You cousin is lucky. I watched my mum cry severally cos of the embarrassment she received from my dad. I watched how my dad would cross certain things off the market list to reduce the little amount needed for feeding. It got so bad that I'd go to my dad's superstore to steal cash just so my mum could have some money in her purse( that I'm not proud of). She was just a secondary school teacher then. My dad has never bought anything for my mum. She worked hard, got promoted , became an academic supervisor etc. Fast forward to 2014: she retired n received her gratuity. Meanwhile dad who was a rich banker then, lost his job n was duped in a business deal he ventured into. Now mum is the one in charge. No more tears. She now runs the show. The jeep she bought, dad drives it. Everywhere they go, mum tells whoever cares tho listen that dad bought the car n not her. She has begun her building project n will soon become a landlady. She doesn't hesitate to give whenever dad needs cash. She has forgotten how it was. She has forgotten how this same man who is greatly benefitting from her now, used to abuse her n call her lazy n a liability. Lol. Now who's the liability? She doesn't hide her money from her "beloved'' husband. I get mad at times n wished she would retaliate. But my mum would have none of that. She now has more thasn enough wrappers n jewellries. No more tears. Hmmmmmmmmm I believe that's how marriage should be. So pls advise your cousin to do what she can. She's even blessed with money n can comfortably provide for herself n kids. If need be,let her do same for her husband. Things will change for the best someday. And of course, now that mum has some money, dad is not even contributing a dime anymore. Lol. Mum still believes he will change some day. But as we wait for that day to come, mum is smoothly running the home n everyone is happy.
God bless your mum real good

Politics / Re: I Never Said I’ll Not Contest Second Term, Says Jonathan by anibestlala(m): 4:49pm On Feb 22, 2015
Omooba77:
President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday said that he was quoted out of context in the statement he made on running only a single term.

The president said this when he had an interactive session with Islamic Clerics from South West region at the State House, Marina, Lagos.

“I need to clarifiy this otherwise I do not need to talk about it. This matter continues to come up.”

He said those who have been playing the tape where it was shown that he had pledged to run only a single term had not been sincere.

The President said that what happened was that late President Umaru Yar’Adua came out with political reforms when he, Jonathan was the Vice president.

Jonathan said that he was the chairman of the interparty group of the committee set up by late Yar’adua to agree on the president’s proposal for a single tenure.

He said the statement he made in Addis Ababa was within the context of the proposal.

“I made that statement in Addis Ababa, when I addressed Nigerians. I made that statement after I had won elections.”

He said that he told the audience in Addis that that recommendation would move the country forward.

“I was advising Nigerians in Addis Ababa and I made mention of this issue of seven years of single tenure as being the best for the country.”

“I now added that if Nigerians will agree to run a single tenure of seven years I will not contest. That was the statement I made.”

He said that he still believed in that recommendation in order to prevent the waste of resources during re-election bids of incumbents.

Jonathan said the section of the broadcast which featured former president Obasanjo took place in 2011 during the PDP presidential primary.

He said that he did not want to join issues with Obasanjo because the party members were there for primaries and “I just wanted to win my primaries”.

He reaffirmed his earlier stand that if Nigerians accept his proposal of a single term of seven years, he would not re-contest.

“Those who are advertising on television that I said I was not going to contest a second tenure should play the whole tape.”

Jonathan said people were diminishing the office of the president because of politics.

He further said that even with the past campaign for the 2015 polls almost concluded, if Nigerians would accept that single tenure of seven years, he would not bother to contest the election.

He thanked the clerics for giving him the opportunity to clarify the statement and urged them to continue to pray for the unity and prosperity of the country,

Earlier the Chief Imam of Oriwu Central Mosque, Ikorodu,Llagos, Sheikh Oshoala Ajagbemokeferi, had urged the president to carry every Nigerian along in his administration.

The Imam pledged support for the programmes of the administration and urged the government to conduct a free, fair election to win the favour of God.

Politics / Re: I’ll Flee Nigeria If APC Wins —Bode George by anibestlala(m): 12:23pm On Feb 17, 2015
In this interview with ENIOLA AKINKUOTU, a national leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Bode George, speaks on the recent comments of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and other national issues

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says President Goodluck Jonathan plans to perpetuate himself in government like the former President of Cote d’Ivoire, Laurent Gbagbo. What do you think of this comment?

He (Obasanjo) says he is a Christian and as a Christian, it is emphasised in the New Testament of the Bible where Christ said judge not so that you will not be judged. But his judgment is no longer about the policies of Jonathan. He has gone down to the extent of saying Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) will jail you (Jonathan), that is why you are afraid. I am holding my breath because an African setting, you talk to elders with respect and that is why I am trying to get the right words to describe my feelings. Baba (Obasanjo) is not a young man. He was Head of State at 39. So averagely, he should be about 84 or 85 and I am requesting that he should graciously fade away into the midnight. In the Bible, Romans chapter 13 states clearly that we should pray for those in authority. It says pray for your leaders so that they don’t run aground. So, to me that is my own interpretation. If baba (Obasanjo) had attended the Council of State meeting in Abuja, where they were very well briefed, and that it was decided that only the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, that could pronounce a postponement and that he should go and come up with a decision and Jega addressed a press conference. Now to start comparing our President with Gbagbo in Cote d’Ivoire is unjust, unsavoury and unfair because what is the population of Ivory Coast? What are the tribal sentiments of Ivory Coast? Are they the same here? I want to plead with Baba. God has been kind to him and he has served his own time. I don’t want to conclude that his life will be like King Saul in the Bible. I pray it will not be so. Baba has played his role. No generation can finish any job. Nation building is a continuous exercise. You come, do your own and go back into history.

Apart from the issue of insecurity which Jega gave as the reason for the postponement of the elections, do you think INEC was ready to conduct the elections on February 14 and 28?

I granted an interview recently and there were two posers that I gave to Jega. Thank God Jega is a professor. He told us that there was an 88 per cent collection rate in Borno State where there is massive insurgency as well as in Yobe and Adamawa states. Here, where there is calmness and civility, only 30 something per cent of the populace had collected PVCs. It is just improving. I think as of last Friday over three million had collected as against 5.6 million. And he is saying we are ready. Without the Permanent Voter Cards, you are immediately disenfranchised. Ask Jega that as a professor, will it be fair to conduct an examination whereby you have (students who have) covered 80 per cent syllabus and another class where you have (students who have) covered only 30 per cent syllabus. Is it fair?

The other question is this issue of card readers. Have they been tested? I am talking as an electronic engineer of 48 years in practice. You just bought equipment from China and the last time it was tested was in China. Our own environment is not the same. Look at the vagaries of the temperature here from the swampy areas of the South and the savannah in the North. Who has tested the equipment? Now, I am not saying they will not all work but if there are almost 9,000 polling units in Lagos, is he saying all the 9,000 card readers will be functional? If the card readers fail to work in some polling units, what shall we do?

Why did the military surround former Governor Bola Tinubu’s house?

If Bola Tinubu finds his way into national government, I will go on exile. He hasn’t the temerity and the calmness of mind. They don’t even know what to do in power. Because the vice-president is his boy, he will just order that Bode George should be picked up. He said soldiers came to him but he must have been dreaming. When he said soldiers had surrounded his house, I drove down there because my house is not too far from there. I know the hierarchy of the military and its behaviour. That they surrounded his house is lie number one because on either side of his house are two buildings. There is also one at the back. So, I wondered where the soldiers were hiding. Why would you lie for public consumption? So when I got down there, I knew that his spin doctors were working. These days people go on the social media and the story went viral. Why would he (President Godluck Jonathan) from Abuja, be running after Bola? Let them be very careful about the statements they are making. More so, if Obasanjo is now linking Jonathan with what happened in Cote d’Ivoire and coup; not in this 21st Century. That is past and gone forever. No nation goes through this kind of tribulation twice and survive. We have had our own experience of Civil War and I pray that God does not direct our minds in that direction and our people have to watch their mouths.

The general perception in Lagos is that the governorship race is between yourself and Tinubu.

Absolutely not! In the PDP, no individual owns the party. I happen to have been the first national vice chairman, South-West PDP, and then became deputy national chairman South and then deputy national chairman for the whole country and having done that, they have honoured me that as long as I remain in the party, I remain a member of the Board of Trustees and I am the only one representing the South-West in the national caucus forever. That is a great honour in our party but I don’t decide who becomes a candidate. Primaries were conducted and in this particular case, the voice of the people became louder than anybody’s. I am not like Bola Tinubu, I don’t have the papers of the party in my pocket. I don’t even have a veto power. But the other side doesn’t practice democracy. We have friends that are members there. Jimi Agbaje has no godfather but will not behave like an authoritarian governor.

But Senator Musiliu Obanikoro said you were the one that imposed Agbaje.

That is absolute garbage, he knew he was lying. You know he came from their party and that is why he was saying it was me. He has now retracted the statement. We are now one indivisible party and we are ready for election. All the vagaries and all that happened during the primary was a test of the ability and the strength of our party and we listened to the voice of the people. The voice of the people is the voice of God.

Jonathan’s perception in the South-West is not as favourable as it was in 2011. There has been blame on you and other PDP Yoruba leaders for allowing Buhari to increase in popularity in the South-West.

If you had said this about two or three weeks ago, I would have agreed. I got these feelers straight to my face. People came to me and said they would vote for Agbaje but they will not vote for Jonathan because he had done nothing for us here. And I explained that there is a general misunderstanding of the concept of operation in this country. The long periods of military rule presupposed that the Head of State was responsible for everything and it is that same thinking that is responsible for this situation. We are all hands on deck explaining the differences between military governance and democratic governance.

Highly educated people, my age groups, were asking me this question but I explained to them that 60 per cent of the impact the President will have on you is through the federal allocation to your state. Does he give every state and every local government allocation? Yes. They collect it religiously every 30 days. In the area of security, he guarantees it. It is only three states in the North-East battling insecurity. There is peace and he guarantees that. What of infrastructure? All federal roads in Lagos from Alfred Rewane in Ikoyi all the way to Third Mainland Bridge and Ebute Meta are federal roads. Are they like the roads in Somolu and Akowonjo?

Secondly, the APC refused to participate in the National Conference. Since he (Buhari) has refused to debate, what will he do about the resolution unanimously reached by the National Conference? What will happen to the report? The decisions of the National Conference are so germane to the future of this country. The more reasons why the man who conceptualised it should be allowed to implement his decisions.

Health / Re: Rape Of Medical Laboratory Science Profession by anibestlala(m): 10:29pm On Feb 10, 2015
Sctests:

Go back to the link you posted and peruse it
carefully, your asm-ascp website does not say it confers on
you "Medical laboratory Scientist" competencies. Let me quote an excerpt from your source

"Those who pass the exam are certified as a
Technologist in Microbiology (M) or Specialist in Microbiology (SM) by the ASCP and
are issued a certificate with both organizations' names on it."-----http://www.asm.org/index.php/nrcm-cert

Did you notice they were careful not have added the word "Medical"
in front of the "Technologist"? The medico-legal issues surrounding the practice can not
be wished away in countries where they are serious about this practice. Do non-biomedcal scientists(BMS)
in the UK work with patient's samples to achieve results aimed at diagnosis. Do you know that the title "BMS" is a protected title
in the U.K?

Again on your website let's take a look at the functions of a Registered Microbiologist and Specialist Microbiologist.
Is there any job description there with any semblance of working in a Medical laboratory for diagnostic purpose?

You guys have your fields, how many Medical lab Scientists are employed as Food microbiologists, industrial chemists, Environmental biologist and so on?
Do we run the environmental testing laboratories too?. You need to stop seeing the Medical lab Scientist as an ordinary 'Operator' not eligible to differentiate between a hyperglycemic sample caused by DM and a contaminated sample.

Listen the physician's here will click likes and applaud you, but if have any sense of history you will understand
that during the days of biologist/chemist in IMLT, almost every clueless physician will point to the lab and blame it when they butcher a patient.

The lab guys were the fall guys in those days. When a patient dies, it's the lab that delayed results. They prescribe the wrong
antibiotics- "oh that numbskull in the lab didn't run the AST effectively".

Well those "lab guys" have taken responsibility, built capacity, and equipped themselves with enhanced knowledge,
now regulate the laboratory with the full backing of the law. Why should that be a problem? Our national/state hospitals now have very few cases of misdiagnosis traceable to the laboratory. Nowadays, we no longer get frequent finger-pointings for giving bad results and endangering patients as it was in the 70's and 80's, Now we only get finger-pointing for asking to head the medical laboratories we developed-OUR PRIMARY CONSTITUENCIES in accordance with the law. It is a positive turn-around if you ask me.

Wide consultations were made before that ACT was passed as Law, people who thought the "kitchen"/labs should be thrown to the
backyard and blamed it for all their malpractice misfortunes are the ones crying foul today. Our Medical laboratories are getting strengthened,
the Medical Lab.Scientists will keep building capacities through enhanced knowledge and application of same and the patients can only be the greatest winner.

If you are looking to get us back to that age where the "Lab guy" is the fall guy for everyone else and is expected to gladly accept that, then i'm sorry the Law disagrees with you.

In the 50s' and 60's we had medical assistants treating patients because we didn't have enough Physicians, today we have more than ?40,000 physicians.
In the 70's we didn't have enough MLS/Biomedical Scientists. The biologists/chemists without basic knowledge in medical science were drafted in. These were all stop-gap complementary efforts.
Today Nigeria has at least 8,000 Medical Laboratory Scientists. Why go back to the inglorious era?

I am new on this forum, been reading as a guest for months, attracted by lots of misinformation about the MLS profession
and not a reincarnation of anyone. I will also like to meet fellow MLS on these forum. They seem to be very few on this website.

if you really practise in the UK, am surprised that you still take to bashing physicians in a discussion between you and a non-physician.don't tell me it runs in the blood of most Mls

I don't need anyone to pay me to have an opinion. I have more than enough for myself and have a small business that employs 5 people.

Problem is I am just utterly disgusted at what Jonathan has done to this nation. No one seems to respect or take us seriously anymore. We can't even fight our own battle anymore and parts of our country is under occupation by foreign forces as we speak. Why should I, in full consciousness, applaud the man that landed us in such a mess??

And now that it is crystal clear Nigerians want to boot him out, he's going all out to make sure elections don't hold. The same Nigerians that trooped out en-mass to call the bluff of Aondokaa, Turai, et al when Jonathan was reduced to nothing but a Janitor in Aso Rock are the people he now sees as his arch enemies!!

The dude is just too desperate for comfort. He wasn't born with the presidency and I'm cock sure he never even dreamt of becoming a minister, but Nigerians gave him the mandate to appoint ministers and indeed made him the most powerful man in the country. Why can't he appreciate that and return the favour by simply conducting a free and fair election for us?? Why is he trying to compromise INEC, employing the services of all manner of fictitious groups to blackmail the INEC chairman? Was Jega not thesame INEC chairman that conducted the 2011 polls which Jonathan and his supporters claim were the most credible elections ever conducted in the country?? Or did Jega rig the elections in their favour then??

Jonathan simply understands that going to the polls in a week's time is definitely suicidal for him and his party because of the popularity of Buhari. They aren't prepared. He never thought this day would come. They were so complacent, boasting the party would rule for 60years plus and never bothered to build structures that Nigerians could make reference to as reasons for their retention in power. All they do is steal, steal, and steal some more!

I go out everyday is see the pain and suffering in people's eyes and it breaks my heart honestly. I ask myself; what manner of greed makes a man steal billions of naira for himself when there are millions of people who can't afford 500naira for means in a day?? Isn't that satanic?? Some of these people are born into poverty and remain in it until they die. The ruling class make sure they are not uplifted from their conditions because doing so would ensure that much more than cups of rice, palm oil and kerosine are demanded when they seek elective positions.

I can go on and on but I don't wanna sound verbose. Jonathan is simply a mistake Nigeria can't afford to repeat.

#NigeriaMustRiseAgain
#SayNoToElectionPostponement.
seems you are not clear why the. pdp wants the elections postponed. among other reasons is the need for everyone to get the PVC and the battle on bh to be won so everyone can vote. meanwhile, politicians would always be politicians, tinubu 's mouth watering pension can help feed millions of persons and Buhari's daughter's school fees in UK can pay hundreds of students school fee.so relax n enjoy the drama.

Five governors on the platform of People’s Democratic Party, especially those from the northern part of the country will soon dump the party for All Progressive Congress, Chief Odigie Oyegun, the National Chairman of the APC said in Benin City, Edo State, on Wednesday.

Oyegun said he has held meetings with the said governors and he (Oyegun) has directed them to start the formalities for defection in their various states.

“Let me reveal to you people today that very very soon, you will hear of an earthquake that will consume PDP in this country. As I’m talking to you people now, I have held meetings with some governors that want to join the APC from the PDP. Let me not release the cat out of the bag. But let me assure you that few hours to the presidential and National Assembly elections, the PDP canoe will sink.

“You can see that our President and his party PDP have engaged in one character assassination or the other, yet we are focusing on our campaigns of issues and not names calling.

“The hand writing is so clear , February 14th , 2015 is love day , that date is a special day for our party , as from that day Jonathan will start to park his belongings away from Aso Rock .

“The elections cannot be postponed and they cannot rig it either. Just go there that day, vote and protect it. It is evidently clear that PDP and Jonathan are running scared.

“It is laughable that an NSA, Col. Dasuki, that cannot advice the President on how to tackle insurgency in Nigeria, is calling for elections’ postponement.”

This case is as baseless as the people that instituted it are worthless.
-They claimed over 40% of eligible voters have not collected their PVCs.
Big lie because as at last week,INEC said about 65% have collected, leaving about 35% uncollected as at last week.
-They want INEC to wait till all registered voters have collected their cards.
Rubbish.@least 10% of cards wud remain uncollected from a combination of the following reasons, bearing in mind we talking of a registration exercise that took place 4yrs ago:
deaths, distant relocations, travel, immobility due to hospitalizations, people who have lost their PVCs and can't locate their reg points; some people registered at any convenient place they found then;e.g,there are cases of people who were just passing a point, saw it going on and got registered, they don't av any serious desire to collect their PVC.
-What finally makes this case fit for the wastebasket it belongs is this:so if one decides not to collect his/her card for ulterior motives, that person can run to the court and get an election shifted?
Registration for voting and voting itself are voluntary not obligatory acts. The duty to vote lies on the voter and this starts from making effort to get registered and collecting one's card.INEC cannot be expected to register someone, beg the person to collect and then deliver the card to the person's bedroom.
I bet these litigants are paid PDP agents who have either hidden their cards or collected but self destroyed them.
pdp agents or not, they deserve to be heard in the courts and have not chosen to go violent like some people would have done.there is still freedom of expression remember

Let our minds be opened to the fact that us Africans were socially and technologically advanced before the invasions of the imperialist overlords.

If you haven't read Walter Rodney's classic, "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa" then you are on a very long thing. You are missing. Read and let your eyes be opened. When you do you will stop feeling inferior to other races (something which often times we subconsciously display by mimicking aspects of their cultures to the detriment of ours).

you are right, Africans have lost their sense of dignity due to their impoverished conditions. it's sad to know that some tribes take pride in referring to themselves as next to the Caucasians as though they are inferior to them. our leaders have not helped matters.

Bishop Oyedepo said: "All those opposing and are against the peace of Nigeria, God would
open the gates of hell to them". These were
his words.
But propagandalists party who strives in lies twisted the word from the Bishop because they already knew that they are the enemies of Nigeria who want to take over presidency by evil means.

Note:
I was in the service today. It was our
thanksgiving service today after the 21days
fasting period.
thanks a billion for the correction , those who think people shouldn't think nigeria but only partisan, find it difficult to deal with those who are nationalistic. #musteverybodyendorsesomebody#

Governor Amaechi is acting within the law

The stadium is not yet completed. A president with a so called PhD should know the health & safety implications of conducting a campaign in such a venue.

Unlike him and his cronies, the APC will not endanger the lives of Nigerians like he did with Immigration recruitment exercise. The APC values the lives of Nigerians.

The PDP can campaign on the streets like they have been doing so far.

but when apc used it recently it was completed ba? try and be objective.

If GEJ hasnt trivialized this, and turned it to a Moslem Vs Christian thing. And a North Vs South thing. An APC vs PDP thing. A minority vs majority thing. A means of winning the hearts of Christians to vote him into power while painting every Moslem within the country as evil and killers, I am certain things wouldnt have gotten this bad. OBJ, Yaradua, were confronted with the issues of insurgency in the Niger Delta, they didnt point at the leaders there. They didnt paint it as a South Vs North or Minority vs Majority thing. They tackled it headlong and OBJ created NDCC and Yaradua offered amnesty. But You my president turned this to another pity-jingles, you left Ibos, yorubas, Hausa and Fulanis in the North to their faith while running to pastors, pretending, pointing fingers all over the place. At first, it was Dokpesi and IBB, then later it was Buhari, then Tinubu, just like those paid and jobless hacks you employed try to claim. Now you are shamelessly posing with the same military men you poorly under-equip, same people you are sending to the gullitone and same people you are killing daily with your super-corruption, snapping pictures with election just about 4 weeks away when you could have done better way back.
It just shows how pathetic, desperate and clueless you are sir. If you likes, go into Sambisa, You sir are NEVER getting my vote!
accusing the president of causing divides along religious and ethnic lines is not being fair.who has the most appointments in his cabinet if not the north, who has spent billions building alamajiri schools and given more billions in projects in the north if not the him.I guess it's all a plan to call a dog a bad name to hang it.keep it up

CNN has exposed what our Nigerian journalists...aka Egunje specialists have failed to do. The same CNN and international news Agencies supported Goodluck during his elections...this administration should stop claiming everybody is their enemy and just perform.
the government not performing is not an excuse to report lies like bh taking over the west all in the name of news.sad how Nigerians quickly politicise everything instead of calling a spade a.spade.smh

After CNN aired an interview some hours ago with people alleged to be Nigerian soldiers who told them that Nigerian soldiers are buying their own
kits to fight Boko Haram and take care of themselves when they sustain injuries during their course of defence of the country, the Nigerian army has blasted CNN for the interview and even described it as a 'Satanic' report.

If you miss  the interview, watch it here  http://edition.cnn.com/videos/world/2015/01/15/ctw-pkg-robertson-nigerian-soldier-boko-haram-fight.cnn

it is obvious that the American press led by CNN is out to discredit Nigeria in the eyes of the world as much as possible. their recent news of bh taking over the western part of Nigeria is a testimony to that.I think the government should sue them or block them from nigeria's cyberspace. smh

The Chadians that were chased out were invaders and Muhammadu Buhari received lots of accolades for the act. In fact, it is an assurance that our territory will be secured under Muhammadu Buhari. Buhari jailed the criminals in power under shagari, and it's one reason we love him. The government of Jonathan and PDP is corrupt! They are afraid of jail(Obj).
if he so kicked against corruption, why did he jail a mere vp ekwueme while allowing president shagari to enjoy comfort.
