agaugust: please dont waste my time again today about english language meanings of corvette and frigate and light frigate. i posted english language meaning of those words from wikipedia last week for you to learn, but south africans never learn or improve their knowledge, its a real shame, sorry to say, no insult intended.
"The Type 056 Jiangdao Class corvette is a new Chinese light warship that entered service with the People's Liberation Army Navy in 2012 as a replacement for the Jianghu class frigate and the Type 037 series of patrol vessels. It has been described as a stealth missile frigate which is also armed with torpedos and a 76mm main gun and a light helicopter."
source quoted from weblink : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_056_corvette Read the designation it has. It is in your own source. Gusee what it is a corvet With only 4 Anti ship missils it is not a frigat. Even the Gowind a strong conterd for the OPV part of project biro is more powerfull. And SA wants to call them OPVs(though that to keep the doves I'm parment from complaining) http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gowind-class_corvetteAll so on project biro the IPV will be somthing along the lines of the cape class only with a extended forecastel to mount a 35mm gun http://www.austal.com/en/products-and-services/defence-products/patrol-boats/cape-class-patrol-boats.aspx |

agaugust: nigerian navy new stealth light frigates coming to join the four other 58m stealth missile carrying opvs from singapore with australian built stealth technology, the best in the world.
this will give nigeria 8 stealth warships and vessels, while another two bigger 110m stealth frigates will join them later making 4 frigates and 4 patrol missile vessels all stealth combat ships.
i think those who say nigerian navy is weak should go and swallow their words. SA project biro will keep SA in the lead and all of the project Biro ship will be 100% build in SA |

agaugust: two new nigerian navy 95m stealth warships light frigates. the two coming from china soon, still in shipyard building. two will be delivered, one fully built in china, and the second ship half built in china50% and half built in nigeria 50% to transfer some higher capability to build large warships to nigeria after we successfully built NNS Andoni patrol gun boat locally.
these two new 95m stealth light frigates frigates will carry one helicopter each and equipped with anti-ship cruise missiles and anti-aircrft missiles as well as anti-submarine warefare electronics and torpedoes, plus its 76mm main gun and two 30mm remote weapons systems. also has electronic warfare sytems and FL-3000 anti-missile defence weapons similar to current american standards.
it is an ultra-modern stealth warship with latest technology of year 2012. You putting both anti ship missels and anti aire airmissiles on that thing. Did nigeria not look at the austrian problem of putting to much in a small hull. Any case they corvets. Not light frigats. |

Capnd143: very soon Nigeria would overtake SA GDP IN OCTOBeR 2013, after gdp rebasing, our gdp currently only includes oil and agricultures based since 1990, neglecting other areas, the october 2013 gdp results would show a 60% increase reflecting; ICT,SERVICES,manufacturing, banking, insurance, etc, so there is no dought that SA is gonna be left behind, the only think SA is gonna be ahead of us is Per capita finish. Just wait for the rebasing calculations on october dude.
---- and for the oil production stuff, we have discovered many new oil reserves in nigeria which will help us overtime, right now we are concentrating on diversifyin the economy to be totally less dependent on oil and its working. Econmy yes (due to large popultion) but no to the GDP. And you still get over 90% forghine money from oil |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 7:37pm On Mar 11, 2013 |
agaugust: what you south africans dont know is that there are different economic fundamentals for measuring national wealth. GDP per capita is just one, others include interest rate, inflation rate, exchange rate, unemployment rate, and growth rate. these are economic fundamentals. however there are accounting fundamentals and these includes debt ratio, budget deficit/surplus, cash flow, etc.
GDP alone does not make a nation rich or poor. too many accounting and economic fundamentals are involved and its too complex for a south african mind to understand.
america has GDP many times more than nigeria, but nigeria has lower debt ratio very much lower. america now has negative cash flow and has bad liquidity, nigeria has positive cash flow and very good liquidity. so who is richer as at today ? nigeria or america ?
no one can correctly judge nigerian economy vs south african economy without access to all necessary economic and accounting fundamentals for both countries
i hate to say that i have a finance/accounting degree and i wont downgrade myself to argue a topic i spent years to read in university with south africans who didnt read 10% of the books i read to graduate. sorry, no insult intended....but i am out of that kind of discuss for now. Infaltion in jan 2013 Nigeria 9% SA 5% Exchange rate Nigeria 1 naira = 0.0063 SA 1 rand = 0.1097 Intrist rate Nigeria benchmark 12% SA benchmark 5% Unemployment Nigeria 23.90(has of 2011) SA 24.90 Intristing thing is though nigeria unempoyment was rising while SA has seen a decrease I am to bord to carry on. |

Henry120: In that same vein do you agree that equatorial guinea, with a per capita of 35000- 45000 is africa's largest economy and should be africa's most powerful nation, and clearly dwarfs that of south africa at 11,000usd?
In the same vein Brunei has a GDP per capita that is well above that of the USA, and switzerland also has PPP higher than the USA?
Back to africa, makes me wonder, how come since the year the AU was founded, nigeria, libya, egypt, south africa and algeria continue to be the largest financial contributors. Is equatorial guinea not cheating us? By your assertion equatorial guinea should be our boss. Popultion has a lot to do with it. A lot. |

Henry120: Nigeria's GDP at 392 billion USD is not small, by the same vein, I can also say the GDP of south africa is also small at just over 410 billion USD.
Nigeria's largest amount comes from within nigeria itself, it is our foreign exchange( dollars, pounds or euros) earnings that comes from abroad. We continually try to educate you people, your problem is that you just don't want to listen.
See let me tell you, as we all know there are 170 million people in nigeria, to prove my point, I am going to use a sausage roll, very popular in nigeria called GALA
Nigeria has africa's largest middle class at 50 million( gala is both eaten by the rich and poor in nigeria, however, I'm going to use 50 million people as an average)
GALA( sausage role) = 50 naira each 50 million Nigerians eat gala every week 50 million * 50 naira = 2.5 billion naira per week
In dollars the company that makes gala, gets 60 million dollars per month
In a year the company would get about 702million USD per 50 million nigerians
The informal sector/ trade within nigeria rakes in billions of dollars per year. The problem is that, it is not a foreign exchange earner. We don't get dollars when we trade like this. Our major foreign exchange earner is oil.
That is just for 50 million nigerians, and there are 170 million of us in nigeria.
Why is this thing so difficult for you people to understand, oil does not make nigeria thick. South africa per captia GDP is over 11 000 http://www.indexmundi.com/south_africa/gdp_per_capita_(ppp).html Where nigeria is under 3000 http://www.indexmundi.com/nigeria/gdp_per_capita_(ppp).html So yes I can say nigerias GDP is small. |

Henry120: More oil fields have been discovered in nigeria, of which the most high profile ones are the anambra and lake chad basin.
No doubt, there are shortcomings, with the most high profile been the stalling of the PIB in the national assembly, but we( indigenous oil coys) have seen tremendous growth in the past decade particularly in president GEJ's administration, with the passage of the local content law, nestoil a port-harcourt based company was awarded a 1.1 billion USD contract to build oil pipelines in bayelsa state, another nigerian company( nigerdock) was awarded a contract worth at least over 2 billion dollars to design and build 2 oil platforms for elf oil company. Afren oil another nigerian firm has won contracts for drilling and exploration of crude oil in IRAQ, kurdistan region in the north.
We are currently producing 2.7 million barrels of oil per day. Crude oil is our highest foreign exchange earner, but it only accounts for about 25% of GDP, agriculture( food and beverages) accounts 40% of the GDP, telecommunications/ ICT is huge( 117 million active phone lines, plus internet provision and other related tools), banking and finance and a construction boom especially in the south of nigeria are our heavy hitters. There is also huge reserves of GAS
I hope you saw the KPMG report on MINTS (malaysia, indonesia, nigeria turkey and singapore), Look, oil is very important for us, but oil is not even up to 27% of nigeria's economy, is it with the hand full of jobs oil provides Nigeria GDP is small most of her money comes from forgin trade and the biggest item nigeria trades is crude oil. |

agaugust: i didnt say archer beats GV6 in range, but in numbers of mobile artillery nigerian army 98 guns now beats south african army 46 guns.
rate of shelling per minutes matters in artillery duel to avoid being out-gunned, the guns are mobile and move at 70km per hr, good artillery commander will advance to close in the gap and cut off range difference, especially with more guns, he can open two front-lines of attack and pincer formation is deadly.
both guns use boosters/enhancement projectile to shoot longer. archer needs booster to shoot beyond 40km and GV6 needs booster projectile to shoot beyond 50km. i googled both of them and spent my time on the research. new issues now is that SPH recoil of guns kills vehicle chasis, hence archer turret is at tail end of chasis, GV6 i am not sure it has that protection as the turret is right in the middle of the vehicle chasis...thr recoil of a 155mm will slowly kill the vehicle chasis as time goes on. thats a new observation in military engineering circles now. archer may last longer in service if GV6 has that issue.
see position of the nigerian archer gun turret at the back of the chassis to reduce recoil shock on the vehicle The G6 has a longer range (up to 100km with the new rounds), faster road speed and off road speed, higher fire rate, and far greater protection. The most the reciol would do is increase mintence but did you take in to account the weight and suspension allong with recioldampners in your conclussion because I have not heard of the recoil being a problem for the G6.52 |

Nigeria Army mobile artillery now beats South African mobile army artillery
nigerian army now operates the newly delivered latest model 2011 version of the ultra-modern Bofors Archer self-propelled mobile long range heavy artillery guns, ordered from Sweden and total 48 units. this will add to nigeria's mobile artillery palmaria from italy, 25 initial units and 25 added makingg 48 palmaria.
nigerian army now has 98 long range heavy mobile artillery guns, more than double of south african army almost 46 units
the nigerian new killer guns are in the photos below...they fire explosive shell to a range of range 60km
congratulations once again to nigerian army artillery regiment, africa's most respected army field artillery corp

agaugust: Budget Argument - Nigeria Vs South Africa
there is need to just close this issue over-flogged.
both countries have a different public sector accounting and funding laws and regulations, as well as fiscal and monetary policies being very different.
the south africans need to understand that nigeria spends its money in a different way both for budgets and contingencies (emergency/unexpected crisis/events)
we have several types of nigerian government accounts where we keep money. the federation account and the consolidated revenue funds are the main government sector accounts in nigeria.
however, we have several special accounts for keeping surplus funds usually cash dollars from oil and gas sales.
one is the excess crude oil sales account. another is the new dedicated account as a future reserve fund for a percentage of all nigerian oil sales. both accounts contain billions of dollars and keep growing daily, the more oil we sell, the more they grow fat.
nigeria has a defence budget approved every year, true, but there is a provision in nigerian constitution which empowers the president to request senate approval for the disbursement for extra funds beyond the budget, from any of the special accounts in case of emergency defence or security needs.
my problem with all the south africans on this forum is that they think only in one straight line, maybe thats the way south africans are trained to think...but it wont help them go very far. no insult intended, this is a black man's advice to fellow black men. i discovered this thinking pattern in them when we argue about military weapons, south african thinking is not flexible and hardly thinks outside the box. also, they dont flow well with complex issues.
the use of these special funds makes the budget for defence to be just the basic minimum amount to spend. the special accounts can be used until exhausted without any limit once the executive and legislature agree and approve the extra spending.
this happened in the first term of ex-president obasanjo who got the senate to approve extra half a billion dollars as first installment cash for preparing nigerian military equipment for war in the bakassi peninsula, it took only one day to get approval for this extra spending outside the budget from the reserve account.
current dollar reserve account of nigeria is about $50 billion. this is different and separate from the dedicated future reserve account from daily oil sales.
nigerian defence budget has been supported again during the current jonathan era for over a billion dollars used for urgent security and defense issues. details are not revealed because nigerian law allows a level of secrecy because national security is involved in the use of those funds.
please south africans find something else to argue about and leave nigeria's budget alone, you are not technically competent to teach us how to spend our money, nigeria's minister for finance is a vice-president of the world bank with her Phd degree and she has one of the best financial brains in the world. in terms of deffense budget that coverd in your national budget. Has for the other budgets do you really think SA has not got emergiancy funds and SA and any country can add money to it's deffense account any time. The first anti piracy ops was coverd from that along with the first 2 months of our CAR deployment, the trip SAS drakensberg took to west coastan, extra there is 2billion rands actually put asside each year to cover smaller emergaincys such has the resscues our air force have carried out. this is nothing specciol if nigeria has all that money why are they not spending it on much needed areas such has infustructer development, hell you could be like the old byztian empire and just buy the barbriains(BH) off with that much money. because your deffense budget is very small compaired to the size of you milltary |

And just 4get about defense budget stuf, becos even a lay man in Nigeria would knw that due to escalating boko haram issues we spend almost 10 more than the budget resulting in high budget deficit which you can confirm 4 urself. where do you get 129 aircraft since you have not even sellected what aircraft you want to get other than i thing the MI17. and you could only muster 122 aircraft so unless you hiding them(and that means not flying them) where are the rest. either you lieing or nigeria is running in to massive debt every year i am going with you lieing. |

agaugust: the white-man does not want nigeria to develop and compete with them. when america stopped nigeria from paying billions of dollars to north korea for ballistic missile technology transfer, the americans did not offer us any alternative, their policy says such weapons sholud not be proloiferated or spread all over the world. they alone want to be world champion.
a lot to do yes, the points you made are NOT barriers in any way to nigeria's military weapons manufacturing industrial growth. research funds can be increased overnight by nigeria, we have too much money sitting down in central band and foreign baks as reserve $50 billion....and nigerian oil ang gas will keep on flowing for the next over 200 years....
money is not our problem when we want to do something in nigeria. have you been to abuja city? you wont believe it is in black african country.
nigeria has no problem catching up with south africa after some years maybe between 7 to 15 years. the americana and europeans were doubting japan, south korea, and china many years ago, but now the whole world fears and respects china, south korea, and japan in the area of advanced technology
now japan has technology better than USA, they have defeated america in world market with products like toyota and honda.
have you visited seoul city of south korea? you wont believe it is an asian city, its more beautiful than america...and cleaner.
china alone produced its J-20 stealth jet fighter that britain could not produce alone, they used joint venture with america to produce F-35 stealth jet.
sorry andrewza, nigeria cannot be slowed down by your list of 'many rivers to cross', nigeria is a different kind of black people on the face of the earth, even the average black american graduate is not more intelligent than the average nigerian graduate...i have beaten both whites and black here in america when situation makes us to compete against each other. it had less to do with nigeria and more to do with NK. US is all ways trying to stop any body dealling with NK who said any thing about posting barriers. And if nigeria has so much money why are they not spending it on needed devolpement. all most all asian countires are better off than amrica, amrica is 2 trillion USD in debt. |

Capnd143: lol . . . . You see hw biased you are bro? I told ya times without number that Nigerian armed forces dnt ring bell about their military spending! And that list as far as i can remember is 2011 and 2003 list! Ok. . .lets be more practical! Would 360million dollars be enough to pay 4 our 6 frigates, 3 submarines, 139 aircraft, 1 predator drone, etc which we have paid for and is being supplied ?? Just try being realistic for a moment! If you want credible info about our military spending get it from our own Department or Ministry of Defense nt some list that may have been feed to the media by an ordinary Cadet or sagent!! Just visit our Online tv/video websites and watch the videos of the signing of the bill for the purchase of weapons worth billions of dollars! Dnt just belive poo you see! I guess u belived the list just because SA WAS RANKED FAR MORE HIGHER THAN NIGERIA!!! Get you acts together bro, you are being to argue out of point. Nigirea releases the deffense budget at the start of each year. The first one is is old but the other one is valubil due to it showing the budget accross a larg perriod of time. But yes both sourse are out dated. You don't have 6 frigats you got one and another converted US coast gaurd cutter and you have no subs at all no any planes to get more frigats or any subs in the meduim or long term yet, where do you see 139 aircraft in nigeria. You don't have any predtor drones yet and drones are actually very low on maintaince. I posted a some time ago your milltary budget. |

agaugust: great job henry. nice photo. its my first time to see these nigerian made up-armour for the combat vehicles
lots of military weapons are now been produced in nigeria especially armoured vehicles. there is also a plan for DICON to locally produce for our army nigerian made artillery howitzer guns 105mm and 155mm in a joint venture with china. they will soon conclude details of the agreement and sign.
it will be like a licensed production stage at the beginning, but a future plan for nigerian versions designed locally is being considered.
also, the nigerian army mortar weapons cannot be counted by anyone again, DICON has been producing mortars and trust nigerian army not to release numbers produced to the public so that we can update our knowledge. inside info says nigerian army mortars are now over 1,000 units and we stopped importing finally because we now produce it at home.
the nigeria airforce successfully repairs and maintains all its F-7 Jets at home over there in nigeria. also, the NAF engineers have experimented successfully to almost totally dis-assemble and re-assemble our F-7 Jets to see the production engineering by doing a type of reverse engineering experiment. that is something we could not do with our british jaguar jets becasue the white-man always hides his technology fundamentals from the black-man. china does not care as long as you pay for any local re-production you wish to do and sign an agreement.
nigeria is hoping to produce in future, a local light jet fighter/trainer, something in between an alpha jet and an F-7. that is the main reason for totally avoiding european and american new jet fighters, you will never be allowed to copy or clone an american F-16 Jet or a french Rafale Jet. all those countries have just been getting billions of dollars from nigeria selling weapons to us since 1960, they never transfered any high level technology to us even if we want to pay for it.
so nigeria has now turned to do deals for heavy weapons modern technology transfer by joint ventures and licensing with china and india. that is two contries who quickly advanced in modern weapons production by doing deals with russia. the americans and europeans will not let anyone copy their best weapons, all they want is to keep selling to you and collecting billions of dollars forever, but nigeria has found a solution to that with china and india, and those coutries are ranked as number 3 and number four military power coutries of the world today with their weapons.
its only a matter of time, nigeria will be competing with south africa in the weapons market, and we will do better in marketing especially in our west african sub-region, and because of our regular participation in many international war zones, nigeria made weapons will be tested in real battle and its success will attract foreign customers.
nigeria is fast heading for greater levels !! Why would you desghine a version if you producing a liscenent version. Nigeria dose have the need to replace a larger number of there curreny artie sytems. The motar is a basic infantry wepaon. The F7 is very simpily air craft. The F7 is a poor choice, for a test bed on a light trainer/light attack air craft. Both russia, china and a number of others produce better platforms. And you would still need a lot of out side technical aide. Both india and china did a lot of dealls with westtern countries. China even bought a old brit carrier. Isreal buys then builds amrican sytems. It not that they won't let you. They just charge a lot more. India uses SLBMs not ICBMs. Just so people don't worry about Nigeria build ICBMs. SLBM are just ultra long rang artliary. You still got some way to go. Nigeria is mainaly building coppies or modfied coppies of other countrys sytems. And still imports a lot of advance componts. And you spend very littil on RnD. Your nation budget is still still 3-4 times lower than South africas national budgeteven though how population is 55million compard to nigerias 170million. You still a lot to do. |

all4naija: I am talking about inequality in your society. Stop given excuse with Nigeria in comparison to dodge my question. You can tell that to World Bank who reported SA has the world worst inequality.
The fact is that your society is not organized is about the blacks who go about doing nothing than attack people and steal from them on the streets. The same people who resort to violence just to make their grievances heard. Have you forgotten Marakina massacre so soon? The incriminating ignorance about other Africans in your society. There is mass crime going on in your townships and you refused to accept that. It only speaks about how you take matter lightly in the light of facts. I can't stand and continue to listen to this your bogus comment challenging the integrity of the World Bank without any evidence!
Thank you. where did i make a excuse. show me. i just pointed out that our poor are better off than the poor in nigeria. are you saying i am wrong. so what about nigeria then. where BH kills and kidnaps to make a point. people rob ships at see, people steal fuel from fuel limes, your own secruty force exute people in both nigeria and when the deployed to serrileon. people in glass houses should not throw rocks at others. |

all4naija: What an excuse! A thing any blind person can quickly spot in your comment. How does attacking people on the street deter more people from coming into your country? This your comment opens something about the way you people view immigrants. It would be civilized and right thing to do by fixing your porous borders and put up disciplined security men to watch them. And, depot those who coming illegally than attacking them on the streets.
Xenophobia is very alive in your society and I can even see that in your comment.
However, South Africa will be the least country I will ever set my foot on in my entire life. Even if it the life sustainer on earth, I would rather die than be there. where do you see a exuse i was just pointing out nigeria is the last place that should complian why do you assume he is a illeagel. there are millions(not joking) of legal immergrants in sa. 2 things we arrest thousand of border crossesers but can only deport them. once back in there home country they can just try to cross again why dose nigeria not imploy it's well trained security forces to deal with BH and stop them from kidnapping people. i even said there is a lot of xenophibia. so what is your point then why you all ways talking about SA |

Henry120: Andrew, the 58meter boat are missile crafts( I also posted a pic here). Nigeria retains a couple of them. We acquired them, some from germany, some from france. They inspired the design of the NNS andoni. I will try to find the pic on beegal but the one I am talking about is the small patrol boat that is armend with 1 MG. |

MsDarkSkin: He planted the seeds sir. On top of native south africans who naturally wanted to liberated. it gave them inspiration. If you think this movement only stopped there you are deluded.
jamaicans were LIVID when they realized the treatment of native south africans was so inhumane and worse that it was on south african soil.
my ppl were active from refusing to trade with SA, to making songs and protesting against white oppression. Some even did this all while IN South Africa. For a larg portion of the early aparthied there was only minor restiance. By the time the strugel began he was a disstant memormry. Yes and the white people in europe where doing the same or more. Only cuba and the USSR only took SA on with any real force. Sad thing is. Those sanctions hardly phased the white people since we just made every thing we could not buy. Actualy it thanks to those sanctions we so industrized. The result was the oposite of what you think happended. Of course blacks africans sufferd a lot due to sactions since there was no need for a large labour pool. And once again how did they influnce the struggel. No one in SA knows who you talking about never mind malcom X. Do you know the biggest uprissing had nothing to do with ANC, PAC, black conssious extra. But where inpropuit events by people that had zero knowldeg of the people you speak of. |

Henry120: The essence of putting those pics is for all of us to better understand what the nigerian army has in it's inventory.
Besides we know that many countries field the spartans, of which britain is the most high profile user. There is is a nice pic on beegal of a in servis nigerian spartan. Would have been a better choice for a pic. Along with a brit version. |

MsDarkSkin: Andrewza you want me to discuss Garvey and south africa as well?
Bob Marley ALONE mashed up Zimbabwe/SA much less Garvey and you dare run your mouth to say there was no impact. MSCHEW
Selective memory. I'll never respect that! Did he not die before any of our struggel heros where even born? Considring non of them had any affect on the end of aparthied you can go all you want. |
