The uranium deposits present in Nigeria is very high grade and can be easily enriched and decayed to produce highly radioactive nuclear warheads.
Why do you think everyone wants to invade Nigeria?
We have the means to enriching and have weapons grade in stock. Do you have either.

really?,an airguard that has the capacity to carry, sustain and discharge most of the existing modern aerial missiles is worth comparing to any other fighter jet available on global market.
The F7 is a resilient dragon and can be upgraded to enhance operational capacity, performing many of the functions of some 4th generation fighter jets.
And what about the mig 21 lancer.

There are many accountants in US Army combatant infantry.

You don't travel beyond your ANC cage.
Nope. You may have a accountanted who was infantry or a accountanted In a infantry formation. Or a accountanted who was infantry in a infantry formation that due to circumstance is out the wire. But that is rare very rare.

Regardless he was saying you said you where a accountanted.

Cost per hour:
Oryx=R60000
A109=<R30000

www.iol.co.za/the-star/arms-deal-choppers-not-utilised-1.1576630#.VQ9B5NKUfIQ
Oryx carries over 3 times the man power for only double the cost. Point made.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 5:49pm On Mar 22, 2015
jl115:
You cant compare the Oryx and A109.The A109 is a small LUH were as the Oryx is a medium transport helicopter.
And SAAFs A109 as they are fitted currently, can carry out tasks such as light passenger and cargo transport, patrolling and reconnaissance, liaison and command, medical evacuation, even light attack and antitank, escort and area suppression.

If you want to do that with the Oryx you are going to have to spend millions on modifications, not to mention the impact it will have on its primary role as a medium/troop tranporter.

And the operating costs for the Oryx per hour is more than double than that of an A109.
In terms of run cost and complexity they pretty close. All those jobs can be done by the Oryx. Most of the ground work was done when developing the rooivalk. The Oryx can all ready load a 20mm has a door gun. All systems the French and other pumas can have so can ours.

A cheaper to run simply to fly chopper was what we needed. The A109 is none of those.

Yeah, RSA surrendered at UN peace meeting last time
? We agreed to agreement where all none Angolan forces would leave Angola. Including Cuba. They had more men and longer distance hence there time table was greater. But they all so agreed to pull out. So how was is a surrender.

Through thousands of kilometres of nothing they will have to March. Being harrased all the way. SA fights a mobile warfare doctrine. Never hold ground longer than need only fight when you want to where you want to. Why do you think we need the largest shooting range in the southern hemisphere and The second largest. Our army is about mobility.

Cobra is for evasion, dog fight and gun fight.

You call it a trick only because your Gripen cannot do cobra

How does dropping your air speed to stall levels, maintain your flight path and exposeing more of aircraft including the pilot to danger aid in a fight.

1. Yes, a twin engine air-superiority fighter like the Su30 should be able to defeat the Gripen.
2. Video's dont prove anything. Provide statistics
3. Our missiles are better (i have shown this)
4. You dont work with anyone, you live in your parents basement.

Give us stats augugubgugug

No one is talking about Su30's... we are talking about F-7's and we want to know how you prove it is more maneuverable than the Gripen

And as for video's... show us the F-7 doing this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHwVJY5TyW0&t=42
Something to take in to acount is the gripen both turning out of guns aim or a lock from a seeker while maintaining speed. The flankers cobra drops the air speed to stall speed and does not manvour any where. It is a trick. Like a my um boats ability to do donoughts. Not usefully in combat at all.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 3:52pm On Mar 22, 2015
agaugust:
Su-30 Flanker was NOT built for air shows or aerobatics, it was built for combat and air superiority. At air shows, every combat aircraft displays the tactics it will use to win real life combat. Cobra movement shows how Su-30 will evade enemy missiles or turn it's gun on an enemy, it also means in ground attack mode an Su-30 can stand almost stationary in the air like a helicopter.

Any Gripen jet that attempts super-maneuverability will be broken into pieces by it's own force of movement.

No 4th generation aircraft in this world can beat an Su-30 in cannon/gun fight

SAAF Gripen jet is crap....a waste of billions of dollars
.
Yet the Cobra trick is only done for shows and it has never been explained how it is of any use in combat.

Yes i agree 110%, this is precisely the point i was trying to make, even though we might not need the A109s now, the need may arise in the future, as you said anything can happen, thus its exactly for this reason(as you pointed out) we need frigates, tanks,GBADS,Gripens,Subs ect ect to be prepared for an all out conventional war(which could come sooner rather than later by the look of things).
Need is based on role and the Oryx can do every thing the a109 can do and better. There is no need for the A109. A cheaper easier to maintain and fly chopper would have been far more useful.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 11:18am On Mar 22, 2015
jl115:
Well in that case do we need Frigates? why not have only OPVs, if all we are doing is anti piracy missions?
Do we need Gripens? Why not stick with the Cheetahs, they are still the most advanced fighter in Southern Africa.
Do we need Olifant tanks? A Ratel 90 or Rooikat can dismantle any Tank in Southern Africa
Do we need Subs?
Do we need GBADS?

Man do we even need a defence force, i mean we are the most stable country in africa and our police force will defeat any of our neighbours armies?
Anti piracy is a secondary role for the navy. Primary duty of the navy is to protect our maritime internist. A OPV can not do that against any Thing but OPV and smaller ships. Hence we have frigates and submarines.

The cheetahs where not up to the task vs the more modern fighters in Africa like the flanker.

Tanks represent our ground force derterent and nothing more.

The ratel 90 is the FSV of the mechanized infantry.

The rooikat are our reccon and raiders.

We should of kept a few Elands to act as scout cars and light armour.

Subs are a massive force muiltpliyer and allow us to threaten any one who dares to try and interfere with our martime intrisits.

GBADs is needed since the air force can not be every where at once and groups d forces need to defend themselves.

No we don't need a defence force. We could easily pull out of our peace keeping duties and build up a strong g paramilitary police element for the tasks we do, do. Thing is that 10 years from now or even 1 month from now we may need a strong defence force. And then it is to late to build one up. The defence force is like insurance. You pay for it for no gain for years and hope to never need it. But come the day you need it and you don't have it you are screwed.

It transported supplies aswell, just go watch the video mate.
It did not carry much. All so parachutes. The A109 was used because we have them not because we need them.

Most of the roads were washed away in Mozambique mate!some of those villages were only accessible by helicopter.
The A109 was doing CnC and searching and rescue. It did not need to land.

Job could of been done with a second A109 aswell, dont know were you plan to land the Caravan though.
A road is good enough. It has enough range to operate well out of the flood zone.

surely you have never seen gripen in the air. It is fast, manoeuvrable and powerful. The gripen has advantage over SU-3O because of its seize and detection system. Gripen is as well a stealth fighter and thus I will give it a win over the SU-30.

The ranking will go as follows:

South Africa- Gripen
Angola- SU-30
Nigeria- F7
F7 should not be on the list.

What do you mean non existent? it was there the whole time, go read the description of the video, there were 2 oryx and 1 A109 on this particular relief effort, thus all the images where you see the 2 Oryx in flight, it means the footage was taken from the A109.
But it was not needed. The job could have been done by a second Oryx or even a caravan far better.

When missiles are wasted and finished, jet fighters turn to cannon/gun fight. No 4th generation aircraft in this world will defeat an Su-30 Flanker in a gun fight where super-maneuverability is the ONLY deciding factor for victory.

Show us how Gripen jet will handle Su-30 cobra movement-super maneuverability ! Angola will demolish South Africa in less than 1 minute !

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujenrmoeALE
.
That trick and it is a trick will not allow the SU to evade a lock. In fact the drop of speed means it becomes a easier target. The cobra is a air show trick that is all.

IMO we should have bought both

Same number of helo's - just half LUH and half BK's or Gazelle

Time will tell though.
To many difrent choppers. Gazelle is all so cheaper to maintain.
Foreign AffairsRe: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by andrewza: 12:28pm On Mar 21, 2015
Patchesagain:
Gazelle is not as versatile and has less internal space.

Its a great tactical helo, but the LUH is a better all-rounder.
But do we need a LUH. We need a tactical chopper not a mini transport chopper.

As i was saying (before i got banned for no reason), i dont think those antennas are new, used to lve less than 2km from 17sqds base, thus i saw Oryx and A109 helicopters on a daily bases, and all of them sported those antennas, not really sure what they are for(might just be for radio or GPS),but they could be new as Project Drummer 2 is drawing to an end, as for the A109 i quite like the A109 as a Light utility helicopter, no doubt its had its problems as i dont think the original A109 was well suited for the african environment and led to the grounding of SAAF A109s fleet, but after a few modifications i think SAAFs A109 proved its self this year when it did an exceptional job providing humanitarian aid when floods hit Mozambique.

oh....And very nice pics btw!
Could be drummer 2. I suspect they radios. If saaf is like san the go redundant on all every thing.

So I guess Italy and Sweden arent serious militaries

Whats wrong with it?

Its an exellent platform and its only problem is that it is somewhat of a hangar queen (which can be said for practically all modern western aircraft)
Suffers in hot and dry air. Good for europe does not mean good for Africa. The gazelle is the chopper I would want. Simple and France knows how to build Africa tough.

I was wondering about the antennas on the nose of the Oryx Helicopter. Any idea what they are there for?

The Super-puma remains my ideal Naval utility Helicopter. Perfect for a variety of roles(ASW, SAR,utility,VBSS, fire control) carries 20 fully equipped troops.

I've never hidden my disgust for the A109, it's a useless Helicopter and serious militaries don't fly that crap, except for VIP role.
No idea. They could be for any thing from a radio to high end EW gear.

To big for general purpose use. The average frigate strugels to fit 1. The lynx is best. In my eys. But yes they are great birds.
