CultureRe: Igbo Women And Social Status by AndreUweh(op): 12:44am On Oct 27, 2010
The Igbo societies are not static. As the wind of change is blowing across the globe, Igboland is affected as well. Wife beating is no longer the norm now. In the past, in keeping with the Igbo view of female nature, the group allowed wife beating. According to Igbo belief. women by nature required to be tamed and streamlined by regular beating so that atmosphere at at home and outside should remain orderly. In Things fall Apart-Achebe described how Okonkwo beat his second wife for not coming home to make his meal. Though Okonkwo was punished but only because he beat her during the week of peace.

Igbos got those red hats from Hausa people, its so obvious, even Libyans have the same thing both the black and red version.
You have confirmed what I earlier stated on. From your pics, there are two colours here. The red one is Igbo while the oxblood is not Igbo.
Igbo titled men wear the red hat which signifies struggle to keep family and Igbo traditions together.

It is an outright stupidity to suggest that Chizoba could mean ones own carelessness and hence the name. Yoruba and Igbo names have meanings attached to it. Likewise other African names. If African names are meaningless, then European/American names are worse off.

^^^ thanks Andre for correcting that malicious misinformation on the Igbo red caps.

Please, i'll like to ask, What are untitled Igbo men supposed to hear with their native outfits, as opposed to the red caps?(Explanation with pix if any will be appreciated). Thanks.
They can wear this and many others but not the red hat.

Honestly, if we want to go down this road of who and who have been colonized, its a slippery slope argument. You can say Japanese people have their own religion and their own names but then you have to ask why they dress like Europeans. Thats also part of colonization, the adoption in a wholesale fashion of someone else's culture or aspects of their culture because it implies that at some point in time, you felt what you had was not good enough so you either willingly adopted someone else's or you were sort of forced to by colonialism, everybody is a victim of colonization one way or the other.
Why do Iranians who are Persians wear western/European clothes? Why do Nigerians wear arab clothes? coz the agabda, babban riga and Kaftan are all arab. Those red hats that Igbo chiefs wear are Turkish passed through Arabs and Hausa people to the Igbos! Goodluck Jonathan whole attire is foreign, his hat English, his clothes, if you trace the origins (the trousers and knee length gown) are attires that came from south west Asia. But its obviously been modified.
The above post is brain crippling. Sometimes I wonder why people write rubbish about Igbo culture which they do not know anything about it. anyway, the red hat titled men wear in Igboland signifies struggle (blood). It is not borrowed from HAUSAS or any other culture. What Hausas wear is not even red hats but oxblood hats.
CultureRe: The Church And Development Of Igboland by AndreUweh(op): 4:08pm On Oct 26, 2010
The Churches in Igboland are responding positively to the spread of HIV/AID. In my local Bishopric-Okigwe south Anglican Communion diocese, HIV/AIDS ministry has been established. This ministry is headed by Rev. Ernest OSUCHUKWU, a well trained community worker.
They carry out continous awareness and regular sensitization campaigns for prevention of HIV/AIDS.
They hold periodic seminars and workshops to raise volunteers.
They have established sexual abstinence clubs in our churches and schools.
How are your Churches in Igboland responding to the deadly effects of HIV/AIDS?.

PoliticsRe: Do You Know Nigeria Has An Ethnic Arab Tribe ? by AndreUweh(m): 3:53pm On Oct 24, 2010
KnowAll:
The Shuwa Arabs are not indigenious chadian or sudanese group, in fact there are Shuwa Arabs population in SUDAN, CHAD, NIGER, and NE Nigeria. They are only 250,000 in Borno State out of a population of 3 million. Their mother tongue is Arabic albeit adultrated Arabic, they are like an Ekiti man being a Yoruba man. They come in different shades from jet black to fair skinned standard or normal Arabic look, the fact that some are dark does not make them less arabic like their cousins in the arabian peninsula, The common denomination between them and their cousins is the capabilty to communicate in the mother tongue.

They are a pastorist tribe, obviously with that kind of movement within the tribe, their nationalities can change from being a Nigerian to a chadian to a sudanese at random that can be dangerous as weapons and fire-arms can brought in by unscrouplous businessmen to subversive groups like Boko-Haram

Kanuris are not Arabs. What they share in common with Arabs is chiefly religion. They are a Chadian group.
