Henry120: It makes sense. Unfortunately i'm not in charge of procurement at DHQ.
However let it be known, as a military Doctrine, Nigeria has and would always continue to carry out a diverse procurement Policy.
Nigeria had one of the most internationally diversified and balanced defense procurement strategies. Nigeria acquired arms from about eight suppliers during 1978-82, tying Zaire as the most diversified sub-Saharan state (see table 20, Appendix). Its largest supplier during that period, West Germany, provided only about one-third of its US$845 million total. This diversified pattern became even more pronounced in the mid-1980s. During 1983-87, Nigeria imported military matériel valued at US$1.5 billion from about ten major suppliers--more than any other African state, and Italy, its largest supplier, accounted for only 23 percent.
And,

Henry120: Nigeria is not at war. Sure there are military operations ongoing in 3 states in the North-East, but the rest of the Country is functioning like every other normal developing state would.
This is the mistake most of you make.
7 billion represents an increase in budget for the military, but it isn't a war time budget. It is still war. America is at war and no fighting in any state. The being at war has to do with the operational tempo. |

And we could acquire a death star. Because I said so. |

Henry120: At $7 billion for 2014, it's the biggest in Sub-saharan Africa.
However, we would never know, until we do know. That's for one of the biggest militaries with a lot of capital expenditures busy fighting a war. It is not that big. |

Henry120: Wrong, all vehicles are fitted with C2 systems. From Soft-skins to Tanks.
Standardisation can only be achieved with a strong local industry. There is a reason for diversification of procurement assets. Your budget is not that big. I mean sure a radio may be fitted. But I doubt ever 4x4 has a blue force tracker for example. |

Henry120: Simple...... Transfer ICP and DCD to Nigeria. If we add these to the Igirigi and Proforce we have, we can then ensure a nice standardisation regime. Is there not all ready a deal to build a few factories in Nigeria. Nigeria should stop playing around they buy stuff at the numbers SA gets for say prototyping and testing. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by andrewza: 9:23am On Mar 24, 2015 |
Henry120: M.I.C guarantees standardisation.
Only difference is a Nigerian motorised/ mechanised battalion would have a mix of different vehicles. You don't want a mix though. It means that you need more spares, that means more money, more logiscal trucks, more chance somthi g gets lost and it effectis the mobility since each vehicle has different range and cross country mobility. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by andrewza: 5:03am On Mar 24, 2015 |
Henry120: It simply because the N.A doesn't have a large local defence industry and operates a diversified defence procurement policy.
Armoured vehicle productions are still to sparse to fill the gaps. Besides, it's expensive to do that.
No country apart from the U.S, can deploy full mechanised battalions.
N.A can well fill 3 mechanised battalions, it has enough vehicles to field 5, however a lot of factors would first have to be taken into consideration. SA deploy full mechanized battalions with around 100 ifv or apc if it is motorised. All of the same type. It is not that hard. Standizing is actually cheaper and improves your logistical support. |

agaugust: Gripen is NOT faster than F-7, they have same speed.
Rather F-7 climbs to higher altitude than Gripen with extra 2km ceiling advantage for F-7 especially in a cannon battle dog fight.
Also the F-7 has two 30 mm cannon while Gripen has only one 23 mm cannon. One hist from F-7 on Gripen will tear the Gripen into pieces, F-7 has 3 times more cannon firepower over the Gripen.
Yes 2 missiles when F-7 is traveling 850 km, but 5 missiles when F-7 is traveling half that distance.
When both aircraft have used chaff and flares to waste their missiles, the F-7 will demolish Gripen with superior flight altitude advantage and 3 times greater cannon firepower .
You don't judge an aircraft by it's name or public image, jets fight according to their technical capabilities as machines.
NAF has 35 km range missile on F-7 plus all the other advantages I listed above.
In combat, the SAAF will NOT be able to defeat NAF, except spirit angels from heaven come down to your rescue....and they won't like your Homosex.ual pilots....ya just a bunch of sinners, Gays, R.apists, etc ! . Gripen is a bit faster. Cannons effect range is beyond 2km. SAAF is a low altuide master. F7 will run out first. Even fitted out as a bomber the gripen can match the F7. In a dog fight the better aglity of the gripen will insure it wins. No it does not. The SAM verstion is 35km. 6 gripens could wipe you out. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 4:11am On Mar 24, 2015 |
agaugust: Both F-7 and Gripen have poor maneuverability.
F-7 has superior altitude over the Gripen.
F-7NI with near BVR missiles like NAF has, will shoot down a SAAF Gripen, South Africa parades poorly armed Gripen jets, that's why you will lose air combat fighting Nigeria.
SAAF is over hyped by Hollywood style videos . Did you not watch the video from the air show? The gripen is super agile able to pull insane turns and maintain speed. By 2km. Still in weapons range. You will miss every shot. Since you useing a missile we have the seekerhead for. NAF. A bloody joke even Angola in the 80s was better. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 4:02am On Mar 24, 2015 |
agaugust: Still won't save SAAF Gripen with 25 km range missile from NAF F-7 with 35 km range near BVR missile.
Case closed . Only you Thu k it is 35km. Any case we have your seekerhead. We can tailor make counter measures just for it. |

jl115: dude! the a109 isnt a transport helicopter, its a LUH the oryx can carry 20x the man power of the a109 it still wouldnt matter, a luh can carry out way more tasks than the oryx without being modifide. It would be idiotic to use an oryx for anti poaching, surveillance ect ect if you could use the a109 for less than half the price Why? The Oryx can carry all the need systems. But then so good a lighter gazzel. We have no need for a LUH but a light tactical chopper is needed. |

EVarn: there is no use limping around with a heavy and sluggish aircraft like the gripen, when you could achieve superior range and maneoverability with a F7. The gripen can out manvour the F7 fly greater distances and carry more. All at the same time. |

patches689: No augustus
Thats not how the us army works
You take your asvab aptitude test
They offer you role specific contracts based on yout score amd before you are even in the army
If you want to be infantry, you get offered an 11B contract before you even step on the bus
If you want to be involved in finanance you get offerd 36B
If you were a pmc involved with former us servicemen you would know this
Why dont you know this?
You are a serial lair - so pathetic that you need to invent myths to try to argue.
The only thing that i worry about is the delusions you have We apply for our choice in mustering half way through basics. Then around the last quarter you go for a interview and then get your mustering. Some have tests like infantry that need to be done first. Then there those that join in with a mustering. Normally divers, mechanical and specialised jobs like lawyers, environmental protection, extra. Some join in with a different rank like say a lawyer or doctor would be officers and what not. The army would not waist a good accountant to the infantry. |
