agaugust: In real war no country has monopoly of attack, once an undetected submarine fires a torpedoe its location is known by all surface warships because incoming torpedo has traceable source. Then all surface ships and helicopters counter attack with anti submarine weapons and the submarine is not a spirit from heaven, its a huge piece of metal.

The NATO ships locked on by south African submarines are not named in the story. How many ships ? What caliber of technology is in those ships? Are they modern stealth warships? Which NATO countries, Britain & Germany warships or Greece and Belgium warships? We don't have all those details.

I don't just jump to conclusion with half information, unless I am sure with good reasons.

In real war a submarine is a hit and run weapon or else it becomes detected by firing one single torpedo as weapons leave trail on their pathway and electromagnetic waves detect moving objects.

No war record in human history shows where submarines win a war, the ocean is too large and navies don't operate on land for war. Navies sit down in water armies take territory and rule countries on land.

I have never heard where 2 south african submarines can operate under the nose of 40 Africa Egyptian anti submarine helicopters and not be detected while the submarine fires a weapon that can be seen even by human eyes when it makes trail wakes on water approaching to hit a ship, and 40 American made Egyptian anti -submarine helicopters never find in an destroy it ?

Simpile fact is no sub shara Navy has any really Anti sub marine force and those that do never train with them (when the last time NN had a exersize with a sub) only a few north african navys actualy pressent a threat.

And you probably dont know that the NNS-THUNDER(F89) can engage effectively any submarine in an anti-sub warfare given its anti-sub capabilities(please, do check wikipedia if your doubt me) , and i also guess you have not heard of anti-submarine warfare helicopters operated by nigerian armed forces! 1 TYPE 209 SUB cant take down NNS- thunder if supported with its anti-subs aircraftborne missiles . . . . .

Dose thunder have anti sub missiels. I know it has place for torpedos but missiels.

And yes 1 type 209 would sluater NNS thunder. 1 type 209 took out a entire NATO ASW task force in a war game.

Each reginal group is ment to have a unified milltary agrement of some kind. The idea actually came from ecomog. To date only 2 groups have done anything other than talk.

Ecomog and SADCBRIG. Ecomog of course started it. And has deployed to a few wars. Maili the latests (though it took some time to get there)

And SADCBRIG had a 2 part milltary exersize in South africa for land based and nambia for ocean based. SADCBRIG wants to deploy to DRC to root out M23 but there are dellays. They don't want to fall under a UN mandate since the UN has not achieved anything due to burcrats and strict ROE.

The central african group did deploy to CAR but unsure on if it was has group or each country alone.
