girl. If I don’t pay her bride price they could take her away from me. I discovered that it would be difficult to divert one of the containers,” he said. On how he perfected it, Tochukwu explained that he duplicated some of the keys of the trucks and waited for an opportunity. “I told some of my colleagues in the company of my plan and they promised to keep quite even if they notice anything abnormal. I also contacted my friend, Nnanna who is based in Aba to come and drive the truck. On September 21, 2015, we loaded a truck load of electronics and since I knew the value, decided that it was time. Meanwhile, someone directed me that as soon as we get to Ore, that it will be very easy to sell the product. As soon as the driver of the truck went out to eat in preparation for the long journey, I alerted Nnanna and he drove off the truck with the duplicate key. We had moved down to Ore and handed over the truck to a buyer. We were waiting for them to bring the agreed sum which was N5million when the police came and arrested us. “I am not an armed robber neither have I stolen from anyone in the past. I only did it to help my economy. If my uncle was nice to us, I would never have thought of stealing from him. He is my father’s younger brother, so he has no choice but to forgive his nephew. I am very sorry and am convinced that my uncle will not send me to jail.” Nnanna, the driver, in his own statement at the police station, said that he saw it as an opportunity to make quick money. “Tochukwu called me that he needed me to drive a truck. I have been out of work and desperate to get something doing. It was when I got to Lagos that I realised that I was invited to divert a truck. Since I knew the true position, I told Tockukwu that he would pay me N400, 000 or no deal. He initially offered me N50, 000 but when I realised the risk involved, I had to increase the money. We were successful and were waiting for the buyer to bring the money when policemen arrested us. I know it’s a crime but I thank God that the goods were recovered in tact, so the police have no reason to detain me.” On their arrest, Saturday Sun gathered that police acted on information that a 40ft container load of electronics valued at N15 million loaded at Alaba International market, Ojo – Lagos and destined for Ilorin, Kwara State, has been diverted to Ore in Ondo State. The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, headquarters, AIG Bala Hassan directed the OC SARS. SP Peter Gana to fish them out at any cost. A team of policemen led by ASP Wilson Edward swung into action and laid ambush around an uncompleted building at Ore owned by one Samuel Seun still at large where the goods were offloaded. In the course of interrogation, it was discovered that one Tochukwu Akaolisa, the younger brother to one Innocent Akaolisa and the managing director of Appointed Time Haulage company connived with two others in the company—Monday Aigbe and Udochukwu Otuosieme, to divert and sell the goods while the proceed will be shared among them. In executing the plan, they hired the services of one Nnanna Nwachukwu, a driver from Aba, duplicated the key of the truck with registraion No.AAA378XL that loaded the goods and while the driver of the truck and the conductor went to eat, they stole and went away with the truck and the goods. After offloading the goods at Ore and waiting for a buyer, they drove the truck to Benin bypass and abandoned it there. Confirming their arrest, Zone 2 spokesman, CSP Adebowale Lawal assured that the suspect will be charged to court at the end of investigation. A ‘miracle’ of biblical proportions seemed to have happened in Kebbi State as a young man observing the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps in the State reportedly came back to life after two days in the mortuary. The Corps member, Sunday Omolafe, was said to have drowned after a boat he was travelling in capsized in a river in Birnin-Kebbi on Friday. He was subsequently recovered dead from the river and his body deposited at the mortuary last Friday. The young man however reportedly came back to life on Sunday despite having spent some 48 hours in the sub-zero freezing condition of the refrigerated mortuary, a development that baffled medical staff and other interested persons. Omolafe was said to be in the company of eight other corps members when the boat mishap occurred on their way to Birnin-Kebbi. His ‘resurrection’ has however led to an outburst of joy at the house of the 20-year-old Omolafe located at Ifelodun Street, Davog Area, Ijoka Road in Akure. According to a family source who preferred anonymity, the other corps members were saved while Omolafe could not be resuscitated. He was consequently put in a morgue while his family was notified of his demise. In an interview with The Hope, the source recounted how the victim’s mother fainted twice on hearing the news of her son’s death. Her husband, Mr. Omolafe, an aluminum fabricator, was said to have sat on the bare floor and could not speak to anyone when The Hope visited the place two days ago. He kept murmuring to himself as people sympathized with him. Then came a moment of joy as two days later, the situation was reversed as residents of the area rushed to the house, shouting and jubilating “o ti ji o, oku ti ji”, meaning “he has risen, the dead is risen.” On getting there, The Hope learnt that a call had been put across to the family from the government hospital in Birnin-Kebbi that the young man who was dumped in the mortuary had regained consciousness. Crowd visited the premises as the news spread like wild fire. While some others were rolling on the ground thanking God, others were shedding tears of joy at the news. Efforts to speak with the mother of the young man proved abortive at the time of filing this report. When contacted, an officer at the Public Relations Office of the NYSC on Igbatoro road, Akure, said that the Ondo State Office of NYSC was unaware of the incident. He explained further that the NYSC Ondo State is only responsible for only corps members posted to the state, adding that the NYSC in Kebbi State would likely know more about the incident. IF MEN WERE GOD! “Once INEC announces the victory of President Goodluck Jonathan, we will immediately shut down the Port Harcourt International Airport and all land and sea borders in Rivers State to prevent Rotimi Amaechi from escaping. We will arrest him” – Nyesom Wike, Feb 22, 2015. When Nyesom Wike made the above arrogant comments, he felt he was god or a demi-god in Rivers state. Now, The Almighty in His Infinity Has turned the tables around, and put Amaechi in charge of air land and sea not only of Rivers state, but of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Now, the one who was to be prevented from travelling is in charge of air, land and sea in Nigeria. Food for thought brethren. Here is a lesson: Do not blow your own trumpet. Do not exert power unnecessarily over others, especially the innocent. When in a position of power guard you mouth. Please feel free to share and add some more lessons learnt. Lalasticlala |
The Supreme leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, who also doubles as the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, currently being extra-judicially detained by the private army of President Muhammadu Buhari, the Department of State Security (DSS), is hale and hearty and in very high spirit. We can report authoritatively that Nnamdi Kanu is being treated by the DSS as a “delicate and complex” (VIP) prisoner of conscience. Our team after several attempts was able to meet with the radical leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra at the facility where he is being held against his wish. He was beaming with smiles upon seeing our team and was as undaunted and fired-up as ever. He was completely in the dark as to the protest going on as a result of his arrest. But when he was briefed he said it was in line with his thought and urged that hell should be let loosed. He admitted that he has been well respected and treated by the detectives. He is being detained in an average hotel room size kind of cell, fitted with air conditioner; fan and television set that shows only Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) station. His meals according to him were tested by the person(s) serving them before he eats and that he takes only bottled water from NBC, which the men of DSS corroborated later in our conversation with them. From our interaction with some of the DSS operatives, they accepted the fact that the bail conditions have been met but maintained that they needed to authenticate the title documents presented whether or not they were genuine, insisting that they would have to cross-check with Ministry of Housing. When we impressed on them that they should have long done the cross checking given the nature and caliber of the detainee and the interest it is generating, they then asked us if we can facilitate their going to the Ministry of Housing which we obliged. But reading them in between the lines, we deduced that their refusal to release him as granted by the Magistrate court was clearly deliberate, for there is no question about the documents presented with respect to his bail being genuine or not. They are ostensibly delaying his release till 18th of November when the case is expected to come up at the same court in other for them to press more (grievous) charges against him which the Magistrate court as an inferior court will lack jurisdiction to entertain and thus remanding him in prison custody. The lawyer handling the matter having sensed the permutations of the DSS has proceeded to file a case at the ECOWAS court. We must report, however, that there has been a high powered meeting going on between the Nigerian authorities and Nnamdi Kanu with iKanu rebuffing all cards placed on the table insisting that any entreaty that is not centered on Biafra restoration is dead on arrival. The British government in spite of their make-believe press statement are also concerned about the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, who despite having dual citizenship is still their citizen, as the British High Commissioner to Nigeria and his team visited him on Monday, details of their discussion which we are not permitted to report remains reassuring and gladdening. A delegation from the United States government will be meeting with him on Thursday. The pressure from a certain British MP is unsettling the British government and making her act in Nnamdi Kanu’s favour. When told about the plans by the Governor of Imo state, Chief Rochas Okorocha to convene a meeting of all interest groups over the protest, he got infuriated uncontrollably not minding the presence of the DSS operatives and pronounced death upon any Biafran that attends such meeting. He said that Governor Okoroawusa is a sworn enemy of the Biafran people and that Biafrans should not be equally yoked with him. He informed that the Nigerian state is panicking, that they had come to him repeatedly, urging him that they will allow him to speak to his group to stop whatever they were doing but he refused not knowing that it was because of the protest. He thus thundered that as the Commander in Chief of the Biafran Armed Forces that the protest should be intensified ten times over. He said he is unshaken and very confident of the leadership he left behind, that they will not disappoint him and the Biafra course. When he was informed about the casualty figure he was sober and pursued for a while, but vowed that for every blood of innocent Biafrans spilled that Nigeria will pay in ten folds. He paid tributes to those killed in Onitsha and Igweocha (Port Harcourt) and urged that those injured should be given all the care necessary. He also called for support for the protesting troops. Our team left him some hours ago, he was full of life and in high spirit. I think It's time we start acting like Christ and not the devil. Jesus had the balls, he chased assholes outta tha temple... It was the devil that was meek, he came when Eve was alone, came when Jesus was alone... Jesus never acted in solace, silence or darkness, He even started by declaring drinks for everybody at the after party. Abeg let's stop being hypocritical by acting Christlike and keeping quiet, the Jesus in my Bible was neither quiet nor afraid to act... Maybe the goodnews you claim to have is different, the one I ve is like the one I hear Tunde Bakare preach, It's radical, not calling but demanding change and making it happen. I'm tired of being meek and quiet, I'm acting like Jesus did... If Shekau is doing Muhammed, I choose to do Jesus from now... No time for iranu or iregbe, whois with me, I need 11 sword wielding and one back stabbing disciple. #christlikemode@ctivated |

Senate president Bukola Saraki is trying to broker a truce with senators of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the acrimonious confirmation of former Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as a minister. The Tribune reports that sources from both sides confirmed that reconciliation was ongoing and that the Senate president had reached out to the PDP legislators to sustain their friendship. One of the sources said: “The Senate president is unmindful of the friendship between him and the PDP senators and he is not taking that for granted. He has immediately reached out to the senators and assured them that party loyalty was responsible for his actions. I think they are resolving the grievances.” He added that the lawmakers expected that Saraki would “make up for the lapses” in the distribution of the chairmanship of senate standing committees which he is set to announce next week. According to some other sources Saraki had made spirited attempts ahead of the Thursday plenary to get the Senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio and other PDP senators to his side on the Amaechi issues, but the opposition senators refused ti give in ahead of that day’s sitting. Senators of the PDP were said to have held two closed door meetings in the Senate on Wednesday night and early on Thursday to perfect their strategy to stop the confirmation of the ex-governor. The legislators were said to be sure that Saraki would sustain the provisions of Senate Standing orders 41(7) as well as Order 53(5) which prohibit the Senate from debating on issues on which are in court. But the Senate leader sided with the ruling party when the chips were down, thus making the PDP senators to express their disappointment. The arguments and counter-arguments on the floor of the upper legislative chamber resulted in the senators from the opposition party staging a walkout from the Senate chamber and, at a press conference after the walkout, the senators sounded as if their friendship with Saraki was over. Have you heard the story of Biafra lately? It has become the story of how igbos were massacred in the north, how they exodused all parts of the country back to the eastern part of Nigeria, how messiah Ojukwu couldn’t take it any longer and declared the igbos independent and the new country called Biafra was born. The story of Biafra is being told as the story of how Gowon was angered by the declaration of the independence of Biafra and how he sent soldiers to kill the igbos. This is the story you will read in countless books written by the igbos; this is the story you see in the movie “Half Of A Yellow Sun”, a movie adapted from a book with same name written by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie who was not even born during the war but was told about the war. Watch the movie and you will see what they told her about the war: in the movie you will see the bombings of the igbos and the destruction of the land of Biafra. You will see disease and pain, suffering and death caused by the Nigerian troops. That is what the story of Biafra has become. It is not a lie. But it is a single story, with the other part being deliberately left out. In the movie we were not shown how the Hausa/Fulani lived happily with the igbos before some young igbo soldiers gathered the Hausa/Fulani leaders and shot them to dead. Sadly there is no scene in that movie that showed how Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu raided the home of the revered Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sarduana of Sokoto and killed him brutally before his wives and children, even killing one of his wives alongside. No scene in that movie showed us how the Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa was killed and how the president Nnamdi Azikiwe escaped the bullets of the young igbo coupists. No one is telling us about how Ironsi came on board and failed to bring the coupists to quick justice. No scene told us about the insolence of Ojukwu in refusing to submit to the authority of Gowon. This is the danger of the single story. So nobody knows the pains of the north in waking up one day and finding out that their top leaders have been killed by their igbo brothers. We will never understand their rage and heartbreak. Maybe because they have refused to write their own single story books or produce “The Other Half Of The Yellow Sun” movie. The coup was wrong. The killings in the north was wrong. The declaration of Biafra and civil war was a mistake we could have avoided. But these mistakes happened not because of the existence of the above facts but due to the generalization of these facts. When the igbo coupists killed the northern leaders, the northerners were enraged and attacked their igbo brothers. That was a generalization. Major Nzeogwu and his boys were igbos but they were not representatives of the igbo nation, the coupists didn’t consult the igbos before they struck but the north poured their rage on innocent igbos. Their rage might have been justified but their conclusion and outpour of their rage was not. Then Ojukwu foisted his dreams on a frustrated people. He led a people to fight a war they didn’t want, a war they were not prepared for and when ultimate defeat came, he ran away and left the people he promised he will never leave. In the heat of the civil war the voice of Ojukwu boomed over the Radio: “Fellow Biafrans, where will you run? We ran away from Lagos and fled Northern Nigeria by the thousands. In the battle fields, we ran and allowed the enemies to advance. Must we also run in our homeland? Face the enemy and fight him, street by street, house by house. This is the moment to die for Biafra.” Such powerful oratory. But Ojukwu didn’t stand and fight, he ran. Before Ojukwu declared the Biafra independence he did not inform them about the consequences of war. He refused all political solutions to the crisis and forced the hand of Gowon who like Abraham Lincoln in 1861 must keep the country one. The rage of Ojukwu might have been justified but was declaring the birthing of a nation the way he did the best solution or he was just carving out an empire to rule? Today, we are here again; confronted with a ping pong of aspirations, egos, errors and generalizations. Are we going to repeat the mistakes of the past or we are wiser? In 1966 we concluded, erroneously, that Major Nzeogwu and co represented the igbos in their bloody coup, today we are making the same mistake; we are concluding that MASSOB and Radio Biafra represent the generality of the igbos. These people or groups have not acquired the rights, legally and culturally, to speak for or represent the igbos in anyway. Their aim is to deceive us that they represent the Igbos and they are flourishing because we are buying into this lie. When MASSOB and their ilk talk they speak for themselves then mislead us into thinking they are speaking for every igbo, then we reply, enraged, at every igbo man or woman, our friends and brothers. Let history not repeat itself. Even some of the igbos who are being deceived that these groups speak for them should also be wary. Biafra has become the password to fame, glory and wealth to a lot of people. They don’t really care about igbos. They have discovered that all they need to say to get on TV is the word BIAFRA. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie did not share the monies she made from selling the book/movie “Half of A Yellow Sun” with hardworking Igbos who are toiling daily to make ends meet. For her Biafra is simple another material to write fiction for book signings, awards, fame and fat accounts. They only shout BIAFRA when it is profitable to them. A true Igbo woman will marry and bear the husband’s name. A true Igbo will not support same sex marriage, homosexuality and lesbianism as Chimamanda does. Biafra is simply their password to manipulate the Igbo masses. My brothers and sisters be wise. When the bullets begin to sing and the bombs begin to drop these “give-us-Biafra” leaders have access to helicopters like Ojukwu to escape to safe havens. The sad irony is that those who through their oratory and garagara lead millions to die during wars end up dying at a very old age. Don’t let them use our common problems to manipulate you. The problems of poverty, deprivation and want is truly with us in this country. No part of Nigeria is having it easy at the expense of others. Don’t let them fool you. Together we will work this out. Those who are looking for an empire to be carved out for them to rule will tell you that if you break away from Nigeria all will be well, but that is not true. Don’t trust them. The problems won’t just go away because you change a country’s name, coat of arm, flag and national anthem. See how Kanu and Uwazurike are fighting each other. They are already struggling for who will be the Lord and Master of the igbo Biafra. They think Biafra is their path to greatness. But as the venerable Nnamdi Azikiwe once put it “Greatness can be achieved by an idiot just as immortality can be achieved by an ass. But true greatness and worthwhile immortality can be achieved by a selected few.” Even if anyone wants to leave the Federal Republic of Nigeria there are legal and international acceptable procedures to be followed not the song of war being played on Radio Biafra. Forget all those Generals of invisible armies on social media calling for war. They don’t know what war is. They think what they saw in the movie “Half of a Yellow Sun” is war. This generation has not seen war. Ask those from Sierra Leone, Sudan and Syria, let they tell you what war is. The duty of the armed forces, Police and DSS is to keep this country one and indivisible. Except any part of this country is released legally from the oneness as enshrined in our constitution any part that tries to pull out illegally and forcefully must be stopped. The security operatives should not take the threat of these violence mongers lying low. Every bit of information should be investigated and nipped in the bud before we get to the point where brothers will begin to kill brothers… again. And I call on our leaders to improve our commonwealth. This has always been the root cause of all agitations. “All nations of the world are afflicted with tribal consciousness. Good government can minimize or obliterate it.” – Nnamdi Azikiwe First Baba Isa (FBI) writes from Abuja Source; http://247nigerianewsupdate.co/biafra-the-danger-of-the-single-story-and-the-mistakes-of-the-past-must-read/ |
