Dear Dr Katy,

hope all is well with you!
Its been a while since i posted, remember me, you gave me alot of input in regards to my rather complicated pregnancy, MCDA twins, infection fear, cervical stitch,
it was a rough ride, spent 10 weeks in hospital on strict bedrest but God saw me thru, i had 2 beautiful boys at 35weeks but they didnt need any special care and we were discharged as normal.
Thanks a mil for your help!

May God continue to strengthen you and reward your efforts.

Don't make assumptions mate!

FYI, i am not new to property building and have competent builders with over 30 years experiece and have built top of the range houses,
I dont owe you an explanation but wanted opinions of other builders which i know you are not one!
Having new contractors on site with new ideas can be helpful hence the question i raised ,

@ yemtech

thanks for your reply,
building with pipes outside the is not my style, may consider it in other cheaper projects in future.
Properties / Building Dilemma: Building And Plumber by ant01: 6:13pm On Jun 01, 2009
Hi guys,
I am building a 6, 3 bedroom flat in 2 storey building in water log area of lekki, strong foundation has been put in place.
There is a dilemma between the builder and the plumber in regards to conduit piping. The plumber argues that he can lay unbreakable pipes whilst the remaining 2 deckings are done…. (Too late for the foundation as it has been put in place already). This will prevents him having to break through concrete to put the pipes in once the decking and the building is in place, his argument is that breaking through the concrete to put in the pipes will cause the house/foundation to weaken.
The builder on the other hand says putting the pipes in at an early stage could lead to pipes breaking e.g when workmen step on them etc…. which could be a problem when building Is completed and there are leaks in the house – if it happens….
Guys what is your opinion on these? Are there unbreakable pipes out there….? Can the house weaken if the pipes are to be inserted afterwards therefore the plumber having to break thru concrete?

Thanks,

Hi doc,

Thanks for the reply. much appreciated.
my hubby thinks i could be extreme atimes, but i want everything to be ok this time around, as we went thru stuff b4 i got preganant , ( i even went to the GP - this morning for urine test cos wanted to be sure i was ok as my urine was a bit green yday, )

In regards to the crp test, you are right. i am the person who always turn up at the hospital demanding the test, and i get my way cos i kinda remind them with past experience.

i will chill out and look unto God.
will keep you updated.

I don't think you need additional vitamin C and no, the babies are not going to get scurvy if you don't take vitamin c. I think you are a candidate for hydroxyprogesterone and the CRP testing I believe, is overkill because it is non specific. However, if it gives a sense of reassurance, aleuta continua. It is NOT standard of care. Good luck and keep me posted

Hi doc,

Just to update you, i had cervical scan today and all appears okay. smiley

my cervix is measuring 30 mm/cm (not sure which metric) in total.
20 above the stitch and 10 below the stitch,

Like you said crp tet was an overkill , hence wasn't given one today , she was surprised i was given the other crp tests,
She took some swaps to be on the safe side.

I couldn't see the consultant he knows me too well and had to dash for a meeting grin, but i discussed with the ldoc who looked at the cervix on the drug 17 hydroyxprogeterone, she said the cyclogest pessaries 400 mg which i take daily serves the same purpose as the injection you recomended.

If you feel the injection is more effective i can speak to my consultant about it, do you think they serve the same purpose?

I have an ultrasound next week, can't wait!
Thanks a mil.

Hi again,

FYI: Forgot to mention i am also on 400mg cyclogest a day and also take my temperature everyday ,

Also with vitamin c, if it is ok to take them, is it true that i will have to continue after birth or else the babies will have scurvy if i stop taking them once i give birth

Thanks a mil!

"@ant 01
I agree with the doctor not giving antibiotics.  It is a myth that they are a cure all.  They can actually cause major problems and should only be used as needed.  I am assuming he is putting in two cerclages, not standard but also not unheard of.  Talk to them about the 17 hydroxyprogesterone."

@ fruitsteps,

if you decide go private with ivf then try ARGC, they are the best in the UK. it will be intensive as they will monitor you alot during treatment and more expensive but worth it.

wish you d best

Hi Doc,

Thanks for the response.
An appointment has been booked for to have the stitch done in less than 2 weeks, by then give or take 12 weeks ( less 2 days).
The doc said he will put a stitch at the top of the cervix and at the bottom of the cervix, therefore there will be mucus in the middle,
is this how it is normally done?

Also he still refuses to give antibiotics even when the last preganncy was lost due to ascending acute infection( at 22 weeks his argument is that the stitch was put in too late at 17 weeks when the cervix was already 4cm dilated hence infection had already entered) but this time round the stitch will be put in time, but i dont know what the harm is of giving a safe antibiotics like erythomizne ( something like that) just to prevent infection from developing as a result of a foreign body in the cervix or becasue of instruments useed for the procedure,

is he right about the infection and the proposed type of cervical stitch?

Thanks a mil

@Go4 Gold

congrats on the safe arrival, may God conitinue to protect your family!

@doctor,

Thanks for all your help,
As mentioned in previous posts about my friend who had a cone biopsy 4 years ago (about 1.2 mm was cut off after 2 biopsies) and miscarried her baby at 22 weeks dur to infection after a late stitch was put in at 18weeks at a time when her cervix was already 4cm opened,
before pregnancy her cervix was measuring 30mm,

now she is pregnant with twins! her doctor has said she will have a stitch at 12 weeks, and the prayer is that the cervix holds up,
what will your advice be for her in regards to keeping the pregnancy till at least 34 weeks,

thanks.

hey mr man,

sad you have to go thru this!
looks like she doesn't want to be a wifey anymore and go play with friends, party etc,
like you said she is fine so i think she is taking advantage of this now!

but looks like she has misplaced priority, the time for going out was b4 she got hitched!

if she hasn't got feelings for you anymore, please let her be and try and maintain a good relationship with her because of your child.
It might noe be easy but you are a man and it is a man's world!
There are many women who will admire an ambitious guy like you ( but please you need to balance work and home to have a succesful marriage).

wish you the best.

Dear Doc,

Thanks a mil for your response, Will let her know.
When she has the stitch in i guess the doctors will monitor her constantly. After having the stitch in place,is it precautionary or compulsory for her to be on bed rest from the 13th week, or perhaps from around 20th week when it progresses? Also will you advice on multiple vaginal scans ( weekly or fortnightly) for monitoring the cervix,

Thanks.
Have a blessed week ahead

Ant
Health / Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by ant01: 6:03pm On Mar 02, 2009
Hi Doc,

God Bless you!
I have a friend who lost her baby 22 weeks. she had a stitch put it an 17 weeks which was a little too late as she was already 4cm dilated with bulging membranes at this time but they thought better late than never.
to cut the long story short she started contracting at 22 weeks and they had to remove the stitch and she gave birth to a still born.
Her crp or cpr ( not sure) blood test level , went up to over 200 and the conclusion was that she had severe infection brought about by the late stitch ( she wasn't treated with antibiotics after the stitch due to hospital politics as the argument was that the antibiotics would get "get rid of the good and bad bacteria" which could lead to more problems later on in the pregancy if the good bacteria is not effective.

She was at the hopsital from when they put the stitch in at 17 weeks until 22 weeks when she lost they baby and they did not find out about the infection until it was too late.

My question is for future pregancy surely she should be given some antiboitics when this stitch is done and there is evidence of infection,
Are there not various type of antibiotcs that can eradicate just the bad bacteria, and if there are none, is there anything she can take to replace the good bacteria,

She had a biopsy few years ago in her cervix, so for next pregancy they will put the stitch in at 13 weeks, but she in confused about the antibiotics issue as after what happened the hospital are adamant they wont give her antibiotics until absolutly necessary! but if she will be discharged right after the stitch has been put in how ill they know if an infection develops as she will be home!

Thanks

I am disgusted with alot of the things that have been said about women who have problems conceiving,
Do not be judgemental.
I know a close friend who had problems not becuase she had an abortion,  SHE HAS NEVER HAD AN ABORTION AND PRETTY MUCH LIVED A VERY DECENT LIFE.

I also know 2 friends  who got married as virgins and had problems conceiving,  cant disclose any more details.

It is only God that we should put our faith into inregards to conception.

People who have never been in the shoes of people who try to conceive have NO CLUE at all. Please be careful what you say,
