It is a shame that one wrong is dealt with another wrong. The damn security agencies stood by to watch four boys get killed. Now again they stand by to watch students go on reprisal attacks. We might as well get rid of our police force cos they are utterly useless angry.

Car TalkRe: Price Of New Model Cars On Nairaland? by Areaboy2(op): 12:18pm On Oct 10, 2012
^^

Agreed, but the comparison I'm making here is between a brand new car from America and a brand new car from our dealers here. We are talking about cars of the same model.

Mind you, we do not assemble any Toyota or Honda in Nigeria, these are simply imports of ready assembled cars.

I can understand the argument that our dealers here sell more base model (for example LX model accord) because they are simply cheaper. If someone with the cash requests an EX, he will get the same standard features Honda will put in their cars. However, these are trims for the European/Asian market and you don't expect to get everything an American trim will get.

But I've said it and I'll say it again, that doesn't make the cars sub standard.

As most of you are crying for justice deep inside you are crying for blood as well. Finally, someone that sees both sides of the coin and has the balls to speak out! I am impressed. I was shocked when I watched the video and couldn't make it even half way. If barbarism ever needs a definition, that incident captures it completely. utterly appalling

Jungle justice isn't really new in our country, however with smart phones we now realise how gruesome it is. Back in the days of Bakasi when the innocent and guilty are butchered like goats in public market squares with people cursing and spitting, we did nothing. we didn't hear about it? or it didn't concern us? or we have never been faced with such gruesome jungle justice that seemingly weaves through the fabric of our society? I think the later is true

A police man will harass you, slap you and beat you mercilessly before they ask the right questions whether you are guilty or not. Army will lock you in guard room for days because they can and yet we all say nothing about it? Somehow the people of Aluu took matters into their own hands and probably have frankly had enough.

A lot of years back we got robbed and my dad was shot in the head, although he survived it but do you think if I find those guys and I have the power to hurt them, I wont put them through the same torture? Maybe, maybe not. After years of investigations and plenty police report later those guys must still be roaming free today. My point here is we only have one place to point our fingers to and that is our govt. When they realise that they do owe us the duty of performing what they are there for, only then will our communities free themselves from this sort of barbarism

Lexusgs430: Can I have friends like yours?
LOL!! we all can do with a friend like that indeed smiley

@topic, there isn't really a "special" way to drive an auto tranny car to be honest.

Well, first of all it has two pedals instead of three and you don't need to use one leg for each (except you are a race driver tongue). Your right leg will do all the job (braking and accelerating).

Basically, step on the brake and shift the stick to your desired gear, let go the brake and throttle as desired.

The basic will be P R N D. Although some cars will have D1, D2, D3 but we hardly ever use these in everyday driving.

Although you don't get as much control as a Manual transmission will give you, an auto tranny will allow you to relax and it is priceless in traffic situations. Be gentle with your accelerations to prevent stressing your transmission all the time as most of them aren't as rugged as their manual counterparts and cost an arm and a leg to fix when they go bad. Keep your revs between 2k and 3k rpm for city driving and you'll be fine.

If you have any more query I'll be happy to chip in as much as I know.

Drive safe wink

Edit:
Full option is the rather ambiguous term auto traders in Nigeria tend to use for a car that comes equip with all the possible gadgets for that model. In a sense, they mean a full luxury/safety option. Multiple air bags, leather seats, sun/moon roof (which ever u like to call it) and maybe more depending on the year. Toyota will be an XLE while Honda will be an EX-L V6(I think)? dunno about the rest lol
Christianity EtcRe: Ex-PMAN President Tee Mac Apologises To Bishop Oyedepo by Areaboy2(m): 9:35am On Oct 09, 2012
bankylan: I am sure Tee Mac is missing something. Does he own a car? Is the car worth 5 million naira? Why will Tee Mac own a car when there are millions of Nigerians and thousands in his neighborhoods who can not afford 3 square meals? Can't he go in molue to perform, and ride on Okada to Muson center, and charter Danfo for his band? Does he have a house? why will he build a house when he can rent one for as little as 250,000 per year in Ikorodu? At least he can use his money to feed the poor.

Tee Mac is obviously not a man with depth and spiritual maturity, but a man with logic, and that is why I am not surprised by his comment. Is he aware of how much Winner is giving as welfare? The fact that he does not have information about this does not mean the church is not doing this. The place of Pastor is to empower and not to give hand out to people. This will shock anyone...the people that expect to receive money, food, and material wealth from men of God are likely to remain poor for the rest of their lives. The widow in the bible, why will Elijah ask her to prepare him his last meal?
I have met with many rich men, and one thing I know of them is that they give to men of God. I mean men that were once broke and poor. But this is a spiritual thing, and I do not expect many to agree with me.
I pray that God will bless me more to be a giver, and to give to men of God. If you want to break the yoke pf poverty, you have to tap into the grace of those who have conquered poverty. Please this is not what any man of God has made me to believe, this is what my bible has taught me. This has worked for me and my family.

Tee Mac, you are able to own a car because you can afford it and it is a necessity and not a luxury for you...Bishop is able to afford jets, because it is a necessity for his ministry and he can afford it...

And if I can not castigate you for owing a car because I don't know what else you do or how much God has blessed you...you should also not castigate someone who has a jet when it is obvious that you don't know everything about him and how much God has blessed him.

BUT IF YOU THINK A JET IS TO MUCH FOR BISHOP OYEDEPO TO HAVE, KNOW THAT MY GATEMAN UMARU BELIEVES A CAR IS TOO MUCH FOR TEE MAC TO HAVE....

Car TalkRe: Price Of New Model Cars On Nairaland? by Areaboy2(op): 1:19am On Oct 09, 2012
I still think we are chasing red herrings here.

The main issue is whether brand new cars in Nigeria are just as good (in terms of basic safety) as the same car from overseas market?

Brand new cars from dealers in Nigeria will still give you the desired safety features to improve the chance of survival in a serious collision. The right question is; what are the necessary safety features in a car?

Crumple zones come with the body work and chassis. Unless you want to tell me we have a different chassis/bodywork from the american models?

Seatbelt pre-tensioner is not even standard in American cars yet, much more Nigeria. Again, Locking retractors (which we all have) are just as competent in 95% of collisions.

Active head restraints, the story is the same here. new feature that isn't standard yet even in the USA.

Keep in mind that the challenge faced on an American highway is different from that in Nigeria

Now do we rather rely on american cars that are mostly salvage and don't even have these so called safety features in good working order or we get a car from our local accredited dealers? I guess that's a question for everyone to answer how they deem fit. I've seen a lexus gs on this same Nairaland with 5000 miles on its odo and even having protective film wrapped all around the door handles claiming almost new. Only to check out the carfax report and find out the car was basically junk with odo rolled back from over 40k miles. If that isn't evil, then i don't know what evil is

The truth is, Luxury is one thing but saying we have sub standard (safety) cars is a bold statement

denitro: I know I overdid it with my last statement.
My point is
The ideal situation is that any aircraft can fly and land safely with even 1 engine.
But the aircraft is at the mercy of the pilot who has to make the right decisions.
He makes the wrong one. Then nothing else matters.
Now its perfect smiley.

some pilots will crash with minor system failure while others will land safely after a major system failure. Like every other vehicle, the weakest link is the human operator.

denitro: you are funny...
Don't you guys read:
China Airlines Flight 006
After the flameout, the captain instructed the flight engineer to attempt to restart the engine,
(You are saying the first thing the pilot needs to do)
Whereas the pilot of China Airlines Flight 006 first instructed his flight engineer to attempt to restart the engine.
while the plane remained at FL 410 (41,000 feet), with the autopilot still engaged and the Bleed air on.
That was contrary to the flight manual procedure
, which required the plane to be below 30,000 feet (9,100 m),
before attempting to restart a flamed out engine. The restart attempt failed.

The airspeed continued to decrease, while the autopilot rolled the control wheel to the maximum left limit of 23 degrees.
As the speed decreased even further, the plane began to roll to the right
, even though the AP was maintaining the maximum
left roll limit of 23 degrees. By the time the captain disconnected the autopilot, the plane had rolled over 60 degrees
to the right and the nose had begun to drop.

70% of airline accidents are caused by pilot error. The China Airlines flight pilot made series of errors.
Anyone on that flight with the knowledge that an airline can still fly with 1 engine cannot enter the cockpit and instruct
the pilot to first of all increase or decrease the power to the second engine, and also use its rudder to compensate
for the wing side that has a lost engine. (That knowledge is useless if the pilot makes series of errors while
reacting to the engine flames out.)
A two engine plane in nigeria flying with 1 engine has a 70% chance of crashing, if the pilot has not experienced
an engine flame out during his career.
Good post, but you spoil am with your last statement. Show us evidence of your statistics. Or are you just making assumptions of your own?

enitan2002: I disagree with your last statement. When an engine fails, first thing the pilot needs to do is either to increase or decrease the power to the second engine, and also use its rudder to compensate for the wing side that has a lost engine. It might even surprise you that once an aircraft is at a safe altitude, it can even continue to fly for several minutes when all the engines are out.
not just that alone, over 90% of flights at cruising altitude will be on auto-pilot. This alone will adjust the flaps and rudder to compensate for the thrust imbalance. The pilot gets notified immediately and a series of religious troubleshooting will start, while going through the engine start up process. If the engine fires up again and gives no other warning, they continue as if nothing happened to destination and report the incident to maintenance.
However, if they fail to restart the engine, an alternate airport is sort and they radio in "pan-pan" for immediate landing.

lastpage: I guess in four engine planes, the failure of one engine or even two (one of each pair on either side), can still be managed by an experienced Pilot.

But most of our local flights use two engine planes (one on each side) and the failure of one will cause so much "roll" that the plane would 95% of the time, CRASH.

if we want to make comparisons, lets compare like with like.
Now show me how many single engine planes (one on each side) survived an engine failure while fully airborne?

That plane should have been properly checked before passengers board...... and the problem detected earlier.
If that has been done, all these "fear and near mishaps" could have been avoided.

denitro: NB:
Most planes used by Aero, Arik etc are two engine planes.
One fails, there will be too much power on one side of the plane causing the plane to roll.
That's not true, if you're not sure then don't misinform people.

Aricrafts are designed to fly with loss of one engine. The roll experienced by China Airline flight 006 had a deeper cause. The roll only occured a few minutes after they lost one engine and hence not a result of thrust imbalance
