EVarn: Enemies you cant see,but that you can locate. If you can neither see nor locate, then you end up wasting time, effort and ammunition. let me break it down: an invading army from botswana marches in force against south africa,on getting to southern botswana, they stop and prepare to launch a mortar bombardment into south africa from the border town of Gaborone, they are targeting a weapon nest belonging to the SANDF,but they can neither see nor do they know where the ammo storage facility is located, they simply know that the SANDF has an armoury in the North West area. What do you think would happen if they start launching mortars into SA?,the heavy mortars could land in Mmabatho or Rutenburg or Mamelodi or Pretoria or Klerksdorp or Soweto os Tsakane or Johannesburg or even potchefstroom!,but at the end of the day,the targetted armoury would be safe and sound. Let's keep it as Botswana. Before they move they will need to recon the area. Small teams will probe and scout out the terrain and enemy. So now when Botswana opens fire they know that in that general area is a SA milltary camp. There are no bases in the area. So in a suprise attack the target would be camps. These are not big and not built to be defended against a attack. Another method is the use of a observer. The most destructive system in use by the military is the radio. Useing BH against Nigeria. A lone man could set up in a concealed postion and direct the mortar fire. If your mortar can see the enemy then you doing something wrong. |

agaugust: Nigerian army had artillery cover for that range up to 26 km range, play the video again.
We defeated 20 attacks on that base and killed 1,000 enemy fighters while we lost only 1.
That Nigerian base is perfect, the commandant has been promoted and medals won by those men !
Even NATO will not beat our record . Yet those guns where firing only 9km out. |

lezz: the BBC still sites us as the most important country in Africa.
Besides most of the tanks you fought with in that war were imported from the US and UK.
All the powerful western countries helped you in the border war because of the worry Russia was promoting communism there, just as the Russians and Cuban were helping tiny Angola.
Your history in nairaland is marked with denial and argument. You're not capable of honest debate.
American were supplying your overhyped army with logistical supplies from its bases in Zaire. I'm not even taking of thousands of mercenaries. Go to sleep, patches. US tanks? We had centurion tanks no US tanks or AFV where ever used. |

EVarn: a mortar team cannot bombard a target they cant see,to blow up konduga's weapon storage,a lot of accuracy and precision would be needed.fortunately,if you cant see or locate, then you cant hit. The entire point of a mortar is to fire on targets you can not see. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 7:19pm On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn: indeed, but not directly from the centre of the FOB. Even if it is on the front line. A place no experienced gunner wants to be it still means a mortar team could sneak close enough. They only need one lucky hit to causes a massive explosion. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 5:54pm On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn: I didnt say that it is a storage room,i said "store".Like i said earlier, those crates were probably in transit to another FOB,or being repatriated back to the barrack. The airport yes, that was a major transit hub but the second base was not a transit hub but the only base that did it right where the guys in the abondon school. They had one room for ammo so you can there For keep accommodation away from that area. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 5:50pm On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn: you do know how large konduga is right? Close enough that the Nigerian arty could fire 9km and hit hostile targets. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 5:12pm On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn: the store is withing a FOB that withstood 13 assaults{8 of which involved tanks and attilery from the enemy side},how safer can it be? It not a storerage room. They either in the open or in a normal building. Ever thought BH where more focused on the front. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 5:11pm On Apr 11, 2015 |
Henry120: You cannot be lucky 13 times in a row.
"What sort of luck is that?". I mean BH needs to lucky. They just need one bomb to land close enough and the base goes boom. During the barrel at goma a stray rebel machine gun round hit the field kitchen. The fighting was Kilometres away. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 5:07pm On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn: BH fighters can never even get within 10km radius of the store, talk less of scoring a lucky shot. Never say never. And you do know how far 10km is right. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 5:05pm On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn: Those crates were most probably in transit. Still needs to be secured safely. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 5:02pm On Apr 11, 2015 |
Henry120: There is a reason why after 13 attacks with AA, RPG, tanks and mortar the base hasn't gone boom.
It's simply because Ammo is well stored. Luck maybe. The ammo was in the open and accomadstion area. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 4:58pm On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn: You do know how big konduga FOB is right?,the chance of launching a mortar into the ammo storage is extremely low, even if it is a range of 10km{which is a scarce commodity for boko haram},moreover, terrain matters a lot, konduga FOB is on an elevated plain,as you can see in the video. It takes one lucky shot. Just one. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 4:57pm On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn: As i said, there is low risk of accidental detonation because the storage facility is simply too distant to the outer perimeter where their is risk of mortar or attilery being fired. Considering that ammunitions are regularly being moved,it would make sense for ammo to be stacked outside, especially if those ammunitions were recently delivered or are in transit to another frontline base. I mean a fire As in a normal fire. Even if it is being moved it should be stored away. It is a freaking base not a tinny camp some where. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 11:06am On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn: The position where the ammo are stacked is quite distant from the outer perimeter of the FOB,also it is on an elevated slope and out of range of low level projectile,so it is technically impossible for stray mortar to hit the ammo storage. Moreover, topography must be considered, storing ammo in trenches and bunkers may be dangerous as the soil component of the north eastern region is extremely sulphurus. it would also reduce mobility of ammunitions. You do know what a mortar is right? Because it don't care about terrain and they have a range of 2km for the small ones and above 10km for the big ones. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 10:53am On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn: And who is to say that there arent bunkers hidden around the location?,surely you dont expect the military to air such sensitive and strategic ammo depots and defense positions on a public video,it would be like handing over the blueprint of the garrison to the enemy Then those bunkers where not on the from line. If you have decacted ammo storage area then use it. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 10:29am On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn: What is peasantly about them?,surely you can see that those guys in the pictures were not in a combat atmosphere.moreover, some of the guys in the background belong to the Civilian Joint Task Force, and are simply assisting the military in keeping stock of ammunitions and other miscellanous materials. One fire and the base goes boom. There is reason Ammo is kept in a magazine or bunker or any where but in the open and laying around a accomdastion area. Safety. I would understand random gear by people's trommels or lockers hell on there bunks even. But stacks of ammo. What would happen if a mortar hit the area with all that ammo. |

jl115: Firstly a definition is a definition,Nigeria is in a civil war FACT!so very sorry mate!!
"Nigeria's economy has been growing steady at 6-7% oil price just got it down to around 5&. The economy is greatly diversified, you much Oyibo trash." Nigeria's expected growth was revised from 7% to 4,8% in 2015,and even that at this stage seems to be an overestimate! And no!! Your economy is not diversified 80% of your National income is dependent on Oil!!So you better hope the oil prices start rising...and fast!!
And btw our economy grew by 4.1% in the last quarter of 2014.
"Funny when I read all your online tabloids after Nigeria was declared the biggest economy in africa. I was atually shocked that it took many South Africans by surprise, both individuals and institutions."
Jap!I was shocked,I was shocked that a country with 180 million people and huge oil reserves took so fvking long to pass a country with only 50 million people and No! oil reserves! Technically there GDP had supased us years ago. Just took them years to figure it out. |

I never gave a figure of CIA mercenaries that came to help you but they were there on your behalf and even dropping air supplies from American base in Zaire. By proof I mean can your source proof it. I can put down a source that says the US military is invading Texas. There are lots of wak jobs out there. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 4:46pm On Apr 05, 2015 |
AugustineAgain: You don't know what a mercenary means.
The source says clearly those foreigners were 60% of the SADF army, not UNITA.
You also don't know what UNITA means or what SADF means.
"3. Contrary to popular believe, most SADF soldiers fighting the Bushwar, were non-white volunteers, with as much as 60% by the closing years of the war."

AugustineAgain: Your very own source says South Africa does ordinary ASSEMBLY not ,manufacture of Ford engines.
The assembly plant opened in 2011, Ratel IFV was built in 1980s, surely not with engines assembled in 2011
SA imports Ford engines in pieces from USA and assemble the engine parts. Stop freaking yourself out dude ! . The ratel does not use a Ford engine. I was just pointing out we build engines. |

AugustineAgain:
Yes they were white mercenaries from Zimbabwe, Portugal, and USA.
Also, 60% of South African army in battle during Angolan Bush war, were actually black men, mostly Angolan citizens.
South Africa was hiring foreign white and black men as mercenaries for the bush war, stop claiming glory by stealing as usual, the 60% glory of SADF belongs to mercenaries most of whom were black Angolans. SADF was giving out it's army uniform freely to foreign mercenaries that saved South Africa from the young hand of an inexperienced Cuban army of teenagers and girls, beautiful young girls
"3. Contrary to popular believe, most SADF soldiers fighting the Bushwar, were non-white volunteers, with as much as 60% by the closing years of the war."
https://sites.google.com/site/sabushwarsite/interesting
See Cuban soldier girls mocking South African army of mercenaries . I don't think you know what a merc is. No they where Angolans in UNITA. Not Part of the SADF. UITA kept on needing to be rescued. UNITA is not SADF. But yes there where many blacks and coloured solders in the SA or SWA army and police. 32 battlion was the only unit to employ Angolans and it was 1 battalion. All so all members where SADF and got SA citizenship. |

SADF used foreign mercenaries hired to help South African army in bush war.
"There was always a sprinkling of whites originating from countries like Great Britain, the old Rhodesia, Portugal and the USA amongst its leadership cadre, although in the latter stages of its existence this shrank to only a few. "
http://flecha.co.uk/ There where not mercs. They where members of SADF. |

agaugust: Bwahahahaha
Your own source actually confirms NO MOKOPA MISSILE FOR SANDF !
"On the other hand, SAAF chief Lieutenant General Carlo Gagiano saw only limited short-term opportunity for Mokopa with the land services. Most armies won't use it optimally, he noted. Land-to-land targeting at 5.5km, as with Ingwe, is already a very long range for target acquisition. You cant's see much further in the dust and glare of the battlefield. With Mokopa you go over-the-horison and then your communications and command-and-control has to be very advanced.
Wessels adds the SAAF is interested in the system for Lynx “but want us to succeed somewhere else first”, as it does not have the cash on hand to pay for the integration costs. This is in line with comments made by SAAF chief Lieutenant General Carlo Gagiano on that subject."
The whole 10km long range idea of Mokopa is actually a foolish project idea of Soweto mumus, it cannot work on battlefield, I have always said South African's noise about weapon range like artillery and etc in land battle is foolishness that will fail in battlefield realities, now South African air force chief of staff agrees with Augustine ! .
SOURCE : Defenceweb news on Mokopa PGM.....your own source....thank you bro ! Wow you foolish. Firstly the army does not see much use for it and saaf was talking about getting it for the lynx. No 10km is limited in land use. The rooivalk can fly. |

My source says MAXIMUM EFFECTIVE RANGE = 35 km
The difference is that my source goes further to show maximum range, yours stopped at just range.
