In politics there are no permanent friends and permanent enemies. What you need to have are permanent interests.

It seems you've been on vacation on some isolated island. huh The events of the recent times have shown that GJ is the man to beat. Like most posters have said here, he's a one-eyed man in the land of the blind. Not really the best, just better than the rest masquerading themselves as candidates.
Spot on.
I envy your wisdom. Are you related to King Solomon?.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Blackburn Rovers Vs Chelsea [1 - 2] On Saturday 30th October 2010 by AndreUweh(m): 5:06pm On Oct 30, 2010
Chelsea have done well. Ivanovic has been blessed today for his header last week at Villa which hit the bar and bounced off.
Chelsea have earned 3pts where we had only one last season. Good also to note that we earned a point at Villa where we lost all three.
Well done the Blues.

Honestly, i'm getting fed up of people who speak from all sides of the mouth.

I'm sure i've heard and read a billion times (even on the forum) thats Igbo's are about the only group/tribe who are (somewhat) democratic in tradition/culture. This is even further stressed by the fact that Igbo's do not have a singular ruler.

Why do we now have the leader of a socio-cultual organisation speaking on behalf of a whole a tribe??
A bloody socio-cultural organisation littered with rapscallions who are up for their own personal gains??

If these guys are so interested in politcs then they should show their hands. If not, Ralph Uwechue  and his buds  should continue promoting the Igbo language and culture.
The society for Promotion of Igbo language and Culture (SPILAC) is already doing that and that falls under Ohanaeze.

After consulting, did they take the final decision using one of the mechanisms provided in the laws of Ohaneze constitution?
The essence of consultation is not so that you select those who agree with you and reach a decision behind the scene.

The Ohaneze constitution has mechanisms on which critical decisions must be taken, was any of those followed? That is the question.

And mark my word No zoning arrangement in Nigeria will see power move from South-South to South East. It is only those who do not understand the spirit under which they attempted to form the zoning policy that will engage in such wild dreams.

Ralph Uwechue can not claim Jonathan who has said zoning does not exist when it comes to choosing the President will now turn around to zone power to the South East.

Most importantly, Jonathan as President will be too weak to deliver on anything and this is what nobody is talking about.
I will rather Ohaneze does not endorse anybody than invest our political future on a very dumb President who will not deliver on anything, and yet not a member of Ohaneze.

This is simply political sucide if this madness is allowed to stand.

Ralph Uwechue should get ready to step down next month.
Mike, biko, for the sake of Christ, leave Uwaechue alone for once. At first, you said there were no consultations, we told you there were. From Newspaper reports, you should have seen series of meetings that took place. The bottom line is: You have a right to vote for any candidate of your choice. Ohanaeze is only acting in an advisory capacity. Thank you.

Apart from Igboland, other societies such as The U.K, gun salutes are used to welcome important dignatories at Windsor castle. Throught the world, a knockout, which is fireworks, is used to compliment feasts like christmas, new year etc.
Gun salutes are good. I remember, in the first hour of transition from 2009 to 2010, in my part of London residence, over 1000 fireworks were blown to usher in the new year. Hence in Igboland, it should be encouraged.

Instead of creating threds on how you can be a lesbian, why not occupy your mind with the success Chinua Achebe and now Chimamanda Adichie has brought to Ndigbo and Nigeria.
How about Jim Nwobodo who established the first state university in Nigeria. How about the first indigenous university ion Nigeria-UNN that was established by the Igbo led eastern Nigeria.
How about K. Dike, the first Nigerian V.C of Unibadan.
How about Nnamdi Azikiwe, the first Nigerian Gov-gen and first president of Nigeria.
Also, Aguiyi Ironsi, the first Nigerian military general and first military head of state.

Do not also forget the story of Joe Achuzia when he was chairman of Ohaneze.

This is how he went ahead to endorse OBJ's third term and that decision factionalised Ohaneze. So we have seen this kind of behaviour before.

So Uwechue should leave politics for Politicians and insulate Ohaneze from Politics no matter how noble he may think his agenda may be.
Mike I do respect your opinion, but it is worthy to note that the Ohanaeze of today led by Uwaechue is totally different from the Ohanaeze of Achuzia days. Prior to the endorsement of Jonathan, there were wild consultations home and abroad. I am an Igbo Youth leader here in London, and I knew very well when the consultation were going on.
It does not mean every Igbo will vote for GEJ. My point is-there were consultations.

Frankly, I think that it is very very bad for any Igbo to accuse Uwechue of "selling Ndigbo" because he is from south south. This is the type of silly mindset that defeats our collective objectives in Nigeria. Anyone making such claims should have their heads examined.

As I said before, Uwechue has demonstrated uncommon leadership as the head of Ohananeze, mainly because of his diplomatic and consultative skills. He never made this endorsement alone. He consulted. Of course, as Ndigbo, there will always be dissenting opinions. No one will force you to vote for anyone ultimately; but, Ndigbo must learn to speak with one voice on ANY issue in Nigeria.

Of course in time, there will be a more democratic way of seeking the opinions of Igbo masses at critical times (eg, through straw polls). For now, we can make do with a broad consultation by the Ohanaeze chieftains.

For the record, I have never seen Ohanaeze this organized, focused and mature for a very loooooooooong time. All credit should go to Uwechue. For me, the issue is not about Jonathan. The issue is about Igbo speaking with one powerful voice. We are gradually getting there. cool
May your days be long Nwa Nnewi.

@Chyz, as usual, your thoughts are wise. For many months, this impasse lingered on, Ohanaeze was not in a hurry to step in but at a stage, they had no choice as our people were heading to no where. After consultations and consultations and based on opinions of most Igbo associations, they made a choice.
Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo is cultural but when occasion demands, they interfere in politics.
Suggesting that Ohanaeze should not step a foot in politics is like suggesting that the Army should not step foot in Aba because it is the duty of the police in that city to maintain law and order.
Thanks to Uwaechue, majority of Ndigbo are in your support.

Andre, don't get overexcited, tossing nonsense words, like "anti Ohanaeze chieftain". This is not an issue of anti/pro anything. Rather, this is about the fact that this organization is steadily dipping its socio-cultural hand where it shouldn't be dipped into. What they're doing is unfounded, plain and simple. If they want, they can develop their own political organization with Igbo political interests. There would be no argument against that, but what this "apex organization" is currently doing now, is simply nonsense and confusion.

I hope this organization is prepared to carry the blame and shame that comes with playing politics. Nonsense.
I think you are the one who is overexcited. ''Man is by nature a political animal''-Aristotle. Hence as humans, they have a right to to be involved in any thing that affects their group politically. Remember, when you are talking about culture (as in Ohanaeze), you are taling about the peoples way of life which includes culture.
The Igbo Union cum Ohanaeze has at one time or the other involved in descision making for their group e.g NCNC, NPP etc.
They know better than you and I.

When consultations are made, they do not come individuals for their views but Igbo organisations. You rely a lot on Nairaland to know about this consultations. Am not surprised this is coming from an anti Ohanaeze chieftain like you.
Take it or leave it, consultations were made which am very aware of it. Opinions might be divided but that is obtainable in other areas of Nigeria.

Ndigbo in Nigeria and abroad were consulted over this matter by Uwaechue's led Ohanaeze. Here in the U.K, all the Igbo organisations as well as Ohanaeze U.K chapter were consulted over this matter.
Opinions may differ, but indeed Igbo organisations were consulted over this matter by Ohanaeze Worldwide led by Uwaechue.
At this point, I advice Ndigbo home and abroad to associate with Igbo organisations in their locality.

CultureRe: Why Do Yoruba Guys Marry Igbo Girls? by AndreUweh(m): 11:46am On Oct 27, 2010
@Oludashmi.
You are displaying insufficient knowledge of Igboland here. Anyway, you can learn here. Igbo communities are clan based. People of a clan live in the same area. They do not build a house at one location and move miles away to build another. It is a fallacy to type so.
Here is an example for you: Kindred-Umueze, they all live together, next to that kindred is Umuawuchi kindred but in the same ward, next to that is other ward and all in the same clan.
In West Africa, Igbo land is the most congregated area and the most populous. People from Kindred to ward to clan all live close to each.
Please do not type further crap as if there are no Igbo people here. Even though, they do not enjoy replying junks.

@IFY: That elder spoke well. However you still have those who beat their wives. What am saying is that at the moment, Igbo women are more respected and the idea of wife beating has reduced drastically. Igbo women in the 21st century is not same with late 19th and early 20th century which Achebe wrote in TFA. Credit to Igbomen for their perfect understanding.
