Concrete slab and beams are coming on it. Is a weast of materials to introduce the lintel round the building when beam and concrete slab is coming on it.
That is true a ring lintel beam isn't necessary in a framed structured storey buildings, but very ideal in a bungalows. Though in the early building system whereby storeys building are built without beam but just slabs alone then ring lintel beam is a must (definitely not a structure built in swampy area or where settlement may be uneven) such structure is called load bearing wall structure, in this case the wall (either sandcrete blocks or bricks) must be a very strong and meet structural standard required.
As a matter of fact about 7 yrs ago I supervised a storey building guest house of about 56m x 12 m built with this method on a very very firm ground with a special made block produced almost a year in advance beforvthe commencement of the project

Aventures, do you remember the price for those "Fire Extinguisher" in your lower picture, very needed in the kitchen.
Hajji M.
tx hajj. we bought the fire extinguisher 6kg for 5k installed for 0.5k. fire extinguisher, goog security, well tidied up electrical installation (we have our power recline cable from the pole run in separate pvc pipe underground) well arranged meter board with adequate ceramic breakers are all good add ups to give you a well bargained insurance premium.

Oga Aventures!
Please precisely which part of a building do you recommend the PVC for?
The Amoular PVC seems to be different from the regular PVC in dimension, size, measurement etc.
How do you determine the number of bundles or sheets required for an area of the house?
Do the regular PVC also require the accessories for installation?
any where you choose except kitchen. Amoula comes in 0.2m x 6 m=1.2sqm so if you space is 12sqm the you need 10 strips + all PVC require accessories.

That generalization is not right, we have many competent bricklayers in Nigeria.. you just need to find the right ones.
You mean to tell me there are no bad bricklayers in Togo/Benin? Not so.
Hajji M.
on point sir. besides I can see a touch of thorough supervision and that is ine thing I know the OP for.

i want to do a concrete tank stand with 4 pillars of 12ft each, will have a 7ft x 7ft slab with 6 inches thickness atop. The slab will be able to fit a 3000 litre Geepee tank. Below the stand, blocks will be used to create a generator house. Please help me scrutinize the quote that I got below. Thank you all.

20 pcs of 9 inch block N18k
20 bags of cement N37k
1 load of gravel@ 14k
1 load of sand@N8.5k
mason labour N40k
15 lengths of 12mm rod N1.2k/1 =N18k
binding wire N500
welder labor N8k
1x12x12 planks 25pcs N17.5k
2x3 planks 4pcs
nails N1k
carpenter labor N10k
Total=N173,700 is this reasonable?
it seems ok except for 20 blocks for 18k that looks questionable. pls try and use granite instead of gravel.

Quick question, from the attachment, what does "16Y1010-200 c/c links" mean? See column CT1
if the OP please permit me to answer this. I like people willing to learn.
it means 16 pieces of 10 mm rings in each column. then the second 10 means bar mark number it is used in identifying the bar in bar bending schedule. 200 C/C means 200 spacing btw each ring.

@ Aventures:
(1) Is the installation of the PVC ceiling also done by Amoula Ventures, do we need specialist installers for PVC ceiling?
(2) Whats the average number of strips required for a regular bedroom say 10 X 12
(3) Is PVC ceiling suitable for kitchen considering the heat from the cooker?
(4) POP installation for living room, any contact you can recommend?
the Installation was done by our carpenter. The pvc is not good for kitchen POP is better concrete is the best. You need about 9 strips and 4 clips for 10 x 12 room. POP contact 08067848083 Ayo.

I have been following this thread from the sidelines, I usually do not comment much on topic, I rather prefer to just sit back and watch. But it seems your question has not been properly answered.
Responding to it, basically the traditional suspended floor of mass concrete usually works on the basic principle of designing the slab to be able to carry its own weight (dead weight) plus live weight (humans/furniture etc) and these loads are transferred to the corresponding beams and then to the columns before finally to the foundation below.
However, this type of floor where hollow clay-pots (red bricks) are used is referred to a Ribbed Floor. Like the name implies, basically its a system of constructing several little "T" like beams to form a rib system. These little "T" combined together forms a flat surface "-"at the top and the rib hangs below "|" .
Lets take 10 "T"s for example and arrange them in an array thus
"TTTTTTTTTT"
you can clearly see that the top of the "T"s forms a flat surface, which is the slab and the bottom parts leaves a rib like structure of with voids(empty space) in between them. What you see with the clay-pots is an attempt to fill up those voids so that it can be properly dressed and plastered but the truth is that those bricks are not structural members (ie they do not carry/transmit any loads). As a matter of fact, the floor would still hold. It would even be stronger because these pots are actually imposed loads on the slabs, apart from bearing it own load and the live load, it still has to carry these bricks (though the self weights of these bricks are considered during the design). So logically, it would mean that if these bricks are ignored during construction, it definitely means there would be lesser load for the slab to carry.
Why engineers continue to use these bricks rather than leaving it void, its basically because of aesthetics and it is also quite cumbersome in preparing the form-work with the all the ribs. I'm actually finding it difficult to explain this in simple terms, maybe a diagram could suffice
very good analysis. when the clay pot is not used then it is called waffle slab I guess!
