More power to the Presidents elbow. He will surely succeed. He should ignore the cries of nonentities against it. They are the very inconsequential few. They can only have their say but never their way.

I would take the war on corruption seriously once it leads to the prosecution of the fathers of corruption like Babangida and Atiku Abubakar. What we have at present is a disgraceful application of selective justice!

The narrative 'White minorities must give up their ill gotten wealth for lazy Africans' has to be up there among the most ridiculous thing i've ever had the unfortunate chance of reading on this forum, and that's saying something.... How do we determine the people with unethical wealth? Where does this definition stops, especially with 3rd gen whitea minorities?
This, in addition to the narratives about socialism screams of laziness to me. Most African countries would bankrupt and self implode before it starts. Venezuela is a perfect example of what Africa will be like if they dare adopt any form of socialism.

Really? In other words, the merciful white man should be left alone to enjoy his loot in his majestic mansion from Nairobi to Congo?

What Adaure4ever is saying here is not too different from the views being expressed in America through Trump and Sanders and in London through Jeremy Corbyn and Brexit. The youngsters that are instigating it have seen that between 1948 and 1972, every section of the American population experienced very similar and sizable increases in their standard of living. But between 1972 and 2013, the bottom 10% experienced falling real income while the top 10% did far better than everyone else. So the type of capitalism that neo-liberalism imposes on us is not fit for purpose. It was Keynesian policy and welfare capitalism that delivered the best result for the world up until the early 70s not trickle-down nonsense or globalization in goods, services and capital that was unleashed so as to devalue labour and the Unionised job market completely
Banks, bankers and business leaders collude with the political elites around the world to enact the most draconian laws against mankind.
Then 2007-8 crisis came but changed virtually nothing. If Robert Mugabe had turned the act of printing money into a policy, it would have been called voodoo economics, so what is quantitative easing? Well, it`s ok if it`s the West that is doing it. So the question is about how to tackle global inequality. The answer is well known by now: capitalism causes inequality, so it can`t be relied upon to solve it. The people that are beginning to think outside the neo-liberal box should be praised for doing so. Russia is respected around the world today not until she dumped blind and crass capitalism

Of course, the way forward might be the mixture of the two ideologies. Somebody in Nigeria called it a little bit to the right and a little bit to the left. But the first thing is for all of us to accept that the status quo is not an option. Dr Martin Luther King said: " Communism forgets that life is individual, Capitalism forgets that life is social, and the kingdom of brotherhood is found neither in the thesis of communism nor the anti-thesis of capitalism, but in a higher synthesis. It is found in a higher synthesis that combines the truth of both "
If this was relevant in the 60s, we need to take it more seriously today. The casualised economy that encourages global race to the bottom is unacceptable and that is what Anglo-American capitalism is all about.

I can`t remember two passes materialising throughout the match, coach can`t be blamed for that. What I think the coach can be blamed for is the fact that he sent them out on a containment mission-that has never yielded anything for us in the past. Once one goal went in, that was the end of the story. As for the over-aged players; Moses, Mikel and Ahmed Musa would have been my preference. On top of everything, is the fact that, SIASIA never wins the top matches at the world level. Once he couldn`t do it in Holland 2005 I don`t see him doing it anytime soon. Today, the Germans were just better in every department of the game. Apart from our goal-keeper, nobody performs for Nigeria today. All in all, it has been a very bad day in the office!

@Ateri, let me at least address your misconception. You see, the guy never misunderstood his status. He travelled to Swiss and applied for benefit whilst still working in Spain. He knew he won't get benefit in Spain 'cause he was still working. He needed extra cash and called his friend in Switzerland who advised him to come over and claim benefit. And because of greed and ignorance (not doing his research), he travelled and applied.

Now, after submitting his claim, he went back to Spain. Five months after applying, the result came in, he was denied. And needing to know the reasons behind the rejection, and devising other reasons to apply and appeal his rejection, he travelled again to Switzerland. This time, he was stopped by an immigration officer who digged in into his travel history and hit the jackpot. Officer found out he already applied for benefit whilst holding a resident permit of Spain. He was interviewed, admitted he applied for benefit and was detained. Passport and resident permit was seized and confiscated. Swiss govt approached their Spanish counterpart, and an agreement was made to deport him.

Now, was I there? No, but experience and speculation of events always narrate itself.

He regretted making that decision. In his interview with the press, he time without number mentioned how he would have been a citizen of Spain had he not gone to Switzerland to claim benefit.

Now, does racism played its part in getting him deported? Absolutely. But then, was he the architect of his own misfortune? Absolutely. A white man would have been banned from Switzerland for certain years for committing fraud, but still get handed his passport and resident permit.

"He that comes to equity must come with a clean hand". Let's strive to be honest, at least for once.

Thank you

What I noticed in London recently is the sudden increase in the population of Spanish speaking immigrants. The economy in Spain is on the floor. What I think happened to this guy was, he wanted to relocate to Switzerland because there was no work in Spain. I believe he thought he could do that with his permanent residency in Spain. On getting to Switzerland, he was with friends who had always been working so they couldn`t give him reliable info, so he applied for benefit because he had nothing on him. That is my theory!.

Sad that Nigerians can`t discuss any issue objectively without tribalism, religion or politics getting in the way.
This was a poor performance by Fashola`s standard. He didn`t just prepare for this interview with enough facts and figures. He wasn`t dealing with the most brilliant journalists in London because Stephen Sacker is no Faisal Islam, David Dimbleby, Andrew Neil, John Hunphrys or Jeremy Paxman. How would he have done in front of these five. But to now start to compare someone with multiple ministerial portfolios with a fiction writer is laughable!

Let's get one thing straight, shall we? You're living in Spain, and went to Switzerland to claim benefit if I get you right! OK. As a professional individual with vast experience in immigration matters, you have committed fraud.
Now listen, A Spanish citizen can go to any EU country and claim benefit, no crime in that. A permanent resident of Spain have no right whatsoever to do same. A permanent resident can only claim benefit in a country where that PR was issued.

His crime are in two folds..

A. He claimed benefit in Switzerland
B. He claimed benefit whilst still working in Spain.

He was badly misinformed by his friend about the procedure of getting benefit in another EU country without being a citizen of Spain. Though technically, Switzerland is not a member of the EU, but they've inculcated most of EU laws into their own system. They have Free trade with EU and do most things together.

He got greedy just like most of them. Spanish authority won't issue him another visa because they work hand in hand with other EU countries.

Welcome to Nigeria. Malaysia I'm sure would be on your mind now...if so, death warrant is already issued.

And why travel to Switzerland with just few weeks to you applying for citizenship? That shows you knew what you were doing. You want to play the system. Greediness killed you bro.

Hope you get a second chance in life. Sh*t happens

It is unfortunate you allowed your prejudice to devalue what should otherwise have been a good piece. This is one of those cases where a guy misunderstood his own status leading to European racists seeing him as a criminal.

In the West, this type of decadence is normal. In Africa, a teenager smoking anything, would be seen as a disgrace to the family, especially if the teenager is female. One of the problems in the West is that, women believe they have to do all the crazy things that men do in order to feel equal.
But women have to carry pregnancy not men, so why allow alcohol to destroy you and your womb long before you are ready for marriage? Smoking isn`t good for anyone!

During the Second Republic (1979-1983) MKO Abiola was a member of the ruling National Party of Nigeria. As the first term of President Shagari was coming to an end, MKO Abiola approached the President to let him know that he too ( i.e MKO Abiola ) was interested in becoming the president of Nigeria after Shagari. It was Umar Dikko that responded, and told MKO Abiola point blank that there was no vacancy in the Presidency. Out of frustration, MKO Abiola left NPN. This is relevant because the most important things in politics are unplanned.
Victor Hugo said, " All the forces in the world are not so powerful as an idea whose time has come". In other words, no one can stop an idea whose time has come. The North used to tell anyone from the South that, since the North produces nothing, the North should be allowed to remain in power since the South own the resources; that was the Nigeria I grew up in. The Northern oligarchy was cocky and unapologetic about their domination of the country from 1979-1999. Well, the rest is history!.
No-one in the country today can argue against an Igbo presidency, but how do we bring that about? The first thing is for Ndigbo to understand that, the easiest demographic to win over is the younger generation, but you are not going to win them over by coming online expressing hatred for everybody. In other words, Igbos need more people like the OP of this thread and less of madam HammerTheirPapa.
The moment you get right on your side, then you can create your own momentum. And once you get both right and momentum on your side, the rest would be easy. One day, it would be the turn of the South to produce the President of Nigeria, it shall be difficult to argue against an Igbo Presidency.

I disagree. Get your facts right b4 posting on my thread smiley

That was Stephen Sackur, Hardtalk's presenter, has been a journalist with BBC News since 1986.
He has interviewed Presidents George W Bush and Bill Clinton, covered the 2000 US Presidential Elections, the Clinton scandal and impeachment trial. He has interviewed prominent international personalities including President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, President Felipe Calderón of Mexico, President Shimon Peres of Israel, US vice-president Al Gore, former US Secretary of Defence Robert Gates and a host of other leaders and politicians from around the world including OBJ.

Sackur was named 'International TV Personality of the Year' by the Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) in November 2010.

The Jounalist looked surprised and bewildered. Most African personalities (during interviews) talk out of context. Fashola schooled the man.
Kudos to him

You don`t really deserve a response from me, but just to let you know that I don`t google before posting. Faisal Islam is the new sensation in London right now, far better than your Stephen Sackur. In case you started to watch Hardtalk yesterday, Tim Sebastian was the doyen of Hardtalk, a true grandee of forensic probing! Oh, please google Jeremy Paxman to help yourself in the field of comparison.
By the way, next time you start a thread, you can always say at the beginning who and who you want to contribute. So I owe you no apology for my opinion. Good luck!

Foreign Affairs / Re: Govt Of France Finally Gets Smart; Shuts Down 20 Mosques by ATERI(m): 5:43pm On Aug 04, 2016
Let me use this opportunity to invite those of you that worship foreign gods to embrace the African Traditional Religion and leave the three Abrahamic faiths to the people born in the West and the Middle-East to worship

But I would also help those of you that propaganda continue to deceive by making one or two clarifications:

After Palestinian lands had been hijacked in 1948 so that the Jews can settle there, the Palestinians took up arms to regain what rightly belongs to them. Yasser Arafat also knew that the first letter bomb to be used for political end had been used by a Jew and it had been very effective. So Yasser Arafat decided to adopt that method. the Arab-Israeli conflict marked the beginning of Arabs using terrorism to achieve a political cause in contemporary political era. Well it has given the Palestinians somewhere to call home.

Now, the problem majority of you have, is to confuse what is going on in the West with all other places. Of course, that is what Western propaganda can do. Let me point out to you that France is not just allowing the Saudis to build mosques in France, it is conditioned on the fact that Saudi Arabia continues to buy arms and ammunition from France. The arms sold by countries like France, USA and UK are used by Saudi to kill the Yemeni children as we speak, without anyone making it an issue in the West.
Now what most of you are missing is the true reason why people that are born and bred in a country would be committing a terrorist act inside that country as we have seen in Europe and America. We can give poverty as an excuse in the developing country, but why in the West? This is the analysis that you don`t get to read frequently about.
Let`s stay with France. I first visited Paris in 1999. What I noticed was that, you could drive for 30 minutes in their Pari without seeing a single foreigner. Well, don`t forget that I watched the French team during France 1998 that was very multi-cultural so you can imagine my surprise at what I then saw as a clear case of segregated communities in 1999. So, though many foreigners were in France, but they live apart. While French propaganda was talking of egalitare, fraternite and liberte, the reality was systemic apartheid that meant that foreigners were pushed to the suburbs of France to live, can`t do the work that native French do or go to the schools they go to. Well, this was serious and deep-rooted.
All over the West you would find a version of this indirectly officially imposed discrimination that the younger generation would never accept and find difficult to understand. And that create the type of alienation that push them to the `other side`. That is why you will see that this problem is more frequent in places like France and Belgium. Another thing the West does when they have a large population of foreigners in their countries is to use the justice system to disable and destroy those foreigners so that, once they get criminal records they are doomed. I would say that 90% of the people some of you are calling terrorists fall under this category, people with questionable criminal records who are angry because of it. This is something your BBC and CNN would never reveal because it is not in the interest of the West to reveal it to the rest of the world who they want to accept the ` Islam is to blame` version. Well, their is more to what is going on than that

Lastly, all the World Wars we have fought till today had been masterminded and started by the so-called peaceful christians. Ditto Slave Trade on industrial scale.
